"Factory option" doesn't mean doesn't support that configuration, it just means that the system ships out in such a configuration. Oh well, I wonder why the hell the same configuration doesn't work in the HP, when in the HS it's absolutely fine (basically, the only difference *should* be the 1060 vs 1070) with everything else being the same. If you can borrow a m2 to 2.5'' adapter you can still have the desired combo (even if you use the other 2.5'' for something else). Also huh, there shouldn't there be 4 m2 slots in that spec sheet?

I bought the 9560 wifi card but it doesn't fit in the wifi card slot. Whats the best one I can get for the laptop?

At least on the HS-G, the 9260 works like a charm, though you'll need the proper router to feel the difference to the 8260. Also huh, it'd appear that the new AX200/AX201 are hitting the market, so I may give one of those a spin (as soon as I have the router to test with, ofc)

My laptop came with the 8265NW I think. I'll go for the 9260 thanks.

Hey everyone! I'm new here, glad to find other people passionate about customizable laptops like me. I'm an owner of a P650HP6. I'm quite satisfied with the laptop however I thought of upgrading it. I mainly do photo editing work with this laptop and rarely game.

I currently have installed a 3K Panasonic display but I would like to replace it with the new 4K OLED display by Samsung. I've seen it available as an upgrade for the newest Clevos (PB50 I think). Both of them uses 40 Pin eDP so I think it wouldn't be a problem. Someone in the forum that has experience with replacing screens of the P650 can confirm me the compatibility of this OLED display? I've contacted my reseller (PCspecialist) but they refuse to help me. Another problem is that I can't find anywhere that sells this display. Anyone knows who can supply me one of these OLED displays?

I thought of other upgrades but these are less of a priority compared to the screen upgrade:

    - Did someone successfully replaced the OEM battery with a higher capacity one? If you ditched the 2.5" bay there's room for a larger battery. As I currently just have a NVME M.2 SSD I'm willing to sacrifice the option to install a 2.5" drive. I can achieve 6 hours of run time in light usage (browsing in lectures). I only achieve 4-5 hours before but I undervolted it and tweaked other systems parameters a bit. I would like to have 9 hours of battery, that would be so helpful!

    - Someone tried out the new Intel AX200 wifi card? I just bought a 802.11 AX router. I currently have a 8265 installed but it should be compatible with the P650?

    - Crazy optional DIY, can you reduce the bezels of the screen? It not that bad but it would look cool and modern. Maybe sawing off the removable plastic bezel? Probably not possible but if someone tried it out please tell me!

Thanks everyone for the help, hope that I can pull off the upgrade/s. I will try to help others but I'm a newbie here :)

The OLED panel models had at least dedicated mode disabled to get brightness control working. No batteries made to fit a larger space and a custom one would be tricky. Not sure if the AX200 would require the chipset to be the one with the included wifi capabilities.

Thanks for your response Meaker! I normally use hybrid mode so I'm fine disabling discrete mode. But physically it should be compatible? Do you know where can I buy one?

I'm not sure to be honest, the model was given its own designation but that's likely down to the firmware thing.

The AX200 is the successor to 9260 full-fat cards and the 201 is the same for the 9560-like CNVio's (where a lot of the heavy lifting is moved to function blocks on the CPU/chipset die), so it should work fine, but I can't seem to catch my wife's Clevo unattended to use it as a guinea pig :D
By the way, is there a viable upgrade path from the 60Hz 1080p IPS to either 4K or 144hz 1080p on the 650HS-G?

Nope, but I was asking because my wife's panel is starting to fail (slamming it shut when there's something on the keyboard tends to do that to one's screen) and was wondering if there's a better option than the (slightly underwhelming) LP156WF6 the laptop shipped with.

Electrically it would work so long as it has the same eDP pin count. It may need a cable upgrade to 40 pin.

So, finally got off my butt, disassembled the laptop - the heat sink / pipes is impressive. Diamond IC after cleaning, etc. Now idling as I type this at 45c CPU, GPU is at 42, much better. I'll do some stress testing to really let the compound set.... Appreciate the suggestions.

It's IC Diamond, the curing time is minimal at best (as per their own website it's 2 hours or less)... Either way, 45/42 Idle temps seem kinda high to be honest even without an accompanying undervolt. Currently I'm at 38 to 40 with an ambient temp of ~26*C (with a 4 month old Kryonaut paste job). If I get off my fat(ish) arse to grab the cooler, it gets to the 35*C just from the improved airflow (without turning the cooler on). If you don't mind me asking @cgilley , which application method did you use? And while I'm at it, peak-temps under load?

Well, I've been working it all day, so cure is a relative thing... application - pea sized on the GPU, rice sized on the CPU.I've never seen 38 on this unit. The fans/coolers are clean. I'm using Obsidian's fan control to monitor. I keep my house about the same as you - 26C, and the laptop is on my desk with expected air flow.. My go to game is World of Tanks at max settings and 1920x1080. Cpu hits 80C, gpu same.. Cpu used to go over 90

I bought my Clevo through a third party vendor, got tired of Dell f'ing things up and not having a clue. Always had good support through them - they know their products. A while back I asked about this, and they said they usually see low to mid 40s.

When you say idling, what's your CPU at? I have an issue with drivers deep inside Windows 10 sucking cpu - 10%+

So my laptop was occasionally freezing when I used to move and now it won’t power on .. it will just turn it’s keyboard and power lights for a sec and power off right away!

Anyone has any clues on what could be going on? I tried disconnecting the battery but that changed nothing.

    How old? Ideas:

    - maybe a bad battery AND charger;
    - bad power board in the laptop.

    It’s two years old.

Why wouldn’t it shut down outright then? It just seemed to freeze before it died, the fans even keep going.

Yeah, the top end is about as good as I'm seeing here, perhaps I've just lucked a bit more with the heatsink bingo :)

Sorry, mate, but that's the tell-tale of a bad paste job. Crack it open and try again and as long as the thermal paste is not electro-conductive (Haven't used the MasterGel Pro before, so no idea there), but laptops are a bit more tolerant of going too much on thermal paste than desktops, especially when you're careful how you're screwing in the heatsinks back onto the motherboard. Also, might want to try the long line approach on the CPU (pea works fine with the smaller GPU), also be careful not to overlap/move the thermal pads around the GPU and you should be fine(tm).

Please ignore the "bad solder" comments, no offense to the poster. Lets apply Ocums razor - focus on the simplest solution.

okay without having the hardware here I'm guessing based on your description... trying to help based on what I have see in the past. "The fans keep going" is new info.

If both the battery had issues and the charger, the charger would be unable to help the battery, so when the surge hit it all shuts down.
Fair enough. I'll take another pass when I get time. I'm using Diamond, and it's non-conductive. Pulling the cooler off again will let me see how my first attempt went.

    Thanks

Meaker's not giving much meat to his answers :) Laptop mainboards are probably more complex than most other things in your house. They are almost always custom layouts with thousands of solder connections. To be able to "find" the issue, one would need the motherboard schematic to track the power flow and walk that path with a digital volt meter. Eventually, you'd find where the power stopped. Using a magnifying glass, you look real hard at each connection in the area. It's not like swapping memory... you'd need a skilled tech or an equally skilled engineer.

I just looked at the schematic for the unit ( http://www.e-weekly.co.uk/download/RnD/DRIVERS/CLEVO/P6x0Rx/P65RE_ESM.pdf is close), it looks like everything is on the mainboard.

    ---------------------------------------------
Do the fans come on at all? After thinking about this, your laptop is behaving like the cpu / gpu is instantly overheating (they get hot *very* fast). Make sure the fans operate, the fins are clean, etc. Maybe the heatsink has come loose.

Otherwise, you need to find a reputable repair shop that does local repairs. Sometimes things just break.

    @cgilley @Meaker@Sager
    **** BIG UPDATE ****

The thing booted on its own just now and I'm being as cautious as possible with and it and trying to avoid moving it. Just moved it to reconnect the battery again and the issue seems to be gone, but I won't be surprised if it dies again If I put it in a bagpack or something.

I have cleaned the CPU fans recently, and no temp issues to report.

My laptop has been sent out to repair recently (display + keyboard) to the retailer, so maybe if I contact them about it I can get something done, was planning on returning it anyhow since the display still had bad bleeding issues after the repair.

Uhhh, if it wasn't doing this prior to the repair that's what I call a smoking gun. Swapping a keyboard is trivial, but the LCD is a bit more complex. I'd not be surprised if they didn't correctly hook up all the cables.

    Hello all,

My p650hp-6g cpu temperature is behaving weird, if I start it up it goes to 70c and idles there for a few minutes and then drops back to 45c and goes back to 60-70-80c with no load after a few minutes again, all this with nothing but OBISIDIAN-PC Fan Control running and HWMonitor to check the temperatures, no idea what happened to the laptop, but it suddenly started behaving like this.

Do I reapply the thermal paste, if yes what paste would you recommend? Also is it particularly hard to reapply the paste (have built a pc before but that was a few years ago)

I do have Clevo Control Center uninstalled and have OBSIDIAN-PC Fan Control as placeholder, could that be a problem?

I put the fans on max speed to avoid crash, since that has happened before if I let if run on EC Automatic or 'normal mode'.

But I think I've found the culprit being a windows update which kept trying to install itself but failing the whole time...

Hey all, been a while since I actually logged on here but my P650 started having the famous keyboard issue where the W key would get stuck even after releasing it during gaming. According to the threads on here, I gathered that the heat from the processor melted the rubber under the key which causes the keys to stick, which is why it only happens during gaming and under load. I've reached out to my system builder and they've asked me to head down to their service center for a keyboard replacement. Gonna request a repaste as well. Anyone else had this problem with their P650?

I had a similar problem with mine (Home to Page Down/Num Lock to -) going a bit sticky and stiff, but I think it's less heat damage and more accumulation of gunk and a slight mishap with some cola. I am considering contacting my vendor (PCSpecialist UK). Honestly, for me the bigger issue is that some colour combos/setups on the backlight, the colour is way off off (ie selected blue + something else, the blue is so washed out, it's basically bluish white)... Still, after almost 2 years, I can definitely knock on wood that my biggest issues are the RGB colours and that I never managed to get my (after market) LTE module's GPS to lock on :D

Yeah I had problems with the LED colours as well. I went through 4 different keyboards now and I can tell you that the variances in the RGB colours are very wide. I always have the same colour on my keyboard which is Cyan (R0,G255,B255) and it looks all different on all 4 keyboards I have used before. I've never used LTE on my laptop before but I'm interested in trying it out. Not sure what I need to enable LTE on my laptop tho. I'm mostly using my mobile hotspot from my phone so putting the sim in my laptop and using LTE directly seems like a more logical choice
