That last time I saw a laptop webcam that needed a driver was like 8 years ago... now they are just detected and the driver automatically installed by Windows. With that said, just try pressing FN + F10 once and see if it works.
A good way to test this is:
1) Install Skype then sign in
2) From the main Skype Window, press Tools > Options
3) Go to Video settings, if you don't see anything in the webcam, toggle the webcam on/off again by pressing FN + F10
Let me know how it goes...

If your lid is set to "do nothing" then it wont wake the computer if you put it to sleep using another method. However if set to send the computer to sleep it can also wake the machine. -
So I purchased the obsidian tools license and used the throttlestop profile. However when gaming for just a few minutes with the undervolt active, it freezes and I have to force shutdown my laptop. I’m not too familiar with undervolting and I also haven't repasted yet but plan too soon with gelid. Anyone else have this issue and any solutions? Thank you!
-
My current undervolt is about -150mv -
It was set to -125. I tried -115 and it still happened. Going to try more when I get home. I tested with Mass Effect Andromeda. Def let me know how it goes and I will as well. Thank you.

I'm trying to find the right drivers for the nvidia and Intel graphics cards. I've lost the CD that came with the laptop, and the drivers on the nvidia, intel, and Sager website just give me "incorrect hardware" error message. I got the laptop from Gentech, should I contact them for the correct drivers? Is there anywhere I can find the right drivers?
Thanks. -
Just pulled the trigger and purchased the NP8157 from @GenTechPC, will provide updates on my purchase and the laptop itself in a separate thread.

You shouldn't have any issues normally. I've downloaded and used Intel and nVidia drivers directly off their website. Also if you're in hybrid mode make sure you install Intel drivers first.

When I first got the laptop, neither the Nvidia or Intel graphics were recognized in the device manager. Only after installing the correct nvidia driver did the gtx 1060 come up under display adapters. But the intel HD gfx doesn't show up still. -

What drivers have you got installed? Have you tried an older set if on the latest? Also check your power options.

Now after updating to the latest bios for my Sager np8157 when I open up a game. The framerate will fluctuate between 30 down to around 10 and then drop to 0..I've tried using the obsidian tools recommended Nvidia driver and the latest one. I’m not sure what the problem is. This is just when loading up the menus too. Can anyone help please?
-
Also the GPU temp in afterburner has been flipping back in forth between 0 and 50
-
Nevermind. I forgot to fully check the bios after updating it and it turns out it reset to MSHYBRID mode. Changing back to discrete and reinstalling Nvidia drivers fixed it. Still trying to find the best balance with throttlestop though. Any tips?

Anyone with a 1060 on this laptop, I'm getting 10048 on Firestrike (7700hq CPU) with latest NV drivers, highest I got was 10148 with some older version. Meanwhile I just saw a review that got 13000? How's that possible? What should be the expected score?
Thanks in advance -

Post the review? Are they talking GPU score?

Sorry I don't mean to blow up this thread but im just trying to make sure to be setup for the most longevity possible. With a -114mv undervolt applied to the CPU(7700hq) the temps I've been getting are approximately mid 70’s to low 80’s but with the GPU(1070) it's been almost always working it's way up to 90 and stays around there. Should I be concerned about long term damage or is this safe for few hour sessions of gaming? Would it be worth trying to set up the voltage curve in afterburner and also I haven’t repasted yet but is there anything else that could help lower temps aswell? Thank you.

Hey guys, I have a little problem with headphones noises on my XMG P507 (Clevo P651RP-6).
When I launch any "heavy" application (game, big software...) there is a high pitched noise that can be heard in the headphones (Sennheiser HD598), and it covers the game sounds a bit. It is hard to ignore and becomes a bit bothering after a few minutes.
The sound disapears when on desktop and is way quieter on light apps like web browsing. My headphones work fine on other deviced so I figured it is probably some system noise or stuff like that.
The noise does not happen when using the speakers. I don't have another pair of headphones to test if it is indeed a peoblem
Is it a known issue and is there any way to fix that ? I really need my computer for school work and an RMA would be a pain in the a** at the moment, especialy since the unit is brand new (less than 2 weeks old), so if I can avoid that it's better ^^
Would USB-headphones be a way to fix it ? I am planning to change them anyway (lacks bass, and open headphones are not good for use in public), but I'd prefer jack instead of USB so I can use it for my phone aswell (I'm looking at the HyperX Cloud Alpha mostly). Also I think using USB means it wont use the onboard XiFi-5 sound chip ?
Thanks for your help -
If you don't then the problem is more likely to be a faulty earth at your location. I've had similar issues multiple locations and laptops that have a poor electrical earthing which gives me a background humm.
On a side note, if it is as above, you need to call an electrician to check your wiring and earth at your place.

Sounds like cross talk of the GPU onto the sound line, not much can really be done about it except for an external sound card.

So it cannot be fixed ?
Damnit. That's a serious problem :/
RMA probably wont change anything unless they replace the motherboard as a whole too I guess. -

You could try doing a slight overclock or underclock on the gpu to see if maybe you can break the link.
-
Quick update, the troubleshooting ended up being faster than expected.
While looking for the overclocking option in the control center I missclicked on a preset, and went from "performance" to "entertainment". One of the things it changed was the headphones mode : from "game" to "music".
I then tried all headphones modes and they all work perfectly with no noise (tested PUBG in ultra settings to push the GPU load a bit), except the "game" mode which has that annoying sound.
Moral of the story : just like with most things, if it says "for game(r)s", avoid it, because it s ! cksgunemalli and Zoltan@zTecpc like this. -
Hello, I just bought a P650HP6-G to replace an old frankensteined IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad. It's supposed to show up Thursday.
My Thinkpad has a docking station that I set up with a PCIE eGPU so that I could play HD movies on my TV. It has USB ports and whatnot so I only had to plug the laptop into the docking station instead of having to plug in a mouse, network cable, and HDMI every time I want to use it.
Has anyone found a compatible device that I could use in a similar fashion?
Basically I am looking for some adapter that I can leave hooked up at my TV with my mouse, and HDMI plugged into it so I only have to connect one thing to the laptop.
I just finished reading through all 108 pages of this thread. Someone at some point asked about a USB-c dock. Noone answered here, but Meeker said it wouldn't wourk with the GPU in another thread. I don't really need it to work with the GPU, I only want to conveniently watch 1080p movies.Last edited: Oct 1, 2017 -

Hello,
The integrated web cam on my P650HP6-G isn't being detected. Anyone knows how to solve this?
Thanks,

. I don't see an Imaging devices tab in device manager.
The Fn + F10 camera enable/disable shortcut doesn't seem to be doing anything either.

Difficult to say. Quite often behavior like this can be caused by Anti-virus applications acting upon a file, or set of files by mistake. After the Anti-virus updates itself, the behavior changes. Windows updates can also cause what you saw, however you would normally have to manually roll back an update. Of course since you removed the device to force the driver reinstall it is now probably impossible to say for sure.

Is the onboard sound card powerful enough to drive the 80 Ohm Beyerdynamic DT770 (SPL 96dB) or will I need an amp for that ? I cant seem to find the specs of the X-Fi mb5 anywhere.
My budget isnt that high so with the headphones I can either get a Modmic or an amp (was thinking Fiio E10K, not sure if it's the best, but it is portable), and I'd like to get the mic first so I can finaly throw away my ****ty 10€ headset that sits around my neck everytime. -

Donald was very helpful in reigning back some of my splurges that didn't make sense, I think this build is pretty serious bang for the buck. Can't wait till it arrives, my old PowerPro has no battery life left, has some trim damage, and is having massive thermal throttling issues that probably require repasting, which I am not brave enough to do.Spartan@HIDevolution, dragon57 and Donald@Paladin44 like this. -

1- Uninstallation of all the Windows Store Garbage Apps
2- Removing all Windows 10 Privacy Invasion stuff like Telemetry, sending your keystrokes to Microsoft, automatically installing suggested apps in the background, allowing Microsoft to conduct experiments on your laptop, disabling automatic driver updates through Windows updates, disabling Windows 10 ads, disabling cortana, etc.
3- Removal of nVIDIA and Intel Telemetry
4- Adjusting a lot of options in PC Settings like disabling Windows Tablet Mode (you have a laptop not a tablet), disabling suggestions appearing in the start menu, disabling automatically connecting to Paid WiFi Hotspots, disabling Game DVR which reduced performance in games, and a lot more.
5- Replacing Cortana with a much better search tool that finds results instantly
6- Restoring the classic Windows 7 Calculator and Windows Photo Viewer
7- Restoring the Classic Windows 7 Start Menu
8- Turning off smart multi-homed DNS name resolution in Windows which may lead to DNS Leakage when using a VPN (must have Windows 10 Pro for disabling it as it can only be disabled via the Group Policy Editor)

Hey guys! I just want to say that after 5 months of use, this beast is really amazing. I did not expect such a good laptop!
Also, is it just me or is OBSIDIAN-TOOLS paid? I can't seem to use it anymore, so do any of you have any recommendations? (I have used the tool for driver updates ever since I started using this laptop)Donald@Paladin44 likes this. -
I'm thinking about going for this laptop but have a few questions hopefully someone can answer.
I haven't seen much talk of the 60hz ips screen. Is it good? I'm not one for fast paced games so would really rather a nice screen. I'm afraid the 1070 won't be able to handle most games at 1440p making the beautiful sharp panel worthless.
How is the keyboard? My main concern is the comfort of the right shift key being encroached on by the arrow keys. I don't often use the arrow keys but am a master's student and do a ridiculous amount of typing and programming so keyboard comfort is important.
How are noise and thermals? The notebookcheck review says it's really loue but I have heard from people on the forums it's not super loud and most of the noise is on the low end so it's not super intrusive. My other concern is thermals as I plan on undervolting the CPU and hopefully OC the 1070. I am fine with repasting or shimming if necessary (depending on others experiences) but what to know what to expect
6700hq vs 7700hq vs 6820hk
The eurocom store offers a hefty 10% discount for students so I will most likely buy from them because nowhere else can beat that price. They offer 6/7700hq and 6/7820hk options. Due to price I am only considering the 3 above. The 6700 is going to be $100 less and the other two are about equivalent in price. I planned on undervolting and have heard KL is worse for this. (Also should I consider waiting for 8-Series?)
Sorry to be a pain but thank you all. For your helpDonald@Paladin44 likes this. -
I don't know what games you plan on playing or if you plan to use an external screen ; but the 1070 seems overkill especialy for a 60hz screen.
I have been using the i7-6700HQ GTX1060 1080p IPS 60Hz non-Gsync variant for a month now.
-the screen is amazing, coming from a TN
-the keyboard feels really good, this is my first laptop and I'm coming from a mechanical keyboard but I adapted to it pretty quickly. Compared to the ones on other laptops I tried, this keyboard is confortable and offers good travel. I am a student myself and do a lot of programming, and it is a real pleasureto type on this unit (although I have an AZERTY keyboard, and am considering buying a separate QWERTY just for the additional confort when programming).
-Temps are really good. The unit does not get hot easily, cooling is great.
-It can indeed get loud when playing demanding games, but the "average" fan speed in games isnt too loud, and it is pretty much silent when doing light tasks.
As far as performance goes, my 1060 with "only" 8GB of RAM kills pretty much any game I play in ultra settings (PUBG ultra >40fps and this is not a well optimized game, GRW ultra ~60fps, COD WW2 Beta ultra ~60fps...). In most of my games I need to turn on VSync because the 1060 is allowing for insane amounts of fps that are just too much for the 60hz screen.
The 1060 can run anything in ultra 1080p, so I doubt the 1070 would have any problem with 1440p (in fact, DO NOT take a 1070 for 1080p gaming, unless you have a 120-144hz screen to play on. 1070 is worth it only for 1440p and above, or very demanding games with high refresh rates screens in 1080p).
As far as CPUs are concerned, from what I've seen from various reviews and tests, there is no difference between the 6700 and 7700. They have identical performances, the 6700 sometimes even outperforms the 7700, but the 7700 is probably more optimized thus better battery life (which is by the way really good for a "gaming" laptop, with MSHybrid on and doing normal tasks, I can get between 4h (videos) and 7h (text and programming) of battery life). Considering the 7700 often costs 100 $ more than the 6700, it is simply not worth it imo.
The HK cpu's are designed for overclocking iirc (I am rather new to hardware and stuff so I could be wrong), so again you probably do not need it, for the same reasons that you may not need the 1070, and because the price difference with the 6700 isnt really justified.Taylor Trottier and Donald@Paladin44 like this. -
