You can always use Gelid GC Extreme.. quite easy to get here in the UK.. It doesn't do all the scratching nonsence of ICD... Don't use Liquid Ultra... It's very dangerous and will definetly void your warranty!

    @Oxford_Guy

I agree with @TomJGX ...Gelid extreme is the best thermal paste out there if you don't want to touch liquid metal.

I did say Liquid Ultra, and I do use it. But only on my CPU, for now. I am using stock applications of IC Diamond on my GPUs, until I get a pair of 980M heatsinks (which surpass the 780M models) for my machine. When I get these (ironically they're coming in approximately 5 minutes; I just got called while typing this) I just got these before I finished typing this post, so I'll be fixing this up either tonight or this weekend. I'll be using CLU on the GPUs when I do.

Yes, if you get some on the wrong place it is dangerous, but you could honestly just be careful with it. It doesn't run or drip too much (in my experience) so applying is the least of your worries. If it really bugs you, you can cover everything with a dry cloth while working on the CPU/Heatsink so nothing has a chance of getting some on it.

A foil tape mod is where you use foil tape to block parts where air from the fan can escape directly blowing on the heatsink. The 880M and 980M heatsinks usually have something like this installed from the get-go, but the 780M ones did not. I used it on my CPU to decent effect; but another user used it on his and got worse temps. I could have seen mine was fairly badly aligned though, so mileage may vary. It looks like this:

For CLU worried, I can vouch for it. If you use something to "paint" your die like they suggest in their video, there really is no chance of spill. You press the syringe in a pot far from your computer and you paint bit by bit your cpu, that way no liquid can escape.

I pressed it onto my heatsink, painted the heatsink, then used excess from the heatsink & brush to paint my CPU die.

Played some SC2 today and during a cutscene it switched to igpu and never switched back to GPU until I closed the game and restarted it.

What did you use to paint clu lone? I used cotton swab (regular ones, not industrial) and it produces a LOT of fibers... I do not advise it.
Bmac1632, can you set sc2 to work with nvidia got only in nvidia control panel?

I can set it in the control panel but it was working as auto so I left it. I guess I will change it next time.

It was weird. XTU showed the CPU steady at 3.4 and the GPU looked fine so it just switched for no apparent reason.

Can anyone run Unigine Valley on their 970M and tell me temperatures have stabilized after 10-15 minutes ?

Curious since my 860M seems to hover around 72.

My P650SE finally arrived today :) First impression= supurb. Nicely surprised at the finish and the speakers. Keyboard & screen great.

Flex in the screen, but rest of the build is solid.

Clevo's website is giving me a courpt ZIP (tried all 3 locations). Is an unspecific error on the Data2 file. Pro-Star's site is a dead link. Where can I download the latest hotkeys (3.09.21)?

So...i may have just ruined my matte screen by using alcohol wipes....now it's full of streaks wich seem to be in the coating itself.

    Anyome else encounter this?

The ole chemical on a display fudge up. Don't use chemicals on any displays these days as a lot of them have some kind of coating.

First try dry microfiber then a lightly damp microfiber if you have a spot or something that won't wipe. Worst case scenario about a 50/50 mixture of water and alcohol. Avoid wipes unless there specifically made for displays but I still avoid them. I use above method.

Well the wipes are made for laptop screens and they are isopropyl alcohol based....it's not very bad...it's only visible when the screen is off and light shining directly on it.

When the screen is on there's absolutely no problem like discoloration/marring.

It's only annoying because I know it's there.

Sounds like too muc alcohol on wipes and cmbo of dirty screen. Wipe screen dry first to get rid of whatever crud you got first.

My highest score yet at FireStrike with P650SE : http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/6134931?
I attached my values down below. I'm on single channel now, and hope to reach the 10k mark once I get my second RAM stick because I read that these benchmarks are effected by the channel type alot. No undervolting in CPU done yet, once I reach my final stable values, I will post them here.

BTW, I have a question: How can I allow my laptop to charge my phone while in sleep mode? I tried unchecking the power saving option at the device manager menu, but it didn't help. So what should I do? Are there any drivers I should install to enable this or any BIOS options to enable? Thanks in advance :)

That did nothing special :D Actually I got it partly working now without the FN+power or bios or device manager. When I leave the phone connected and put to sleep, the phone shows charging, but if I disconnect and then connect it again it won't charge. So I think that's just the way it is, we have to keep the phone connected and then put the laptop to sleep :D

Right, so far I'm VERY satisfied with my P650SG. I had some initial struggles (getting WiFi to work, required flashing 306 EC thanks for the tip) and such, but now that I have it up and running I must say that I'm impressed. The keyboard feels nice, good feedback, and the mouse buttons also click nicely.

I have disabled the HotKey software as it completely messed up my power plan settings. It was putting my PC in Airplane (!?) mode for no reason at all etc. I also didn't install the Soundblaster bloat and have disabled the fingerprint gimmick.

Do you guys happen to know what the latest version of the Intel HD Graphics 4600 is? Intel Driver Update says something like 15.X.X.X and I have 10.X.X.X installed but I can't imagine my drivers are that old!

Also, how can I configure XTU to load my settings on boot? It says Disabled here by WatchDog:

Sadly that didn't work. It looks like the physical/actual plastic of the button is crooked.
I contacted the seller, they are going to either ship me a new F11 button or a new keyboard. Let's see how this goes

Hey guys new at notebook review
    I have this wonderful P651SE with a 4710HQ from a danish company called mmvision.dk

My P651SE has a problem with cpu freq scaling when using battery. It never goes above 1.45 Ghz, so performance on battery is quite sluggish.

I thought that maybe it was the BIOS from mmvision.dk, so I flashed the prema-mod BIOS and it works just fine, except having the same problem :/

I also tried different power settings, but no help either.

    What can I do here?

    Guys,

I have a big issue., please help. After two weeks of using my laptop (from XMG) I had to send it back for RMA as the touchpad stopped working and the keyboard started stuttering. They had to change the chassis and clean the keyboard connectivity and have received the laptop back from RMA this morning.
Before I had sent the laptop back I had played around 60 hours of dying light of max settings and it never dropped below c. 50 fps. Now it has mini freezes and stutters/drops to 1-5 fps multiple times a minute, average fps is also lower. Game is unplayable.
The only time I had seen this before was when I had forgot to plug the laptop to a wall socket. Now I did check that the laptop is plugged and is on the "high performance" plan. Any idea what could be wrong?
Added to the fact that my fingerprint scanner doesn't work anymore and that the bios image has changed I'm starting to get very pissed at the number of inconveniences I've had with a £2/$3k laptop...

    Config is i7-4720, 980m, 850pro evo.

Thanks a lot for your help.

    Guys,

Following on my problem I've noticed that the EC version is now 1.03.03 (when I sent it to XMG it was 1.03.04). Could that be causing the problem?

    Please someone help.

Just repasted my CPU and GPU and was stupid enough not to check temps on GPU before repaste.

CPU seems to be 1ºC cooler @ max 92º during intel burn test(auto fans, no cooling board)..i used the line method.

GPU i repasted by dot and I have a feeling I applied too litlle...what do you guys think?

My bios hangs for an extra 10-20 seconds now (used to instant). I did recently write an HFS+ partition on my main drive- could that be the cause?

So the new 240W came in... (ordered from Amazon; slim version)

After some thorough testing, I would still get Current Limit Throttling when attempting to run CPU on all 4 cores at 3.4 GHz, but at least it holds 3.1 GHz in applications. As for overclocking GPU, I cannot get it above 200 MHz... I will have to look into that one later again.

Beat my old score in sig at 9374 in Firestrike standard, but I feel like something isn't right and I should be able to break 9400...

EDIT: Checked combined score. Seems like it dropped. http://www.3dmark.com/fs/4254262
