I have a crap 10yo office type laptop as a backup, and I just did a repaste on the CPU. Temps went down 5 Celsius, but you have to consider the age of the laptop and the fact that the paste applied 10 years ago was probably utter rubish. So repasting every 3 or 6 months seems a bit lame.

3-6 months is overkill unless there is an underlying issue.

    Hi all,

just a quick question and I'm not sure of the consequences. Can undervolting be the cause of my computer hard crashing? I have the latest BIOS and drivers as well as windows updates.

I've been trying to diagnose my computer hard freezing, and I just realized that the one thing I haven't really changed is my undervolt.

I used to be at -150, -100 and I've had crashing. I've just realized I've never really tried stock at 0.

I will be doing some testing but I just wanted to see if undervolting too much can screw up my computer(by crashing during games).

    Thank you :D

I have kept my p650rs with 6700hq and 1070 at -125 undervolt since I got it in 2016, and I have never had any crashing issues (I think) related to the undervolt. The only time I have ever encountered BSOD was last year when I updated the Fall Creator's Update, which I think may have actually been related to a Synaptics driver.

I would think you would be okay at a -100 uv, since most of the posters in this thread have indicated stability at -100 and above (below, I guess). Maybe there was one guy who had to get it down to -70s for stability, but that may have been another thread, can't remember.

Sigh, looks like the undervolt is not the problem... I really thought it would fix things.

Crashed about an hour into a path of exile session feelsbadman. Starting to think this is a hardware problem now.

    @XMG
    Hello,
Sorry to bother you XMG, but can I flash this on my XMG 507 2017 with the 7700hq, at least the EC only as the fans are horrible. Thanks

Edit: on your mysn drivers site there are two 507, one is 2017 (doesnt have TR in the end) the other is regular, that latest EC from 2017 folder is already flashed and the GPU fan is always on high speed unless its custom profile, and other erratic behavior like others described (awkward fan table) But I realize from paleko website that both seem interchangable? I'm afraid of screwing up.

How are bioses with meltdown/spectre-fixes coming along?

A problem I have is that I get error everytime I connect a usb-unit. I cant get my phone connected, not my cardreader etc. Nothing has worked since creators fall. Its really annoying.

You can try a repair install keeping all files and apps. That's pretty non invasive.

I have noticed that a lot of people started having BSODs or the system is not that stable anymore.

I also have this issue now. It started, i think, like a month ago for me. Everything was OK before.

So my issue is that when i boot my laptop it works OK, then when i login into the system it reboots immediately.
It may do this several times. Then it works OK - i can play games and do everything - it will be OK.
In events it only shows like unexpected reboot (Kernel Power 41).
Not sure what is causing it and how to resolve this issue.

Other issue is that in events i have something like below all over the place
The speed of processor 7 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 61 seconds since the last report.

And the final issue is that temperatures are much higher now. Playing AC:Origins i have 100 C for CPU, and around 90 C for GPU. I know that the game is very demanding on both CPU and GPU - but this is too much.

I do use undervolt for both CPU and GPU - but the temperatures are still not that good.
I will try to clean the dust and repaste (i did a repaste before, when i had issues - and it helped a lot).
I am not sure that repasting every 6 -12 months is a good idea - but for some reason this laptop demands it.

I'm trying to use headphones with a built in microphone. Unfortunately I haven't found a way to use the microphone (the headphones work fine). I've used these same headphones and microphone with my cellphone without any issues. Any idea how to troubleshoot this?

    Thanks!

I think you can select headphone/mic combo in Soundblaster.

Arrgh, SBX is disabled as I updated the Realtek driver. However, before the update I couldn't find an option in SBX that enabled the headphone microphone...

    I've fairly sure the P600s don't have 3-ring jacks (ie combo headphone/mic port). You'll need to grab a 3-ring -> 2-ring Y cable like this:
    https://www.amazon.com/Kingtop-Head...d=1521597553&sr=8-3&keywords=headset+splitter

Most headsets which use a single plug will actually come with that adapter.

Yes it's not 3 ring, an adaptor is required.

I have installed new drivers for GPU, cleaned dust inside - and now have 75 - 80 C when playing AC: Origins, that is a very good and acceptable.

    Reboots during login still occur.

Thanks guys! When I read the "2-in-1" description for this port I thought they meant headphone/microphone, but I realize now the "+" is for S/PDIF to support 5.1. I guess you can't have everything =P

Recently, my P650RS (Aftershock S-15) had problems booting up.

BTW, thanks to this forum, I have solved the SynTP.sys problem several months ago.

Now, when I start the unit from cold boot (such as powered down for 6 hours), the BIOS screen appears, screen shuts down, reboots, and continues to Windows. I get a kernel-power event logged in the Event Viewer (SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION) caused by the Nvidia driver.

When I restart my pc or shut it down and power it up again after a short time, the problem does not occur.

Sometimes, the "hidden restart" problem does not happen but Windows starts up with the GTX1070 disabled in device manager ("Windows has disabled the device because it has errors"). Restarting Windows solves the problem.

During intense gaming, there are no problems. However, if I update the driver to the latest, the computer BSODs at the start of the game. (VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE). Rolling back the driver to the one provided by the manufacturer solves the issue.

During intense gaming or normal, prolonged usage, the system appears to run normally.

I have contacted the manufacturer and they suggested that I send the unit to them for motherboard replacement. However, I'm curious if anyone else had this problem before. Any suggestions?

Hi i only have cold boot problem. It started after one of windows updates (why i have allowed this crap to update...). Unfortunately the windows rollback is useless so i'm waiting for another update or i will reinstall W10 curse...

What kind of cold boot issue are you having, the same as what I described?

I am preparing to reinstall Win10 completely. I will post whatever the result may be. The company advised me to return the unit for hardware repair (of course, if the problem is not solved by reinstalling Win10 and the drivers), which is nice. (unit still under warranty)

Hey guys i just purchased this in the Form of a Medion Erazer x7849. I got a decent price £900 for the 1070 6700 and 32gb ram model.

Question is do you guys have anything recommended tweaks/software etc Like undervolting amounts

Or is there a Prema bios i can obtain without having to send it to retailer because that would be a pain.

Laptop is enroute and its a nice upgrade from my clevo w370st

    1. Find and use OBSIDIAN_TOOLS - it will update all your drivers to the latest versions. It will also install "fixed" Clevo Control Panel.
    2. Undervolt CPU by 100 - 200 mV. Use Throttlestop for this.
    3. "Undervolt" your GPU. There are instructions how to do it using MSI Afterburner.
    4. Use Adaptive Power Management Mode (or maximum performance) in Nvidia Control Panel.

Thanks thats everything mainly will be nice to have a Clevo Control Panel and Audio software that fully supports windows 10 (w370st didnt lul)

Now I need to find out how to get a nice Prema Bios (without sending this to a reseller) and/or the latest bio in general.

Like I said laptops on the way in post still got a a few days at worst because of bank holiday.

Ordered some CLU and Proper electrical tape etc. I want some solid temp drops in this since the w370st was warm over the year with repasting so i want it more consistent for the 1070

Update just to save time (while bank holiday posts happening). Anyone got the latest Bios/EC or even better the Latest Prema Bios/EC for the 1070 6700 17" Model. There is no retailer nearby me that could flash it and his new website is pretty lacking *just a twitter link*

I know there is one but it seems at this rate im gonna need to find some reseller or a nice person to DM me to try and obtain it. Thats if @Prema Cant hook me up. Hes on holiday i think

On a side note a noticed something different. The medion Erazer model of this laptop doesnt seem to have a fingerprint reader in favour of touchpad and backpanel leds.

I cant confirm fully if its limited to this or some 17 inch models dont have it in general

Ok my laptop was sent to Germany (Clevo Europe service center). It looks like GPU was dying (it has died 3 days ago).
For BIOS and EC versions i don't remember them correctly. Will post later.

Looks like i have a similar issue. Started several months ago as it started having problems during cold boot - it may reboot during cold boot several times - then after the boot everything worked OK. Now i have another issue - when i try to launch a game - it will open menu of the game OK, then when game starts it will reboot immediately or in several seconds. It can do this 4-5 times and then it will work OK and i can play as long as i can. And in Windows events only something like unexpected power loss and nothing else.

Also i noticed another issue - i am using external hard drive and it stopped working on one of the USB ports. I connected it to another one and it works OK...

The VRM is under stress when changing GPU power states, it could be a weakness with the passives like the capacitors you are hotting. Speak to your reseller.

Okay so I've been facing this issue lately that has been pissing me off big time. I've been working on some game dev projects for my Masters on Unreal Engine and what I normally do is save my work and leave the Unreal Engine editor open (minimized) and put my system to sleep and call it a day. When I open up the laptop after a while or the next day, the screen comes on with a black background and the power button remains lit but nothing happens, so I have to hard reset the system which basically crashes any program that was open before I put it to sleep. Thank God everything has a save feature otherwise, I would've pulled out most of my hair by now, given the amount of time and effort I've been putting into my work (graduation's just around the corner) and the frequency of the crashes.

Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? If yes, were you able to fix it? Why exactly does this **** happen?

I had this too. You can check if it occur only in dGPU or MSHybrid? If in dGPU then maybe your GPU is slowly failing too. Try to install older Intel iGPU drivers too if in MSHybrid because the newest Intel drivers sux.

Usually it's a driver or firmware issue. Try making sure of the usual BIOS/Driver updates.

I've got BIOS version 1.05.04, that's the one and only time I updated the BIOS back in 2016. Haven't touched it ever since. Also, HIDEvolution said they would provide me with a Prema BIOS sometime later but unfortunately that day never came.

I reached out to @Zoltan@HIDevolution and he mentioned that the latest BIOS available for my system is 1.05.07, but it would be a better idea to pinpoint software/driver conflicts to see if that's causing any trouble. Also, the Windows Sleep function is kinda finicky, which may be the reason why things get messed up. I'll have to put all experimentation on hold since I graduate in a couple weeks and I don't want my system to go down right before my Master's project demo haha. Thanks for your inputs guys.

As always, your help is deeply appreciated!

It is best to shut down if you can and start back up, with a modern SSD it should be pretty quick.

    Hello guys,

Last year I bought a Clevo P651RSG with GTX 1070.
Since a few days, I got blackscreen when playing certain games and the TDR error.
Any suggestions on what should I do? I already did a Windows reinstall

Check your temperatures. You can try to clean dust inside and to see if it helps.
Also you can try to down-clock your GPU a little bit to see if that helps.

Could be the GPU having issues, are you able to reliably repeat it?

Yes, I tested with different drivers, but I think the GPU is dying.
Before I give up I will try to update the BIOS. Which BIOS version from the XMG site would be good for my laptop:
    XMG_P507_P707
    or
    XMG_P507_P707_2017?

I got it second hand so I don't know. Is there a way to check?
