its sad to see the P640RE is getting axxed. even the RF series took a downgrade to the 965M..... i know you can't give any specifics meaker but do you think there is a possibility for a successor on the horizon?
-
Still no prema mod for this beast?
-
you can always ask prema. im sure if enough people ask and some donations are tossed his way he might be willing to.
-
I would donate $200 if I was sure he is really willing to and will release it shortly.
And if there will be an option to disable NVIDIA card and force Intel only. -
@Prema ^got peeps who want your mod.
in regards to disabling the nvidia card. thats actually not possible. the hybrid mode is baked into it. -
A Prema mod for the Pascal successor to the P640RE would be great too
-
Yeah you can. Just uninstall then vodka driver and it will just run Intel all day
jokes aside, I'm sure that you can disable it in the bios unless it's locked. I never got my p640re. Cancelled order but usually it's in there. If all fails just do it with the nvidia software

The NVIDIA card is automatically send into deep-sleep once the system uses only the iGPU.
I could actually add it if you want...
There won't be a Pascal replacement for this system anytime soon...those mid-end chips will come only later...Last edited: Jul 25, 2016Ionising_Radiation, TomJGX, zacwhite15 and 1 other person like this. -
dude, wait what? i thought it wasn't possible! sometimes i like being proven wrong
.
-
Any thoughts on when? I had figured that with the P640RE being pulled, Clevo/Sager would want a 14" replacement out on the market sooner rather than later.
-
Actually the P640RF succeeded the P640RE, though not sure if Sager ever offered it...
A Pascal version will have to wait for NVIDIA to offer the right chip, they won't release them all at once... -
sad part is they downgraded the GPU with the RF, which turned a lot of people away i think.
-
Prema when are we getting new GPUs lol? Tell us oh mighty one
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
We have never offered a P640RF model, no. -
Any official info on why it was discontinued? Was it selling poorly?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
We have removed a couple of models from our store
This one and the NP8657, hold tight for now.

Thanks for the answer!

Not in Linux...
I do not need NVIDIA card so I have to use buggy software which disables the card. I'd like to have such option in BIOS as in some other notebooks (choice between UMA graphics and switchable/Optimus graphics) to not to rely on the software.relobe likes this. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Usually the switches are between dedicated only and switchable modes. The GPU is a huge draw of this series so it's not a request I have seen before.
-
"Hold tight for now" I know that your not allowed to talk about new models. But that's implying sooner than later

Most Lenovo notebooks have the internal only/Optimus switch. Google for "lenovo bios UMA graphics"
-
Exactly! The software I'm using runs more efficiently under GNU/Linux, but to get decent battery runtime I've installed Windows...
True. Bumblebee was buggy last time I looked at it and, even worse, development seems to have stalled.
Yes, being able to switch off the dGPU would be awesome! And definitely worth a nice donation. Also, I guess that a @Prema BIOS is necessary under GNU/Linux to be able to enjoy undervolting, overclocking etc. since such settings are absent in the standard BIOS. Or are you aware of something similar to XTU and Throttlestop? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I was talking about the models in our range with a switch. -
Nope, alas most cool softwares are windows-only.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It will be possible of course but it would need work from the Linux community and work from the likes of intel to pull off. I think that puts intel off as they are quite protective over their firmware. -
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Indeed. I can think of the recent issue of overclocking non-K processors as an example of product protection. -
Intel lost my respect after I found out that I cannot upgrade one of my notebooks on HM70 chipset as it was forced by Intel to support only Celeron and Pentium processors, and if you put some i3/i5/i7 CPU despite socket and BIOS being compatible - notebook will shutdown after 30 minutes due to backdoor protection mechanism in south bridge.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
30 minutes is an odd timer to have, weird.
-
Hi there a soon to be p640re owner here.
Is this model will be replaced soon?
Any rumors on what would the replacement be?
Oh, and I'm a student and I want to save as much as possible, so I need some advice on my configuration.
Do you think upgrading the wifi card to intel 8260 AC or killer worth the price or should I just upgtade it on my own later?Last edited: Aug 4, 2016 -
What is the PCI device 8086:a118? i.e. vendor ID 8086 (Intel), device ID a118
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Part of the chipset PCI-E driver structure.
-
Sunrise Point-H PCI Express Root Port #9
you might want to reinstall the chipset drivers from sager, that should clear up any issues regarding that device.... unless its causing you system to bluescreen, then i suggest calling your reseller. -
Could you provide more info please? What does windows device manager tell about this device?
I update drivers from kernel.org website
This bug does not seem to cause any issues except flooding the system log with messages like "PCIe Bus Error: severity=Corrected". But it still may be a hardware issue because I've seen it for months, with many different kernels 3.16.*, 4.5.*, 4.6.*, 4.7 and different system settings.
It appears very randomly - at some days I do not see that message at all, sometimes there are hundreds of that message starting from the very system boot, and I could not understand its pattern - how to force it to appear so I would be able to fill the bug report. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It's one of the ports on the motherboard using pci express basically. I'm afraid I don't know which off hand but a device like the wireless card could be having a very minor issue.
-
if its in linux there isn't a whole lot that we can do other than suggest filing a bug report.

Hello guys ... I'm really interested in buying this laptop from pc specialist (it's called defiance II 14") but I wanted to ask if anyone might be so kind to illustrate the drawbacks that I would face if I bought this laptop now instead of waiting for the new pascal architecture (when?). I configured this laptop with 6700hq, 970m and 8gb ram (no hdd or ssd and no os) for 1060 euro and I have a 500 euros discount that expires 31th august (it would cost me 560euros).
So I want to ask you what would you do if you were in my shoes? do you think that the new pascal laptops will come out before the end of august ? if I buy this one will it be upgradable? Also I try to configure every kind of gaming laptop and i found out that pc specialist sells always about 200euros cheap that the other resellers .. is there any particular reason? are the trustworthy ? -
Support.2@XOTIC PC Company Representative
No official word available yet on release date, but it will come down to how long you can wait. The new gen will be very significant improvement if the numbers posted around here are to be believed, so if it were me I'd stick it out for the new models. If not, what you have configured should be able to handle just about anything you want to do with it.Ionising_Radiation likes this. -
i would say stick it out for the pascal release, but if you can get it with a 500 euro discount that's a freaking steal and i would definately go for it.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It's a huge discount and at that price I would pick it up. It should be worth more just be re-selling.

I finally ordered mine, I can't wait for the next one even though I want to.
So excited, be this is my first gaming laptop.
Anyway is there anyway I can get a custom lid or skin for the p640re?
I've been googling but informations on such things on p640 is pretty scarce. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Where abouts in the world are you?
-

Some resellers offer their own skins/wraps. Otherwise you'll have to go through a third party shop that does specialty work like that, and they probably won't advertise anything specifically for any Clevo, though they should be able to customize the cosmetics for you. -
I'm in Australia
Apparently the skin provided by my reseller (Metabox) are only limited to carbon texture.
I'll probably ask some custom sticker store if they can specifically make one for the clevo form factor -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Make sure they require precise dimensions, unless it fits exactly it usually does not look very good.Prototime likes this. -
I'll make sure of that, and I'll report back once I got my hands on this machine. I can't wait to work and play games with it! Had been playing games on mac will surely change alot once I play on this thing!

It should be a very nice step up

It's official - the new Clevos with Pascal GPUs are now on sale! https://www.sagernotebook.com/GEFORCE-GTX-10-SERIES/
Unfortunately, no new 14" Clevo has been announced.
No surprise that
@Prema is correct and we'll have to wait a while longer for a successor to the P640RE/RF. The only 14" laptop with a Pascal GPU on the market thus far is the
MSI GS43VR Phantom Pro; it has a GTX 1060, which is undoubtedly what the eventual 14" Clevo successor will get too.
-
Eagerly awaiting a 640 successor. Very little stock at very few places now. Either I'll have more sellers to choose from with new stock, or maybe it'll drive prices down slightly on what little existing 640RE stock can be had (could I be so fortunate?).
I know most folks here are all over the GPU angle, but I just want a hoss of a quad core processor, 32 or 64 RAM, 1080 screen on the laptop itself, multiple display output that can drive a pair of modest 1920x1200 monitors via hdmi or mdp. I just need a new programming rig capable of running Visual Studio, Eclipse, VMs or phone/tablet emulators and such and if possible in a chassis smaller than the big desktop replacement models.
My dream 640 I think would be the 640RE with 6700HQ or K, 64GB RAM, NO discrete GPU, but some kind of Iris Pro graphics to keep the price down even lower. Surely Iris Pro would generate less heat than the current 970M and allow for moar RAM like the 650s have.
No ultrabooks are powerful enough with their dual core crap, no machines with big quad cores and lots of ram without discrete graphics (which makes the 14 inch form factor a challenge, I suppose).
Oh well, I realize I am not the target market, and very little demand like mine, so unlikely to ever happen. I hope the new 640s come out soon though, as my aging Dell 14 inch is way past it's prime, and was hamstrung with a dual core proc even when it was new. -
New 14 incher clevos will come with nvidia's next GPUs wave, best bet it'll have a 1050ti
