I don't think it has to be. Some at least were fairly poor TN. Usually companies advertise IPS. The NP8151 for example, not sure if that's IPS but I would guess no.

@Meaker@Sager can correct. If it's IPS idk why it isn't listed.

I'd figure so as well. The reason I asked is at GenTechPC, is shows the non-Gsync models as having " 15.6" 1920x1080 PLS LED Matte-Type @60Hz (Anti-Glare)". PLS is just the Samsung version of IPS. However, they're the only reseller that mentions this, all the others just say 1080p matte.

Just a mobility usage case update. I traveled with my P650RS-G for the first time and it worked out very well.

In-flight gaming for a few hours was possible with these:

Does anyone have this weird thing with USBs, when you hot swap (for instance logitech wireless adapter with xbox wireless adapter or external hard drive, in my case) all USBs stop working until reboot. And windows is getting stuck on "restarting" process, until you do forced shut down, by holding power button down for 5-10 secs. Or does anyone have any similar issues with USBs at all? P650rs. I never did and not going to do secure removal and I believe it is not the case. Thanks

I played GTA V for 10 hours straight while connected to a 4K TV and graphics set to the highest at 4K, DirectX10 with an undervolt of 125mV and I'm happy to report that the GPU temps hovered around the 75C mark while constantly delivering 60FPS with the fans set to max. Don't know if I should continue doing it but it sure runs gooooood.

Hope this doesn't shorten system life.

(And that's how I spent the first day of the new year)

75C doesn't sound bad to me. I see temps in the low or mid 70s quite often.

I happen to have those same 3 items (xbox wireless adapter, external hard drive and logitech wireless unifying adapter). Just tried some hot swapping between the 3 on a left usb port and had no issues (P670RS).

It might be worth requesting the latest firmware from your reseller to see if that resolves the issue.

Hi guys, I tried fixing the Synaptic driver but I don't know if it worked. As of now, the biggest problem I have with this laptop is that it keeps turning off the monitor every few minutes ( a glance at event viewer revealed that it is a driver crashing repeatedly), but after doing tons of research and trying every fix possible ( including modifying the registry to add a tdrp delay and wiping my ssd and hard drive twice), the problem still persists (even on a clean reinstall of windows with factory drivers). Should I just RMA at this point since I can't play any games, watch Youtube, or even browse Facebook without the display flickering on and off every minute? Also on a clean install of windows, I've gotten 5 blue screens already today, and that's in less than 3 hours.

Have you looked at your temps? It's possibly a hardware issue. I had similar symptoms with a dying GPU.

I looked at my temps again and the are low to mid 60s. However the ambient temp is cooler which may have a big impact.

EDIT: BTW this is under heavy load.

nvm: 5 blue screens in 3 hours sounds really strange, you should really think about RMA

Try undervolting even more. I achieve -189 stable, -190 crashes. That lowered gpu-temp a bit more :)

How does one boot into the BIOS with the P650RS (Eurocom, if that makes a a difference)?. I tried pressing F2 while booting but it doesn't do anything. My touchpad sometimes makes my cursos go in a straight line without stopping, is there a fix for that?

Are you sure it's not F2? Try holding it down instead of mashing or tapping it once.

Oh, Windows 10 had Fast Boot on by default (never had that happen to me before). It is indeed F2. Now I just need to figure out why my touchpad is behaving erratically, and how to make the laptop pick the right LED colors before booting into Windows, if that's even possible.

Anyone knows why my CPU overclock isn't showing when I stress test? At idle, HWInfo will show 4.1GHz, but as soon as I start OCCT it drops to 3.3GHz.

I've set PL1 and PL2 to 100000 (100W) in the BIOS, with the timing to 1 second, and it still stays at 3.3GHz as soon as I put it under max load.

Use Throttlestop for overclocking. It is possible Current limits aka Amp are too low. I do not know what is possible in your bios but here we go http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/the-throttlestop-guide.531329/ See in @unclewebb's sig

Could you let us know how it goes? I have the exact same issue maybe. I am unable to overclock at all at base voltages and must use a -145mV offset to get a +300MHz boost at best (3.5GHz max core speed). The current limit may be the problem after all, but I was thinking I just got a bad apple (6820HK)

As near I can tell, I this throttling happens because of EDP on the Core and the Ring, and the fix would be an EC mod? So I need Prema's mod to get any OC at all out of the thing o_O

Update for you guys. As many know I was having temps a bit higher that some others here, getting high 80s and even 90 with witcher 3. At one point I sent it over to Obsidian-PC so they could check and see.

They changed the thermals again and worked around TS among others (they can explain better than myself if you wanna know).

Now my temps top at 73C playing witcher 3 all maxed with max fan (78C on auto), and even mid 60s in many parts of the game (Velen). I have -125mV

They did such a great job on my laptop. If you have temp problems you can also try to use kryonaut like they did. Users with metal paste reported even slightly better temps, but I think low 70s is already awesome to not bother with more complex pastes for just a couple of degrees

That's great news! If you do care about an extra couple of degrees you could try to undervolt further. I have had it at -185mV for a couple of months now with no problems, but of course ymmv.

A 100mV undervolt made the clock go to 3.4GHz rather than 3.3GHz.

Wow this makes me jealous. My current Sager 8153 w/ gtx 1070 is driving me insane. I have repasted like 4 times and my temps are horrible idle. The GPU fans are running constantly and it is holding at about 50 degree. CPU 41 degrees. I am using Artic MX-4. Am I pasting horribly or whats going on? House is 67 degrees. I can't take the fan running 24/7.

Is this with CCC installed? If so try unistalling + nvram reset. My P670RS with 6700HQ idles at 40° GPU / 34° CPU (-175 mV, IC Diamond) without CCC, but after installing CCC (using the XTU=0 trick) it goes to around 48° GPU / 41° CPU.

    Automatic Fans:
My idle temps are now 31° CPU / 39° GPU (winter conditions) Discrete on, CCC installed, Automatic Fans are silent while idling).

    Custom Fans (50/60, Default Setup):
With custom fans (Fans off basically) i get ~41° CPU / 50° GPU. So i usually use custom fans for anything execpt hardcore demanding games like Arma III or similar.
Even after some gaming, the GPU cools down to 50° and the fans stop spinning.
I applied a thin layer of Kryonaut on both sides of the cooler. With the recent changes to the Path of Exile Engine i can run this game in silent mode (custom fans).

This Notebook still needs Improvements via EC/Bios Updates tho. Fan Profiles are still BAD/Broken/too agressive. Flexi not working, Buggy secondary Monitor behaviour (i still wait for an fixed XMG Bios, like the logo)
Fans are bad and noisy compared to my Dell Notebook with metal fans. And the ticking while the fans doesnt spin sucks too. Imo Fans are the weakest spot here but i love the machine.

Cambonius you should check if something pings your GPU and replace your ****ty Paste. Your temps are too high.

What's the current BIOS and EC versions?

I currently sit around 39-41C CPU at idle and about 78C max load and GPU is about 35C idle and 70C full load. This is with ccc and auto fans.

I wouldn't use ccc if there was another way to turn off the keyboard lights but as far as I know there isn't.

    My temps:

Clevo with gtx 1060 from polish distributor:

GPU while playing most demanding games like witcher 3 = max 62 degrees
CPU around 70 and jumping from 50 to 75.

I am running with auto fans and with cooler pad :)

Idle temps with discrete are 30 gpu, 25-30 cpu.

20,5 degrees ambient temperature (room temperature)

Thanks for the replies! I tried uninstalling CCC to no avail, I'll reinstall today. my BIOS shows 1.05.06, EC firmware (not sure if this is the number you guys asked) is 1.05.03? How do you reset the vram? Done it on my Mac never on PC laptop. I was originally getting really high CPU (~99 degrees) and repasted and that resolved but now the GPU idle heat and fan issues are just a mess. I did order some Gelid today so I will re paste over the weekend with that.

I actually have the model with 120hz as well as the 60hz IPS. Luckily I have a screen calibrator to help the awful blue color on the 120hz, but overall it's been a little ugly to look at after having the IPS. It does make the games tons smoother of course, and it makes the most sense with the GTX 1070, but it's not a pretty display. TN with poor color. It's actually been RMA'd as there was a lot of color distortion around the edges which completely ruined dark scenes etc. when I get it back maybe I'll be more impressed and will let you know. Fluidity of games is excellent, at the cost of poor color and black level. It's a toss up, IPS looks tons better but 120hz is obviously a lot smoother and necessary if you are a rocket league junky like me lol.

Hey folks, my Prostar variant of the P650RS-G, 24 days into use, but I started having a weird problem recently.
When my machine goes to Hibernate, and I hit the power button, then start a game, the fans make a weird noise, like one of the fans has gone bad.
But when I do a shutdown and power off the machine, and power on and start a game, fans run fine like they have been.

Do I need CCC, would it be better to remove CCC app, nvram reset?

    Thanks.

One of the things that I found affects the fan speed a lot is setting power consumption to "performance" in nVidia Control Panel. This forces the dGPU to draw full power at all times and causes higher temperatures and therefore more fan noise. Setting this to "adaptive" instead has made my computer a lot quieter and cooler when not playing games.

Darn. I am a silly stupid fool. I always wondered how my GPU temps an fan profile was SOOO bad. Until I realized two things:

    - I had GPU Overclock on in CCC - which is stupid as I OC/UV with Afterburner.
    - There are some programs like GOG galaxy that force the GPU to run in 3D mode, which results in higher temps -> fans.

All the best to you guys! I am happy with my new idel temps now ^^

Well so far resetting the VRAM and changing Nvidia control panel settings to adaptive shut the fan right up. No longer acting like there is a game on in the background. Hoping it sticks. Now do I reinstall CCC from sagernotebooks website again or leave it uninstalled? I think I'll still repaste once I get the Gelid as no one seems to use the Artic MX-4. I would like to know if my BIOS is outdated though. May have to email XOTICPC? Thanks for the help this relieved some stress for now!!
