With external GPUs gaining momentum I can not see where the small fraction of people should be. These are actually the laptops that does need this port. This is the same thinking that killed Nokia and Polaroid... Seeing new markets should be the way forward! I do not need two Laptops. I want one with a fast CPU and long lasting battery that can be used with some kind of docking to make it Gaming/VR ready. And I know a lot of people that have the same dream. Maybe I dream too much?

    1. I believe the 750DM will handle heat a little better.
    2. 750DM has more CPU options and can be configured with either a 1060 or 0170. With changeable hardware configuration comes a thicker heavier system. You can't fit the MXM card in the 650, it's soldered in there.
    3. Better cooling would be correlated with longer component life all else being equal.
    4. I've not heard of that happening.

I am town between the Intel AC 8260 and the Qualcomm Atheros AC 1535. Does anyone have any experience with either? How was speed/consistency in crowded areas?

I would argue that it is losing steam now that desktop and mobile are within 10% parity.

The problem is not the speed. The Clevo/Sager laptops are really powerful but I would like to have a mobile system with a long battery runtime. And you do not get that with a desktop CPU. The P65x could have combined the best features of both worlds...

Question about my NP8658 with a 980m in it. Why is the throttle point 78c? I feel this is pretty low for a throttle point but any time I get to 78c, which is not real often, I do start to throttle. Did Sager/Clevo set this as a throttle point for these machines or something? I figure the chip itself could take a good amount more heat.

I have the 1525ac.. Which is the predecessor of the 1535ac and it's rock stable Wifi wise.. People complain that Killer isn't the best for Bluetooth however I've had some issues but it works now... I'm happy with Killer tbh..

The 8260 has been pretty good for me, each seems to get on best depending on the router you have.

I would not worry too much about it as they are easy and cheap to swap out if you have issues with one or want to upgrade later on.

I have a question. Can anyone tell me how to properly remove the heatsinks of the p650re6/p650rp6-g(both got same heatsinks) both gpu and cpu since i want to repaste the system myself when i get it. Ive been thinking of a suction cap or something to pull it properly at the die place since that could sticky. Im scared i would bent my heatpipes if i were to pull at those. Ive seen that i need to remove the cpu fan in order remove the heatsink. Do i just need to remove screw 5 and 6 at the sides of the fan? Also will all those metal bits come together as a whole as well?. Also when placing components/repasting is it nessecary i unplug the battery? I dont wanna screw the connector up.

How big is the difference between 1060 and 1070 (not much of a benchmark guy)? I'll be selling my NP8657 for the upgrade. Also, which reseller gives the lowest price? Bought mine from Powernotebooks but they are out of business already (heard they transferred)

Yes, I would like to buy with a GTX0170 please. Will that also come with 0.8GB vram?

    Raw performance
    GTX 1060 = 95% of GTX 980
    GTX 1070 = 90~95% of GTX 980 Ti

Always get 2x RAM modules vs. 1x RAM modules so that the RAM will run in dual channel mode.

Yup get 2 sticks... That way you get dual channel mode and better RAM performance and of course slightly better CPU performance... If you use the iGPU, you definitely will see an improvement!

Single channel often gets the job done if you are not using the iGPU and getting a single 16GB stick will hold more value and offer larger capacities in the future. It's not necessarily cut and dry for everyone.

are you using an external monitor?

I had the same fan problem, my GPU temps would go way up to 80-90c, but using only my laptop display the auto fan would control it better. Right now the only thing I can do is blast the fans on max which stinks, not ideal...!

did you find any solution? a better fan control?

Hi guys, got another problem. For maybe a month now, I have sticky keys in games which is very annoying. When I stop holding a WASD key I keep moving. I tried reinstalling the keyboard driver but it didn't change anything. Has anyone had this issue before and how do I fix it?

If your not using the igpu dual channels benefits are dubious at best. From what I've seen sli will benefit from it, but one dgpu has just about no impact from dual channel, single channel, or even clockspeed for in game fps.

Going from one DIMM and single channel to 2 identical 1600MHz DIMMs and dual channel, CPU performance was not increased to a noticeable level but iGPU performance almost doubled. With a 4K screen the iGPU is starving for memory bandwidth and with single channel RAM performance was horrible in Windows and browsers, and even certain old games that could easily ran at 4K resolution with the 970M but the iGPU just couldn't load the frames from the buffer quick enough and they were unplayable. Now with dual channel configuration everything runs flawlessly as it should.

Does anyone know how to watch an online 1080p movie smoothly? I mean it still feels like a little bit delayed and lag. I'm not sure I'm using the intel gpu or the 970m and how to switch between them

On Windows 10 with a 1080p display, even with the iGPU it shouldn't lag at all. If you have a 4k display and dual channel memory, it normally shouldn't lag but you can easily switch to the 970M for your preferred browser. To do that, you need to go to the NVIDIA Control Panel->Manage 3D settings and under Program settings, select your browser and then select the NVIDIA GPU as the preferred graphics processor.

I tried and it still appears to be a little bit lag or delayed, it's just like you are playing a game with 60fps then it drops to 20-30 for a second.
Furthermore, any suggestion to enable the sound blaster x-fi on sager 8657-s? Whenever I plug in my headset, it doesn't work

For the headphone jack to work properly, you need to have Clevo Control Center installed. Without it, the headphone jack doesn't come back to function after sleep and hibernate. There is an alternative fix that I have done by taking a couple of files from the CCC app responsible for waking up the headphone jack and making them run every time the PC wakes up but it's a bit complicated.

BTW, what browser do you use for videos? Have you tried anything else? I have found that Edge is the best when it comes to videos and is the least resource heavy browser I have tried so far.

As I mentioned before, the only time I had a ton of lag and stuttering when watching videos was when I had only one DIMM of ram installed on the PC and it was working on single channel. After adding one more DIMM all problems disappeared in my case but if you already have 2 RAM sticks installed then your issue is completely different than mine.

I'm using Chrome cuz Edge sometimes just doesn't work like keeps loading but nothing happens. For the sound blaster, whenever I plug in, there's a pop up announces that there's no device....something.
And do I need to install any driver to use the finger print reader correctly, or just set it up in Windows System?

Have you installed the Realtek drivers for your system? I think that even with the SB app installed, you still need Realtek drivers for everything to work correctly.

The fingerprint reader needs the driver to work correctly because as far as I remember, Windows doesn't supply a plug-and-play one for it. Latest one is here: http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/e-services/download/ftpout_download.asp?sno=7824&no=1

Check your cpu usage in task manager. This should in no way be a ram issue.

Sounds like it may be a background task causing that lag. DPC latency is maybe worth checking out too.

I've got the same issue - I was unable to fix it, and I believe it's a hardware issue - either a wearing of the switch beneath the keycap or something wedged in there. For me it only affects the "W" key, and it's a fairly consistent problem. I ended up remapping all my FPS keys to ESDF instead of WASD for movement, it takes some getting used to, but it was the only thing that worked for me :/
If you find a better solution, please let me know :)

Do any keys get stuck if you are on a typing program like Notepad? If not then you can probably rule out a hardware issue.

I've posted a question about this before, but it's really gotten pretty frustrating, so I was wondering if there was no other recourse. I have a NP-8657s, and I'm wondering if there is absolutely nothing that can be done to better control the fans. Their performance when trying to do anything decently intensive is absolutely abysmal. This includes things like GPU-assisted video rendering, or trying to play graphically-intensive games. Setting the fan speeds to auto in the control center, while sufficient in normal use, does just about nothing while the machine heats up. It's, at least audible, barely running harder at 79 degrees, the throttle point, then it is at, for example, 65. And that is baffling to me. It ought to be running at maximum, or decently close, when it gets that high, to try and prevent overheating/throttling. Instead, under settings that you would normally expect to be no issue, the machine throttles all the time. For example, I'm unable to even play the Witcher 2, a game that came out 5 and a half years ago, on high. Not that the components are unable to handle it. I can get 60 fps on ultra, but after a minute or 2, when the temperature gets up there, even on just high, it'll drop to 25~ fps.

Using the custom profile is absolutely useless, it doesn't seem to even use the fans whatsoever. Switching to maximum fans lets it run cool enough, it even actively drops the temps, at the obvious costs of sounding like a jet, and whatever life-span hits they may take. That's hardly a solution though, I don't need it to be at idle temps under load, just for the fans to kick up to a higher level, enough to keep it a decent amount under throttle point.

Is this just something that is supposed to be accepted/expected? That you've got all the hardware with sufficient specs to run/do the things you want, that you chose to get specifically because it was going to be decent enough for your needs, but that the limiting factor would be that the fans are set to be mostly useless? Not that they're insufficient, just that the built-in software isn't good enough to figure out how to best run them?

The last time I posted about this, sm2956 said he undervolted his CPU to give him more room to work with. While that's an option, just seems ridiculous that you would have to resort to gimping some of your hardware, just to compensate for poor fan logic.

    Hey All,

    I have a MSHYBRID Issue:

A bit back my computer could not get pack the Windows 7 welcome screen, I would have to force power off and try and get into safe mode (which would only get past windows welcome occasionally).

I noticed this 'issue' when I would boot up and it would default the display resolution to 800x600 every boot. This was after I moved apartments, could something have gotten jiggled?

I narrowed it down to MSHYBRID, as I switched it to DISCRETE in BIOS and works fine every boot now. I can't go back to hybrid though, in safe mode as well. Any way to see whats going on?

Have latest Clevo Control Center, and Intel HD Graphics Controller (if I click it, nothing happens, because its in discrete I believe).

    Any Suggestions?

I'm using IDM and it gives me very slow download and after a few minutes, server would forcibly close our connection and won't let me download any further

    Hi guys,

I recently purchased a 15.6" Defiance III laptop with GTX 1070 from PCSpecialist. As far as I'm aware it uses a Clevo P650 Chassis and I have been looking around for a good protective case or bag that would be a good fit.

I don't want to spend too much, so I'd definitely be interested in budget friendly recommendations. I'd like something that has a professional look and possibly some additional compartments for folders/charger/phone, without being overly bulky.

I found a few cheaper options from Samsonite like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product...sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1Q7CGJAU4U65V - seems like it could be a good fit. Any opinions?

    Thanks!
