P6xxRx Mods where ready late last year.
Usually the entire P-Series is covered by Prema Mod (v)BIOS)...

Yes, this would work. There could only be issues between the PCIe and Sata m.2 drives. A Sata 2.5 inch won't be affected by a PCIe drive at all.

Thanks for placing your order with us, if you need help with it at any time, just let me know!

Ah! That's what I thought but I got confused from the discussion (something that happens frequently). Thanks! Eagerly awaiting my new laptop to replace my ancient HP dv4t and so far Xotic has been awesome!!

It's to do with the electrical wiring of the M.2 slots so they can take either type (but not both as it has to be set one way or the other).

Hi guys, I've been considering buying one of these laptops with a 4K screen, and it seems like the Sharp LQ156D1JW04 panel is the best option. Has anyone had any personal experience with the Sharp panel and could elaborate more on it? On the Eurocom website, there also seems to be a glossy option (LQ156D1JX01B). Is the only difference between these two panels the coating used (matte vs glossy)?

I'm also slightly concerned about light bleed issues. As I understand it, light bleed at the corners is usually due to the bezel pinching too hard on the corners of the screen and causing a sort of "discoloration." Is there any aspect of light bleed that is panel-specific, as opposed to chassis-specific? Thanks.

does anyone know how to use the sound blaster app? I connected my headphone but it didn't work. An announcement showed up "the current selected audio device is disabled, not present, ...."

The only conflicts are between m.2 drives and it's set so you can't order a setup that won't work.

After considering the P640RE, I'm thinking now that the P650RG is the better bet, and I'm trying to scrounge together enough money to buy one. Trouble is, unless something changes I won't have the money for one for a couple more months. Does anyone know if this laptop will continue to be sold for a little while after laptops with Pascal cards become available? I'm worried that right when I'm able to finally buy a P650RG, it'll be obsolete and no longer be available for purchase. (If so, I may pull the trigger and buy something else now.)

It's a popular market segment. I dont expect the options in this area to dry up. As for exact availability I can't talk about new models.

Hello, I have a problem - I bricked my BIOS after attempting to update it.
Reason why I tried to update is to "probably" help in fixing my problem on why my Samsung 950 seems to be not working fast which I posted previously.
I checked with my seller Illegear Malaysia (which is a rebranded laptop of Clevo P650RG - and I am from Philippines by the way) and asked for any BIOS update.
They provided it to me but they told me incessantly on the risk of bricking the laptop if not done correctly and they are not responsible for it which I totally understand.
Since I cannot ship my laptop there so I had to do it myself.
The instructions were the following based from our conversation:

Make a USB bootable drive with Rufus
    with MS-DOS boot
Then use the usb pendrive to flash the computer, make sure the ac adapter is plugged in
After step 1 completed, unplug ac adapter about 30s and replug again
then flash step 2 and 3 without unplug the ac adapter
1 step missing will brick your computer
Please note ILLEGEAR doesn't responsible if you brick your system, we suggest you to send in for us to flash your BIOS

By the way, here is the link of the BIOS files: https://www.dropbox.com/s/671sb7l17tyiyty/P6x0SG_W10_BIOS.zip?dl=0

What they meant on step 1, 2 and 3 are .bat files that is in the BIOS files.

    I followed religiously the instructions.
So shortcut, I was able to boot in DOS and then run Step1.bat, after progress is completed, the system automatically shut down.
And so I unplugged the ac and timed 30 seconds and then replug.
And then when I tried to turn it on, that's where I know that something is wrong.
Nothing is going on with the screen and then the POWER indicator is just blinking.
Now I don't know what to do.

To give you an idea how it went with me on flashing, please see the youtube link: and start between 5:28 up to 5:58. It looked closely like that. So then I turned off my laptop. Removed the AC and then turned the system on again. Then the screen is just blank with the lights blinking.

Anybody could advice on this? Thank you.

Did they send you the Bios firmware for the older haswell model, P650SG? Since you state you have the P650RG, the newer skylake model.

Now that you mention it, yes it does seem like they sent for P6x0SG model based from the filename of the file in the dropbox link. I didn't notice that at all. :( what's the probable implication on this?

A BIOS from a different model would brick a system, it would not boot.

Ok I will try to contact Prema after my cousin who is an expert check on my stuff. THank you for the suggestion.

This sucks. I raised it to the reseller. They did not acknowledge their fault. They just asked me though to send in the laptop to them. :(
Thank you for your response anyway.

If they delivered you the file from a model with a different chipset and you used that to flash there can be no doubt that it would brick the system.

Yeah, which is so sad. When I told the reseller what happened, all they can ask is to send them the laptop for them to check. Now I have to find a courier to send it from Manila to Kuala Lumpur. Oh well. I have to hold my games for the meantime.

    Hi All ,

I'm about to get a P650RG (meaning its about to be shipped).

The reseller specified both GSync and Optimus would work together, but isn't so sure now. What I was initially informed was that games running the discrete GPU via optimus would be automatically G-synced. Could someone tell me if this correct or what the right implementation is?

Also, can someone share their experiences on overclocking with the 6820HK chip - is it stable at 4 Ghz in the P650RG? Is any additional cooling required?

Clocking is going to depend on the silicon lottery and the ambient temperature you live in.

Why the concern? If it is no longer available for purchase, it will only be because the old stock is cleared and a significantly better card is out. You can always go used if you really want that specific one.

Being forced to wait a few months can only benefit your purchase since if the exact model is still out the price will have dropped and if not then you get a better card.

Hi guys, im on the verge of buying the p650re6 and i have been lurking around on these forums for a while now. Right now my only question really is about the thermal paste. My retailer offers mx-4 tho someone told me that stuff pumps out real quick. Ive read that most people use ic diamond due to the heatsink applying little pressure and thus requiring a thicker paste. I was wondering how you guys exhibit this(is this model suitable for thin paste?) and what kind of paste you guys use.

Yeah. You are correct. I would use ICD if I had to use a standard paste. But prefer Liquid metal. Gelid Extreme and Grizzly Kryonaut is also good. I wouldn't use other brand than these listed.

My main reason to stay away from ic diamond is the huge amount of reports of surface abrasion/scratching etc. Im just too afraid to use that stuff.

Take your time on cleaning, and it will be fine. Gelid Extreme is also a good option if you do not want use ICD.

The surface scratches don't impact performance really but it does come down to how you take it off.

    Hi There ,

While I do understand that overclocking will depend on the CPU I get, I am more concerned with the thermal capabilities of the P650RG. Will it be able to cool the chip sufficiently even while overclocked? Or do we overclock in such a way that there is no additional heat generated (is this possible)?

It's not the P650RG, but my P650RE with a 970m easily hits +165MHz Core and +500MHz Memory OC topping out at around 74 degrees in the most demanding games (Dragon Age Inquisition, Tomb Raider), but sitting around 69 or 70 in almost all others. It helps that it's winter here as well, or else thermal throttling kicks in at 79 degrees.

You can overclock and undervolt to keep the heat output constant with the range you can do this again depends on the silicon lottery.

    Hi there!
I'm really close to be part of the Sager family and I'd need your help. I'll probably buy a NP8657S on Xotic with a few option:
    • Branding Options: 1 x Remove All Branding (SKU: SGR12274)
    • Display: 1 x 15.6” FHD 16:9 IPS LED-Backlit Display with Matte Finish w/ G-SYNC Technology (1920x1080) (SKU: SSC884)
    • Ram: 1 x 32GB DDR4 2400MHz [2x16GB] Dual Channel Memory [Save 50%] [Regular $150] (SKU: sgr2x8to2x162400p)
    • M.2 Slot 1: 1 x Remove M.2 SSD (SKU: SGR6759)
    • 2.5" Bay 1: 1 x Remove Hard Drive When You Select Any SSD (SKU: SGR12698)
I was wondering about the RAM. On the Clevo website it's written that this computer only support DDR4 up to 2133 MHz but the deal on Xotic is on the 2400 Mhz. Is that going to work perfectly?
    Thank you for you help!

I don't think we have seen any issues with the 2400, as far as I know. No problems in recommending it really, on a stability standpoint. If you have any questions that I can help with, just let me know!

    Thank you for your answer!
I was ordering the laptop on your website with the options you can see on my first message yesterday, but you're not offering the display option anymore...
I've emailed Eric F in the morning, asking him if you could deliver this laptop with these options. He answered me "yes". And at night the display option was removed.
Do you have an explanation for that? Because I've checked on Sager website and they keep offering this display on the NP8757S.
Thank you for you help! I hope you can help me again!

I haven't seen anybody offering a 120hz panel as an option, and I don't think I've seen anybody posting about a DYI upgrade. 120hz screens haven't been around much the last couple of years.

I'll check on that and make sure we are lined up with Sager's offerings. I know there have been some various models and parts on back order right now, I'm not sure if that is one of them offhand, but I'll follow up on this.

    Edit:

Looks like the IPS screen isn't available right now. I believe there are times that resellers like us are told about that when it looks like it is low quantity to remove an item, so that way pending orders still going to Sager don't oversell an item.

Ok, thank you for your answer.
I guess that's to bad for me. A few hours before I was able to make the order everything was ok.
I'm going to wait to see if this option comes back again on your website or buy directly form Sager.
    Thank you!

Yeah, I was hoping it was just an error of someone clicking the wrong box in our web system. Looks like the panel itself is getting phased out or maybe not coming back soonish. If it was just a short term back order it would normally still be available with an ETA listed on it, to let people know it might be a couple weeks for it to come back. In this case it was taken down without an ETA.

Yes I was hoping too! Thank you again or your quick answer.
IPS display with GSync seems to be a good thing to have so I'll make my order directly from Sager. I really wanted to do that with you Xotic sorry! My config had been in my cart for weeks but I waited too long I guess...

About the branding, it looks like it's easy to remove, isn't it? It seems to be a kind of sticker right?

I can completely understand that. If you do have questions, just let me know still.

Yeah, the branding is not too hard to remove. You could opt to remove branding on your order though.

Ok I guess I'm really not lucky with the NP8657S...
I went on Sager website and this laptop is removed from the 15" list.
Go back looking for the perfect fit for me! May be with you Xotic!

That notification just came down a little bit ago to take it down. It's unfortunate timing. But if you do have questions on models or anything else, this is the place to ask, and I'll still help out where I can as well.
