So, I don't know if any of you had this problem or not. But I got my p640re from Metabox a month ago and it got battery life problem. It turns out there's an incompatibility with the bios on the latest win 10 anniversary update.

If you found that your Metabox p640re battery life is really bad I'd suggest you to contact Metabox for further details for the fix. These guys are great, really good service even though it took them a while to answer to my email.

Out of curiosity what was the fix? A BIOS update? Driver update? Other?

It's a bios update, sorry I forgot to mention it before.

Btw, I'm curious of perma mod. Is it aimed towards power or efficiency or both? I was a mac user so I'm not familiar with all these mods, since we've been spoon fed by apple all these years. And since a bios update solved my problem now I'm curious to try modding my machine :)

with prema it is aimed at both. not only did i see my battery life double i also noticed my system became much more stable. one awesome thing about his bios is it has the option for Pstates, which is what affects your battery life. after enabling that i was able to double batt life and still be able to hit max proc performance on battery if needed (at obvious hit to battery) instead of being stuck at a max operating frequency of 1.6Ghz on batt. ive also noticed that it seems to run a bit faster with M.2 SSD's than the original stock bios.... not sure if thats just me or if its legit.

prema's bios has made the 640 exactly what it should have been in the first place, a freaking beast of a little mobile powerhouse.

I hope this isn't a stupid question but which bios do I pick on Prema's site. I can't seem to find one for the p640re

EDIT: I found the post at techinferno and sent prema a donation, here is to hoping :)

Is it just me but does anyone else think the audio output on the P640RE is just way too low? Even with headphones plugged in, max hardware/software volume, the volume is so low on these machines.

Am I missing something here? >_<

    3.5mm

What BIOS version do you have? Manufacturer upgraded mine to to 1.05.04 and I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it.

Also running Realtek driver version 6.0.1.7786

Could you verify your version numbers?

With my old laptop in its last leg, I bought an NP8640 off ebay. It's still on its way and I can't wait but in the meantime I'd like to ask if the following hard drives are compatible with the laptop if used at the same time:
    - Seagate 2TB Laptop HDD SATA 6Gb/s 128MB Cache 2.5-Inch Internal Hard Drive (ST2000LM007)
    AND
    - Crucial MX300 275GB M.2 (2280) Internal Solid State Drive - CT275MX300SSD4 OR Samsung 850 EVO - 250GB - M.2 SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-N5E250BW)

I think the HDD is compatible but I have no idea about the SSD.

Also, I've been seeing the past few pages people are asking for/praising Prema BIOS. What does it exactly do?

@osum - both your drives will be compatible. The Seagate one is 7 mm tall, so that's good.

Prema Mod is basically a BIOS modification of the stock BIOS and vBIOS enabling way more options than what you get with the stock BIOS, as well as enhanced overclocking support for the GPU.

@SRSR333: I got confused with the M.2's because I read somewhere that some are SATA and some are PCIE and they don't always work for all. And thank you for the Prema Mod explanation. I guess I won't need it since I don't plan to overclock. Thanks! :)

Happy to help. At any rate, the P640RE supports both SATA and PCIe (also called NVMe) M.2 SSDs, so that's not an issue.

Prema Mod also brings other functions to the table beside overclocking. it also includes things such as better power management options, enabling/disabling key functions that you wouldn't be able to do in the vanilla bios and also, from personal experience, it's more stable.

What do you mean afayk? Where you hear that? Cos that's a step backwards. Even a 1050 ti is not exactly an upgrade either. It's like a side grade if that.
If that's true. Then a sad moment for me. Kinda been holding out for something good from clevo in 14. AW13 is looking very possible right now. It be my 1st AW.

AFAIK = As far as I know; we worked it out in the pascal cards forum post.

If you consider that the p640rf, p640re's successor, had a 965m, the 1050 would be a small improvement, and "it should run cooler".

Also, I remember Prema saying that the 1060 didn't fit the p640re due to energy limitations, but don't quote me on that, I'll look for the post when I'm back home

The NP8640 finally arrived. It is, however, stuck in "Just a Moment..." in Windows 10. Contacted the seller, said I should format it myself. Hope it works.

EDIT: Works fine after the format. Yeah!

Hi, ive just joined the forum because im thinking of buying the clevo p640rf, i saw that with the p640re and prema bios you managed to double your batteri life, well but how much was it lasting before and after and under wich use?
My concern is that with the p640rf i will not get a decent battery life, almost all the reviews i saw talk of about 3 hours or less...
So i would like to ask if there are any users out there that can share theyr experience, that would be great!
Another thing is that i think there is not a prema bios for the p640rf...
Well hope you guys can help.
    Cheers!

ok, first off the RE model is going to give you a more powerful GPU, the RE model has the 970 whereas the RF has the 965, before i switched to prema i was averaging about 2.5 - 3 hours light usage, and this was even with the bios forcing the CPU to run at 1.65Ghz. (i believe this was fixed in later revisions in stock bios). after switching to prema i was able to change some settings (enabled P States) in the bios which allowed for better CPU power management (as low as 900 Mhz) while allowing scaling up to the stock speeds. after having done all this i can average about 5-6 hours with light web surfing, 4.5 hours on youtube, and 2-3 hours gaming.

regarding the RF and prema, i believe you are right. but it doesn't hurt to reach out to him and ask. :)

Thanks for the reply :) i chose the rf because the 965 will be enough for my needs and its also quite cheaper.
I want to maximaze the battery so the prema bios might help, i will try sending him a pm and hope he anserws.

Any thing about pascal and 14" clevo with 1060?
If it's 1050 ti and below. Without admitting to it. Would I be better off with an AW13 and 1060 or waiting it out for refresh of 640re?

It's not different, an NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) is what it is: You can NOT give any information to anyone, no matter how that information is given. Please let's not compromise Meaker, you all may "lose" some time/money, but he can lose his job and credibility.

Please respect that, at least, Meaker is kind enough as to reply "Sorry, cannot say anything" instead of simply ignoring

If the new Clevo comes out with a 1050 Ti (which is fairly likely, given the delay) - get the AW13 with the 1060.

    1050 Ti ≈ GTX 970M ≈ GTX 960.
    1060 ≈ GTX 980.

    Massive, two-fold difference there.

Exactly why I was trying to get that info. The card is way more important to me than the build. I'm really gutted I missed out on the p640re purely because I owned the p34w twice. Wasn't shelling out on a 970m for a 3rd time. Although I'm using a 960m now. My upgrade has to be much better than 970m since already been there.
Blade looks good now it's available but not at double the cost for what I'd like. (Qhd+ and 512 or 1tb ssd up to £2699 EXCLUDING vat charges)

    Hi all,
    I own the P641RE with 6820HK.

    I've found this: http://repo.palkeo.com/clevo-mirror/P64xRE/

    with

    System BIOS 1.05.10. 1.
    EC firmware 1.05.06.

    Are these the latest files?
Also, is there a Prema's modded version of these?

    Thanks a lot

I bought a barebones P641RE from RJ Tech in May and it has been working great but a couple of days ago it started doing this on first power on in the morning. Screen blanking, tearing and "sparkles". Driver upgrades / downgrades make no difference. Adult owned, almost no travel, sits on my counter most of the time.

It generally gets better after it warms up. I'm thinking bad connection. Thoughts?

Also, I can't currently get to RJ Tech's website to request service. Are they still in business? If they are out of business, where can I get warranty service?

    Thx!

    Same thing here - http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...40-owners-lounge.781512/page-90#post-10300226
3 months ago it was just little "sparkles" but now it got much worse - tearing and black screen same as yours. But it appears only on some degrees - try to lean the lid few centimeters further or lower.
Seems that it is the bad display cord. I have not contacted my reseller yet, have no time to record the video :D
I hope it is not difficult to change it myself because I've bought the laptop in another country and I don't want to send it there for warranty repair and wait for 1-2 months to get it back.

hmm possibly it's somehow related to Nvidia 970 and it may be the reason why Clevo removed P640RE from their website and why Clevo resellers sell P640RF's with Nvidia 965 instead of 970.

I'd agree to try the screen at different angles and see if the image keeps getting distorted, that would let you know if it is an issue with the cable if it only happens in specific positions. You could plug your computer in to an external monitor or TV and duplicate the image. If you get the same tearing and sparkles, then you can rule out the internal cable to the screen.

970m went end of life, with the 10 series coming out. It's possible that the 965m is still available for manufacturers to get, and why that is still available. Or maybe there was just a good amount of stock left over on those, if they weren't as popular as the 970m version. Could be a few reasons, and not specifically related to a series of defective 970m's.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll try an external monitor to see if I can narrow it down.

pat@XOTICPC: I wish I would have realized you were in Lincoln, I would have just ordered from you in May. Couple hours north in Yankton, SD

Keep us updated on what you find out.

Yeah, if you or anybody are ever near Lincoln, let me know. While we don't have a typical storefront, it's always nice to meet someone face to face. :)

Looks like the issue is confined to the internal display only and rotating the display can make it happen.

I likely need a new internal display cable then?
