Hey guys. I have a P650HS-G from HID. I want to reinstall Windows 10 and in the past I used the great Obsidian Tools but running it just now resulted in the "no license. purchase" error. It appears the free (basic) nbr license is no longer valid. So instead I want to download the drivers from the Clevo site. However, the closest to this model I can find is " P65xHPx". Would this be the best driver for this laptop? Thanks.

Most of the drivers should be similar. Contact their support if you run into issues or use our download site.

Is the 1060/1070 in the 65X series MaxQ or not?

Does anyone else have a problem with their audio range? I can't get beyond 20 on the volume slider before it becomes unbearably loud on headphones and for speakers there's an even lesser range. Going from 2-4 feels like you're going from 50% to 100%. It's as if the 0-100 range has been condensed to 0-10. Could be that I'm ahead in driver updates, but I don't doubt it could be caused by something else entirely.

Edit: It seems like a Realtek driver issue v6.01.8372, as solution was to either rollback or go ahead to newest driver edition as it looks to a be a problem with this specific driver version. Hopefully, this can serve as a future reference for users who searched a similar issue. Will add additional details, and I believe this issue is mutually exclusive from the one being discussed in the Clevo Drivers Update Utility thread with regards to the headphone jack.

Great tip, thanks! I'll check the battery connector later today.

I have not tried re-enrolling, but no, I don't get any errors. It's as if the hardware isn't connected at all. It occurred to me I should check to see if there's any power management settings I can adjust in Device Manager and will check that later. When it does work, it usually detects me correctly on the first or second swipe.

That kind of issue usually is driver related, thanks for sharing :)

8 days later and the laptop is rock solid....

If someone might be able to point out the obvious to me - is there a way to just search a discussion? Paging through 161 pages of comments is ridiculous.

I need to know how to reset the NVRAM on my unit. It refuses to boot when I add more RAM.

    Thanks

Good to hear. Sure, in the top right corner there is a magnifying glass on mobile whereas on desktop there is an input box with the text: "Search...", press that button as it serves as a search function. Then check off the "Search this forum only" that is enabled by default and check on the "Search this thread only". If you're unable to find anything in this thread about the said topic, then go back to the default general forum search.

Meaker - explain "desktop mode"? Do you mean you prefer desktops to laptops? I would tend to agree with you, as there is almost always some little weird thing the oem has done to the laptop. My last laptop was a Dell Precision. Pretty good machine, but (1) you have to buy into whatever graphics support they provided and (2) I had to get Radeon, and that thing drove me batshit crazy.

On my phone, in the chrome browser you can ask it to present as a desktop to the website so you get the normal desktop page.

Hey guys, Just updated Fan Control and now it won't let me select any mode but EC Automatic and Max. Also, now it wants me to purchase the tool for 35 euro.

Has this always been the case? I thought it was a free software.

That's unfortunate.. I was just getting used to a reasonably quiet laptop.. does anyone know of any promo codes or anything for download? I'd be happy to make the purchase, only 35 euro seems a bit steep..

    Let me add this information...

    A) Development of all software is now at around 31500€ (1 person at 2500€/month for a year + one laptop), not counting hosting costs.
    B) Software total sales since beginning is bellow 8000€
    C) We do offer a CC replacement + Keyboard LED for free.

I´m sorry that this is such a niche market, if it was a bigger market we could sell more at a lower price.

Oh and by the way, any brand / reseller can resell you our software at a VERY discounted price, any brand or reseller can buy it from us to offer to their clients at a very discounted priced...
There is only one single company in Europe that seems to be serious to offer some of our software to their clients.
So i can only conclude that either brands / resellers see no advantage in our software or they think it´s too expensive (even tough only two contacted us for pricing...)

That´s how it is man, if this was some side project that i was doing at home on free time, it would be cheaper but slower development (A LOT SLOWER), but our company pays me a wage and i been doing this for a year now... so i can´t justify the expense / profit.
I actually just had to put all that software development on pause, not profitable, unless we get some partners going.
So since the beginning of this week i was sent back to web development/design .... yuck!

14 days later, no blue screens. best $20 USD (or whatever) I've spent in a while.

Sure, if you mainly game on your laptop it might seem steep, but where I come from, one blue screen easily costs me 100 euro, not to mention the blood pressure medicine, less hardware broken in rage, etc. Fair disclosure - I don't mess with the fan control much. I just put on my noise cancelling headphones :)

That's one thing I can never get over, how anyone games without a headset even when their computer is quiet. I've got a pretty nice speaker set on my desktop and it's metaphorically gathering dust because I use the headset for 99% of audio.

Well it was computer chair entertainment still, I had a soundblaster platinum card, 9800pro for hardware acceleration and the 4.1 setup. Was a beast at the time lol. Had the original matrix when it came out.

Having a P650HP6-G (60hz panel, no gsync, toggleable MSHybrid and Discrete in Bios) with the latest 10511 Bios will be able to use G-Sync on an external monitor through DP right?

And, I've never tried it because I was honestly a bit scared it's could screw something up but toggling Discrete mode will muxswitch the internal wiring to the gtx1060 right? Even for the internal panel?

    Thanks

Mux is only internal, others go to dGPU so external optimus is always available.

Working on it as we speak, trying to fix that darn brightness thing... its ALWAYS breaking... mostly due to Intel to be honest.

Unless my laptop is a big mystery (it does eats HDD's....) this problem was solved ages ago . What I did was:
    1. Install CCC (as suggested by @John@OBSIDIAN-PC)
    2. Restart
    3. Remove CCC
    4. Restart
    5. Open Obsidian Control Station, it should detect that CCC is missing and requests to install something.

This should solve it. Not sure if it has any impact, I also did a BIOS update (to Obsidian V1.05.14).

WTF PC Specialist? Apparently hitting near throttling temps is fine, thankfully it hits 96 so they still should fix it, but I’m concerned they will get it back after 2 weeks of “”””repair””” hitting the same temperature again because it’s “”””within limits”””. Honestly the worst retailer I have delt with ....

And yours is working in both DISCRETE and MSHYBRID modes?
To solve that problem with your model we had to update the bios which was the actual solution.

Okay, serious question. Are temperatures of around 95 average and 99 max without fan boost and 90 average and 97 max with fan boost normal? Does the P650HP6-G (i7 7700hq) really overheat that often? What temperatures are you people here getting?

I have had mine sent out, but what should I be expecting and should I ask for a better paste to be applied perhaps? And, I have been considering replacing the battery, should I get it replaced?

    >90C = not good.

What are your ambient temp? Do you use a laptop cooler? What tasks do you run that leads to such temps?

Mine, ICD paste, 70F ambient air conditioned room, fn+1 max fan, laptop cooler, 4 straight hours of Arma3 high settings 1440p leads to 70-75C GPU, 77-79C CPU. Without Fn+1 max, its 3-5C higher.

Whoops, better ignore my previous message. Seems I did not uninstall CCC. The brightness bug is still active when on MSHYBRID when CCC is not installed.. (and that's probably why I installed CCC again and never looked back)

I got an external gsync monitor to use with the laptop and in windows 10 screen options I turned off the laptops screen so it's being used a desktop machine essentially, the other day I uninstalled nvidia drivers to do a clean install of newer ones and when uninstalling the external DP monitor went blank, no signal, opened up the laptop's lid and blank, removing the DP cable didn't wake the laptops screen, I had to do a cold shutdown without the DP cable connected. Is there any other way to go through this process without having to remove the cable, boot up the laptop and do the whole uninstall/install thing through the laptops screen?

    Thanks!

Ambient temp is 20 degrees, takes 15 minutes to Forza Horizon to send it above 90 degrees regardless of using a fan boost or not.

Most likely issue: thermal paste or heatsink seating
    Likely solution: new pastejob

Tried it using whatever thermal paste they supplied to me after asking, had only a very sight effect. Thought of using Kryaunuat but I thought I might let them handle it and see what might happen.

Since the DP is directly connected to the Nvidia Card I think it is not possible to use it without the Nvidia Driver.

I'm actually making our own brightness service. Which will allow any of our software to give the user control of the brightness in any mode + individual external monitors (if they have bright control option).
    Made good progress today :)

Usually if pastejob is fine but issue persists, most frequent problem raised by users include a bad heatsink that does not align or sit properly. Bad contact leads to bad temps eventually. Hopefully ur situation will be resolved!
