The blackscreen would be followed by a quick recovery, so only the software is crashing? I took a screenshot of the temperatures just after the screen recovered
    [IMG]
I cant view crash dump erros since the OS didnt crash?

Mostly your gpu is going bad from heat repaste it asap with gelid extreme or kryonaut and stress test if you still get black screen then its a dying gpu.

Yeah. I guess so. Your temps in the screenshot are cool. Check windows event viewer (control panel> administrative tools > view event logs). It records all errors with a time stamp. Check the sequence of administrative events/win logs preceeding the crash and after.

Yes! It did show 'nvlddmkm stopped responding and has recovered' everytime the crash was encountered, I tried looking that up, but though it still doesn't seem to work

Just quick question, how long do you guys have to press the power button to turn the laptop on?

Mine needs a long press and hold to turn the laptop on compared to my Acer which is a simple press and release.

Yeah long press. I thought the button was broken the first day or 2 I used the notebook. I have never used any other electronic device with a power button that doesn't have a simple press and release functionality.

Maybe because our system while powered down has other functions (nvram reset, turn on usb charging, and the other fn + G) that's why it needs long press to differentiate and identify from simply turning it on.

Cheers guys. Just wanted to double check cos mine will be RMA'd on Monday for an issue with the motherboard.

One other question, mine had a LG panel as I can remember and was only able to overclock to like 62/63 Hz. Is this normal?

While on battery you will need to press slightly longer on the power button, but on AC power it should be a shorter press. It's for prevent accidentally power on while on battery.

But none of these functions have simple press. Almost every other laptop brand is able to have similar functions while having the on/off button simple press. It is probably to avoid accidentally pressing the button. It is just weird because the power button is in a safe place away from other buttons.

It's so it does not turn on in your bag and that sort of thing, it often takes longer on battery too.

Anyone run an HTC Vive or Oculus Rift from their NP8156/NP8157? I'm looking to upgrade to the NP8177 (the 17.3" versions of these laptops are NP8176 (GTX 1060) and NP8177 (GTX 1070)) soon but it only has a 1080p60hz display option available, and a GTX 1070 is completely overkill for 1080p60hz, so I might have to go for the NP8157.

Found a dude's hardware mod log for upgrading the NP8652 (basically a GTX 980M NP8177) to use an eDP interface which allows for basically any 17.3" eDP panel to work, but his came configured from the factory with an LVDS output on the board, which is limited to 1080p. Even though the board natively supports LVDS or eDP, it's configured one or the other out of the factory to save costs and you need to move a lot of microscopic components to get eDP. I have access to the tools to do what he did but I don't have his infinite patience or circuit diagnostic wisdom.

You might get better answers in their thread or the thread for the older models. Btw I heard the screen for this model is 75Hz and can be overclocked to 90Hz.

Finally I got my EVOC P650HS-G laptop, I won't talk a lot about cause simply no matter how much I said it won't be enough.
A real monster, an amazing laptop.
Thank you all for your help and encouraging me to buy one and so far it's the best decision I've made.

Hi, I have finally sold my P870DM...
I'm interested in P650HP6 with 120Hz 15'6 display G-Sync and GTX 1060. Is it a good combo? I hope that fans won't blow up my brain.
Does any 1 have real experience with 120Hz panel? Some say it's terrible... and I'm switching from best possible laptop display on the market :X so my eyes could possibly bleed and I might cry inside my soul. :D
    https://www.ceg-hardcorecustom.com/...ntel-kaby-lake-ddr4-nvidia-pascal-gtx-1060-vr

Or should I look at it's 17'3 brother with an IPS panel? I hope it's the LG 75Hz IPS...
    Does 17'3 has a subwoofer?

The 120hz are fast, but that´s it, quality wise it´s not the same as the IPS.
As for stock 1080p screen options, the best should probably be the 17" 75Hz, and yes that version also includes a subwoofer.
As for the 120hz, i would say that´s a screen only for hardcore gamers, 120hz + fast response time. But keep in mind that the stock 1080p will have better colors and better viewing angles.

So, the differences between versions are:

    1. 17'3 has subwoofer
    2. GTX 1070 versions (both 15'6 and 17'3) have ESS Sabre DAC on-board
    3. GTX 1070 versions are about 4mm thicker

I'm quite torn between 1070 and 1060. At the moment I'm almost not playing games at all... and if I'm playing... I'm playing: Diablo 3, World of Warcraft, World of Warships, Heroes of the Storm etc... where GTX 1060 can mostly perform 120fps without problems (if under, G-sync is here to carry).
But... also I'm listening aloot to music, and SABRE DAC would be pretty badass boost for headset. This would be a temporary laptop for a ~~year before catching P870 (or newer brother of it) with 6/8 core Intel CPU and Volta/Vega GPU's.

My brain is still calculating and I think 15'6 + 1060/7700 is best compromise...
Does 1060 version is louder than 1070? Since 1060 is thinner I'm worried about it...

I have the GTX 1070, 120hz version. To be honest, for Blizzard games the GTX 1060 will do just fine. I'm playing Starcraft II in Dynamic Super Resolution with everything maxed out and it can barely keep my graphics card busy. This a quiet enough machine for gaming laptop standards, certainly quieter than my previous Clevo Notebook. Kaby Lakes do produce a lot of heat but so far my box could handle it very well.
SABRE DAC is a nice extra - but it is no replacement for an external DAC.
I have no idea what is going to happen in ~1 year. Looks like AMD is finally back into business... Intel and Nvidia are also releasing stuff like there was no tomorrow (Release the Kraken!). I would be confident that I7 with 4 cores + GTX 1070 will be good enough to max out 1080p games for a while. Having said that, I'm quite curious about the whole 16 / 18 cores "enthusiast level" CPU scene and how it is going to affect gaming (and laptop gaming in particular).

    Thanks,
    Harid.

How do you rate 120Hz screen? And bleeding? Viewing angles are very terrible (when sitting ideal before screen there is no darkened corners etc?).

The 120hz G-SYNC screen is something that I didn't appreciate... Until I went back to a non G-SYNC monitor. Now I see tearing everywhere, don't know how I managed to play games without G-SYNC :). This is a TN panel, bleeding is probably not an issue on most modern TN variants. I can't see any darkened corners for this particular panel; I often engage in Pair Programming and can state that viewing angles are also pretty good. IPS panels on the other hand have vivid + more accurate colours. Colour Calibration helps a lot (buy yourself a Spyder5 if you want). I wouldn't buy this monitor if I was a professional designer, but for my gaming and programming needs it fis the bill just fine. @HTWingNut review may interest you: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/sager-np8157-clevo-p650hs-g-review-by-htwingnut.801138/

Obisidan Tools says 1.05.05. @Meaker@Sager, I guess that you can answer his question about BIOS updates better than I do.
By the way, mine is staying as 1.05.02 until Prema releases his stuff.

1.05.05 is the latest from CLEVO and the latest from OBSIDIAN-PC.
But you should keep the latest supported by your point of purchase, it´s their responsibility to keep the units updated.

Actually John, I have a question. Is there any point in updating the BIOS if you are not having stability issues? I mean, is Megatrends adding new relevant features to the BIOS or implementing something that will make the machines run better? I've heard about some vendors jumping in TeamViewer and providing amazing levels of customer support. Just curious to know if there is anything to gain from flashing an updated version of the BIOS besides having the latest and greatest version.

It´s hard to answer that, if CLEVO released a changelog it would be easy to tell you. Usually CLEVO releases updates with fixes or updated modules but they, unfortunately, do not always add a list of changes. We try to keep it at the same version, we do some changes like showing undervolt options in the BIOS menus even on 7700HQ CPUs, speedshift and fastboot options, and trying to make the BIOS show options that should matter for OSes like Linux, also making sure security options are available (BIOS/HDDS/ETC) since a lot of clients request those.

Any 1 overclocked 1060 and 1070? What core clocks (and +X Mhz) you can achieve averagely? I hope GPU can be nicely overclocked in this bga-turdbook :/ Mostly I'm interested in 1060 results.

It's true that after 80*c fans are spinning very loud (80% rpm etc)? New EC changed something?

Never had the need to overclock as the 1060 has managed to run all the games I threw at it at a steady 120fps at max settings... (one of it being Prey (2017)) :)

For such titles like DOOM, Shadow of War/Mordor, World of Warcraft: Legion and Shadow of War/Mordor it would be needed, same with B1 :p It's still "weak" GPU to be honest. But mostly I'm playing games where 1060 will be pretty sufficient and if 1060 is pretty overclockable if would be enough for me.

Could someone knowledgeable please explain the purpose and port of application for the "burr" and the "sabre dac" output?

Which ports do they affect? Are they configurable? Is there a specific software installed on sager laptops? Does using realtek and sound blaster affect anything with regards to burr and sabre..if yes how?

Will be thankful if some audiophile could explain..

The DAC is on the main headphone port and it works without software installed. It detects the resistance of the plugged in device and then can drive a larger range of headphones to their full potential. It takes the digital signal from the realtek chip and handles the analogue conversion to keep the result as clean as possible.

Thanks meaker! Do you know how good is the Sabre DAC in terms of sound clarity resolution etc. If external dac/amo is better in driving a good set of cans - is it better to use the "usb" or the "spdif" output for the dac? Would welcome reccomendations.

I received good offers on P650HP6-G (7700HQ, 1060) and P650&P651HS-G (7700HQ version and 7820HK version with GTX 1070 and ESS SABRE on-board). Everything with 120Hz TN Display.

As far as I think 7820HK will run a bit hotter and i won't use this performance any more im more looking towards 7700HQ + uV to save more € (and AA titles are mostly sitting on GPU anyway, in P870DM my 6700K was bored always around 20-40% usage and was about only 20-30% faster).
I'm torn between 1060 and 1070. 1060 has 2,5cm height and 1070 has 2,9cm height... But 1070 has ESS SABRE and I'm listening to music aloot, and because this notebook doesn't have powerful speakers like my P870DM had, and has no subwoofer I will have to use my headset > where ESS Sabre should shine.

Would you guys rather go with 1060 or 1070? Games I'm currently playing at won't benefit much from 1070, but price difference isn't high and I would have ESS Sabre.
If i would even know which version is more quiet... 1060 or 1070 it would might be a deal-changer for me.

I need it only for ~~ year in critical year and half. Later I want get back to 4K G-Sync screen and some Volta/Vega beast, probably with Ryzen (I hope there will be versions with Threadrippers).
Do you know anything or do you have possibility to ask someone to get info which version is quieter? Thinner 1060 or Thicker 1070 version? Both with same 7700HQ (and as far as I know both versions utilizes 2 heatpipes on CPU).

If you use V-sync at 60fps then the 1070 version will be quieter.

Going full pelt the 1070 will produce more noise.

    120Hz = 120fps, so I will never use 60fps limiter. More likely 75, but not 60.

So I'm basically interested in noise difference between:
    + 100% GPU load of 1060
    + 100% GPU load of 1070
Are these same fans (diameter, rpm etc)?

To be honest you get more noise difference on the CPU choice then on the GPU, there´s a noticeable diference beetween the 7700HQ and 7820HK.
For the GPU when running at 100% the fans will kick in, cooling system might be diferent on HP (1060) and HS (1070) but it´s not much, and fans seem the be the same (diameter and rpm should be similar).
It´s very hard to tell you if it´s noisy or not, because that depends on each user, sometimes two diferent clients will say two diferent things for the same unit...

Difference but which one would be quieter? I hope cheaper 7700HQ
Do you have any comparison P650XX vs P870DM1 and which one would be/is louder (DM2/3/KM have much louder/higher voltage fans).

I can't compare them on my own IRL so I have to relay on internet opinions so far. :/

I wish Sager would do that to their P650HS-G bios too...no UV options in the latest bios they sent me for my 770HQ :(

Am using XTU and TS, but would rather have it in the bios if possible.
