As you can see, with the increased power limit and locked voltage and frequency curve that my card doesn't bump up to its power limit again.

This in-turn leads to a better, more smoother frame rate delivery and frame times as shown by the MSI afterburner graphs.

This makes a HUGE difference especially in multiplayer games. I tried this on Shadow of War but the results weren't as drastic as the way WWII shows it. So am guessing difference in game engines and maybe single player vs multi-player makes a difference into how much it helps. Though it helped in shadow of war, the difference wasn't as blatant as the way WWII has shown. Like you notice the hitches/spikes and stutters are drastically reduced which leads to way better experience and better k/d lol, as the stutters don't get you killed except occasional network lag.

No not necessarily, you could still lock your frequency to a lower freq/voltage curve that doesn't bump up to the mobile 115w TDP power limit as much

Those throttle limits will spike as they are just 0/1 but if your clocks are only dropping 12/24mhz then it should not cause choppy performance.

Can someone point towards the latest BIOS update of the Sager NP8157 (Clevo P650HS-G) or compatible one that works with it? I would greatly appreciate it... can't seem to find anything concrete on it.

Thanks in advance! Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Hey guys - I've got a quick about the NP8157 and RAID/IRST Premium mode - has anyone else have problems even detecting an NVMe drive (a 960 Evo) under RAID/RST Mode when installing Windows10/WinServer 2k16? Before anyone asks - yes, I'm loading the Intel RAID driver from the install DVD(unrelated - is it just me, or it's a bit weird to supply a driver DVD for a system that doesn't have an optical drive :D ) and I'm not sure if it's relevant, but I've populated all possible storage slots on this bugger (1x960 Evo, 1x WD Blue 3D, 2x850 Evo 2.5'')

yes I agree, if your clocks aren't dropping by a large amount then it wont cause the choppy performance.

Mine was dropping by large amounts and variations which led to the choppy performance.

Thanks for the prompt response, but I managed to also e-mail to that same e-mail you were suggesting... someone responded, made me an account on Sager's website, placed the ticket... had one of the representatives by the name 'David Liu' transfer over my inquiry to another representative by the name 'Allen Zhang' about 2 days ago and have yet to get a response.

Also tried the Toll Free phone number and it just keeps ringing without anyone responding to my calls... hmm, don't know what's going on.

I want to get this addressed as soon as possible.

I'll try the other Telephone number you've given me, and see if I can get a hold of anyone. Thanks in advance. :)

Hardware incompatibilities with detecting Display Adapters such as the Nvidia GTX 1070 that comes pre-installed with the NP8157 due to updates, as well as some of the most recent Windows 10 updates. Most experts say that the BIOS is probably outdated... and since I bought this Laptop about a year ago... I wonder how old is the BIOS since its manufacturing.

That's why I need it. The Nvidia Display Adapter Driver was working fine until recent Windows Updates & Nividia updates... where the Nvidia card just randomly disconnects or refuses to be detected when coming back from sleep mode, just leaving you with a black screen... although running the laptop on MSHybrid settings instead of 'Discreet' doesn't suffer from the same symptoms, so I'm still able to work.

Most sources I've been finding is that the BIOS probably needs to be updated.

My current BIOS, according to the OBSIDIAN software I ended up downloading and paying the License fee to correct most of my issues and keep myself updated on this Sager (CLEVO Rebranded) model, it tells me that I'm on BIOS '1.05.05.RLS1' while the latest available one seems to be the '1.05.11' for the current model.

Would like to get a BIOS that's equivalent to that BIOS but of the Sager kind.

    That's basically it. Hahahaha.

Been waiting since Thursday and have yet to have someone from Sager provide me with a solution to this.

What version of the Nvidia driver are you on? Have you tried rolling back to an older version?

The Vbios (integrated into your system BIOS) should not need updating (for instance my Vbios is still original from shipping nearly a year and a half ago) in order to function OK on the latest software.

I was on the latest 490.77... then rolled back to the 488 version. Still have the same issues but less often... it's probably the newest Windows 10 update for this year that was just rolled out. But most people are saying that updating your BIOS to solve your hardware compatibility issues of this nature, when it comes to your Display Adapters not being detected... especially on Nvidia cards, should just be solved by updating the BIOS.

I would try to update my BIOS to the latest before I make any other conclusions. It's the one thing I've yet to upgrade, since it's obviously not available to the public in the open, which I find very troublesome... especially if you can't get a hold of tech support, unlike other manufacturers that have BIOS updates right on their site and/or their product listings under software/drivers.

We don't list them due to the number of people flashing their machines with the wrong version and bricking their systems. We have a lot of customisations on our machines and G-sync/non G-sync versions have to have specific files.

Other manufacturers give you what you get and that's it which does make support easier.

Feel free to call on Monday with your ticket reference and they can let you know any details.

Monday? Ridiculous. I've been trying to get support since Thursday which is completely within working business days and had no help from Tech support.

BIOS updates should be listed within the product listings where you find the rest of the drivers & details of your specific model... don't think that's confusing at all for anyone looking to solve their issues within a timely manner. This is just making it hard for the sake of making it hard for the end-user. It should be the customer's responsibility to take such a risk, in the case if the software/BIOS is intended to work & has been fully tested to work.

Decided to go for a gaming laptop at last, did a bit of research and came to the conclusion that the Sager NP8157 was the right computer for me... I'm not very pleased with the customer support I've gotten from Sager... not very good first impressions if you ask me.

Don't mean any disrespect, but this whole situation is just a bit too disappointing.

We used to list them exactly by model and people would still brick their machines. So the empirical evidence lead us to the current setup.

Jan/Feb is always a busy time for support, if it's urgent then feel free to call up along with a ticket. As you said, hybrid mode is running ok for the moment so stick with that for now if you want to delay other testing. Your performance should be the same it will just be G-sync that will be impacted.

Unable to use or enjoy 'G-Sync' is the least of my worries.

Unfortunately the Intel Graphics Card is very weak and it's making it harder to multitask as well as do some tasks at all that require a decent Graphics card... this is besides 'gaming' as a whole which forget about it. So yeah, 'performance' will all be but the 'same'. MSHybrid doesn't even detect, nor access the Nvidia card. It's one or the other when you switch between 'MSHybrid' & 'Discreet'. Hahahaha.

Don't have much of a choice but to wait for tech support to finally answer my inquiry, or for someone to suggest an unofficial/unsupported alternative to my BIOS update conundrum. Oh well... C'est la vie.

Thanks for trying to help me tho. It's very much appreciated.

Hybrid mode should run optimus and in most cases you should not be able to tell the difference to dedicated mode. I think you might actually be having hardware issues, call support if you can on Monday.

There's something really weird going on. So, I did full fresh clean installs of Intel's GPU and Nvidia's drivers. (DDU in safe mode, only installed gpu and physx drivers, etc) and in nvidia's control panel I always have VSYNC as ALWAYS OFF and it works. But sometimes, on Rocket League for example, I noticed input lag, turn on steam's in-game FPS counter and voilá, 60FPS locked... so it's forcing vsync. Even though VSYNC is OFF everywhere else. Anyone knows what's going on? What could be causing this?

My system is P650HP6-G, running 1.05.06 BIOS.

From what I've read online, there's a clear difference. The Nvidia GPU will not be accessed at the same time as the Intel GPU to the point where it isn't even detected. You can only use one or the other, not both at the same time under either MSHybrid and Discreet.

I'll wait to see if there's any answer on that BIOS tomorrow through Tech Support, if that doesn't help even with the latest of BIOS then I'll just come to the conclusion that it's a Hardware issue... either with the Graphics Card, or in worst cases... the whole Motherboard... not really looking forward to the latter tho. Sending it out for repairs would definitely put a dent on time & work efficiency, really hoping it's not a hardware issue.

MSHybrid is working without any issues, but it's definitely not optimal.

Thanks for the heads up. :)

I'll wait and see what solution the Sager tech will give me tomorrow in terms of BIOS, then I'll see if your suggesting is a viable venture in the case that the support I get through Sager doesn't work out.

The help is very much appreciated.

A little update on my situation. More symptoms started popping up as of yesterday during the evening.

Nvidia card under Discreet settings gets barely detected now, and now the computer is starting to get issues to turn on from a Shutdown state... from what I've been reading, it seems that I might be dealing with a defective motherboard that's been probably defective since its manufacturing... but the issues have just been starting to manifest. The Nvidia card is probably also defective, but there's clearly deeper issues.

I've opened a RMA request with Sager, so let's see what kind of response I get... I should be well under the Warranty period, since I got this Laptop about 9 months ago from Sager through Amazon.

I would love to backup my data in the case the just switch it up with a completely new product, but I don't have any enclosures or mounting devices for M.2 2280 SSDs... I did pose the question on my RMA request, and asked that if I get a new product that if it would be possible and just swap the M.2 SSDs & HDD so I still have all my stuff.

    We'll see what happens.

It's my first Sager and first gaming dedicated laptop with very beefy hardware that I invest on, I don't want the experience to end so soon and on such a sour note. Hahahaha! :p

I hate to bump my own post, but ... errr... has anyone from the Sager/Obsidian contingent (or any other Clevo integrator for that matter) noticed similar behaviour? For the record, UEFI and RHEL see the NVME drive, but the latest Windows installer is listing just the SATA drives even after applying the Intel RST RAID driver.

Does anyone with a P650HP have the same issue as I?
Basically, if you close the lid and let it go to sleep, after opening the lid and having windows wake up it will always, always lock games, for example, Rocket League, with VSYNC ON unless I reboot. No matter if I turn ON or OFF on Nvidia Drivers or in-game. It will always lock to 60FPS, after rebooting it will fly to 100+ as it should be.
This can be replicated 100% of the times, whether the lid is closed while plugged in or not. It's indifferent. I'm sick of having to constantly reboot in order for it to work properly.

Finally had time to replace the broken HDD and ofcourse this resulted in a new problem...

    Windows shows the following port
    Port 0: SSD
    Port 1: SSD
Port 2: HDD (replaced the broken HDD with an identical HDD)
    Port 3: HDD

The HDD's are in Raid1 (both are recognised in the BIOS). When I start the laptop, it starts without any problems (although a bit slow with the BIOS boot). The problem occures when I want to sync the replaced HDD with the not broken HDD. After 5% sync and when I am really lucky after 50% sync my "replaced HDD" is recognised as "broken" by Intel Rapid Storage (see attachment). Intel even tries to tell me that Port 2 is "un used". My BIOS is still V1.05.05, although I doubt the BIOS would chance anything since it everything worked well before I replaced my HDD. Any suggestions of what I can do?

I really don't want my laptop having a nice holiday in Portugal when I can't have it also :|

What way have you formatted the replacement disk, does it match the original?

I don't think the BIOS asks for a format, I rember I just replaced it, and Intel Rapid Storage showed "rebuilding". After a while the rebuilt failes because the disk "breaks". Maybe good to know that rebooting "repairs" the HDD, but after a while the HDD "breaks". As you can see in the Disk Management, it doesn't show up overthere (nor is TestDisk willing to see the "broken" HDD), whereas it does inside the BIOS as well as in Intel Rapid Storage.

By switching the "broken" HDD from Port 2 to Port 3 as you asked I moved the issue from Port 2 to Port 3. And ofcourse the Intel Rapid Storage is not capable of syncing since the HDD keeps "dying".

Also added info from Belarc Advisor, it shows that the RAID1 is not SMART...

    Edit: typo's.... so many typo's...

Hello, I am looking forward to buy the XMG P507, does anyone have some experience with it? Are there some issues? What is the difference between the XMG and Sager or Clevo? Does it power throttle the gpu? Because the power supply is 200W it shouldnt, but anyway, i had this issue with my asus which i have to return. Thanks a lot in advance.

    Update on my issue.

Got called by Sager Support which already have my Laptop on hand after I had sent it out for repairs when it's still within warranty... they came down to the conclusion that the Motherboard was failing as well as the NVidia VGA chip, so regardless of the issue... since everything is integrated onto the Motherboard, they ended up replacing pretty much every single major component and swapped the SSD onto the new board, so I can keep everything I had, like my personal configurations & saved documents.

They also did me the favor of flashing the latest Sager BIOS available for this model. Pretty happy with the service I've gotten.

As for warranty, they couldn't really guarantee me with a whole year extension of an official one year warranty with these new parts... but under some special circumstances and depending on the situation, they may still give me the same full support without cost within reason and if it I get hit with another factory defect too close to the repair date... so that's a bit reassuring. Hope it doesn't happen again in the long term, don't want to hit bad luck twice and in such a short time-span.

For the most part! My experience with customer service has been pretty phenomenal. I should be getting my laptop back sometime between Monday & Tuesday. :)

Power problem: the P650HP3 doesnt start at all.

    Hello,
I bought a P650HP3 from PROSTAR the 1/24/2017, bref just one year.
Today, I start the computer.......an nothing.
I noticed the power adapter has not the green light on....so I unplugged it....no change.
I unplug all from the wall and try in another room. Result the green led turned on on the power box.
But when I connect the power box in the labtop.....the green led turn off and nothing, no light on the P650, no noise....
Have you seen this problem before ?
    Help me

PS: at the same time I contacted PROSTAR and wait for answer with anticipation

What I am afraid of is that is comming from an internal PB (inside the labtop), I noticed that the last time I used it I was installing CUDA 9.1 and it asked me to reboot....since then I havent been able to restart the computer.....HOPE that it is not a PB with the GPU
If so, it will be the first time I burn a CGU an moreover in 1 YEAR........
    Please help me :((
