Anyone been able to get lower temps by undervolting the NP8155? I am seeing 80c+ doing basic tasks on the CPU. Ontop of that the bottom gets insanely hot when i am laying down with it on my chest like I do when in bed before going to sleep.

Any news on a potential update/new version of this range with the new Intel 6 core cpus and the upcoming Nvidia 20xx series cards? I really want a 15.6 inch Clevo laptop with a 144hz G-sync screen

Yes it doesn't. I asked about it in January and John replied that there is a free license. However, there is no free license. It's a paid tool now

I have a similar problem with temperatures. Do you know what they did in the laptop to fix the temps? Mine is also from Hidevolution.

Been a while since I've been here...

Over all the time I've been using this thing, I've noticed two rather annoying problems that I'm wondering if anyone else has seen.

    1. Minor annoyance: the fingerprint reader seems to work only a small fraction of the time when waking from sleep. It's almost completely useless in that regard since I rarely shut down. This seems like it could be a driver thing, but so far no joy. I'm using Win10 Edu 1709 at the moment.

    2. Big problem: at times, whether plugged in or not (with a lean toward plugged in), if I jostle the unit in the wrong way, the screen will fill with distortion and it will lock up. Dead, just like that. So far - knock on wood - this hasn't caused any lasting damage that I can see. I suspect there's a short somewhere, but: where, and is this a one-off fluke or has it been a common problem?

EDIT: Happened again. Here's a video. I tried to post this a minute ago, but it happened again as I was. I think I've posted about this before, but it seems to have gotten worse. I'm plugged in right now.

I just got done repasting the CPU and GPU. I was kinda disappointed to see the poor pasting job that gentech had done, mostly looked like they barely put any thermal paste on the GPU, which would explain my high GPU temps. I should've opened it and checked when I first got the laptop. The GPU is already 15 degrees cooler since I repasted it.

Took these pics before I cleaned the old thermal paste off. You can see there's barely anything on the GPU. Can thermal paste melt away like that or was it just put on poorly?

Might be, I did pay extra for them to add IC diamond and it took them extra time to ship it because of that. >;(

No, they have just never seen IC diamond before. The contact patterns are pretty even across the dies.

It looks like it may have pumped a little but the best applications actually are only very thin.

Yeah, when it comes to thermal paste applies the same basic principle as when arguing with your spouse "Less is more" :D But seriously, it doesn't look too bad, given the immediate difference in temps it may have been just a shade too little or the TIM's gone 'off' (for a lack of a better word) or hell, the heatsink may have been screwed a bit loose (in an outfit like gentech that shouldn't really happen, but ... "interns happen" XD )

Got my 651HS-G from XMG yesterday with the 120hz g-sync panel to boot.

Works great, no issues. Really happy with my purchase. Not installing CCC and instead I bought Obsidian Driver Updater plus Fancontrol licenses.

Happy with my purchase so far considering the price of 1340€ (7700/1070/120hz/2x8gb RAM). Can't really get anything with a 1070 and 8th gen Intel with this price. And g-sync.

Have fun with your laptop! Especially for that price this must have been a no brainer :D

    ---

Currently I got a weird display issue, which only happens when using MSHYBRID (with DEDICATED GPU this problem does not occure). I am not capable of changing the brightness (and thus cannot save battery life while at uni...

    What I've tried & checked:
    1. Using the FN+F8/F9 buttons, this does not change brightness.
    2. Device Manager --> Reinstalled and deleted Generic PnP Monitor (with reboots)
    3. Activating Night Light, this results in an immediately return to maximum brightness. When I try to change the color of Night Light, I can see the Night Light color only while changing the color.
    4. Battery Settings: Dimmed On battery 80%, Plugged 50% plugged (changing this makes no difference). Enable aptive brightness On battery ON, Plugged ON (turning it off makes no difference)

Problem also occures in safe mode. Any ideas what could happend?

You cant change brightness on Intel HD?
Do you have latest Intel HD driver installed?
Do you have the latest BIOS?
    Do you have CC installed?

Please reply to all questions. I am actually interested in reproducing and solving that....

Yes, I have Obsidian BIOS 1.05.11
I assume you mean Clevo Control? Nope, I use your Control Station

Can you please try installing latest CC for that model and tell me if that solves the issue... if it does i will have to pull some stuff from CC and add it to Control Station.

Finally I understand why everyone is complaining about Clevo updates and slow downloading :( Anyway, it did the trick, installing Clevo CC solves the problem!

Just for fun, I also deleted CCC and the problem occured again with MSHYBRID (but not with DEDICATED GPU). Obsidian Control Station did mention something about downloading something of CCC but apparently not the part that is missing

What in the bloody hell is that!? Now that is truly some voodoo reseller economics, maybe something having to do with the rise of fingerprint tariffs by the Sager-Clevo Tariff Act causing a reduction of importation of quick sign-ins by half and an exportation loss of productivity and a leading cause to switch to the alternate PIN method exacerbating the fingerprint recession aftereffects or perhaps the laffer jostle curve, which states that the greater the jolt, the more the screen ceases to work and as a result generates less pixel output and vice versa. Whatever you do, just don't fall in the sinkhole of the great screen depression at the minimum points of said curve sending you back in time at 88 FPS to the dark ages of computing history. Strange unknown symptomatic things happen when the spatial distortion-plugged in time continuum is disturbed by the sheer mass of a jostle. Such occurrences as odd continuous frequency noise and pixelated screen tearing ad infinitum thus prove the gravity of this matter by exposing the non-Euclidean geometry of this spatial curvature in what should be Euclidean flat display metrics. Mr. Stein, I'm going to have to go with the the inadvertant discovery of ripples of screen distortion otherwise known as localized gnarly gravitational waves affecting the very basic properties of LCD panels.

I have the same issue with the fingerprint reader. Very annoying and can't find any solution to that. I was even thinking of trying to replace the entire touchpad with once that has a capacitve reader.

With regards to the video issue, I had a similar issue with an Acer laptop. I identified it to be something related to the battery. When moving around and the battery gets a bump or a shove the same thing happens. Just check on that and see if there's a loose battery connector.

I haven't had any issues with my finger print reader. I noticed if I didn't enroll my prints just so, recognition suffered.

Have you tried deleting the prints and re-enrolling? Do you get any Windows errors saying it can't recognize your prints?

Hey guys new to the site but been checking in on this post since I got my P650HS-G through Eluktronics earlier this year.

My concern is that of everyone with a 1070 laptop, fan noise. I have taken the necessary measures to "optimize" short of repasting: undervolting cpu, afterburner power profiles, geforce settings, etc.

It seems my GPU fans are staying on even when not under load or with spiking temps (discrete mode only). Is this something that can be controlled with updated BIOS? other recommendations to control GPU fans? Thanks

No one can void your warranty for using software on a PC (except maybe if you disable a BD PROCHOT flag and fry your chip but alas..)

    OBSIDIAN TOOL is no more...

What we now have is 4 different apps:

Updater - Stable release software to update drivers
Fan Control - Stable release software to control fans - although a big performance improvement should come soon
Control Station - Beta release software - a full replacement for Clevo Control Center
Keyboard LED - Alpha release software - a replacement for the CCC keyboard color software

You can follow that thread to get all the latest info about it.

Thanks for the info guys, using Fan Control has dramatically reduced my fan noise.. like night and day.

I did notice that my GPU now will idle up to 59C using Fan Control. I do prefer this because the fan is next to silent running 5.5.1 fan speeds.

Nonetheless, is 59C excessively high for idle even with next to no fan speed? Would a repasting potentially reduce this?

So that means you are not using the MANUAL mode right?
I would say 59 is a bit high for idle, since it is enough to generate heat that will warm up your chassis/palm rest.
I usually like to target idle temps at 45 to 50.

Those tables are not made customized for every model possible. Find your own values and see what works.

For example my 650hs-g with g-sync on, I need to run around 45/40/40 to hover around 55c cpu 50c gpu on full desktop idle (incl. undervolted and repasted with kryonaut)

Without reading through 160 pages of posts, maybe one of you or more can help me with blue screens. This laptop was great for a year, but it is constantly being hammered by updated drivers that result in BSODs. In past months, I've learned that Windows 10 by default updates drivers ( a bad thing for laptops). By turning this off I no longer have crashes due to synaptics touchpad drivers. This evening, kbddass.sys trashed my system. ****er doesn't even show up in google.

Frankly, I'm about to write this investment off as a lost cause. I simply cannot afford weekly crashes. Dell was bad, this is terrible.

I haven't had a BSOD in a long time (touch wood). I do update my drivers manually though from time to time. But i'm not sure if I have disable the auto driver update feature of Win 10

If you might do me a favor, please go to Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System settings (on the left). You will get a System Properties dialog. Select the hardware tab then the device installation settings button. Tell me if if is set to Yes or No.

I set mine to No 6+ months ago after Microsoft replaced my synaptics driver with the latest from Synaptics. The only problem - the latest driver was not compatible with the laptop.

Interestingly, your laptop is nearly identical to mine. I have 32GB ram. How old is your laptop?

    thx

The famous SynTP.sys is indeed caused by a mix of CC / Drivers.
What is funny is that we noticed that the more undervolt you had the more sensitive to that BSOD the system would become.

But well... we spent so much time having to deal with complains with drivers, CC, BSODs like that, it made me mad to a point where i started making our own software to take over everything...

First was the drivers mess and that´s how our Updater software was born... then it was all the complaints with fans speed, that was how our fan control was born, and then for last it was a full replacement for CC because the SynTP.sys BSOD was just unacceptable...

From our clients reports the P650HS with latest BIOS / Drivers / Control Station, is running perfect!

John - that smells like an advertisement! :) But seriously, I'll *pay* to have a stable development machine. It is *very* painful to have a BSOD when you have 4 virtual machines running. I'll take a look at it immediately.

Control Station is free... how is that an advertisement ?
Anyone that follows the thread knows it´s something we been working hard on.
Most of it´s features are requests from the community, even Keyboard LED, it´s just a quick dirty software done because users who do not use CC wanted something that would allow to control the LED, and it´s also free...

If you want to try Control Station please uninstall Control Center, reboot, try it out ;)
    Report problems in it´s thread.

:) <--- this is an indicator I was joking. I'll be trying it out immediately along with the driver utility.
