Hmm weird I never had that issue and mines practically new. Where did you buy it from? Try contacting your seller/reseller hopefully it's a driver issue and not a hardware one! Good luck fixing your issue!

Not meaning to be impatient. I first tried going through GenTech (my supplier), about a month ago, but no dice. They said Sager was having problems with file attachments. -

Is anyone getting high idle temps in Discrete mode? This is soo annoying, and it happens randomly.
One time I'll be watching youtube and twitch at the same time, and my machine will remain dead quiet. My GPU temps will stay around 40-45 degrees and therefore the ramps won't turn up.
I then turn off all my apps, and make my computer go idle where I don't do anything... Why on earth is my GPU turning up to 53 C? This makes the fans go way too loud and fast, especially for something that's doing nothing?
Does this make sense to anyone, I have no idea why it's happening. There are 3 programs used by the GPU, the winstoreapp.exe, microsoftphotos.exe, and video.ui.exe.
I've basically turned them off in the nvidia control panel.
I'm honestly at a loss for words.... For two days in discrete mode things were working perfectly, now the fans are just running high again and they're not even using anything.... Why is this machine so damn bipolar. -
Maybe installing some windows updates, or doing something that the OS does only when idle, not to take up processing power when you are using the pc.

So, the keyboard is faulty and I'm waiting for replacement... Should be tomorrow if everything go smooth. Meanwhile I'm using my old Gigabyte K7.

I'm quite impressed.
Under gaming (BF4 Multiplayer 64 players, everything Ultra, 120FPS limit in Rivatuner OFF so uncapped) temps are:
GPU: max 77*c on OC Fan Profile, 80*c on Auto
CPU: max 80*c on OC Fan Profile, 84*c on Auto
With FPS capped to 120 in RTSS or max fans temps would be much lower, I'm quite impressed. This pancake has quite powerful cooling (except CPU cooling, 3rd pipe would be awesome...). Might be loud, but still it's less annoying noise than P870DM1.
Overall... P870DM is almost twice thicker than this 15'6 pancake. But... damn...
120Hz display is gorgeous, I expected crap compared to 4K 17'3 AUO AHVA but... colors are fine, no grain effect, totally free of bleeding, very good viewing (I can say excellent) angles for a TN display. For first time I can't hate TN display. -

I have question... speakers are... very quiet i must say. On 100% power they are powerful as P870DM ones set at 20%... Is this driver issue or this model is equipped with such crappy speakers? Or messed options somewhere?
Currently all I managed to do is to set speakers type from Build-in to 2.0/2.1 and add +20dB... (in X-Fi). And turned off all effects (meanwhile in P870DM it helped aloot, here it's just corrupting quality).Last edited: Jul 4, 2017 -

The speakers on the P8xx series are in another league to be fair, they get a lot more space to play with.
-
To be honest I thought the speakers weren't bad! Was a bit better on my gs60. If the 15 inch model had a mini sub I think it would more then acceptable! Plus I use headphones cus fan noise anyways

For me, I would say that treble is good on the P650 speakers, but bass is a bit lacking
-
Would be wonderful if someone can come up with:
A way to cram in a subwoofer in there.
OR
Find another speaker set to replace the current, one with better bass coverageKnight666 likes this. -
Guys, I'm thinking about adding an M.2 SSD to my P670HS-G (which I'm pretty sure has the same storage slots as P650HS-G).
I already have a Samsung PM961 NVME in slot 1, and the 2.5" slots are also filled.
From what I've read here, it's still not clear if these models support this kind of configuration (1 NVME PCI-e 4x + 1 M.2 SSD). On one hand, we have the confirmation from a Clevo technical person that it's not possible, and on the other hand, there is a guy who posted on Youtube his setup with both SSDs mounted and working fine.
So, right now I'm torn, I could really use some additional fast storage but I'm afraid I'l spend a couple hundred pounds on something I can't use.
Any thoughts? -
IIrc you can only use 1 nvme ssd or 2 m.2 ssd.
-
Both are M.2, M.2 is the socket. What you are incorrectly referring to as M.2 is actually SATA. You can do one M.2 NVMe and one M.2 SATA with two normal SATA drives. Sure you could trust what Clevo said but considering there's video proof they are wrong take it with a grain of salt.
-
-
Yup forgot abt that, hence the "IIRC"

Looks like I was wrong about a newer version being available. I'm currently on 1.05.04RLS2. John@OBSIDIAN-PC referred last month to a 1.05.05 from Clevo, but support says mine is the latest. Does Sager not always move to Clevo's latest, or is it just a timing thing?Last edited: Jul 8, 2017 -
So far my GenTech experience is all good. Shopped around a bunch and they had the best pricing for what I wanted. Reaching them by phone (specifically Ken) was no problem, which I also really liked. I had a few questions to ask, plus needed to make a config change post-order, and all were addressed with quick/easy calls. My order, which wasn't a Rush, arrived promptly as well. The only "problem" was that my free T-shirt came in the wrong size... I can live with that
Summer's been way too busy and haven't gotten around to stressing the machine yet. Got their CLU option for the CPU/GPU, so I'll be curious to see what temps are like when I do.kmeck518 likes this. -

Got a P650HP6-G from Hidevolution a couple of months back. For the last month or so, about 1/3 of the time when I power it up after having turned it off, it'll show the Style Notes loading screen and then go blank and sit there without firing up Windows 10. Turning it off and on again will cause things to run normally after a quick disk check runs most of the time but I have had to do it twice in a row on occasion.
Any ideas? -

Questing for forum patrons:
I am choosing a Clevo based system for mobile video editing needs. I see that a system with 1060 differs from a 1070 by thickness, system with 1070 also supports CPU with 8Mb of cache, which I could put to good use. So, is the cooling system on the thicker laptop is different from a 1060 models, besides that one heat-pipe that I see on a screenshot. Are those cooling fans and radiators any different between the models?
Thanks very much for your time!Last edited: Jul 10, 2017 -

Is it possible to flash the obsidian BIOS on a XMG device?
There are the new 1.05.05... -

Our BIOS is not public, and you would be voiding your warranty... trust your re-seller to provide you with their BIOS. -
Hey there, don't mean to start anything, but at the same time I do since I want to make the best purchase I can.
P650hs-g from Obsidian vs P651hs-g (P507 2017) from XMG. Chassis is a bit different, although I don't know if it's only for aesthetics purposes. An order from Obsidian is slightly more expensive, but if it's worthy I'm all for paying a little extra for an actually superior end product. Otherwise same specs: 7700HQ, 120Hz display, 1060, 2x8GB@2400MHz, 250GB 960 Evo + 500GB@7200, no OS installed.
All-in-all Obsidian looks better for various reasons, my main concern is whether the 651 chassis is better than the 650 in terms of durability, thermals, etc, or if it's just an aesthetic difference. Thank you. -

Only aesthetic. 650 is brushed, 651 sandblasted

I have a few questions if anyone can help me with the answers please.
1. On page 49 in posts #418 to #485, it was discussed there were USB problems with this Clevo laptop and other Clevo models. Did this problem get an official fix? I saw that a modded Intel driver provided a partial fix. @John@OBSIDIAN-PC did you ever post a follow up for this problem? I couldn't for the life of me find it if it was in this thread.
2. There were some people complaining about the ISP and TN panels having weird color hues of yellow or blue for their screen. Would this just be bad calibration? I'm wanting to make sure that my decision between the default 60Hz ISP panel and the 120Hz TN panel will be a decision of preference and not have quality issues be too much of a factor. I also saw complaints about light bleeding for the ISP panel. I understand that light bleed is always going to be there and that tolerance for it is based on the person, but would the light bleed for this model be described as bad compared to other laptops?
3. Does CLU provide worthwhile benefits compared to IC Diamond? My apologies if it's a bit annoying to ask it since I've seen this talked to death in various threads. I've seen that CLU can be damaging to components especially to aluminium. Not too much of an issue to my understanding for this model since it uses copper heat pipes, but it's a little unnerving to have it if it doesn't provide much of a benefit.
4. I've heard that the 1070 caped at 60Hz is quieter than the 1060 at 60Hz. Has this been tested to any extent? I would imagine it would be a waste to have a 1070 and have it be caped at 60Hz, but I find it would be interesting to find out if this is true or not.Last edited: Jul 17, 2017 -

By ISP you mean IPS right? Most of current models have minimal bleed, almost none and nothing compared to what it was 1 year ago or before that.
I would never use CLU on this model, it´s just too hard to be 100% sure that there will be no spilling to the motherboard, ive seen too many cases of fried motherboards because of that. And also i have no difficulties in keeping the temperatures good with quality thermal paste.
I have no idea about the 4th question... -
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes, it really is for those who push right to the edge, otherwise IC diamond and the like will do the job almost as well.
-
Just curious, has anyone been experiencing poor performance (in particular, with 4K write operations) with PCIE NVME SSD devices or delays/pauses associated with various Windows events (such as UAC prompts, lock screens, etc.)? I made the following posts in the Clevo P670HP6 topic, but they've seemingly been overlooked (as I'm guessing the 17.3" models aren't as popular). The issues should still be applicable to this topic, however, as the motherboard is identical.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Are you in high performance power mode? Mobile chipsets do moderate bus speeds for lower power consumption.
-
I'm currently stuck debating between the 60 Hz IPS panel and the 120 Hz TN panel. I'll be carrying this laptop (either model) around with me almost everyday to college in my backpack. I've heard that the pinching of the IPS panel is the primary cause for it's light bleed. If I'm transporting the laptop around with me and it's getting squished, is it possible for the pinching to get worse?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
No, typically it's set however the chassis clips.
-
I'm using a custom power plan based on the balanced plan with PCIE power management disabled. However, even using the high performance power plan for testing, the results are the same. -
Got this laptop last week and I'm extremely pleased with it so far. The build has a 7820HK with a 1070.
I've been running some benchmarks and reading this thread about people repasting and so on, my reseller told me they use Kryonaut but the temps seem somewhat hot compared to what is being reported here, might be becuase 7820HK runs a bit hotter than the 7700HQ, but I'm not that well informed when it comes to laptop CPUs.
Anyway, this is what the temps look like after running unigine heaven for an hour and max fan speed (room temp. about 28ºC):
http://i.imgur.com/ribgfoi.png
The CPU seems to run extremely hot, so I don't know if running at that temperature regularly is safe or not, my desktop CPU OC'd to 4.5 barely breaks 60ºC on the same test.
So, are these temps okay for running on Kryonaut? if not, what should they be? -

Forgot to mention that the screenshot was taken after stopping the bench as you can see on the utilization tab. The temperatures sit steady within 1-2ºC of the Max when it was running for both the GPU and CPU.
-
jeanjackstyle Notebook Evangelist
If your room temps is about 28C, this is more than correct! Most of the temps posted here are with ambient around 20C
-
Those temps are good! Especially with that room temperature
-
That's good to hear! I went with the IPS model as I don't really play many action games and I rather have better colors/viewing angles, the screen doesn't have any backlight bleed as far as I can see.
Very satisfied with the machine.
Edit: Ran the test again with the AC on since it's summer and the room was quite hot last time, the results might be a bit skewed since the AC unit is right above the laptop, room temp should've been around 20ºC

Apparently with the latest BIOS, our laptops can now support intel optane....
I requested SAGER for their latest BIOS and Changelog, they mailed me a new bios and also stated this in ther mail:
Based on manufacturer information.
Upgrade BIOS microcode from 0x48 to 0x5E (solution of 6th/7th CPU got Hyper Threading issue)
Support Optane drive
