Three in the UK, but this is getting a bit off topic now ;)

You can still get the two 7mm drives in there of course, there are 7mm hard drives but they are not able to hold as much.

the sim slot will be very nice if all the network providers not limit the speed after 6-8gb of tethering data.
    I'm living in England xD

With three it's SIM only (in my note 3) £18 a month for 600 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited data (20GB cap), I used 88GB total last month and have not had any issues.

I never use free wifi, I just set my phone as a mobile hotspot and connect the laptop.

Thanks! Got my 7mm and 9.5mm HDDs working fine.

Another question - I got a mSATA to m.2 adapter like this to use my old Samsung MZMDT 256GB drive on this. So far, it's not detecting in both m.2 slots, but I'll be heading to the shop to see if its a buggy adapter. This should theoretically work, right? Hoping its just a buggy adapter, would be a shame to have that old drive go to waste.

Theoretically? I would think so. But a $5 adapter makes it seem too good to be true? Maybe I'm skeptical. Let us know if you get it to work.

Hi guys, I currently have a problem that's making me panic. My 5-month old np8658, after the most recent nvidia driver update, is not booting. The screen stays pitch black (no backlight) when I press the power button, and the only indicators that go on are the two on the right and the one on the left. The keyboard backlight is on and I can hear the HDD noise. Any idea what's happening??

Well nothing happened when I plugged in the recovery drive. I also tried removing HDD, testing RAMs, and disconnecting battery and reinstalling it. No avail. Oh and whatever it's worth, it's happened a few times to me that when I woke my laptop up from sleep the screen would stay black and I had to shut it down pressing the power button and restart. Not sure if this problem could be related to what's happening right now.

Ok I made it page 47 but I don't think I can get through this whole thread so I hope you won't mind if I just ask --

I'm trying to choose between the Asus G751/752, or the Clevo 650RG. My baseline wants are a 980m and g sync 1080p IPS. I would prefer the 15.6" of the Clevo but I'm getting the impression that the Asus 751/752 has the best cooling/quiet fans of any 980m laptop on the market. In fact a great many say this is the best cooling ever on a laptop with the top available gpu. That's what makes me even look at the G751/752, I would not want a 17" otherwise.

So how does the Clevo 650RG handle the heat of that 980m? I've owned one Clevo, the tiny 13" W230 with a 765m. Solid machine, and it doesn't get too hot, but the fans are LOUD.

Also, how is the 650RG's keyboard? Especially on flex?

Finally - anyone know what the g sync refresh rate range is on the Clevo 650 chassis?

Get neither.. The P750/770DM are much better choice.. Desktop CPU+Removable GPU... It's upgradeable and has the the above 2 too..

I don't need/want the features of the P750DM so all I'd get for extra money is more weight, size, heat, and power consumption. Only upside would be the USB 3.1 type c and that would be purely theoretical since I own no USB 3.1 devices and am not likely to for a while.

But to take a step back I wonder if it even makes sense to pay $2k+ for a 980m laptop right now with GTX 1080/1070 just official and the mobile versions probably on the horizon. Maybe a $800 Dell with a 960m as a place holder makes the most sense. Just thinking out loud.

I agree as a general matter but we just had a die shrink on gpus for desktop, aren't we about to see a similar massive jump on mobile discrete gpus?

Has anyone found a workaround in using fingerprints to launch specific apps?

Also, can someone count the number of LEDs under their spacebar? Mine seems to be missing a few

Did you try disconnecting all HDD and SSD drives including the mSATA ones? Also have you tried resetting the CMOS? I had that same issue with a np8652 and I believe what happened was an issue with my mSATA SSD and my HDD.

This black screen from cold reboot has been happening to me too for the last few months and has not found any fix. Local Sager distributor tried reseating SSD and HDD but has not found anything unusual

But what good is a GPU that's not even announced on mobile if it's needed now?

It's perhaps not a time to rush into it if you don't need it right this moment.

Hey all; I've had my machine for a couple of weeks now. I notice that while the computer is idle, the fans will spin up, slow down, spin up, slow down, spin up and then shut off (about 1 second total time). This will repeat approximately every 20 seconds for a few minutes, then the fans will stay off for a while. The cycle will then repeat at another random time. Temps are sitting around 90°F while this occurs, ambient room temp is about 70°F. Any thoughts?

I do need one right now, I was just debating whether it makes sense to go high end. The new gpus have been announced (edit, "leaked" by an anonymous source), 970mx and 980mx, or something like that. Much less of a leap than on desktop side, possibly because Nvidia chose to use the new headroom for thermals rather than power. The debut of new architecture, i think, might be worth waiting a bit for. Past the debut, when we're getting into +10% performance, sure, no need to wait at that point.

Anyway I picked up the G751JT as a placeholder for now. 970m, 4820hq, 16gb ram, 1080p IPS g sync, 1tb hdd (yes, mechanical...) for $1169. Seemed like a stellar deal (I was about to pay about the same for a Dell with a 960m and of course no g sync), even though it's stupidly huge, and you wonder how a firm like Asus could decide to put the game record button where the ESC key usually is, and the ROG Game Center Launcher(TM) where the NUMLOCK key usually is. How does that happen? How many millions into R&D for that rig and no one said that's a bad idea? Just talking out loud again.

Anyone else's GPU fan not do its job on "Fan speed automatic"? (p650rg)

While playing games I need to blast fn+1 "Fan speed maximum" ALWAYS to get comfortable temps (and loud fans, but stable around 60-65'c)

On "Fan speed automatic" my GPU temps shoot way up to high 80's low 90'on s (While my CPU stays relatively OK, as the cpus fans seem to be doing their automatic job....)

-I've also noticed my external monitor flashes/flickers the whole monitor black for a split second, maybe once or twice a day... Something I notice even more is a horizontal pixel-sized line the width of the monitor flicker...this happens more than the whole screen flashing.

I just sent my machine in for an RMA for 2 dead pixels, definitely don't want to do that again... could it be the GPU? GPU Fan? Monitor? Cable?

    Thanks!

I've had my P650RG since Feb and have never seen my gpu hit those temps playing with maxxed settings @1080p with fans set on auto.. I also use a laptop cooler. Maybe your gpu heatsink is loose or making poor contact.

advised shop, said it was normal for this model and GPU to reach those temps... not convinced, I believe its a EC firmware problem.

Uploaded an image show the GPU fan RPM's when on fn+1 "Automatic fan speed"

thoughts? suggestions? I just know somethings not right here.....

What workload was the card under? The GPU will turbo up to fairly high clocks given the thermal headroom.

Hey guys I'm having a hard time finding any reviews on the Samsung Matte 4K G-Sync screen currently offered. HTWingnut has a review of the Glossy version and he really liked it. Unfortunately it is no longer offered. I'm hesitant to pull the trigger because I generally prefer glossy and it would have to be a damn good matte display to win me over. Any thoughts from the folks who own it? Thanks.

Sager sent me this model number LTN156FL02-L01 but Panelook.com shows it as Glossy so I'm confused...

    @Nintendam

If you think it's an EC issue, you may ask your reseller to provide you with original file and refresh it clean, that way you can be sure about it.

XTU makes low level changes that seem to impact the monitoring/control in some way.
