If the temps are REALLY bad it could also be a bad heat pipe.

Always try a repaste. It did an INSANE difference to me. Not sure if it was the repaste job, or a combination of both that and resitting the heatsinks.

So my CPU temps were reaching 86C after an hour of playing Witcher and GPU 83C this is even after undervolting the CPU by 0.151v and undervolting/overclocking the 1060.

I took both heatsink out gave them a thorough clean, everywhere, with 99% isopropyl, the paste job was a mess, seeping everywhere out the dies.
Applied a tiny tiny lentil sized blob of kryonaut on both and reseated everything and went ahead and tightened down the screws a bit more than hand resistance.

Wow, the difference is honestly dramatic. After 2 hours of witcher 3 the CPU maxed at 64C. Yes, that's real, the GPU went down to 78C, the dramatic difference was definitely the CPU, it's insane. There's no more random second long peaks to 70C when opening random software like Chrome etc as it happened before but idle temps did not change whatsoever, both idling at about 40-45C.

I would first test it with a new AC Adapter, if that does not solve it the you either have a bad battery or bad charging circuit (needs motherboard servicing).

Or a dodgy connector on the motherboard which is a bit easier to replace.

Without battery i worked fine for few hours. With battery it works fine for some time when i remove " Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/fix-laptop-plugged-not-charging-solved/
At about 40-55% of battery capacity charge rate is 0 or close to zero and battery is discharging for about 1 sec every minute or less
As battery and ac adapter cost about 150$ each should i bought them both ? Or is there any more test that i can do

The "System" process starts using around 25% CPU the second I plug in an external monitor via HDMI. It never goes away despite several restarts. When I unplug the monitor and restart, the System process stops using so much of the CPU. Any idea how to fix this? I don't want my fans constantly going for no reason when I have a monitor plugged in.

EDIT: The keyboard also seems to occasionally malfunction when an external display is connected. Not all the time though. Instead of typing it opens up accessibility tools, etc.

I’ve tried the latest drivers as well as older drivers with a clean installation. Any other ideas? It seems trivial but it's a major problem since the CPU won't stop pegging at 3800mhz. Don't want to leave it like that all day with the heat and fan noise.

Try a reinstall of windows but it looks like an nvidia driver issue looking online.

I think this issue was solved in one of the latest versions of BIOS. Which one do you have?

Seemed to have been resolved once it came back. CPU maxes at 84 (though 80 most of the time) now even without the fan boost. They apparently used a newer paste according to them and cleaned the thing. Whatever they used seemed to have worked this time unlike before.

Also about the i7 7700hq Turbo boost, how does it exactly behave? I have noticed that the chip doesn’t seem to want to go to 3.8 GHz sometimes (mostly sits around 3.6-3.4) in games (Used Horizon 4 and the Witcher 3). Is this because it’s running a lot of cores at that speed and hence can’t turbo to 3.8?

    Hey guys,

My first post on this forum, so hopefully I'm not in the wrong area for first posts. I have been on the site a few times, and when I was looking for a replacement for my old dell xps, I came across Sager laptops. My question is, I bought the Sager the NP 8156 directly from Sager. It's been I think over a year now, and I've installed a lot of junk, programs, android editing software, tax software, etc. Anyway, I'd like to reformat and put a fresh copy of windows 10 on it next week. I'm pretty savvy with computers so I figured I'd just go to Sager and download their files for my model computer. I figured some items like the video driver, I'd go to Nvidia and download latest Gforce drivers, but I don't know if the drivers on Sager site for everything is considered the latest available or ??? Because it shows Feb 2017, so I would think something might be newer than those listed. Just curious what you guys have done so I am running the latest drivers.
    Appreciate the help

No, I'm going to ask them since it worked really well.

Interesting, it probably means 4 cores are being used by FH4 and the Witcher 3 most of the time and they only use 2 at least some of the time.

Anyone know where I can purchase a new Power brick for the NP8115? Mine is no longer working to charge the laptop unless I have it in a certain position on the floor with the laptop sitting on its back edge pressed agasin't the floor which is doing jack **** for airflow since its blocking the vents there.

Ebay search the model number and the voltage/current/connector.

Your reseller or our site can also provide them.

Does anyone know if Intel's AC-9560 will work with a P650HP6-G? Or just the 9260?

Use the 9260. A seller on eBay told me that the card wouldn't work with 7th generation and older CPUs.
It's odd, it should work... but I would not risk it since I don't even know the difference between the two.

That would be very odd for it to care about the CPU, first I have heard of that.

Yep. And I still don't understand the differences between the two cards except one can be soldered to the board in the new CNVIO format or whatever that is.

Hey guys, I am here again with another issue thats getting me quite desperate because I cant find anyone else posting about this issue. I am attempting to install Pop OS but with no success. After attempting to boot into the installation, the screen remains black and nothing happens, only fans are spinning fast, so I have to hard shutdown with power button. I have attempted to run it with MSHybrid as well as with Discrete mode (since im on a p650hp6) and with probably all possible solutions that people had (nomodeset, acpi=off and noapic) but of course it didnt help in my case, why would it... I also want it to run on integrated graphics to not consume much energy since im working on the go. If anyone has a solution to this, or they could run Ubuntu without any issues, I will greatly appreciate it.

PS.: I can get into the installer of Pop OS when i turn UEFI off, but then I am unable to install it as a dualboot with windows, which I also need.

Not sure what do you mean, I made a bootable USB drive using etcher, booted the USB drive, i got a single prompt saying "try and install pop os" and after selecting it, the laptop froze with a black screen and spinning fans (i assume it went into some kind of loop caused by the gpu drivers, because this happened on classic ubuntu as well). I never had even a chance to boot into the installation. Theres a possibility to edit the linux command with "e" where i tried to put nomodeset and acpi=off + noapic. Didnt even manage to get to the log to see where it freezes.

You talked about installing it in UEFI and dual booting, so this was in non-UEFI and without the windows OS drive in then?

ah, in non-uefi mode I tried to install it, but it failed.. I think its because I wanted to install it on a partition of the same disk where windows is installed and that is in uefi mode. Anyway even if I managed to install it, switching between uefi and non uefi mode wouldnt be really convenient so I would rather stay in uefi mode.

EDIT: I put it on the same disk because I have only a single ssd and hard drive is filled with personal data

You might want to find a community based around that OS who can help you, they may be able to identify common BIOS settings or steps you need to take.

Its just linux is a niche at the best of times on laptops and choosing a small distro with a closed off community is never going to end well.

So to anyone who is coming through the same issue as me, I have good news. I fixed the problem. The only way I could work this out however is to dualboot it in legacy bios mode, which means that I had to reinstall windows as well. Yes, it runs on MBR disk which has disadvantages over GPT, but unless u have a larger than 2 TB HDD or you need more than 4 partitions , you dont have to worry (my case). As long as I booted up Pop os (based on ubuntu, and without any kernel settings whatsoever) the installation went very well and had no issues with MShybrid. Also updating and upgrading it went flawlessly, touchpad and keyboard worked out of the box, even the keyboard backlight control is working now. Everything runs as you would expect it to run and without any necessary adjustments.

You would need to switch it as it's set before the OS loads.

I've finally received the 1.05.11 from PCSpecialist along with instructions, I just have a question regarding flashing a laptop bios. I've always had desktop PCs, so I've never had to go through all these steps, which are like 3-4 steps in total, flashing EC, then BIOS, then something else etc. I just want to ask, flashing on a clevo laptop, won't affect anything related to the OS right? In terms of UEFI / CSM etc?

Latest BIOS is 1.05.14, the previous version was 1.05.11 therefore:
I'd go through Sager directly for their updated stock BIOS. They should provide you with a link to download the BIOS along with instructions on how to flash the BIOS correctly.
Here is Sager's email: [email protected]
    Phone #: 1-800-741-2219 (US domestic)
    Phone #: 1-626-964-4849

I could post (or PM) the instructions they sent me if need be..

Thanks for that! Don't Sager customize their BIOS for their laptops? I know everything stems from Clevo but if there's specific things they change surely it could pose some danger to my specific one?

    Thanks

Exactly, that's why you have to go back and check thru your reseller, PCSpecialist, if that is the correct BIOS for your specific make and model - NP8155, 8156, or 8157. In my case (NP8157), my reseller asked me a few things such as the S/N # of my laptop and then proceeded to contact Sager, after which Sager emailed me with the download link with info & instructions. I'm assuming that the process was the same for PCSpecialist, however, less transparent in explaining it fully.
