Early 100 pages of both this and P65RS thread should have it. Will update in this post if I get time to sift through.

This is the detail of this problem I found in the "P65xRS(-G), P65xRP6(-G) / Sager NP8153(-S), NP8152(-S) Owner's Lounge**".
For me, "ACPI.sys starts to occupy 10~18% of CPU usage" when ever I use a second screen in DISCRETE mode. Haven't run into other problems He was talking about yet.

Wow, nasty. I haven't touched MSHYBRID. In DISCRETE mode my CPU looks fine.

So quick question looking via Xotic - the NP8156 and NP7850 (P650HP6-G vs P650HP3): they're basically the same setup save for HP3 having a less-upgradeable board and a different casing, or am I missing something else here? 6-G can have more ram, SSD/HDD, and ultimately a 1070 popped in instead of the 1060 while HP3 is stuck with the 1060, right? Mostly wondering about cooling between the two.

The NP7850 shares the chassis and ports/features (but with upgraded cooling) of the lower systems, the NP8156 has the higher end chassis with switchable optimus and more storage options.

Hmmm, though Sager site itself says that it does have the Optimus https://www.sagernotebook.com/Notebook-NP7850.html

It has optimus and no way of turning it off, hence the lack of optimus SWITCH.

When would I even want to though, per se? If it kicks in the geforce for all graphics intensive programs, and automatically off for desktop idle, I don't see a reason to need to force it once way or another.

Some small number of programs can have issues with optimus and it means the intel IGP controls the screen (so no display overclocking or G-sync/120hz options).

So there are some edge cases but most users won't miss it. Worth noting however.

My previous Clevo had mandatory hybrid graphics. It was reasonable new technology back in the day and I had a infinitude of problems with it.

Granted hybrid mode has come a long way, but I personally leave my system in discrete mode most of the time.

Other than that, at least in my box you have to choose between 120hz refresh rate or Hybrid Mode. So Discrete + 120hz all the way for me.

Sorry I haven't noticed that you have answered basically the same thing as me. Can I bother you again Meaker? Do you have further information about the ROOT cause of the CPU usage spike after plugging in an external monitor? I'm still curious about why I'm not affected. Is the BIOS bug related to Display Ports somehow? I'm running an external 144hz G-Sync display in discrete mode through HDMI 2.0 just fine. I have even completely uninstalled Intel drivers since I'm not using MSHYBRID mode at all.

Can't you configure optimus to run one way or the other per program? Or when plugged in?

There are ways to hint the program about what graphics card should be used. There is even a right menu option that allows you to select discrete mode... Still, some applications do not play well with it. Plus, the final output has to be done by the embedded graphics card and you have to manage your options through it. That's why you can get 120hz with G-SYNC even if your dedicated graphics card is more than enough for it. Don't get me wrong, the extra battery time is very welcome, but Optimus is far from perfect. Having the option to switch hybrid mode on and off is certainly better (however, it still requires a computer Restart and can be buggy). I don't even know if it is technically possible but the perfect situation from a customer point of view would be if we were able to fully switch between embedded and dedicated graphics card on the fly, plus individually select the card that outputs to each display. Optimus in non optimal.

Ahh, on the fly. So is it possible to force the geforce via restart and bios if say, you know you'll be plugged in and working for a while?

Sorry, guess I mixed two subjects here. With Optimus your embedded card is always on, it is hardwired to your display and there is no way to bypass it. There are ways to set rules and hint applications about what card should be used to do the heavy lifting, but rendering is always done by the embedded graphics card. The P650HS-G on the other hand has a tray icon that lets you switch between iGPU and dGPU, but it does require a restart.

Yes it has a MUX switch inside that actually routes the display lanes one way or the other at boot.

Optimus vs dedicated is a display wiring change.

Yo Meaker, sorry to nag but can you confirm if this bug has been fixed and, if not, what modes is it affecting? I've different behaviour than what was related by the OP with stock UEFI. Just wondering if it is somehow related with hybrid vs discrete mode or the output port / external monitor settings.

Some time ago we reported that bug to CLEVO, they fixed and provided us with updated CONTROL CENTER drivers.
We added them to our app, and it seems they can´t be found anywhere else, so basically CLEVO did not update the website... weird!

That is weird. Great you have it in your app. However I thought it had to do with Bios update and not control center.

I dont think BIOS version will have an impact on it.
CLEVO just sent me the controlcenter files, unless it is made for the latest BIOS, not sure.

So mystery solved. One of the first things that I've done, way before plugging an external monitor, was using Obisidian tools to update drivers and CCC. @FatMice, give it a try, it may fix your problem.

Thank you very much for your help.
I already tried CCC(5.0001.1.21) from Obisidian tools, and sadly the problem is still there.
I can use external monitor in MSHYBRID, but when in DISCRETE the "system" progress still take 16%~19% of CPU all the time.
Maybe it need both BIOS update and CCC update to be fixed.
And since I bought this notebook from a brand which is well-known as low price and poor technology support in my country, there is little chance they will ever update the BIOS.
    So i guess i am screwed... o_O

in case anyone is curious, here is some info of my notebook:
    Brand: Hasee
    Model:Z7-KP7S1(P655HP6)
    BIOS Version:1.05.01

Here´s a piece of advice for everyone with P6 models.
Some stores sold those units with .01 BIOS, this means your EC Firmware will still be named after the previous generation (RE/RS). If your store ever provides you with BIOS updates be very careful as some of the flash methods (windows for example) will fail since the EC target names mismatch.
I would recommend flashing those in DOS just to play it safe.

so this method (but with the correct BIOS for our machine) should work - right?
(Beware that the bios files posted there may be for a other clevo model... so ignore Step 1, 2 and 3 if you have other machine then Clevo P65xRS, and use your BIOS)

My machine is one with 1.05.01 too :-/

i think its safest to ask your reseller....

John you're awesome, and you are right, my EC was named P651RS too, even i had bought an P651HP6-G Model. I could flash my resellers BIOS just fine using the DOS method i had already posted above. Now i have the latest EC 1.05.03 and Bios 1.05.04. Thanks for the hint to not flash via Windows..... :-D

    No problem dude!
I just mentioned that because some resellers do not notice that and do not give proper flash instructions, i already seen that in two different units from forum members.

We had more clients bricking when flashing in DOS then when flashing in Windows.
    Why?
I have no idea.... lol bad luck i guess...

The amount of steps to flash it in DOS sometimes makes it too confusing for some clients, i can only guess, and the advantage of a windows flasher is that our support team can connect to the user unit using something like teamviewer and help the client along the process.

Now the ideal flasher would be a simple .exe for Windows that would add a efi boot on next reboot, this way you would execute the file in windows, it would reboot, boot from the new efi boot where a script to flash the bios would be triggered, then re-change the boot to boot into windows like before.
This is something i been wanting to do, not sure when will i have time for that.

Got my P650HP6-G the other day. Love it so far. My one complaint is the speakers sound noticeably tinny and anemic compared to my p750zm though they're both Onkyo.

Hey everyone, I'm about to get one of these from XMG, but I can't decide which panel to get.
    https://www.mysn.de/xmg-pro-gaming-laptops/xmg-p507-kbl
    There's a 120hz TN G-Sync and a 60hz IPS G-Sync. I'm doing graphical work on it, so I need a somehwat good color accuracy.
    Which one would you recommend?

I will be receiving my sager np8156 (P650HP6-G) in 10 days! I want to know where to get the latest drivers as I heard the sager and clevo websites aren't updated with the latest drivers, right now the OBSIDIAN TOOL download link is broken.

    Thanks in advace,

Then maybe the 120Hz refresh rate is not that valuable to you over the color accuracy of the IPS screen, especially if it also mean a somehow higher price tag.

Anybody here experience crashing with undervolt on hybrid mode only with the Eurocom Sky MX5 R3 - this has the 7700HQ and 1070 GTX. I believe its equivalent to the Sager 8157.

I had it on an undervolt of -130.9 and it was running stable on discrete but when I switched to hybrid it started crashing like crazy, despite lowering the undervolt.

Wondering if undervolting on hybrid mode is a no no or simply doesn't work.

I have a pretty similar unit, except I have the 6820hk, but other than that probably the same. It's Eurocom sky mx5 r2.

I have undervolted to -150 and tried both, but they both are very stable. -150 is pretty standard for these chips.

I'm curious, have you installed the windows creator update? Over at the p650rs-G thread, a few of us are experiencing some problems ever since the update.

    Ah okay.
I didn't install the creator update just yet... I do recall booking myself in to try to get it though. Might hold back though if you guys are seeing issues.

Just a quick question regarding your undervolt, did you use throttlestop and set CPU core, cache and intel GPU values all together? or just core and cache?

    Thanks

It could be completely different for you, perhaps even fix your problem, who knows!

Yeah, so I'm using TS but using the Obsidian Tool. If you're not sure what that is take a look in the Clevo and Sager main page, there should be a thread about it. And yeah, both my core and cache are set to -150, I actually have not undervolted the GPU.

Also, if you have Intel XTU installed, you may have to do an NVRAM reset. Basically read that thread, and see if anything there applies to you. There's alot of stuff that XTU messes with apparently. So definitely check it out to see if there are some other stuff you can do that might fix it!

The intel GPU should be undervolted and benchmarked separately. As for stability on hybrid, it is possible. I was using mainly discrete and undervolted to -120mV without any issues. When I updated my bios, I decided to stick with hybrid (cz gpu fan is annoying while working/browsing) and bios undervolting instead of throttlestop. I had a couple of BSOD before lowering it to -100mV.

I never gave it a second thought but it is possible that hybrid might need a higher voltage. I could be wrong and it was because of changes caused by the BIOS update or not enough testing with the 5 min benchmarks :p. Oh well only thing I care about is gaming at sub 70C .

There is a CPU tuning utility shipped with Clevo Control Center (Clevo calls it XTU). That is the issue not XTU from intel's website! When you use XTU from intel's website (or throttlestop?) along with Clevo Control Center, things get messy.

What you need to do is install Clevo Control Center without the CPU tuning utility! This can be simply done by changing 1 value in oem.ini located in the CCC installation folder (check image below) before installing. Obsidian Tool does this step for you so you don't have to remember to change it every time you get a new CCC.

It is really annoying that Clevo names things from other companies. You have this and you have MSHYBRID (short of Microsoft Hybrid Graphics Mode according to Clevo), yet when you make a google search for that term, there is no mention of that on anything non-Clevo related. I highly doubt Microsoft gave an exclusive name for Clevo to use. It really makes me wonder why Microsoft haven't sued them.
