More to add from before: I think the GPUs in these laptops may have two BIOS modules, since vBIOS mods flashed in MSHYBRID mode have no effect on DISCRETE mode, and vice versa. Either that or there are duplicate entries on the BIOS for each mode, though I have a feeling it's the former, since there are problems with flashing a BIOS saved from one mode into the other mode.
Also again, anyone here who has the P650RE 3GB GPU, would you please be able to send me a copy of your GPU bios from discrete mode, I'd be immensely grateful, as I can't boot my laptop with the dGPU anymore. If you'd like to help but don't know how, message me and I'll walk you through saving it, it's quite a simple process.
Thanks![]()

With the help of @Hawntah, I was able to fix my vBIOS, and confirm that there are two BIOSes that the card uses - one UEFI certified one that the laptop can boot with (DISCRETE mode) and one non-certified version that cannot boot the computer (MSHYBRID mode).
If this can be useful to anyone, for the love of all that is good in the world, don't make a backup of the non-UEFI one and flash that to the UEFI one! It's possible to fix it, but very painfully. -

The world of BIOS flashing can be murky, it's always best to be as educated and sure as possible if you intend to dive in. Having a clip on programmer and the help of someone in the know is also very handy
-
There's no mention online of the GPU having two separate BIOSes, and with that only one of which is UEFI signed, so I learned that the hard way!
-
It was an enlightening venture in any case

Just thought of this.
If I have a P650RG with an i7 6700hq and GTX 980m. And I run a NVME/PCIE SSD (Samsung 950 Pro) I assume that the SSD is going to use 4 PCIE lanes. Is my GPU going to run in x8 mode?
Edit: I just read on another forum that these GPU's are x8, not x16. Anyone know if this is true?Last edited: Jun 14, 2016 -

Everything else including NVME SSDs (literally everything else) is served via the PCH over the DMI channel which is roughly equivalent to x4 PCIE 3.0.
The other possibility, is since the P870DM is an SLI chassis, it's electrically only capable of running x8/x8 to each MXM slot and doesn't have any smart switching common to desktop boards.
Thing is, even at x4 you don't start losing all that much (maybe 4-5%). Hence why EGPU works with what is effectively x4 bandwidth. That being said, most current reviews of the Razer Core (the only publicly available AFAIK) don't bench well because they're often comparing the ULV CPU (Blade stealth) or regular 6700HQ (Blade, XPS 15 etc) to a desktop i7-6700K system.Jedi1981, Prema and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -

In our single GPU machines the GPU is connected via a 16X connection.

New Clevo 1000s Geforce Models spotted.

Drooling for the new 650RP6. So far i can see individual colored Keyboard Backlight. Theyre talking about reworked fan and heatsinks, mobile CCC App, Hardware Gsync, new soundblaster mb5, more usb 3.1 and integrated fingerprint in touchpad.. but as far as i can see on the pictures the fingerprint is just in P750DM2 and P775DM2, so the other changes may not take effect in all laptops aswell.
Anyway, the 650re6 is off the table, waiting for the geforce 1070, a better screen (still 1080p) and maybe most (usb) ports on the left than right side. Love the colored keyboard backlight alrdy. Hope the price wont be to high at the start. Can anybody say smth about the price development for clevo? Do they start high and lower like others or do they stay nearly the same from start to finish? -
Hi guys, new owner of P650RE3-G here.
I just upgraded my laptop with 8GB of extra ram, and upon booting i find that the wireless card(AC-3165) is no longer detected in device manager. Of course it also doesn't show up in settings. I did not touch the card during the upgrade and I have no idea what caused the problem. I tried to unscrew the card and reinsert it but the screw is near impossible to unscrew. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? -

Hello!
I'm a new owner of a P651RE. I apologize in advance if this is not the thread for this laptop, but I couldn't find the thread for the 651, and moreover on the Clevo website I couldn't find any difference between these two laptops.
I have a couple of question.
The first is related to a strange behaviour which is happening since I had the laptop. 3 days ago, I couldn't start the PC. When started, I only had a black screen, fans at maximum speed and the Caps Lock, Num Lock and Scroll Lock leds blinking. After a minute or so, the laptop would turn off automatically. I tried 3 or 4 times, but I always had the same problem. I went to sleep, and the next day I had no problem at all. I installed Windows and Arch Linux and everything was fine. Today, I have the same problem. Does anyone know how to solve it? I can't even enter the BIOS
Second problem: maybe no one here is using Arch Linux, but even after a fresh install, when I try to turn it off the shutdown procedure gets stuck at "Reached Target Shutdown". Anyone has any hint? I tried what I found online, but with no success.
Third and last: I couldn't find the G-Sync options with the latest driver, and I read that it could be driver related. I downgraded to 365.10, and I still couldn't find them. I found out that I had to enable the discrete mode into the bios. Does the new driver works with G-Sync? Or I should keep the 365.10? I'll try for myself, but as of question 1 I can't boot it. And another question: I usually keep the PC plugged into the AC, but sometimes I'm on the train and I need the battery the longest I can. Should I disable the discrete mode when I'm not on AC to increase battery duration?
Thanks in advance to anyone! -
I have tried to: upgrade bios, format and reinstall, using different version of nvidia and intel drivers, changing between MSHybrid and Discrete, forcing laptop to use only nvidia card from nvidia control center, using a different hdmi cable and monitor. All unsuccessful.
Also Hibernation mode never works, it shutdown the pc, but sleep mode seems to work with me.
Has someone managed to solve this problem? -

Slight soldering issues can cause day to day intermittent boot behaviour.

If you run it off of the hybrid mode, it will help save battery life.

Hello, I hope I aint, opening up a new topic I just can't find any post related on this. I have a P650RG and I just recently bought Samsung 950 Pro 250 GB. I checked from Samsung Magician - the Read speed is like 2GBps + and Write speed 950 MBps which is what I was expecting. I'm totally cool with it. But my problem lies in the boot upon powering up the laptop. It takes like 35-50 seconds to fully boot the machine until windows. How can we optimize it? I already installed the samsung nvme drivers. I'm just upset because the boot speed is like my 250 GB 850 evo. Thank you for the help!

Do you have any other devices plugged in? Where does it take a long time to load in the boot?
-
Here are the time I tried to check upon powering up the machine.
1. Pressing the power button until the logo first appeared - 8 seconds (forgivable as I understand might take some time to fully power up the machine)
2. From appearance of clevo logo to Windows sign in appearead - 20 seconds
3. From appearance of windows sign in til all of the initial programs started - 27 seconds.
It feels like I am booting using my evo 850 previously.
Could it be a factor that upon checking in the temperature after booting up - the ssd's temp is roughly 62 degrees C.
I read somehwere that there's thermal throttling but I ain't too technical to understand such stuff. -

Do you have fast boot turned on in the BIOS? Have you adjusted the boot priority in BIOS as well to make sure the 850 Evo isn't actually ahead of the 950 pro? Can't remember off the top of my head right now, but is there an option in the BIOS to make sure the drive is set to NVMe/PCIe and not AHCI?
-
I don't have any fast boot option in UEFI.
Also, I cannot select which SSD to choose from as it is directly selecting from Windows Boot Manager.
The one with the option to choose AHCI/RAID is for SATA only. -
My 'FN + F4' command doesn't work to change the keyboard light brightness anymore, is there anyway to turn it on permanently? I'd rather have it on constantly rather than full stop not working.

Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing the control center app? Might be worth checking for an updated version of the program.

I am having similar problems to jheff21...I also installed a 950 pro but it is not being detected at all. I have updated the bios and downloaded the drivers but nothing gives. I also have a 128gb SSD and a 1tb 7200RPM drive installed too. Would any of these interfere with the 950?

Your links are broken by the way. I would advise a fresh install since the architecture of the SSD is different and it uses NVME.

I can see the images now, your IOPS are low suggesting things could be faster.

Does the performance optimisation area suggest anything? What are your boot options set to exactly?
-
Does anyone know where to download the latest audio drivers or what the latest version is? I'm having this problem in the last couple of days where my audio is sometimes a little low, and suddenly gets very loud randomly every now and then.
-
I cannot define the boot to simply select 950 pro because from the boot options, it only says Windows Boot Manager.
My BIOS/UEFI doesn't have any special boot option like Fast Boot, etc... -

As I thought I remembered, you can't run both PCI-E and SATA devices at the same time.

- Expand to MAX. two NGFF(M.2) SATA SSD or one PCIe Gen3 x4 SSD

Awesome. Thanks for the information!

The 1TB samsung PCI-E devices help expand the performance and capacity of this machine. The chipset does not support PCI-E raid anyway.
Two SATA devices can reach higher in capacity if you need it and wont be bad for speed though at 1GB/sec. -
Hmm... so I just ordered a NP8657 from Xotic PC with a Samsung 950 pro NVMe in M2 plus a Samsung 850 evo in the 2.5" bay... is this setup not going to work??

My local reseller (Aus - Metabox), has told me there is no Prema BIOS for the P650RG-G. Is this correct?
They were quite happy to use the Prema BIOS for the P870DM-G, but are currently sold out of the chassis.
In-fact, they're sold out of everything except for the P650RG. Must be carving up ASUS/MSi in Australia - both of which are ludicrously expensive over here. -

I think the modded bios for these models are not done yet by prema.
