How many or is it just 1 Mini PCIE slot inside?
Because I was just checking this out.

Just the one and it's a 1x to the wifi card, you are much better off with internal GPUs.
You do have the Express card slot as an easier option if you REALLY want to go that way. -
Yeah, but it so darn expensive ><
unless you wanna sell me a GTX980m for $500 =) -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The performance of an external solution per $ will be lower than that though
What about a 970M?Takaezo likes this. -
Yeah I could get at GTX970m
how much of a power difference to the GTX980m (%) -
About 25% on stock. But it's a good overclocker in general!
And still the second (mobile) best card in the market!

Lol, well you learn something new every day
-
So true... Always learning something new here at work or just by reading... The minute I stop I get bored lol

Anyone know of an example of this that worked correctly?

You could try removing the internals from the two bricks, soldering their outputs straight into the power box PCB and building it all into a single enclosure, ensuring their is enough ventilation for heat/have a fan in there.

What are you struggling with? It's pretty simple, remove the rubber feet hiding the screws on the front, unscrew the screws and unclip the bezel, unscrew the side screws, carefully remove the panel (it will still be plugged in), remove the cable, then reverse, using some tape to hold down the connector in the panel to avoid loose connections.

But be aware that you have to unclip it from the inner side of the bezel not the outer side. I didn't knew it for the first time and nearly broke the whole bezel apart!
-
Exactly! Just get your fingertips between the screen and bezel; it should pop out easily.

Yeah, that's probably the Chi Mei N173HGE-L11 Standard Screen, which is not bad, but has a slightly bluish cast.

It seems that they offer a "compatible" one....

Did anyone applied the screw mod on his Panther? Is this even possible?
Seems that I had little luck with the CPU part on mine:
This is the result I got by screwing as hard as I could without cracking something up:
So CLU and OC'ing is a No Go yet.
Any advices how to measure, if the heat sink may be warped too or the IHS may be uneven? Just take a razor blade and put the edge side on the surface? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I'd say due to the pattern changes with the screws there that it's likely pretty even and that adjusting the mount would help even it up.
Takaezo likes this. -
You have a point! By "adjusting the Mount", what do you mean specifically? Just wiggle the heatsink a bit when repasting or doing some hard modding?
-
It is worth trying before spending more money, but that never worked for me. Poor fitting heat sinks has been common on Clevo notebooks, but that seems to be improving with newer models.
On my Panther the contact pressure was essentially non-existent and far worse than yours with the original heat sink. It was deformed and using Liquid Ultra was a no-go for me also. I had to use IC Diamond to plug the gap, which was not great. I bought a new heat sink from Eurocom and that made a huge improvement. I am able to use Liquid Ultra now and temps are much improved.CaerCadarn likes this. -

To alter the mount would involve adjusting the screws or backplate. I'll agree while it's easy to say then it's not always easy to do.
-
I remember your postings in the past about it!
I have to think about how "to adjust" the heatsink to apply constant pressure. Other than screw modding I have no idea, which seems quite a challenge on this one!
I will apply CLU now on my new 970m's and start some benching. But with stock CPU settings I will have half as much fun!
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
A new heatsink would be an easier solution if you don't mind ordering another one.
-
Get new CPU heatsink lol... Oh what happened to your 780Ms? Where did those 970Ms pop out from?
-
Yeah that's probably one way to go. But I have no guarantee that the "new heatsink" will be of a better Quality; will try it anyway!
Remember? You gave me the Information that a german Reseller (Nexoc) sold the 9x0m's cheaply! I couldn't resist.....
As they are powered now by CLU (which was fairly easy to apply -> Credit goes to @Mr. Fox
) I have the faint impression to own a really bad ass machine now! Benching results will follow as soon as I have sorted out the overheating Problems with my Sandy-E -> or just benching outside in a cold dark night..... MUHAHAHAHA!!!

I can just imagine you sneaking into an industrial fridge to do your benching.

Okay, CPU replacement heatsink is ordered now. I hope the new one will be of better Quality than mine.
I'm eager to find out what I am able to squeeze out of Sandy-E. Did anyone already benched Sandy-E in his Panther? Didn't find a hint in this thread, but if it is of interest I will gladly provide some results soon (along with 970m SLI)!

Not along side the 970M I don't think, I guess most people investing in the 970M SLI upgrade would also splash a little on a 4930k.
-
My intention is to do that after I am done benching with Sandy-E.

Fair enough
it was not a criticism, just an observation on likely behaviour.

Sure, why not?
-
If you say so, i'm gonna push the button and order it. Or is there a better brand (faster)?
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk -
Of course there a "faster" versions! But you won't notice it in real life usage, other then benching.
1600Mhz will work right out of the box. Anything higher requires Ivy-Bridge (1866Mhz out of the box).
So if you plan reaching 2133Mhz levels RAM tweaking is needed. Should be easier with Ivy-Bridge, cause Sandy-E is a a pain in the a** when it comes to RAM tweaking anything above 1600Mhz. My experience so far.... -
Yeah. I have the i7-4930k, but i'm getting lazy so twerking (tweaking) not gonna happen.
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk -
Then you should be fine with 1866Mhz out of the box I guess!
-
The fastest you can run ram in here is 2400 mhz xmp profile.
And this is thanks to ResidualVoltageLast edited: Dec 13, 2015Mr. Fox likes this. -
Sorry. Noob question : what is xmp profile?

Though with quad channel you want to focus on overall timings as you have enough bandwidth, so if you sacrifice too much latency then 2400mhz is not going to help.
It's going to depend on your sticks.Takaezo likes this. -
See. I have good gpu scores and you have good cpu & combined scores.

@ CaerCadar, you could have tried removing the tiny slotted star washers on the ends of the hold down screws and remove the springs, strech spings out a bit and ensure they are the same relaxed length. Then try remounting. This sould be the first step I would think. ......Did you get it working?
-
I went the lazy way and ordered a new one. But it won't arrive till mid January!
But I can do so and play around with the faulty one. Perhaps I'll have a good spare part afterwards!
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It's always good to have a spare to practice on

True. I don't start a project, if I don't have a spare or two around.

I do, but being in the UK I do seem to have much better access to rapid turn around/inexpensive repair options for any soldering or custom programming work.
-
Soldering and repair are the least of my problems, I have to import close to 100% of the parts I need. That's why it doesn't hurt to have spares around, it doesn't stop the creative flow, in case it doesn't turn out the way you want it the first time, or even the second.
