Hello!
Im a new owner of a Clevo P650RP6-G and im having that issue with the fan noise... can i use your OBSIDIAN TOOL to update my bios and EC even tho my laptop is from a diferent re-brand?
Thankx for your work
-
So I've installed the latest version of the obsidian tool that includes Throttlestop. It seems to work fine, but checking off the 'start service with windows' option only works some of the time.

I installed the "Creator" update for WIN 10.
Since my GPU is 5 degree warmer (not joking!!!)
and thus the fan not so silent anymore.
Has anyone any idea why this could be?!
Best regards

Also which graphics driver are you using? Otherwise report it to microsoft with screenshots of usage/temps before and after.
-
Open Task Scheduler. Then press Task Scheduler Library on the left. Look for a task named Throttlestop in the list. Right click it and press properties. I recommend then changing the values to the same values in this guide starting from step 4.

I updated and reverted two times. Issues stayed the same.
I am curious what other users experience will be.

Has anyone found a solution to the irregular fan fulsating issue?
I get it while gaming and sometimes even on some light loads. They speed up and down very rapidly and inconsistently. Maybe it has something to do with XTU or CCC? I have the latest BIOS and EC, I've had this problem for a while now -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It sounds like a low hysteresis value in the fan table on the EC.

Ant idea on how I can revert it?
Thanks -

Have you made sure the machine is propped up slightly on the back, this may help even out the temperatures in a more mechanical way.

Hi there!
Performing a NVRam Reset left me with my BIOS/Startup Password reset/gone
How come, that this is possible? This option should not exist, as in this case the PW Option is useless.
What is your experience?

NVRam Reset should demand the masterpassword as well...

There is no replacement for physical security, in your case if someone wanted they could just get the BIOS chip replaced and use it as normal still.
Pair that off against someone locking themselves out of the notebook and bricking it and that's why clearing it works. -

Now for something completely different:
Has anyone done the Creators Update?! I tried 3 times, and not only do I get indexing that starts all over again after every restart, but my GPU temps are worse -> the fans are loudly spinning in idle. There is a difference of 4-6 degrees between builds in my machine...
-
I'm having the same thing after the Creators Update. GPU temp's gone up, fan is spinning constantly

Do not expect that everything is bug free and ready to go with a new major update from the Redmond Morons HQ.
-
So, I've done the following:
- Tried different versions of Geforce drivers. The most recent one and the one before did not make any difference
- Reinstalled Clevo Control Center. No difference
Not what's the issue here, couldn't find anything on the web as of yet too as release is too fresh.
Curiously, before when idle the temp was 42 and never different, now it is 43. Saw it going up to 45-46 for no reason. Makes fans start spinning louder than before Creators Update.
In-game I was getting 78-79 as opposed to 77-78 before.
A very strange issue indeed. Observing GPU-Z when idle i can see GPU load occasionally fluctuating up to 4% indicating that something is constantly using GPU cycles.
I hope it will be fixed soon as fans are getting on my nerves quickly. -
Could it have something to do with the "gaming mode"? Just shooting blanks here btw...

guys plz help me: I have a XMG p707 2017 model with a GTX 1070 and 7820 HK CPU which is a Clevo P670.
at the moment i am running BIOS and EC both at 1.05.01.
there is a new EC Version to download 1.05.03
https://www.mysn.de/secure/userarea...7_1070_P707_1060_1070_2017_EC_1.05.03_XMG.zip
and also a new BIOS 1.05.02
https://www.mysn.de/secure/userarea...1070_P707_1060_1070_2017_BIOS_1.05.02_XMG.zip
the problem is that i dont know exactly which files to use for flashing.
in the EC.zip is a file ecflash.bat which i am sure is the right one.
but in the BIOS.zip are many files: FLASH.nsh, FLASHME.nsh, FlashMEWinX64.bat, FlashWinX64.bat
There is a Manual ( https://www.mysn.de/driver/_Sonstiges/Anleitungen/Anleitung BIOS Flash EFI.pdf) from Schenker that describes BIOS flashing with the EFI-Shell and there is mentioned, if you have a FLASHME.nsh you need to use first MesetX64.efi, after that the Computer restarts and then you have to use FLASHME.nsh ......... but MesetX64.efi is missing in the Bios-zip-Archive (there is only a MeSet.efi)
so i dont know which files to use...
plz help me - thx a lot!Last edited: Apr 13, 2017 -

Quoting myself here. I Run P507 - so just imagine your Bios version standing there
1. Go here: https://www.mysn.de/driver/XMG/XMG_P507_P707/BIOS/
2. Download: XMG_P507_1070_P707_1060_1070_EC_1.05.03TR.zip
3. Download: XMG_P507_1070_P707_1060_1070_BIOS_1.05.07a.zip
4. Use "rufus" to create a bootable USB Stick -> FAT 32 / FREE DOS
5. Create two directorys on the bootable USB Stick one called "ec" one called "bios"
6. Unzip the XMG_P507_1070_P707_1060_1070_EC_1.05.03TR.zip to the "ec"
7. Unzip the XMG_P507_1070_P707_1060_1070_BIOS_1.05.07a.zip to the "bios"
8. DISABLE Bitlocker in System Setup (if you use it)
9. Disable UEFI in BIOS
10. Select to boot from the USB
11. After Free Dos has booted:
11a. Change to "ec" directory and type "ecflash.bat"
12. Let flash and restart
13. After Free Dos has booted again:
13a. Change to "bios" directory and type "flash.bat"
14. Let flash and restart
That was it for me
best regards

thx Phila-delphia for your detailed description but i have the 2017 model (KabyLake) of the Laptop and its another BIOS as for the 2016 model.( https://www.mysn.de/secure/userarea...1070_P707_1060_1070_2017_BIOS_1.05.02_XMG.zip)(no Flash.bat) in the BIOS.zip as i described...
so i cant use your fine manual for the BIOS Flash - only for the EC Flash... -
Apologies if these questions come up alot. I've been away a while and you know how quickly this thread can grow!
Do we have a Prema bios yet?
Is there a consensus on the best EC/BIOS update for a 650RS-G?
Would you recommend using John@Obsidian's tool to do the updating?
Thank you! -
hmm sadly the BIOS & EC update doesnt fix my real problem:
i always get a BSOD: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED caused by nvlddmkm.sys
Bluescreenview (Bug check Code: 0x1000007e) doesnt show up more information and in Windows EventLoger i also found nothing useful....
every time i start the Laptop in hybrid-mode and after the GTX 1070 is used by a app it crashes - if i activate dedicated alone (1070) in BIOS its not crashing.
i tried using different Nvidia Drivers (also intalling without Geforce Exp.) , Intel HD Drivers, fresh new Win 10 install, BIOS update but nothing seems to fix the Problem.
any other tips? -
Does anyone have a video guide for repasting the P650RS-G?
I'm trying to get my temps abbot lower and don't want to screw something up. I know it's 2 lines on the GPU and 1 line on the CPU.

It's true that generally the paste between the top few don't make a huge difference.
I would advise not pre-spreading it though. -

Hey guys. Something is off with my Obsidian unit. I'm getting about 35-60fps (unstable) with most games, even games from 3-4 years ago. I guess something must be wrong in the nvidia panel or drivers or anything. Any idea? Last game I've been playing (Lords of the fallen) runs at about 45-55fps all maxed 1080p with some noticeable fps drops here and there. Any ideas of what could I do to get it properly working?

2. What temps are you getting?
3. Are you running discrete or hybrid?
3.1 If you are running hybrid, enable the usage of the dedicated card in the nvidia vontrol panel for your games
3.2 If you are running discrete, adjust "power settings" in the nvidia control Panel from adaptive to Maximum Perfromance.
This are the very first things I`recommend you to check.
Best regards

Just ran this command in elevated cmd:Code:powercfg -h off

1. Power plan is high performance in windos and performance in CCC (as it's always been, I haven't touched it)
2. Temps are low to mid 70s with witcher 3, surprisingly lords of the fallen makes my gpu get hotter (78ºC) without ever going over 80% usage, I guess it's a matter of the game itself
3. I'm running discrete, currently adaptive, I'll do some tests with maximum performance and post back, but the fan is just too loud to keep it all the time. Is there any real advantage in performance?
What's more weird about it, is that older games like Arkham CIty, Arkham Origins or Risen 2, which never get my gpu over 50% load, have massive framerate problems, normally hovering between 30 and 45, with unplayable fps drops were everything gets kind of slow mode for 2-3 secs. I don't really get why if the gpu (or cpu) are running quite light -

Use intel XTU and GPUz/MSI afterburner to tell you the performance cap/throttle reasons.

Alright so I figured a few things out for myself.
The audio driver failing to install problem that I've been having was fixed by turning off the driver signature requirement through windows. After turning that off I was able to install the audio driver no problem and it works great, the driver signature requirement turns itself back on after a few reboots.
I re-pasted my cpu with grizzly kryonaut and noticed about the same idle temps as before (around 38-45C) but temps under load haven't gone above 75C while running Aida64.
I also kept having a crashing/freezing thing that would happen while either restarting or shutting down (though it didn't always happen). I turned off Fast Start/Fast Boot (or whatever it's called) and so far I haven't had a problem. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You can add throttle reasons to the XTU graphs and the MSI graphs list them further down.

Haven't received any email or tracking information, or even any information as to how/if the technician fixed the issue.
All in all, a lengthy and frustrating RMA process by HIDevolution, basically I was the one who had to ask for updates, instead of the company giving me timely updates. On top of that, I didn't get any information worth anything.TomJGX likes this. -
It would be worth making a thread about your experience with Hide in the Clevo reseller feedback thread..
