Thanks for letting us know how it is going with the new PSU @LoneSyndal. I myself ordered a 240W, which has yet to arrive, with hopes that it will relieve some of the throttling which I am currently experiencing.

Please keep us updated on your progress :)!

Ok, I just upgraded my RAM, and am running into some CPU temperature issues.

Originally, with the stock 8GB 1600MHz RAM, I was getting CPU temps up to 95C in the XTU stress test.

After a -60mV undervolt and hooking up a cooling pad, the max temperatures dropped to about 82C.

But after upgrading to 16GB 1866MHz Kingston HyperX RAM, my CPU temps are hitting 98C in the XTU stress test, even with the cooling pad and 60mV undervolt.

Does anyone have any idea what to do about this? I'll be repasting the CPU and GPU at some point, but even without a repaste, these temps seem unreasonable.

    Hi all,

Does anyone know how to turn off edge swipe (to access charms) in the touchpad driver? I've searched online and it seems like an older version of the snaptics driver had that option but I cant find it in the version downloaded from mySn.

    Thanks in advance

Hey everyone! Has anyone been able to actually order the 3k display and replace the 1080p one in the SG? that's really my only holdback atm. I'd like to order now and get the 3k display if I find the smaller workspace bothers me enough. I work at 1440p on desktop and also had an mbp 17 prior that I worked on mostly but that had the nicer vertical 1200 which doesn't sound like much but was really useful for coding and photoshop/illustrator work.

Otherwise I may just bite the bullet and get the sharp display.

    Cheers

hey all, I'm about to order an np8652 and I'm wondering if the copper cooling upgrade is worth the $80.. does anyone have any thoughts?
also, nvidia released a thingy the other day that offers a free copy of witched 3 to anyone who buys a notebook "from selected retailers" with a 900 model gpu in it (source: http://videocardz.com/54976/witcher-3-free-with-geforce-gtx-900m-graphics-cards)

does anyone know how to tell if were all eligible due to the exotic pc purchase?

From my understanding sager doesn't offer it. BUT clevo does and a bunch of the clevo dealers offer it as an option ( but I'm going through xotic most likely due to no-branding option). I also have found 2 ebay sellers that carry it, just wanted to know if anyone else found the panel somewhere I haven't seen yet.

You seem to have thermal throttling on the CPU even though the CPU temp appears to be quite low. You can see your processor speed tank during the temp spikes and as thermal throttling spikes.
It also happens in that graph when your CPU util bumps.

What is the final mark? There is a dark blue line that I don't see in your screenshot.

Also, do you have an 850 Evo or an 850 pro? There is no 850pro evo.

Finally, I wonder if they somehow screwed with your thermal throttling limit? You shouldn't throttle under 95 degrees. If you are, I'm sorry but unless you can force throttlestop to work (and keep it on 24/7) you will need to RMA it again as it does indeed look like a BIOS issue.
XTU stress test relies HEAVILY on dual channel RAM, so that could possibly be why it suddenly is worse. But I don't know why such a large difference. The P65xSx models have very poor CPU cooling, but it shouldn't be THAT bad.

The PSU wouldn't change the current limit/TDP limit if your CPU can't change it. All it does is give you more breathing room for your GPU, assuming your GPU is one of those that likes being OCd. Some users' GPUs don't.

Also, combined scores go up or don depending on different drivers, apparently. It's a normal thing.

Does anyone know if we can swap out the keyboard with a different one? I don't necessarily like the look of the keyboard, but it could be remedied by buying a high quality skin like this one - http://www.karas.co.kr/finepia/finepia_han09.htm

One of those skins popped up at my work when someone sold us their mac.
Honestly, it was gross to use. The buttons felt clammy to me and it just removed the satisfying click when you hit the key.
I highly doubt without some intense modding that you could get a different keyboard. If your perticular about the look of the keyboard, theres only one place you should be looking and thats at desktops.

I may be missing something but what is the benefit of going up to the 240w PSU? I have one of these Dell PSUs from getting my AW15 (2015) and still have it since I didn't return the PSU. Will the increased power help the display with reducing ghosting? Will it aid in overclocking?

Also, searching this thread has been laborious so I'm hoping someone has a direct answer. What are the optimal overclocking settings for this laptops CPU/GPU? I'd like to try and boost things a little.

I cant give a link because im on my phone, but scroll up to D2 Ultima's username and look in his signature or whatever at the bottom of all of his messages. Click the link that talks about the i7 processors.
If you scroll down, he has a lot of info on overclocking speecifically the cpu.
There should be info about overclocking the gpu in his vram post thats also in his signature

    Should be possible
As grant said, info about your CPU is available in my guide. Max OC you'll get is 3.6GHz on 4 cores, but no idea if you can sustain that.
Next, max GPU overclock is limited by the GPUs themselves. Some users cannot get +200MHz. Some users can get +400MHz. It's chip-dependent. You might have a good one or a bad one.

Ya I know it's possible to pop in a 3k/4k and I've seen both the panels and cable needed for the change, but I just wish I had a bit more info. Doesn't seem like anyone here upgraded from what I can tell but maybe I missed it. This thread is super long to dig through now. Wanted to order tonight but I may hold off until tomorrow.

Beware, there is a cable soldered on motherboard that determines the screen you can put on the laptop.

From what xoticpc rep told us here at while ago, if you order a fhd laptop, then you will not be able to upgrade the screen, because the cable on the board will not be compatible with 3/4k screens.

Sounds like LVDS vs eDP. Once you find the cable, it should work, but that's assuming the connector is on the board.

I've had my P651SE for a couple of months now. Really happy with the purchase. Just a thing I've been noticing lately.. When I'm playing less demanding games the fans are quiet in the beginning then they spin up to max for a while, then turn off, then do it again and so on... is there any way to controll this? It's kind of annoying. Would be better if the fans were just spinning at a lower speed continously.

Also the prema mod. What's the advantages of upgrading to this bios?

Set your fan tables if you don't want that to happen. If it spins up it's because your heat passed a certain threshold.

    And everything is the advantage.

No I think he means real fan tables, where you can actually truly define fan speeds according to temperature, but I think those are not available with our version of EC /BIOS, but maybe Prema is on his way to unlock it?

Indeed you can run into LVDS vs eDP. I have a 30-pin eDP cable on its way from Sager to install my samsung 1080p IPS panel. Currently have a LVDS LG 1080p panel. There was early talk that some change on the mainboard might be necessary along with the cable change but not thinking it was accurate - soon will find out for myself!
Here is a list of the cables for the respective screen types:
    EDP Screen Cable - 3K (031-1C) - P650Sx 6-43-P6501-031-1C
    EDP Screen Cable - 4K (051-1C) - P650Sx 6-43-P6501-051-1C
    EDP Screen Cable - FHD (041-1C) - P650Sx 6-43-P6501-041-1C
    LVDS Screen Cable - FHD (011-1C) - P650Sx 6-43-P6501-011-1C

Yesterday I spent 4 hours of debugging why my laptop would boot _extremely_ slow, as in 5 minutes (with SSD).
Turns out Malwarebytes Pro and AOMEI Backupper were the cuplrit. Both are not fully compatible with Windows 8.1 and cause problems
Note: Malwarebytes without realtime protection works fine.

    I'm also interested in this

I think what you need is this: http://eddietse.blogspot.dk/2008/03/patching-dsdt-table-for-8510p-to-reduce.html
I used to do these kind of hacks, but lately I don't care since my P651SE really doesn't bother me with the fan.

I don't know if it's possible, but it should be. I might even suspect that the HotKey program is applying a few changes to this at runtime who knows.

Could someone at least give response on whether they have low performance (CPU cap) when running on battery? I got a maximum of 1.45 Wild Ghz on a 4710HQ

I don't think so, my last two laptops (Medion: i7-3630QM and HP: i7-4702HQ) did not cap the CPU at all.
I can understand that the graphics need to be scaled, but the CPU (47W TDP) is not going to damage the battery and definitely not above 1.45Ghz throttling.

check your windows power settings and make sure the cpu utilization on battery is set to 100%.

in general, i dont really recommend using either cpu or gpu at full capacity on battery...

There are some things I would like to solve with the fan though, especially that in personal or auto mode the fan never kicks max speed besides when crossing 95C-ish. As you said, Hotkey updates these tables when running on personalized settings, but I didn't find how yet.

    You mean this right?

I agree with you, but at 1.45 Ghz I am having quite sluggish performance and this seems to be a limitation put somehow in the ACPI section of the BIOS.
Someone wrote they had 1.6 Ghz cap, but that they got a new BIOS which supposedly fixed it.
I've got the Premamod thing on mine and still capped at 1.45.

I think what HotKey might be doing is changing some external default values (Like thresholds that are then used inside the DSDT). It probably doesn't change the file directly, since that requires a reboot. So if someone could get the source code for the HotKey program we could probably do it somewhat easy. :D

forgot to use the multiplier option!
So I think I will set up a manual profile using RMClock or something.
Thank you, I really think this should be fixed on a lower level, like at the BIOS.

If people haven't found a solution to Windows not showing time remaining on the battery, I recommend using Battery Bar or something similar.
It just learns how the battery behaves and gives a good stable estimate :)
It's because the battery is not returning health information very well, so Windows doesn't know anything.

BTW I really think Clevo did a very nice premium quality laptop here, but they seem to have been in a hurry with the battery part (Guess it's just meant to be a an always-corded powerhouse, haha)
Thanks again jaybee83 for the CPU-fix!

Okay new info! It is the freakin' HotKey program from Clevo!!

I noticed (in my eager to set up RMClock on boot) that when Windows is loading, it actually has full power (Around 3.3-3.4 Ghz) BUT suddenly it changed to only 1.45Ghz!

So I disabled HotKey and now I have all the horse power of my 4710HQ on the battery!

So no worry! The BIOS is untouched in terms of throttling!

Disable EIST in the BIOS Mod to run Intel GPU & iGPU on full speed during battery operation. That way HotKey looses control. ;)

I thought that might be it, but I tried them all and it still capped the CPU so I moved on thinking it was not related. I used to use Entertainment, but now it's definitely not worth having the program for me!

If we are talking about EIST as in Speedstep Technology I would rather leave that on! I want throttling when there is no load on the CPU, but I don't want throttling when the OS demands cpu-power.

My only real problem was this 1.45 Ghz limit. It effectively made it faster to browse on my smartphone than on my laptop, which is insane, haha.

It won't run full speed all the time, only the enhanced (E) part will be disabled. ;)

Yeah you're right. I need high performance in both speed and battery, so EIST helps a lot. The only problem was that HotKey misused that function in a quite aggressive way.

Is it worth to change my Artic MX-4 to Gelid Extreme? I asked my dealer to apply Artic MX-4 but my laptop is running really hot in the XTU benchmark and stress test so I think they didn't apply it or did not do it correct.

    Thanks

Speaking of power: does anyone have an answer to what the benefits are of running a 240w PSU vs the stock 120? Somewhere in this epically long thread there was a suggestion of getting an adapter for the Dell 240w to replace the stock Clevo/Sager PSU adapter and I'm unclear as to why.
