As an update as I could not see a clear answer:

Quadro K (Keppler series) works on the SM-A without any inf mods. Simple install.

Tested with a K5000m. GPU-z reports correctly (temps, voltages, etc). No vBios mod, just Prema Bios. Tried Alien Isolation for a bit, all OK. Passed.

Nice, are you running anything in particular on that quadro or did you just get it for a good price?

Decent price bought it for another machine, but could not resist not trying the Clevo first.

Got some unopened 980M Alienware 4GB which I would like to test but not at this time

Nice to have the option between a 980m and k5000m, and have a system capable of running both.

Well I dont know yet if the Alienware will work in the 751zm. No longer have the SM-A.

But yes, good to know the Clevo is capable of handling Quadros without a driver inf.

Not at all. Over the winter period acted as a rodent and bought several laptops and components.

Now I`m trying to decide if I need two laptops or should I start building the mini itx x99

I was also using the latest BIOS, and indeed stopped getting BSOD's, but as i said, i couldnt get the dGPU to work again on external screens. (disabling intel driver worked for my laptop screen)

Do you have any other suggestions? Windows 8 works out of the box with inf mod.

    Yes, im using: https://biosmods.wordpress.com/gtx9/

The latest v2 bios for the 970M 6gb.

As I said, it no longer BSODs on new drivers, but it just doesnt load the dGPU anymore in W10.

    Hi Owner's Lounge

My P150SM fan is so loud and start spinning when there is no need for it.

    - Can anybody give me a useful program or link me to a tutorial on how to fix these fans.
What I mean with "fix" is prevent it from starting so suddenly and instead have it spinning all the time or something like that. Just some BIOS tweak that actually works, you feel me?

I can't bring this thing anywhere because out of nowhere it will just start spinning up!

Summary of my system (Only running Chrome right now)
    Operating System
    Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
    CPU
    Intel Core i7 4700MQ @ 2.40GHz 60 °C
    Haswell 22nm Technology

    RAM
    16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-11-28)
    Motherboard

    Graphics
    Generic PnP Monitor (1920x1080@60Hz)
Intel HD Graphics 4600 (CLEVO/KAPOK Computer)
    4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M (CLEVO/KAPOK Computer) 39 °C
    ForceWare version: 368.22
    SLI Disable

    Storage
    465GB Samsung SSD 840 Series (SSD) 42 °C

    MB Series: P15SM
    BIOS Version: 1.03.05
    KBC/EC Firmware: 1.03.01

I actually made an unboxing video when I brought it back in 2013: YouTube - and yes it was equally loud back then!
    - Don't get me wrong I love this laptop but the fans... Loud as f*ck

Thanks, I hope you guys can help!

    Sincerely,
    An annoyed P150SM user

    Yes I have jasonlam

I have a friend with the exact same model and specs who has have the same experience with the fan noise ever since he brought it.

    - Can anybody give me a useful program or link me to a tutorial on how to fix the loud fans?

As you mentioned, Chrome was the only program running at the time. Do you mind letting us know what kind of websites Chrome was on? Live streaming websites like Twitch? Or plain text websites like Google and forums? The reason I am interested in that is your CPU temp seems to be a bit too high with only Chrome running.

Do you have a software which allows you to monitor the CPU clock speed installed? It can be the Intel XTU, ThrottleStop or HWiNFO. If so, please let us know what clock speed the CPU is running at when the fan is getting noisy.

Furthermore, do you have Hotkey installed? You can simply modify the fan rpm (either having a variable rpm based on temperatures of the CPU and GPU or running both fans at full speed all the time) by pressing Fn + 1.

Yes I have both Hotkey 8.0134 and Intel XTU installed. The fans start spinning loudly at low to medium CPU speed. And just average Facebook surfing with an ad blocker installed.
You can simply modify the fan rpm... How?

    - Can anybody give me a useful program or link me to a tutorial on how to fix the loud fans?

Pretty sure these are the last ones released. Can anybody help me get that "Silent Mode" in Hotkey 8.0134 or another usefull program to make these jet motors start at a higher temperature CPU speed?

    Thanks

If that's the latest version for your model the feature just may not exist in the firmware.

In my opinion, your CPU temp is a bit too high with such a low workload on the CPU. Perhaps try to re-paste your CPU.
I have a similar spec to your laptop. When I am surfing on the Internet (not live streaming websites which pretty much push your CPU to max clock), my 4710MQ is also running at low to med speed as you said. The CPU temp I get is around 47 oC, but please note that the ambient temperature is 32 oC with a relative humidity of 90%. Unless you're living in a place of which the temp and relative humidity are higher, I otherwise think your CPU is getting too hot.

The method I mentioned earlier to change the fans' rpm (by pressing Fn + 1) only allows you to choose either letting the system itself to decide the fan rpm based on the temperature or forcing it to run at max at all time. If you're after for letting the fans to only start spinning at a higher temperature, I am afraid that the official firmware (and software) for P150SM don't allow that (this function only exists on SM-A laptops with new BIOS & EC).

Windows settings also affect the behaviour of the fans and CPU clocks. Under the power settings, you can see "Minimum processor state" and "System cooling policy". I am using "5%" and "Passive" respectively. Although these tweaks are minor, it helps lower your CPU temp and thus fan rpm.

    Hope these help.

I too think that 60`C only being running Chrome is wayyy to high temps. I have the same processor as you just with 8 gigs of hyper X and an 8970M and I dont get more than 35 degrees idling in windows (I clean and repaste my cpu and fans every 4 or 5 months, so they are pretty clean) and 21C idling in Manjaro Linux which doesnt even switch on the fans. I too recommend you to take a look at the fans and at the cpu paste since it might be a bit overused.

hi folks, i'm not sure where to turn to, because my reseller ain't helping me much:

    i'm not sure if this is a hardware problem (if you can help me to narrow it concretely, i'll be most happy), or is it a windows related problem, or its something else, but here's the situation;

    1) upgraded to windows 10 (and now i can't roll back because i deleted the old windows, it was a process that sigh, i'll explicate later)
    2) playing games i get BSOD shutdown, and it never logs more than 100%, and if it does, it doesn't restart for me. Tried and tested.
2a) some of the errors i've been getting:

*memory management (BSOD & ORANGE SCREEN)
    *bad pool header (BSOD)
*fault in non paged area (BSOD)

    so what i've done

    A) disable system paging, restart, delete pagefile.sys, restart, then re-enabled system paging (managed automatically, and it sets to 4GB)
    B) updated all windows related stuffs (therefore unable to now do the win10 tweaks as suggested by the many forumers here to disable telemetry, etc etc etc), overrode all drivers with the ones provided from Clevo's website (except for the NVidia 980M drivers, which i grabbed from Nvidia, then updated it) [but somehow my fingerprint sensor won't work and isn't recognized as an input for sign-in options, i'm not sure why, but again my reseller ain't helping (non usa)]
C1) tried to narrow down by 'stressing' the laptop, by playing games of course. the BSODs occur during gaming. Games i've tried; from low consumption games like stardew valley to high vram consumption games like skyrim, gta 5, the witcher 3 and shadow of mordor
C2) oddly, despite heavily modding my game, i've used around 3.5GB to 3.9GB of VRAM on skyrim, but never had a BSOD. However, GTA 5 and shadow of mordor can make my p150sm-a go into BSOD.

i'm kind of desperate right now, because i want to identify the issue and rectify it, short of sending it to my reseller because
    a) its expensive, because it costs around nearly USD200 of sending it both ways (to my reseller and sending it back), and it takes weeks
    b) windows is not cooperating because it shows the errors but doesn't spesify as to WHICH / WHAT codes (that normally appears after showing the errors)

Please help me, because i'm stuck at win 10 and i've got no way to downgrade anymore. When it was with win 8 these BSODs don't happen (or it may, but i'm not so sure, because i've not been gaming for quite some time, like more than half a year already)

    * i think i eliminated the paged in non paged file error by performing the steps for the syspage, but as i went along with it, because i went and clear contents in c: (my ssd), somehow the tool that microsoft uses also removed the old windows installation (24GB).

I've not tried it. Is it easy to do that? I've only opened the back panel just to clear some dust on the heat pipes, but i've never attempted to remove / replace RAMs.

All your errors point to ram so it would be the first thing to try normally. The ram under the main cover is easy with the ram under the keyboard requiring a couple of extra steps.

Maybe get your reseller to walk you through over the phone?

Yes, most errors point to a faulty ram stick or timing or something. Try running on single stick on stock timings etc... If that doesnt help try moving a single channel stick to the rest of the 4 slots, to see if the fault is in the slot instead of the stick. If that doesnt help you could also try another ram stick if you have a spare one. The 2 back slots are accesible just accesible removing the back cover and the other two slots are under the keyboard. To get to those slots you have to first take off the speaker grill by inserting a screwdriver or something under the grill just on top of the pageup/pgdown button and the speaker grill will come off. Then remove the keyboard by taking off the 5 screws that hold it (be carefull not to pull because it is wired with a very delicate flat wire) then the other two slots should be under there. There is a video in youtube by some dude for another clevo model for removing the CMOS battery that also tells you how to get to the ram slots, its the same procedure eventhough it isnt the same model

I used to think it was very hard to do so as well. But after looking into it, it's indeed very easy and won't take more than 2 min.

alright finally managed to talk to reseller, they asked me to refresh my win10, which I didn't. A more savvy desktop builder friend (over the internet) asked me to do some memtest86, and boy, i can't even pass the first 13 test, no pass at all. all errors galore (like 700k errors after running it for 7 hours).

I'm going to take a long hard look, because right now:

    a) my 3 usb ports on the left is acting up again (and reseller always tell me to reformat / change os, a bit dumb to me, if i say so). I just don't know how to fix this anymore.
    b) my fingerprint is missing. My device manager detects that there's this egis fingerprint (egistec ES603) but i can't use win10 to activate it, not sure why. I can't seem to find any way to fix this despite going to clevo's website and downloading all the 3 fingerprint drivers available.

    c) ram issues (so i'm going to try following the video that's mentioned and see if i can yank out the RAMs and use it one by one)

FYI, i've never attempted any sort of RAM OC-ing, not even via XTU because I was informed that to do all sorts of OC, the best way to do is with Prema BIOS (and i've not touched it).

I'm feeling the jitters because suddenly my laptop's failing left and right. I hope i don't break the keyboard, because that's going to be USD100 right there (the last time i changed it, its like RM450 which is a little bit over USD100 in today's exchange rate)

    wish me luck. le sigh!

just curious guys a friend of mine who owns my old P150SM just wanted to install some newer drivers for his 980M to play some Doom and he mentioned that everytime he installs them he gets a BSOD and sometimes it boots but the logon screen of W8.1 only shows the battery bar. I read that that you need some Prema Bios + VBios combination to get it to work, right? Dunno tho which Vbios and Bios he's using right now but i think i gave him the NB with Prema Bios v2 and the stock VBios.

Hi there, everyone. I've managed to solve one of the problems. Turns out RAM #4 had serious issues, but memtest86 runs fine with the remainder 3 RAMs. I guess I'll RMA the RAM.

Thanks again (very spesifically, in no particular order) without your guidance and advice I wouldn't have attempted what i'm supposed to do to eliminate the cause of the RAM issues & diagnose it.

    @pilililo2
    @jasonlam

So that's one problem solved, but still got others.
If anyone's kind, can you look at this and help me out?
    Here are 2 pictures

    fingerprint1.PNG fingerprint2.PNG

This is after installing fingerprint reader from clevo (and then as per clevo's request, use sager's). From the pictures i've given, I don't think its broken, but I don't know better. Any help? Once this is fixed then I hope to move on to the third problem I've got. I remember seeing "set up a fingerprint" before in windows 8, but I remember seeing the option also disappear after some time, i'm not sure. is the fingerprint sensor supposed to have some sort of light?

Go to your account and add a fingerprint first.

I don't quite get you here. Unless i'm missing a step / missing an information.

On windows 8 / 8.1, without signing in to microsoft account (that live account) thing, I was able to add a fingerprint.

By saying "go to your account and add a fingerprint", does it mean that i've got to change my account from "Local Account Administrator" to "Sign in with a Microsoft Account" instead?

    add-on:

just to re-clarify: earlier in the picture that i've uploaded that says "password", "pin", etc, it doesn't have the option of "add a fingerprint", (like how it was in windows 8). According to internet screenshots, there's a "microsoft hello", but i'm not too keen because afaik windows 8 could already sign in with fingerprint, unless its changed now that local accounts can't?

    add-on 2:

    this website has the pic

    http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/9097-fingerprint-add-remove-windows-10-a.html

but in my case, its exactly what i uploaded. It has
    - require sign in
    - password
    - pin
    - picture password

but no windows hello / set up fingerprint.

unless i'm missing an important step, i just can't find it.

It should be ok I think, it was mostly the second mSATA that changed with that.

hey guys. i just tried to use my headphones for the first time in a long while and they dont work. they are detected by realtek and it disables the speakers and (presumably) shifts the sound to the headphone jack, but there is no output. i used 2 different headphones that i confirmed both work using my phone. i even switched the driver over the the native windows audio driver and it does the same thing after rebooting. more than likely this sounds like my port is dead right?

Have you tried setting 5.1 in the audio options and trying the other jacks?

Did you try after waking up from standby? Audio outputs are controlled by hotkey driver (alias control center now).
It is so, despite whatever one could think

no its on stereo, and i dont know if the mic/output jacks work as i dont have a way to test them
no, i usually dont have hotkey running becasue it clutters the task tray and i never use it so is that the issue? also i still use hotkey not control center because im on windows 7

If you set it to 5.1 those jacks become outputs and you can plug the speakers in and play music to test them.

    Hey all,

Managed to pick up a Metabox P157SM laptop on the cheap just missing its RAM.
The problem is that it fails to post, keyboard, trackpad, LEDS all light up but the fans don't spin etc

I've tried different GPU, RAM etc but nothing appears at all and the only thing I haven't been able to check is the i7 4700mq.

Anyone had a similar problem? I don't want to go splashing out on a refurbished motherboard or CPU without seeing if any of you guys have had something similar.

Its turning on for about 10-15 secs with no display and then powering off before restarting again and its constantly in this loop.

Are you sure your new RAM is good, leads clean, no lint in the sockets? That can all cause problems like this. Also make sure the CMOS battery is good. It shouldn't be dead this soon unless it was a bad one to begin with, but it's worth a try. Maybe first try removing it for a few minutes with your main batt out too and hold the power button with everything out to drain all the power. Not sure if you really need to hold the power button down, but I've been told to do that by a computer repair guy. After that, put the CMOS battery back in, and see if it runs. Aside from that, make sure everything you've put in is good. A corrupt hard drive can cause issues as well, I had something like this happen in an ASUS once and it was only a bad HDD. After all that, you can try to look for a short on the motherboard or cracked solder from it being dropped. Sometimes a little touch up with a hot air soldering tool is all that's needed. Looking for motherboard issues is a last resort though, make CERTAIN that you have double checked everything first. The great thing about these machines aside from quality is how customizable and easy to repair they are. Good Luck!

Something very weird happened with my p150SM-A today, but I think my new RAM was just seated bad. I installed it late last night and it worked fine, but today when I turned it on, the power button turned blue just for a second and went off. I waited about 15 seconds and it flashed on for a second and back off without touching it. Since the RAM was the only thing new I assumed it was that, so I removed it and it started up right away. I tried the RAM in my old HM and it did a checkdisc at startup, but then booted. I scanned the RAM, and it was fine, so I put it back in my SM and it's working fine now, so all is well.

Something similar happened to me while changing some settings in the bios on my P150SM (Prema mod BIOS in this case, but bug is present in the stock BIOS too). It happened while changing some PXE settings, the bug is caused, I think, because the settings stored take up more space than the BIOS chip is able to store, so after changing these settings and rebooting my PC didnt POST. Nothing appeared on screen and just kept rebooting. Since I knew the problem was caused by the settings that I changed I just went and disassembled the PC and removed the CMOS battery for about 45 minutes (just wanted to be real sure lol), put it back in and BIOS was back to stock settings. Configured the BIOS back to correct settings and PC booted propperly :). Go ahead and try removing CMOS battery for about half and hour without being plugged in and with the laptop battery removed of course, then you may have some chances to make the PC boot since we dont really know what caused your problem

So... Any chance this machine will be able to run a GTX 1060?

I just updated my BIOS to Prema mod v1 today and I am very please with the capabilities of it. I have the 870m, so I didn't want to risk the issues people were having with v2. I've asked this elsewhere, but has anyone with an 870m flashed the v2 Prema BIOS without FPS drop? Just curious.
