Yeah, these prices are quite low, but some places are now discounting the p650 (dubaro.de for example).
4x8gb might theoretically be better for redundancy if one fails. 2133-2400 difference is marginal if you don't plan on over clocking.
I'd go with option 3 (I ordered my P650 with 2x16), but you haven't specified what kind of workloads you'll be doing and whether you'll benefit from the extra 4gb

    I'm from Germany.
    Prices from this online shop
    https://www.dubaro.de/Gaming-Notebook/Gaming-Notebook-Clevo-P650::3231.html
All prices without HDD/SSD, because I already have mine.

Yeah, dubaro prices are crazy, probably the lowest out there. A user in the Clevo EU Resellers thread was asking for feedback on them, so please do share how it goes

Exactly! Prices from Dubaro = )

My must demanding tasks will be Lightroom and Photoshop.
For example, working with 100-120Megapixel panoram or single image with bunch of smart layers.
Now I have 16GB and sometimes its not enough for me.
But I don't think what 32vs36 gigs will be noticeable for me right now.

Probably, it was me few weeks ago)

The bolded part I do have to disagree with. Since the IGP uses RAM, if you're using an application that doesn't invoke the dGPU (in hybrid graphics mode) then there'll be a significant impact on graphics speed. You want the maximum "standard" RAM speed that the processor supports - that's DDR4-2400 for the 7th gen mobile processors. Then its up to you whether overclocking and spending increasingly larger marginal amounts on higher spec RAM is worth it.

Oh yes, absolutely, if you plan to use iGPU for any workloads you'd benefit from 2400.
I mostly work with panoramas in gis contexts, so wouldn't know your RAM footprint, but option 3 seems to be a good choice: see how it behaves with 32, and if you need more, you've got 2 slots

You mean iGPU. The dGPU uses its own dedicated memory (6GB for 1060 and 8GB 1070) but I am pretty sure it can use RAM if you need more memory. Dunno if you'll need that extra memory for lightroom and photoshop tho. I also remember that the intel hd 630 has 128mb dedicated memory.

No, you're misremembering. That was the Iris Pro graphics with the eDRAM module in prior generations. In this generation, Iris Plus 640 has 64 MB eDRAM and Iris Plus 650 has 128 MB eDRAM, but pretty much nothing being sold includes CPUs with those IGPs (click through to the listings then scroll to the bottom) - definitely nothing with a quad core CPU.

I am curious what is this for then?

    p1.png

because for my 1070 GPU it is the dedicated memory.

    Very interesting!
    Now I'm curios about 2666 RAM :D
It will cost about 20-25€ extra.
Does P650 supports 2666MHz RAM out the box without any tweaking?

Im planing to use this laptop for next 3-5 years, and I agree to spend little extra, but only if it will affect on real life performance, not just few more points in benchmarks.

That's an allocation of mainboard memory reserved for the IGP, versus the remainder for system RAM (which can be further shared with the IGP for storage of textures, etc.) -- see the bottommost note of the link ("By default, the Intel graphics driver will report 128 MB of fictitious Dedicated Video Memory for compatibility with applications that don’t correctly comprehend a fully unified memory architecture. See Dedicated Memory Reporting for more information."). In BIOSes that are detailed enough, you'll find that it's configurable as "iGPU Memory" or some such within a broad range -- my desktop goes from 32MB to 1GB.

Even the eDRAM in Iris Pro/Plus is not dedicated video memory -- it's a near-CPU, high speed eDRAM cache. It just happens to greatly increase graphics performance because that data and the program data are both going to system RAM that is eDRAM-cached.

Anything above DDR4-2400 is an overclock of the integrated memory controller. DDR4-2666 probably wouldn't be a problem, but as you go higher things get more touchy. Also, RAM speed doesn't affect processing performance nearly as much -- it's the IGP that is highly dependent upon memory speed because of the volume of data pushed around by the IGP. If you run in "DISCRETE" mode using only the Nvidia GPU, like I tend to do, RAM speed effects are very minor in comparison to CPU thermal limits.

hey guys, can you give me a hand sorting the audio side of my NP8157 from XPC?

i recently have gotten in the audiophile side of things and was getting ready to invest heavily in a DAC and AMP for my new headphones when i noticed my new laptop apparently has some of the better DAC chips inside it already.... my first set of mid-fi headphones i just picked up was the AKG K702's that i was trying to run with a fiio ek10 amp which simply wasn't up to the challenge...but when i plugged them into my 8157 they came to life and had good output, i noticed the clevo control center has this nifty little control that matches the impedance of your headphones, i don't know much but i thought that was cool....

here's my real questions, how should i have my audio settings on my computer to make most use of the audio files im using? i have a bunch of wav and flac files that i intend to use and am not sure what sampling and bit rate i should be going with in the windows config setting and what i can do between realtek and the soundblaster xfi 5mb software i have....

also this would be a huge help to me, can you guys suggest a good audio player that does a really good job of automatically organizing and deleting duplicates in my music library? this is my first time getting serious about my music since college and i have close to 20 years of audio files that go as far back as MIRC and Napster, lol..... so my tags are likely to be crap and since I'm pulling from a bunch of old HDD's i'm likely to have 3-4 copies of hundreds if not thousands of songs...lol.

just how good is the audio in this laptop? it seems like it it's pretty great but it still lives in my laptop.... so what can i compare my laptop to in SQ that's out there in the audio world after market? .... like is it better than a cheap DAC and amp? or is it actually pretty good and i shouldn't buy a DAC and AMP unless they are of good quality/ end game type stuff?

one last thing, i've been using this site to test my equipment
    http://www.audiocheck.net/soundtests_headphones.php

when i play thier audiophiles to check for aliasing i do hear a bunch of weird sounds when it should be quite, but that goes away when the tone comes in and the tone sounds clean and clear with nothing that i would call aliasing going on with it...is this just me? is there anything going on here i can fix? would having the wrong setting in my windows config mess with that?

also, in my windows config for my audio, it won't display a sample rate that i can't run will it? as it stands i have it set at 2 channel, 24 bit, 192....

what i am doing here? lol.... i'm sorry im this lost...i'll get there, i just need some help setting this up and i'll figure it out in the process.

It's designed to be pretty hands off in terms of setup so nothing is really needed to configure it.

    FYI the chips used:

    ES9018 + LM49720 + OPA1622

Finally got my P650. What is the recommended course of action apart from replacing CC with Obsidian Tools?
Also, I keep getting delayed shutdowns because of HotKey, Clevo's kb software I presume. Can it be removed? Will kb Fn keys still work? At the moment keyboard backlight shortcuts don't seem to work at all and Control Center crashes on start up
Upd: is brightness control supposed to be non functional?
Upd2: installing intel chipset drivers broke the touchpad, but only the mouse - gestures still work. Nice
Upd3: removing Synaptics and other HID drivers fixed it, but broke scrolling/gestures. Oh I missed Windows. Anyone know of a fix? Can I roll back chipset drivers?
Upd4: through a cycle of synaptics driver reinstalls the touchpad seems back in working order
Upd5: brightness controls are functional after a shutdown

What RAM brand would you guys recommend ?
My unit will come with an 8Gb 2400mhz kingston hyperx stick ; but I will probably upgrade for 16Gb at some point.

I think the maximum supported by the i7-6700HQ is 2133MHz so I'll likely end up selling the current stick and get a dual-channel kit.

As of now I noticed that Crucial RAM tends to be really cheap (135€ where other brands would cost 150-160). Is there any reason for it ?

Is there any specific model that you would recommend ?

(I'm not going to buy it right away but I will keep an eye on sales and price drops)

Only if you get the O/S pre-installed by them. If not, you would have to that on your own.

    +1

I get 4h45 while light browsing and text editing + listening to music, with quite low brightness.

It is a bit lower when watching movies.

I concur. I get about 3+ hours when watching movies. 4+ when doing light work as above. Brightness set to 0 is still plenty bright for normal use.

By the way, I am not sure how the brightness is regulated on my screen (AUO52ED 120 Hz) but when set to minimum value the screen flickers.

It does not do it on any other brightness setting, I am not sure if it is a defect of a typical PWM modulation issue, but I am not able to use the lowest setting. I do not care that much, but would be interested if anyone else with this 120Hz screen had the same problem.

Hi. I've recently bought the model Clevo P650HS-G w/ GTX 1070, in the beginning I had problem with the automatic updated drivers from windows for the Intel Wireless 8265 card. Now it is fixed after removing that ones and installing the official ones.
Besides, I'm checking from time to time in this site http://www.clevo.com/clevo_down.asp?lang=en if there are any updates. But BIOS drivers are not there. I don't know if I'd need to update it if it is already working. But, some days ago I disabled the control center from startup logon programs and the backlight from the keyboard feature stopped working. Is there any way of disabling it without losing any special feature? Sincerely, it is the only useful feature I use by now. I've already re-enabled it.

Has anyone tried installing/running Ubuntu 17 on this laptop? When try running the installation media after a few loading screens, my screen goes off and have to force shut down the computer. It happened with both Hybrid and Discrete modes.

If your seller actually purchased the 3 Year Warranty from Sager, then it will apply to you if it is still in effect.

You should contact [email protected], or call them at 800-741-2219 between 7:30 AM and 5:30 PM Monday through Friday to confirm your warranty status, and inquiring about the latest BIOS.

    ES9018 + LM49720 + OPA1622

    how are these configured?

like how is the amp and the dac's setup and are those the complete part numbers for the chips? so it's the es9018 and not the ES9019K2M?

thanks, that helps alot at the least as i can start searching from there.... as it stands this is the only information on the entirety of google for this, lol, so honestly, deeply, thank you!

Grabbed this laptop from System 76. It runs Ubuntu just fine... But installing it takes a couple of tricks due to the GPU implementation. System 76 also has a tweaked drivers package to get the TouchPad working properly

No need for calibration! I ordered mine from HIDEvolution with no calibration and the screen looks absolutely beautiful! I do recommend a paste upgrade though as this laptop tends to get a bit hot during long sessions of gaming. Or a laptop cooler they both work just as well. Good luck on your order and enjoy the laptop!

    Oh boy...
Bliss HQ is my preferred program for organization, tag, and art cleanup.

You will likely want to purchase the albums and snag the cds with a lossless audio code such as flac or very high bit rate mp3... And toss the lossy downloads.

Note that a lot of modern 'artists' recordings are compressed, noisy, and very unpleasant to listen to on nice gear.

I like the Objective headphone amp + ODAC (integrated Objective DAC with low jitter USB) for serious headphone use.... But the on board combo is really good for a laptop!

Foobar2000 and JRiver are both excellent players

    Check device manager, it's subtle.

Why don't you try it Donald? Go into device manager and press FN + F10 and look under the imaging devices?

Thank you..."Go into device manager and press FN + F10 and look under the imaging devices" gives a little better direction..."Check device manager, it's subtle." is a bit vague.

Even better would be...In Device Manager click the arrow next to Imaging devices. If the camera isn't there, press FN + F10 to be sure it is turned on. If after pressing FN + F10 it still doesn't appear under Imaging devices, contact your vendor's Technical Support for help getting the drivers, and to determine whether your camera has failed.

Donald, do you know what I do when I have a suggestion for another re-seller? I PM them and give them a heads up as a sign of professional courtesy rather than trying to publicly "correct" them in the fashion you are attempting here.

It's not cool and it's skirting forum rules.

Asking what is meant by something you post is an honest question...it is not throwing stones.

The original suggestion by @Ionising_Radiation was to be sure the camera was turned on by pressing FN + F10. Many people do not know the camera is turned on and off with these keystrokes. That is the most common 'fix' when no camera is the reported issue, and it almost always solves the issue. However @Sptz said nothing happens when they did that.

When you replied "Check device manager, it's subtle." I honestly had no idea what you meant by that, so I asked you.

Then, if I am reading your reply correctly, it came with a bit of a thrown stone in it, but while a bit better than your first answer, it still did not contain detailed help. So, I provided step by step details in an effort to be helpful.

I stand by my responses. When you post here, you should be prepared to stand by yours as well.
