Anyone know if the P157SMA supports the Steel Series keyboard upgrade? Same one the P-150 accepted, curious if they're both the same.
Also is there a 3k variant display for it ( aftermarket) -
But do ask a reseller just to be sure -

I believe the keyboard ec is different and it won't work now.

Just got my psm150-A with the gtx 980m in yesterday. Runs really nice but I just want to double check and make sure my gpu temps are acceptable or above average. With Furmark I reach a max of about 88°C before the gpu throttles its clock speed a tiny bit and stabilizes completely at 86°C. It seems that I am getting slightly high temperatures compared to the 17 inch laptops.
-
repast with IC7 your card ! You can decrease up to 5°C the temp of your card.
86° under furmark that's very good. anything below 94°C will not die on you before several years -

Silicon has got a bit hotter recently, also you may just have a slightly hotter core sample.

Guys I'd appreciate a bit of help.
My laptop can't detect the speakers plugged in through the input jack. It used to detect headphones but now that's gone too. I've reinstalled realtek and xblaster drivers twice now but that doesn't help. I have a suspicion that something isn't loading correctly on windows startup - maybe i said no to a dialogue box that should have been ran.
any input appreciated.

Anybody with AMD cards suffered from any issues after upgrading to 14.9? I'm having some serious driver crashes upon booting up the machine. Also, I noticed some artifacting in AutoCad which is starting to get me worried..
Should I rollback to 14.8 or won't this make a difference? -

I hit my F5 key at a funny angle and broke the tab on the bottom of the key. I was told that this is not covered under warranty. What are the options for replacement keyboards? This is for a P157SM - Special Edition AKA Sager 8255. I looked on ebay and didn't see anything nor other sites I looked. Any idea as to cost of keyboard replacement?

No one is saying you are but we don't know your level of expertise. The number of people who did not realise the camera was not working when it was simply not turned on....
What happens when you try and open the hotkey program manually? -

As I often say to people, "Humor me for a moment." And if I end up being correct, and they clearly feel like an idiot, before they can get defensive or make excuses, I immediately counter with, "No, it's just a second set of eyes. Trust me, I'll do this sometime in the future too, and I hope you help me too, instead of thinking I'm a tard."
E.g., Power management support, RFKill (WiFi/Bluetooth radio), etc... are commonly supported in the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) driver, which is always OEM-specific and not always using keyboard codes, even if the Fn key is used. This is may be separate from the brightness and audio drivers, which are fairly universal and generic these days, even with a published and common set of keyboard code, just like any key or toggle (e.g., Shift). And that's before we even consider the less necessary and often OEM-specific functions, which are often just unpublished, non-standard keyboard codes, possibly with the Fn key (which is not standardized in PCs).
There can also be conflicts between drivers as OEMs reuse or have similar combinations but require specific drivers. E.g., there was a problem a few years back with both Linux and Windows built-in drivers for WMI which detected select Lenovo model notebooks as Acer ACPI compatible, and autoloading those drivers that didn't work. It could very well be that Lenovo licensed some Acer code, but then they modified it, but not enough in a way that the Acer driver thought it was no longer an Acer. In Windows, one had to manually override the Microsoft driver that thought it was the "best." In Linux, one had to "blacklist" the Acer WMI driver, which would then let the built-in Lenovo driver work.
This happens a lot, especially with those core, WMI functions. Maybe it's because I deal with installing both Windows and Linux a lot more than getting pre-installed Windows that is setup by an OEM, but one of the best ways to know your WMI support isn't setup correctly in the OS is when the fan is whirling constantly at full speed. -
the touchpad doesn't change colors, maybe need to reinstall those drivers too.
Is there any default software to use with the webcam btw? -

Asking for a second set of eyes and a little humbleness can go a long way to addressing the issue. -
I'm considering getting the 15" P157SM model with 4940mx and 980m. Would anyone know of any good guides/tutorials on overclocking these parts? And can the power supply that comes with this model even handle the overclocking?

I found a modded 14.9 driver from Mahmoudelfar that completely fixed the crashing issue. Before, I was crashing in any game literally within five minutes (Warframe and Archeage were unplayable), and now I haven't had a single crash since. I won't link it because I'm not sure what the rules are about external links : - / -
Is it from this blog? -
Yes, it was on a Guru3d thread that he would upload to beforehand, but apparently there was some issue with him involving him accepting donations that he wasn't supposed to be receiving, so he moved it to a blogspot.

Hi. I have a question about possible upgrade from 860m Kepler to newer cards (9xxm series, Maxwell). It's is possible to upgrade? And if yes i need to have specific BIOS version (which one)?
Thank you. -
Hi guys,
This is directed to owners of this machine, what do you guys think of the build quality as I'm looking to purchase this on Pc Specialist?
I've read reviews and they state it's average and attracts finger prints -
Also how does it compare with the 15.6" Skyfire III from PC Specialist apart from the single fan is there anything fundamentally different as I do like the look of it but the single fan might be something to lean away from?
-
Well, I personally love the build quality of my P157sm and think that it is very sturdy.
The hinges aren't flimsy at all in the sense that if you shake the table accidentally, the lid won't sway too much. At the same time, they aren't tight enough that you need to pry open the laptop, this laptop can be easily opened with one hand.
The laptop does attract plenty of fingerprints and oils, but not so much that it makes the laptop look like an oily mess the moment you put your hand on it. As someone with particularly sweaty hands, I only feel the need to clean it every couple of weeks and it was nowhere near as bad as some of my other laptops that had aluminum cases. I've found that cleaning the rubber surfaces with mild dish soap (anything that says "easy on the hands", "hand-safe", etc) takes off the oil without being too abrasive on the coating. And regardless of the fact that it picks up fingerprints, I love the way the rubber finish feels.
In regards to durability, I dropped a bowling pin on the left corner of the palm rest once (the pin was standing on a shelf and fell about 4 feet when I accidentally shook the desk below it). There was more damage to the bowling pin than there was to the laptop, although the sharp corner was rounded off and there is a small superficial crack 1 cm in length (it doesn't seem as if it causes any structural issues, and it looks like it is just on the outer shell of the palm rests) along the height of the laptop where the corner is.
Overall, I'd say the laptop is pretty well built. It probably isn't the best out there, but it will withstand the test of time.Last edited: Dec 5, 2014 -
Thank you for that assessment TeleBooth
How do you find the fans and noise? -
The fans can be VERY loud, but in those instances (usually very heavy gaming or benchmarking) I have headphones on and the noise is really a non-issue. There is also an option that is kind of like a "Turbo Mode" for the fans that is activated by hitting Fn + 1 that basically turns your computer into a jet engine (46 dB+). Although when in use during school for word processing or browsing the web, there are rarely occasions when my laptop is louder than any other in the lecture hall. If you do have roommates, the "Turbo Mode" could get very annoying, but there is also a "Quiet" mode, which restricts the RPMs of the fans; however, considering there are two of them, and the laptop already stays pretty cool, the "Quiet" mode shouldn't raise your temps to point that any part of the computer (aside from the vents and the bottom) should feel hot to the touch.
In conclusion, the fans can be VERY noisy, but they can are also relatively quiet in most situations that would require silence (i.e. a lecture hall, doing homework, in a nursery, burgling, observing wild lions, library), and, regardless of how loud they are, they move A LOT of air and keep the laptop very cool.
The laptop also has some features which might very well kill it for you, though, such as Clevo's history neglecting to update the BIOS of their older lines of laptops (sometimes these lines are only 2 years old), thus preventing you from using newer cards on these older laptops. -
Observing wild lions? Oh...
With CPU temp below 65C and dGPU off the Clevos usually don't use fans at all. If you have only SSDs then the system is completely noise-free. -

Any gaming machine will need to spin up, I think the chassis is fairly adaptable to the environment. But no heavy gaming in the library
You should be studying anyway

Hey, I'm thinking about getting the Sager NP8250 from GenTech. Can you give me your thoughts as to how future proof this setup will be?
15.6" 1920X1080 LED backlit (Matte)
GTX 970M 6GB
Core i7-4710MQ, 2.5~3.5GHz
IC Diamond (CPU/GPU)
8GB DDR3 (8x1)
120GB Crucial M500 mSATA SSD
1TB 7200rpm SATA III 32MB 3GB/s
Intel Wireless-AC 7260
With Win 7 Home Premium
I can chuck better stuff on, but the less money I spend the better... Is it worth paying +$130 for the i7 4810MQ? Also, will there be heat problems with the 970M? Finally, Is there a big difference between Crucial and Samsung SSD's?
Thanks in advance. -

It sits along side the P15x model as graphically they will perform very similarly. Each with its own benefits and compromises.

Thanks, I'm probably looking at the P650SE now.

It's an excellent choice for those needing power and mobility

Torovan , about your configuration, i recommend you to take a 240 gb SSD, now windows weight a lot, and having games directly on SSD is a big plus for loading times
