Are these settings in the BIOS?

Guys, does any one know if it is possible to unlock the voltage on the GTX 1070? I have tried afterburner and NVidia inspector.
-
-125mV with TS on the cpu yes, I haven't thought about doing it in the gpu
Interesting, do you know what's the performance difference between those modes? Have you tried benchmarking the same thing on both to see the difference? I'd do unigine on both profiles, but I don't want to mess up with profiles now that everything works great.
I remembered that before staying all the time in performance mode, games and benchs were given inferior results (and temps) with entertainment mode -

No, but CPU speeds and TDP levels can be capped independently of other settings. -
Here's the latest Nvidia driver from Clevo.

So I think what @Phoenix and @Papusan were trying to say is that CCC messes with the fan tables and that resetting required uninstalling CCC, reflashing nvram and possibly an OS reinstall. I believe I got away with just uninstalling CCC and possibly reflashing nvram also helped.
I'm going to run a few performance tests when I get a chance to see if I can figure out what's going on.
EDIT: actually I just got onscreen display to work so I can track a little easier. It looks to me like my GPU temps are climibing high. There were going up to 83C which I hadn't seen. I think I may try keeping CCC installed and reflashing the nvram. May so long as I don't select a different performance mode it won't mess with the fan tables...Last edited: Nov 13, 2016 -

it's not reflashing bro. it's an NVRAM reset. -
FredSRichardson Notebook Groundsloth
I think it is the same as flashing - just the code comes from on board instead of an external file. -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
yes if you reflash the same BIOS or a new one, it's equivalent to an NVRAM reset as well. -
I do not see a new touchpad driver on official clevo site ? Where did you get this ?
-
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
only download a touchpad driver if it's listed on your laptop's driver page. I found out the hard way that simply installing a newer Synaptics touchpad driver just because it's newer causes glitches like random non responsiveness from the touchpad.Papusan likes this. -
Sweet. Thanks!

For what model?
-
So, you mean that if the new touchpad driver is listed on P65XRP6 driver page and not on P65XRS, it is for a reason. And, it is better to keep the old one ?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes the different profiles actually have different automatic fan profiles IIRC.
-
I have a question : how to perform a nvram reset ?
What is the best profile for gaming ? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Performance is, it will provide the best clocks.

@Meaker@Sager @Donald@HIDevolution @Phoenix @Papusan
Here's what I found for my unit. Having CCC installed and clicking on for example "performance" caused my GPU temps to go throught he roof - like 83C. Click on "Entertrainment" in CCC (the default) and performing an nvram reset lowered temps back down to 65C. Frame rate 27-30 in Witcher 3 in either case on Ultra Settings (4K display). Same as before with the same lower temps as before.
So yeah, CCC does something detrimental unless you don't touch the perfomance buttons. Unless discrete mode was the problem, because the nvram reset also put me back into MSHYBRID mode.
If this keeps up, I'll pitch CCC again. -
I always use high performance in Win power plan. Power saving, balanced or other crippled OEM/ own created power plan only gains lower temp in idle mode. Why mess with other power settings? If you need lower power draw or lower processor temp on the go, rather use ThrottleStop. There can you make 4 power profiles and use each of them with a simple key command on the fly

I agree! I definitely don't want CCC for this kind of thing.
Frankly I'd love to remove everything from CCC except FlexiKey and maybe those switches for MSHYBRID, the camera and the touchpad. Can I toggle those from the keyboard if CCC is not installed?
I may try just manually removing eveything but FlexiKey. That behave like a separate application anyway. -
How was the performance using Balance Profile? If you do a benchmark, will it yield the same score with Performance Profile? Speeds also reaching max clocks? If it's not too much to ask, can you compare the scores/temps between the 2 profiles with your benchmarks? Thanks!

- Disconnect AC adapter (leave system battery installed)
- Take out the keyboard and leave it face down on palm rest, ribbon cables still connected
- Disconnect CMOS battery and leave it out about 30 seconds
- Reinsert CMOS battery (if you have a USB keyboard, use that for now instead of the laptop keyboard)
- Connect AC adapter and power on again
- Wait up to 3 minutes. If nothing happens on your screen, power off using the power button and power on again, then wait up to a few minutes
- If the machine begins powering off and on again in a loop, power off and on again manually
- (UEFI has to identify the RAM, find and set the timings, etc. so be patient)
- Once the UEFI Reset warnings appear (smaller blue boxes) on your screen hit Enter 3x and start spamming F2 immediately
- Enter Setup and adjust everything the way you want it to be
- Put the keyboard and bottom cover back on again once everything is working the way you want it to

When you are on the entertainment plan, it switches the power profile to Balanced, which means, your CPU runs at the lower possible clock speed until there is demand. That isn't a fix. That's just due to the fact that your CPU is operating at minimal clock speed.Papusan likes this. -

To be honest with you I've given up. I heard my fans doing a cyclical gasping sound I really didn't like.
From what I've seen, CCC with or without XTU is a problem. I saw temps go through the roof doing anything with it. This is not with the recent Nov2016 version but the older one.
I copied the HotKey directory, uninstalled CCC and did an nvram reset. I prefer to use throttle stop anyway.
The only app I found useful was FlexiKey. Unfortunately I don't know a way just to install that. -
FredSRichardson Notebook Groundsloth
Well, it was the GPU I saw overheating. And that was after I switched back from performance to entertainment.
From what I've seen, CCC really messes things up. I noticed that was the one thing the folks at HIDevolution did not install was CCC... I'm guessing this is why.
EDIT: Yep - I uninstalled CCC, reset the nvram, and things are running much better. GPU temp stays below 68C and CPU below 65C. I am running in performance mode via windows power settings and nvidia control panel.
EDIT2: HOWTO reset nvram: shutdown, hold Fn + D + power-button and tap power button while holding Fn + D until restart. You should see a (tiny if 4K) DOS style screen in the center warning that you are about to reset the nvram. Hit return and a second screen comes up. Hit return again and you should boot with reset nvram.Last edited: Nov 13, 2016ace_bandage, Hanamichi23, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -

So, for anyone that didn't catch that - if you have temp issues try uninstalling CCC altogether and resetting the nvram.
-
I would like to sumarize what I understand from CCC impact, bases on forum informations and Clevo manual
If I change from "entertainment" to "performance", in ICC, it will change :
1) The fan tables
2) The windows power plan
3) The power plan conservation (what is it ? Part of windows power plan ?)
And if you have temp issues, is it not possible to increase the fan speed (as advise in Clevo manual ?)
Thanks in advance !!! -
FredSRichardson Notebook Groundsloth
Well, there's what it supposed to do and what it actually does. I'll I can say is that my GPU temps went from max of 70C to a max of 88C after installing CCC and switching from Entertainment to Performance and back.
Uninstalling and resetting nvram fixed the problem.
I think I will follow @Phoenix and @Papusan advice and not try to use CCC as it is clearly bugged.

An other solution is to install CCC and leave it in "entertainment". If I understand correctly, it will not affect the performance of the laptop. You remove XTU and you only use Throttlestop to undervolting the CPU, CPU cache and iGPU. If you want low temps while playing game, you can choose "Overclocking preset" for the fan speed in CCC
-
can someone post a quick guide on how to use Throttlestop? I just want to set a moderate decrease in voltage, I don't have a temperature issue although I did upgrade CCC (I removed the xtu folder as someone suggested a couple of pages back).
-
Better yet, can someone already make a guide with ALL the tweaks and fixes and... guides. It will be reeeeeally helpful to consolidate all these in one page and save new owners the trouble of finding themselves. If I only know how...
Edit: Thanks to the guy who posted the mirror to the latest Nvidia driver from Clevo. I don't know how you did it. I've been struggling to download it for days.
-
I have a Clevo P650RP6-G.
I'm using the newest nVidia Drivers from the nVidia Download Page.
Why Not ?Last edited: Nov 14, 2016 -
I have CCC set on performance, as well as any windows and power options. With -125mV I never go above 75C.
Your temps with performance mode are exactly the same as mine were before undervolting. We were comparing temps from different profiles all the time.
I personally prefer performance on CCC, since it runs games better than entertaining. At least on witcher 3, which is my default bench given how stressful it is -
FredSRichardson Notebook Groundsloth
As @Phoenix pointed out, this leaves you in "balanced" mode, so your CPU is running at a lower clock rate - not really a solution. Also, I'm not sure this works without an nvram reset. It's possible that CCC will decide to "verify" settings it thinks should be in place.
As @Papusan pointed out, it's much simpler to use the performance options built in to Windows.
I really wanted the keyboard light control which is about the only remaining useful functionality CCC offers. I played with that for a few days and I'm content to let it go. What @Phoenix and @Papusan said is true - this software really messes up your system.
About the only saving grace is that I don't think we need to do a complete system wipe to recover after using CCC. At l least I hope not. The nvram reset after uninstalling CCC seemed to work.

I have not noticed any strange behavior after installing the old version of CCC that does not include any XTU elements that @Phoenix has linked to. Is there something specific you noticed that leads you to believe it messed with the fan tables? I suppose I don't really use any of the CCC features, so if there is any danger to it I might as well uninstall and do a nvram reset just to be on the safe side.
-
I've been using the 0.72 version of CCC and I haven't noticed any problems yet. The only problem I've had with this laptop is that it BSOD with the SynTP.sys when WIndows installed the wrong Synaptics Touchpad driver.

FredSRichardson Notebook Groundsloth
After uninstalling CCC and switching to Windows and Nvidia performance mode (and nvram reset) my temos are below 70C without undervolting.
With undervolting they should get lower.
By all means feel free to keep using CCC but I do not see any advantage to using it and I see plenty of reasons not to. As others were trying to tell me based on experience with older Clevo models: use throttlestop instead...
Sent from my SM-G900V using TapatalkPapusan likes this. -
So at startup, when the BIOS logo comes on, hold these three buttons together? Will there be a message or anything else/how do I know if it worked? And I assume this will just clear nvram, not flash the original BIOS, right?
-
Yeah for sure, if you get such different temps it makes no sense to use CCC. I'm just curious to know what causes +10C with CCC if it's not faster cpu/gpu or some kind of OC that CCC does. If cpu/gpu clocks were the same in both cases, I can't understand +10C with same fan profiles, clocks... Etc. Where's exactly the bug?
-
I agree with you. Both cases, be in Windows performance mode or balance mode will not affect the performance in game. On one hand, there will be no saving power in idle, on the other hand, in idle, the CPU will have low frequency. But, in both cases, when you will play, for example, you will have exactly the same frequency. I think it is the same with CCC power plan. The only thing which can affect the CPU/GPU temps is the fan speed. It will be interesting to select the maximum speed (Fn + 1) and see if the temps are still high
-
FredSRichardson Notebook Groundsloth
I'm not sure its just the fan tables. My fans were running high with or without CCC, but the temps were very different. I have no insight into what the CCC modes actually do only the impact they had on my system.
Sure, it could be the version I'm using, but I don't think I will trust CCC again. I wouldn't mind getting a copy of the keyboard app to play with the keyboard lights, but that is all I would want anyway. As others told me, there really isn't any other useful feature CCC offers that other tools don't handle better.
Only the developers of CCC can answer that question. I've only seen the symptoms and seen them enough never to want to use CCC again. I believe it tries to do more than it should. Other tools like throttlestop are better.
Feel free to experiment with CCC more
I certainly won't. My experimenting lead ultimately to disaster - high temps and some stability issues. I'm not going to mess with it again.

I know this sounds ridiculous but since i uninstalled CCC ive lost my wifi adaptor. no missing driver to install, just no mention of the device and no settings in bios either using an Intel 8260. tried the driver from intel but no luck. anyone have any ideas?

Try pressing the button on the keyboard that turns the wifi adaptor on/off. That's my only idea for what may have happened.

ensure you are not in airplane mode. click on the wifi icon in the bottom right and toggle the airplane on/off

This is a terrible answer. But when I swapped to the nvidia download page driver v375 I saw a small drop on benchmark performance. Small meaning ~250 points in 3dmark fire strike with my 1060. Ran it 3 times and kept adjusting settings to get performance. I uninstalled and went to clevos newest driver v369 and my benchmark score was higher/like stock.

Is this a normal amount of back light bleed? Its the 4k PLS screen for the p650rs. I always use a black background and that kinda thing stands out really bad to me. Just awful, really. Do AHVA screens have the same problem?
Ps. I messed around with the exposure on the camera so it looks more realistic. But it still came out a little over exposed.
