    Flaming... chicken... LOL.
I always thought it was some kind of phoenix but it's the first I hear about flaming chickens.

    Hello!

Everything is working. The clevo drivers (hotkey) did not work, but the ones from the Sager website for this model did. Go figure! What is that latest hotkey app supposed to bring to the table, because the UI is awful and doesn't fit my screen. I think there is the Clevo hotkey app on their website which is 8.0150, and the one I dl from the sager website which is 1.15.15. Anyway should I always go with the Sager drivers from now on?

Anyway, no flaming chicken for me I guess. The keyboard is great, much better than the one I spilled beer all over (lol)

Now unto my journey on notebook OCing. Any good references for a complete noob?

    Also:

I see that there are some panel colar settings from Prema, how can I tell what panel I have (also interested if I have the 60 or 95 gamut screen)

I got the AU Optronics B156HW01 V1 not sure if that is the 95% or not. A discontinued panel certainly. Question: If I have crucial ram do I need to buy specifically crucial ram to do an upgrade, and they have to be matching sticks e.g no 4 with an 8, and so forth? Also, can you tell I'm trying to get my five posts : 0

    *edit*

    aw, I didn't win the panel lottery : (

I cannot get the keyboard backlight working with the Perma bios. Now I can't access the latest that is over on Tech-Inferno because they are so 'exclusive' but I can access a variant for the p157sm-a on Perma's great website (not the post recent I presume) and it does not work with the keyboard backlight, I tried a EC reset (battery + ac pull) as well as just about every hotkey driver known to mankind. As well I wanted to ask if it matters how to put in that led ribbon cable, because it seems to work on both sides...

For now I am reflashing stock plus the old 1.15.15 hotkey software as that is the only thing that works for me.

    P.S

Any one of a workaround for the fact that my p157sm-a has the new keyboard with the moved Fn key. The computer now is always going to think the fn key is the windows key and vice-versa.

Anyway I'm going to call it a night, but thanks this forum and community is g reat resource!

Wow. Dude. Edit post button. You don't need to make so many new posts man.

Go talk to Prema first and see what is going on with your BIOS/EC/etc.

I would suggest PMing Prema and let him know what is happening, he should be able to fix with ease, or if there is a specific hotkey driver set for his bios, he would have that information as well.

I have a question now. Is it possible for me to get a prema BIOS with one of your systems? Like, I call and request in my order that you install and test and make sure the Prema BIOS is working before shipping? I do not believe any other vendor would do that, but since you're here helping this user fix his Prema BIOS issue I want to ask. Just in case laptops get better again in the next few years when I need to buy one.

I have a friend with P157SM. The problem is that it randomly starts beeping and then it shuts off. Sometimes it can last a few hours, other times it wont make it through couple of minutes. It is not heat related. Tried different GPUs. Doesn't has another CPU to give it a try.

I did a quick search, but I only found the problem in an Australian forum and it wasn't resolved. The owner over there sent his laptop to the local reseller and they've returned it to him saying that the problem can't be reproduced. It's kinda odd since it definitely wont last a day without showing off its teeth.

Sometimes it does it right from a start, when everything is cool, even before loading the Windows. So as I said, it's not temp related.

Another question - has anyone tried to boot without GPU inside? When my friend does this it strarts beeping, the leds are blinking and turns off after half a minute or so.

A chip can go from cold to hot in a fraction of a second ;) If not a real temperature then it's either a reporting temperature or lack of a fan signal sending the ec into a panic.

Of course, the thing is - it wont start (starting with beeping then shutting down even before Windows is on), couple of BIOS resets later, it would start and go on for a few hours before it does it again. Nothing else is changed, just BIOS reset. The thermal paste is the same and etc, nothing else is touched. We're at a loss. Will check those suggestions, thanks!

Perma did fix it with relative ease. I was making a rookie mistake.

Another query. I am running hdmi to an lg hdtv and the audio isn't playing through the hdmi cord (cord has worked with computers in the past) and there is not setting in the nvidia control panel like I am used to... Any idea if the setting is in the bios?

I have the tv set to default device under sound and recording options...

Also wondering if the audio pass through works on the display ports as well?

Guys any idea if the display ports trasmit audio as well? Also any idea why I'm not gettin audio to my lg HDTV? It does come up under audio devices? I have perma mod installed, maybe that has something to do with it. Also does anybody have some good links to some reading material on how to OC cpu and maybe gpu at the bios level? I have the i5 4210M.

    Sure:
    i5 4210M 2.6 w/ o turbo
    965 MXM 4 gig
    8 gig DDR3L 1600 MHZ clocked
    128 gig M4 Crucial + 500 Gig mechanical
    p157sm-a chassis

hdmi to LG HDTV capable @ 1080

I am interested in figuring out if the 2x display ports will do audio to a monitor as well as figuring out why I'm not getting audio out of the TV which works with same HDMI cord from desktop video card (560 ti)

Also interested in some beginner resources to start OCING cpu + gpu through PERMABIOS @ bios level (or to start with intel XMU if that is advisable)

Remember your ports go through the Intel chip so the settings would be in there. As such the outputs will follow the specs of the Intel hd graphics in abilities.

    Hi guys,

I'm about to purchase my first clevo. It's down to the P650se and the P157SM-a. I really like the extra GPU mem 6gb compared to 3gb with the P157sm (gtx970) but I hear a few negative comments about the keyboared and touchpad.

Between the two machines which do you recommend? I will have to use the machine at work (not travelling to different sites) and then at home. I will only initially be able to get bare bones - install my old hdd and then upgrade down the track to ssd etc.

Use - Usual work duties then at home i stream TV, listen to lots of music and play a few online games - WOT mainly. Important features - good speakers, screen image (just getting the 1080p screen but also worried about the non IPS screen in the P157SM-a) and obviously I want to run on top graphics for WOT. At home it will always be used in WIFI mode.

If I should look at another Clevo please suggest. All comments appreciated.

I'm based in Australia so running from local specs - www.affordablelaptops.com.au

    Cheers Aussie280

TN panels are high quality for the most part on the P15xSM-A models. In the Clevo models in general, in fact. IPS isn't an end-all better quality screen, and users seem to forget this.

I personally would suggest that you get the P750ZM if you have the money. If the SM-A is already in your strike zone as for bulk, you won't have a problem with the ZM, but the P15xSM-A models aren't as amazing with CPU cooling as they could be, and the ZM model won't have optimus issues for you to worry about, while still being a 15" model.

Hi D2 thanks for the suggestion. In Oz the ZM is another $450 I just can't do. Ive already increased my budget by 30%. So I have to look at P157SM-A, P650SE or other model at same price point. The P650SG is popular here but again out of my price range. To consider either of the two models above I've stripped them down to bare bones. So from the selection you are telling me the P157SM-A have/can develop heating issues around CPU - not keen to go that way then. Reliability is preferred. What about P650SE or at the price point they are pretty much the same? should I just drop to WA50SC and save the pennies if I can't stretch to ZM range?

You can fit it with the copper heatsink of the 17 inch models to improve CPU cooling on the P15x range, but it's fine for stock it's just if you want to overclock it does get warm.

The advantage of the P15x range over the P650SE is the ability to upgrade the CPU/GPU.

No, I was saying that the P157SM-A has worse cooling than the P17xSM-A and the P750ZM. I would suggest the P157SM-A without a doubt any day, socketed is the way to go. But as meaker suggested, fitting it with the P17xSM-A heatsink will help. The PxxxSM-A series is a series that can truly shine with a little aftermarket work. Clevo has stepped up their game with the ZM and P6xxSx series in that it is quite close to the best it will be without end-user modding, but the SM-A is indeed a good machine. That gets my vote.

I'm sorry your budget can't stretch to the ZM. I know how hard it is to buy in non-US countries.

Thanks guys, So I have two options P650se has the slim line design M.2 pci-e slots but soldered GPU/CPU or the P157sm-a for its upgradability . Now in Oz to upgrade the GPU we are looking for another $600-800 AUD. Then the CPU upgrade could be $200-$400. Thats getting close to a new machine. In reality I will keep the laptop for 3 years. Laptop design in this period will definately change. I just don't think I would upgrade these items on this platform as its an older chunky chassis with some known issues - keyboard/trackpad/overheating. Agree if I could stretch to the ZM it would be the way to go but I think the P650SE has it. I will upgrade to the Matte 3K screen and start with 8GB ram, reuse my fairly new hybrid HDD I have in my old Dell 1555. I'll do small upgrades down the track with killer wifi, duel ssd drives and add another 8GB ram. I understand the cooling on the 650 is pretty good so I shouldn't have trouble with CPU of GPU anyways and I'll take out the 3 yr warranty.

If you're taking the P650SE and want to keep it for three years, try to get a 3 year warranty.

Hi, few questions about my clevo p150sm

    1. There is coming Windows 10, is clevo prepared for it? ANyone tried preview edition? Any problems with drivers? I am not worried about GPU drivers as they will update them for sure :p
    2. Can I change key assignment that the one between space and Alt is also Alt key? Always when i want to use alt i am using this f*** key, and it annoys me so much. Why they place is there? And the same key already exist on the keyboard!
    3. When I am updating a Intel driver i am getting such a message after restart and graphic doesnt work - "No amd graphics driver installed or is not functioning properly. Please install the amd driver appropiate for your amd software"
    4. I have some problems with HDMI output, some random lines sometimes on the external screen and sometimes greyish pixels for example in shadows or something. Is it normal? So sometimes it is realted to the showed image and sometimes it is just randow line of white/grey pixels flickering.

I've no problems with HDMI on my P370SM3, so either your cable, your monitor or your HDMI port (or even your GPU) is iffy then.

I can't say how Win 10 works on the SM models. @Ethrem might know if it works better on the SM-A models; I think he tried it.

HDMI cable should be fine as I tried few already and it is digital signal so should be any interferences like analog audio or something.
I was thinking maybe it is something about PAL/NTSC or set of colours? I tried also different monitors and TV. At the beginning I just though it is my monitor, but then i connected laptop to TV and it was similar and then tried another one.

Have you looked at the connector, does it look fine? Any corrosion or any pins covered?

If that looks fine you can try re-seating the GPU.

If the connector on both the hdmi and mxm look ok it could be an issue with the gpu itself generating the signal.

    Hey guys!

I just got done repasting my CPU and GPU of my P150SM with some GELID gc-extreme and while my temps are greatly reduced, the CPU fan speed is still erratic and loud. Even at idle, the speed keeps ramping up to max and then back down at random, sounds like a godamn jet engine at max speed. I've read posts about custom bios or "tricks" for fan control, but I can't find them. Could someone help me out?

    Thanks in advance!

Yeah I've seen that around, can't say I know much about it. I'm a bit hesitant to flash the Bios because I don't want to have to send it back to the company in the US to have the bios fixed in case the flash fails (I live in Canada, so shipping would cost a fortune). I several posts regarding the Hotkey application having some "hidden" settings or tricks for fan management, but I haven't been able to find anything on it. Is Premamod the only option?

A friend of mine has the Sager NP8268-S (Clevo P150SM-A) and is complaining about display calibration issues. The attachment has the AIDA64 polled info about the model of the display. Can anyone help us out with the calibration of his display, perhaps with a calibrated profile?

The gpu is a nvidia 870m.

    Also open to other suggestions/solutions.

    Thanks in advance!

He will have to calibrate his as every panel is different, it also depends on the lighting conditions of the room if he wants it as accurate as possible.

Thanks for your quick response. The friend in question is not very tech savvy and in another city than I am. Maybe we could have a profile that someone else is using and use it as a good baseline to start things off from? I guess he plays mostly in rooms lit by fluorescent lights.

He does not need to be tech savvy, he just needs to run through the manual adjustment so it looks "right" to his eyes.

I just had a thought after watching Mr. Robot (a fairly interesting new show that aims to portray hacking and cybersecurity in TV/film more realistically, amidst some other drama), where the integrated webcam of a laptop is remotely hijacked and recording without the indicator light being on. I know worrying about webcam safety is pretty common now after some privacy scares, but I'm just curious how Clevo installs the webcam since it varies from laptop to laptop. Is the webcam light directly hardwired with the webcam so that it can't be bypassed without physically cutting the current?

If anyone has any experience from disassembling this (or very similar models), or, conversely, if they have disabled the always-on functionality of the indicator light by software, that would satisfy my curiosity. Thanks!

The cables all go off to the motherboard so you can't really tell by looking.

I have been thinking of ordering a P157SM-A (Eurocom X3 R2), but I noticed today that this model is no longer listed on Clevo's website. Does anyone know if the P15x series is truly discontinued by Clevo? And if so, is there is something on the horizon to replace it ? The P65x series lacks the upgrade capability, and the P75x series seems to be closer to a desktop replacement.

Not sure if this has come up yet, but has anyone installed Windows 10 on the P157SM-A yet? I'm curious as to how well the drivers work (assume you can use the 8.1 drivers?) particularly the hotkey app / driver.
