Ah yes I forgot about the 16XX v2 series, those also work. However the ones I listed are the fastest ones supported. So any of the lower models will also work.

Yes it's awesome the 2XXX v2 series work, even though they are dual socket CPUs. They are actually fully supported as single socket CPUs as well but have the 2S availability if needed.

My only dual socket system was 2x 5355 Xeons and it was awesome.

I doubt we'll see that 4-core 5.1ghz cpu in the p870dm because that cpu is for X99 (socket 2011-v3). The p870dm is Z170 and we will get whatever Kaby Lake brings out under 1151 socket.

Thanks ssj92. Looking at your signature it appears you sprang for a very nice rig indeed. Re: your P870DM v. the P570WM: Nice 4K screen. Nice M.2 Samsung 950 Pro. Nice SLI GTX 980Ms. The sound is awesome compared to the P570WM. There's a lot to love, for sure. Don't regret selling the P570WM to Mr. Fox - you have a really nice replacement.

Personally, I'm all about raw multi-threaded processing power. I'm not a gamer. I don't care about thin or light. I do care about upgradeability, and even though the P570WM is dead-in-the-water as far as new CPUs are concerned, its highest-end option would probably smoke the P870DMs 6700K and anything else out there (multithreaded). I'd love to know what your 10-core Xeon was like and see some comparisons to your P870DM.

Wish Clevo had pushed-out an X99 version. I'm not sure if they ever made the attempt to develop one or if it just wasn't viable from a marketing standpoint, which would have probably been due to this thin and light craze. The upcoming 10-core 6950X is going to be sick!

Maybe try them if you are on a budget, I heard some of them are unlocked.

SSJ, why do you prefer 870 over the panther? I was under the impression it is a far more powerful system.

    @unityole,
Just found an article re: the 1680 v2...Oh mein Gott!! It is unlocked! Overclocking a Xeon to 4.4 on 8c/16t @ 1.33v?? That's ridiculous! Passmark & CPU Boss (for what it's worth) ranks it even with the 5960X at stock 3.0Ghz each. Now THERE'S an option for the P570WM.

    EDIT:

Well guys, I bit the bullet and picked-up a lightly used NP9570 on one of those Electronic Bidding And Yammering sites a few moments ago. The "buy now" price was way, way too good to pass-up, which of course makes me suspicious, but I'm supposedly protected by the bidding company if it doesn't "function as intended". I actually watched the bidding take place for this exact item a few days ago when it originally sold, so I wonder why that deal fell through. I got it for a few hundred less than the winning bid, so I can't complain...unless it doesn't live up to expectations. I'll keep you posted.

I'll be videotaping every aspect of the unboxing, set-up, and testing, just in case the seller is less than honest.

Now I have to sift through this thread and visit Prema's website on how to flash the bios, so that I'll be ready if the machine is up to snuff. Funny, I downloaded Version 5 just the other day, just to have it, as I've been itching to find a P570WM. I wonder if I'll have to do anything to the dual 780s??

Hope this pans out. I've been in awe of this machine since its inception.

I just checked Eurocom's Panther 5 Configure Options menu (it's still accessible), and none of the Xeon 16XX's are listed. Funny, as that company always seemed to offer the most diverse options. So an unlocked 6 core will work (4960X), but 8 cores might be more than the machine can handle?

Mr. Fox and those like him know far more about this stuff than I do, so I'd be a fool to risk it.

Other then it not getting to work you won't risk anything by inserting the 16XX's.

    Prema's Bios + svl7's vBios + 780m's = nice little Beast!
That originally was my spec before upgrading.

    Keep us updated! ;)

Hmm...svl7's vbios...I wasn't aware of that one...I thought Prema had cornered the market! Seems I have a lot of reading to do. I have only checked this thread sporadically in the past, seeing as how I didn't own a P570WM.

Last thing I want to do is brick everything!

As for the Xeon 1680, it seems that what your saying is that the concern is that it might not work, period...not that using it would risk damaging the motherboard or anything. Odd, since it is a V2 and 10 and 12 core 26XX V2's work. The NP9570 I just purchased has an I7 3820, so I plan on upgrading it pretty quickly if all goes well.

@zdroj only cpu would work i think. is 6core 12 thread thats unlocked. if you go for 8 core or more those are locked. make sure cpu is 16** v2, v2 means ivy. 1 means single socket, 6 means perfmance.

i actually dont have this machine but the 6c/12t unlocked would be swappable in a desktop mobo and would work u just need server ram.

Yeah an overclocked 5960x draws around 400-500w on prime95 at 4.5ghz. I did hear the xeon can do it at lower voltages but yeah. Expect it to draw a crap load of watts.

The p570WM has no problem with ANY of the processors I listed. I used the 10-core no problem, there was a member on TI with the 8-core and another with the 12-core.

I don't know about the 16XX series though. They SHOULD work but no guarantee you can overclock them.

Also ram is locked to 1866Mhz no matter what with a Xeon. I had 2133Mhz ram, never saw it above 1866.

That's with prime that uses avx2. Using an old prime, v 27.9 prevents the 5960x forcing your psu to be a nuclear reactor.

Strictly speaking multi-threaded performance, my 10-core destroys this 6700K even @ 4.7Ghz. It even beats my i7 5820K @ 4.5Ghz in my desktop.

I can only imagine how the 12-core performs. ;)

That is a must have, if you plan ocing your CPU while having SLI running. Even if you wouldn't brick the wall, two PSU's are always better because they won't wear off that fast instead of only using one.

I accidentally was benching and forgot to attach the second one once: Hell, that PSU was like a furnace you could fry eggs on it!

yea for sure, thing is if u use for gaming or general application and only sometimes multi threaded, 4.7ghz wins hands down makes everything feels snappy. keep note though skylake multi threaded performance compared to ivy is ~1.2x and you're at high frequency too.

thats like equiv to 5.6ghz on an ivy lol, if we start comparing from ther 5.6ghz quad and octa 3.3ghz and not to mention more cores you have, more performance of efficiency it lacks, i'd say in another gen or two prob cannonlake yet another 5-7% improvement, we can say quad at high clock would equal to a octa low clock thats sandy/ivy.

The thing is, when i had my 10-core and compared it to my 6-core @ 4.5Ghz, there wasn't really a difference in everyday tasks. In gaming it depended more on the GPU.

I think as long as you have a good quad core @ 3ghz or higher it all seems to feel the same.

My laptop however feels more snappier than my desktop but I'm sure that is because of the M.2 SSD vs the SATA SSD.

So what you're saying is, I should notice a big difference in computational power over the most powerful computer that I currently own: an I7 980 (non-X) X58 desktop overclocked to 4.3Ghz??

Just kidding ;). I'm sure even the 3820 will be a noticeable improvement. I'm really itching to try that 1680v2 though...but I'd hate to shell-out $1K+ US for nothing. I re-checked Eurocom's old configuration page for the Panther 5SE, which I believe is what you sold to Mr. Fox, and I did see an option for the 1620v2 but no other 16XX...but all of these 16XXv2 Xeons just have to work in this system if the 26XXv2's work...I hope. And others have shown the 1680v2 to be overclockable in desktop boards, so perhaps grabbing one is not such a risky proposition after all?

I really wish Mr. Fox would chime in on this, though.

Mr. Fox has had no experience using the Xeon in the Panther. I sold him the laptop without the CPU.

I can tell you with the Xeon, everything was locked even in XTU.

There is a small chance that the 16XX v2 is unlocked and in XTU you can overclock.

xeons are mostly better binned than -E cpu anyway thats why they are more expensive and tend to last longer and meant for enterprise people to pay a premium.
get a superwell binned cpu 6 core at 5ghz its worth it.

i'll be honest though, with broadwell E coming out mid/end of this year, its still stuck on x99. for desktop its alright because I can use PCIE SSD that doesnt run off chipset but x99 DMI 2.0 turns me down. if they do skylake-E in clevo i'd jump on it immediately

    Hey guys and gals,

As I said I would, I've been boning-up on the information in these forums (and others) as I await the arrival of my NP9570. The first thing I intended was to upgrade the fresh Win8 that the seller installed on it to Win10.

But it seems that the combination of Win10 and Nvidia drivers are bricking displays, (it appears someone in this thread was affected), and there is no patch/fix yet to avoid this from happening?

So, if I perform a fresh install of Win7 Ultimate, there should be no display bricking concerns (I will stay away from EVGA Precision X as well)?

But something Mr. Fox stated in another forum has me concerned about current Nvidia drivers not offering full support for 780Ms, if I interpreted his comments correctly (something about having four GTX780Ms that are worthless without current driver support)?

My forthcoming NP9570 has 2x780Ms...so basically, where do I stand in all of this, even if I avoid Win10??

    Hi

Don't bother with Windows 10. Really. There is no current benefit and lots of downsides.

You likely won't be affected on any OS, unless you install Precision X. Then there's a chance of being affected. Whatever it was originally in Windows 10 that bricked displays seems to have been silently fixed, and even if you happen to be affected, apparently the Clevo laptops simply don't show anything before windows boot and still work as normal during windows (BIOS and booting is black-screen).

780Ms will work without issue for your P570WM. I suggest 355.60 or 359.00 drivers, mainly for SLI profile support.

Most likely, seems like 980MX will be a stopgap until Pascal is ready.

    Just out of curiosity:

1). Have any of you found a good use for the expresscard slot? I think throughput is limited to something like 500MB/s, so SSD options might be a possibility. I've seen some USB port options, but since they require using a USB port to power them, that doesn't excite me. Gigabit ethernet?

2). Despite Eurocom having advertised that these machines could handle up to 64GB ram, that never came true due to the 4 ram slot limitation on the motherboard, right? I believe I asked this question in this forum quite some time ago, but would just like to reconfirm.

3). Seems that many resellers have IC Diamond as an option for CPU/GPU, but I thought using it could result in scratches on both. CLU appears to be preferred by many overclockers from what I've been reading recently, but is it non-conductive/non-corrosive? And what about set-up? Seems many enthusiasts are fanatical about the TIM they use and endorse it to the end, and perhaps rightly so. I'd be interested to know what some of you have been satisfied with in this machine.

Yeah, there's a separate thread on that in the forum. Funny, I had priced an 870DM on various websites for comparison (not that I really wanted to buy one, but sometimes I do such things just out of curiosity), and theirs had come out cheapest...and that was but two days before they closed shop. Looking back with the knowledge of how they were taking new orders until the end, it makes me sick to think that they may have been baiting people.

Gotta tell ya, though...ever since PC Torque went under ~ 4-5 years ago, I've been anxious about dealing with companies that sell these boutique products (versus Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc.). One day everything seems fine...the next, without warning, they could be gone.

Funny thing happened the other day. I was "watching" a 1680v2 at one of those auction sites...and noticed someone bought it...I think I know who!! I still want to get one, but need to see what condition the NP9570 is in when it gets here.

Please do tell!! Rock solid stable at 1.386v and 4400MHz on 8c/16t?! Blows away your 4960X?? How does it compare to your desktop rig??

Wait a minute...what's your DRAM running at...?!?

I just got it today, so will be experimenting over the next few days. Right now it's bouncing between 4.3 and 4.4. And since the over clocking software is shaky at best i have to try other things to get the results im looking for.

    Ram is running at 2400mhz

Since I never had the opportunity to use a Prema bios, and based upon your statement, overclocking is done through XTU or the like and not the bios settings? Is there some other software you use?
[email protected] the NP9570 was limited to 2133 max. So much potential in this machine, it's mindboggling. Please keep us posted with your progress.

I hope my rig arrives in good shape. BTW, which TIM are you using on your GPU and CPUs?

Very interesting, seems like I should have gone for the 1680 instead of the 2680.

So did you have to "overclock" the ram in the bios to run at 2400mhz? Like, can you actually change ram speeds? I know on my 2680, it was locked to 1866 no matter what I tried.

I knew it would work a while ago, but have been waiting to see what the new tech was going to do first.

I knew that one had no overclocking so never gave it a second thought, but loved that it had 10 cores though.

You need a Prema bios and TB burner to 2400 mhz profiles to your ram. (Care of Residualvoltage- Current memory expert)

    All Hail Prema!

I checked my USPS tracking number, and the NP9570 is out for delivery...so I'm anxiously awaiting its arrival. Once I get it and go through it (will take a couple of days - lots of writing/papers to do at the moment), and if it is not messed-up in some way, it is my intention to obtain a 1680v2. I've overclocked in the past, but nothing like what you guys have done. Even so, I do plan on overclocking the chip - as I ask a ton of questions from the more experienced guys and gals.

But johnksss is a really experienced overclocker, and I wouldn't be surprised if a few others go for this chip, too. So I would gratefully ask/state that anything you can do to work your bios magic for this chip would be fantastic for the community.

Yep, because it is surely lacking.

Looks like someone else just grabbed another 1680v2 off of the same auction site where johnksss bought his (it wasn't me)...and I'd bet the buyer probably reads this thread.

Hear that, Prema? The adopters are coming!

EDIT...seems it may have been Kpaxx!

    Glad it finally happened.

Kind of new they we're over clockable when they first came out, but was not going to be shelling out no couple of thousand dollars for it just yet.
