Speaking as a software developer and data analyst, these are also my dream specs. Plus a bigger battery. But the P640RE/F is near perfect. My main annoyance is with the lid -- it can't be opened more than about 135°.

Same ****, bro's. I need lots of RAM for my work and a compact size laptop but nothing suitable on the market except 640RE. I dont need the Nvidia GPU so to lower the temperature and to prolong the battery life I have to use the buggy software (bbswitch) which sometimes freezes the system. I've got the beta version of BIOS mod from Prema but disabling the GPU does not work yet.
My dream is 13.3-14.1 inch laptop with 32 or more GB RAM, single Intel GPU, matte screen, backlit keyboard, and separated touchpad buttons (not on the touch surface as on those hipster ultrabooks). If you happen to find something like this - ping me :)

@Meaker@Sager I really don't like harassing folks for news, and I apologize for asking... but is there any light, at all, that can be shed on whether Clevo is planning on releasing 14" laptop with a Pascal GPU? The MSI GS43VR is out, we know Razer is coming out with a 14" refresh soon, and then there's a 13.9" Aurous... but everyone on these forums has convinced me that Clevo is the brand to beat, and I have been very impressed with what I've seen from them, so I may hold out a little while longer if a new 14" Clevo is incoming relatively soon. Otherwise, I may have to pick up the GS43VR. Thanks for anything you might be able to share.

As far as some speculation goes, I guess we'll get a 1050/1050ti on a p640re replacement, take it with a pinch of salt though

Ditto. I wanted to try both gs40 and p640re. Went to buy a cheap gs40 nearly new that went. Then bought a p640re and cancelled the order (besides it would of been the 3rd time I owned a 970m so that helped to say no as well as no hdmi 2.0)
I've always wanted to get a blade 14 and aorus x3 but they have been way to pricey.
I'll see what their prices will be soon.
For now, fortunately the laptops are not on sale here. St least not from what I've seen. So I ain't gotta make that decision yet to bite the bullet
Rather you than me, I need that extra time to think lol

Already got mine, has been using it for the last three days. Only problem is battery life, mine especially low.

I've been reading review and people reported for at least around 2 hours on normal non gaming use such as browsing, movie watching and such.

I've used the laptop in a 2 hour lecture today, using it for browsing, and taking notes using evernote, it barely last 1.5 hour, this is using 40% brightness and the battery saving feature, power saving mode and in the airplane mode as well.

As far as I'm concerned I've installed all driver. Did I miss anything?

dont know with other owner, but mine, the battery life is good enough. 2,5 hour multitasking work of graphic software, 3,5 hour watching movie, and 7 hour idle (when I was calibrating my battery).
my problem now is, the fan recently make a disturbing sound, seems like there is something stuck on it, but theres nothing

How many slots for SSDs are there in this machine? I'm not talking mSATA, simply a standard SanDisk SSD

I think there's something wrong with mine, last night I made my laptop to hibernate, within 6 hours of hibernating it eats up 70% of the battery.

and, is optimus should have handled the switching between gtx and intel gpu? or is there something that I miss?

there very well could be something wrong with your notebook. have you tried reinstalling windows? also, in regards to battery life, it does vary. im not running stock firmware, so that makes a huge difference. unless your actually using the NVGPU you should try disabling it through nvcpl and see what that does for batt life. also double check control center and see if its sent for performance, entertainment, or powersafe mode.

do you think this could be hardware problem? I've yet to reinstall my windows since I have not got the time yet, but I did reinstall all the drivers and I tried disabling the NVGPU through NVCPL but it does not make any difference, it almost seems like that my notebook does not recognize the change at all. I did use the battery saving mode on both the Control center, the windows battery options and the intel control panel as well.

I've emailed the distributor as well, but if I could fix this with out sending the computer in would be better, since I don't have another computer and my courses demands computer :(

edit: what custom firmware do you use? what makes it better for you? I'm eager to try as long as it can increase my battery life.

Hi everyone, just got my Clevo (metabox) 640 and am setting it up. I ordered it without HDD's and have just installed my M.2 SSD and a 1TB SATA 2.5". I am getting a little "bulging" around the HDD as I can't seem to quite flatten it out flush with the rest of the board. Has anyone else had success with this?

(As in; the case screws closed but there is a 1.5mm gap around the HDD as it is large. Would all 2.5: HDD's be the same thickness or is mine just too big??)

2.5" HDDs these days typically come with thicknesses of either 9.5mm or 7mm. I'm not sure what the P640RE supports, but given how tiny it is, I wouldn't be surprised if it's designed to hold only 7mm drives, and maybe you're trying to put in a 9.5mm drive and that's why it's bulging.

Just figured I'd replace my 9.5mm HDD with a 7mm, and it fits fine. The more you know.

Can you tell me how you did this? I see where I can set my integrated graphics to default in Nvidia control panel but I can't see where to disable it in there. Do you mean disable it in device settings? (General windows device settings?)

You could set the global to use IGP only, but that's normal optimus which pretty much turns the dGPU completely off (which is what he will have meant).

I've done that but after calibrating the battery with a full drain-charge cycle, and having brightness at lowest setting, changing the default global setting to integrated graphics and even disabling most of the background processes and hardware I don't use, I am only getting 1hr 20mins of battery life?? (According to my task bar battery status).

I have a Metabox (Clevo) P640, can anyone assist? What am I missing?

(1hr 20 mins while idling @ desktop, to clarify.)

Can someone give me the full brand of 8GB ram that comes standard with this laptop? I want 8GB more and want to be sure I match up the sticks.

Also, I bought this msata III SSD and I don't think it fits. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LNEWN98/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Or I simply cannot find where to put it, even after watching HTWingNut's video. It looks too big for the slot. Is that M.2 SATA which is smaller?

Check your ram using cpu-z to get specs and timings as ram can change depending on shop and date of order.

Yep. The P640RE has an M.2 slot. You'll either need to return that SSD to get the M.2 version, or buy an mSATA-to-M.2 adapter.

Why'd you cancel? It crushes everything I throw at it, and the screen is beautiful. Also nice form factor, plus a really nice keyboard. No complaints at all unless you plan on using it on battery most of the time. But, you wouldn't get a gaming laptop if that was the case.

I cancelled because I knew pascal was coming ALOT sooner than the November onwards people thought. And to top it I already had 2 previous laptops with a 970m. Paying top dollar for a 3rd time I could not agree with knowing that if that it will be refreshed shortly to upgrade it for more performance, I thought I'd just wait.
How's the voice changing software work on it? It's the reason why I want clevos refresh the most besides that I really liked its design and it will be the cheapest of all models.

The config I had at of specialist was around $1250. But then I'd have spent extra outside for 16gb ram and at least 512gb m.2 ssd pricing it at around $1600 (around £1200). I'm Hoping to spend if that on a 1060 version.
As tight as I am on a 1060. I'd go silly on a 1070 if they ever made it in a 14". Maybe not now but Volta refresh if it can handle the heat. I'd £300 more for xx70 over xx60 Volta just because the power gap between the both as it is. And it's not often I'm spoilt...unless I spoil myself

    We will typically see:

    1060s in 970M based machines
    1070s in 980M based machines
    1080s in 980 based machines

As they offer roughly equivalent power consumption.

I know lol. Won't happen this time around. So hopefully Volta delivers.
As for the 1070. As dull as the AW15 palmrest and touchpad area (why couldn't they go the sleek route with the touchpad like aorus, it currently looks dated, more so with the new thinness). It's the only 15" I can consider due to the omitted numpad. I can't think of any other 15" with equal gpu power that is designed like that.
I just don't get it. I thought those things was easy convenience for users that do a lot of office and spreadsheet stuff.
I'm not a keyboard gamer. But I can assume you guys use it right?

You will always have strata of GPU at different power levels as more efficient chips mean more headroom for the systems that can cool them.
