Yeah I intend to add more RAM and some HDD later in the future :) 980 goes out of my budget :/ Still I heard that from 970 to 980 it's not that huge difference as there is on 960 to 970 ...

Fully understand and that's what what I guessed. As to differences, you heard right. I believe the difference between the 980M and 970M is something like 20-30%, whereas the 970M is closer to 50% better than the 960M. So like I said, despite the 980M being better, 970M is at a solid, sweet spot price/performance-wise. You'll enjoy it.

Enquire with his manager and the laptop guys 'ASAP' he said. A week ago, this was.

I have a feeling Scan are sitting this one out, twiddling their thumbs, hoping I'll forget.

P.S. Windows 10 Intel drivers work fine.

Thank you for reassuring my research kind friend ! Also, I also read that the keyboard tends to flex a little and that the upper part of the laptop (screen) bounces a little.... That isn't a great problem right?

Got a similar issue. For me, the network drops after an hour or two. Also, I can fix it by disconnecting and reconnecting the Ethernet cord from my laptop. It's an annoying problem. Hopefully a driver update will fix it soon.

EDIT: Just did some googling, and I think I actually have the infamous "No Wi-Fi due to VPN" issue. Granted my wi-fi is fine, but the problem can extend to Ethernet connections as well. Gonna try to fix it through command prompt. If that doesn't work, I will have to resort to clean install.

You're welcome. Under normal stroke weight the keyboard flex is non-existent. If you forcefully push down around the top-row number keys there is minimal flex, nothing of concern. The surface-side of the lid does subtly "bounce" or flex with applied force, but not to the point where it endangers the screen's function or longevity. A non-issue IMO. I always like to say that the P65x's are built solid enough externally and designed very well internally.

Oh thank you man , really !

About the wi-fi , do you think Intel is the right choice? What about the Killer NIC ?

I tried looking through the thread for this answer, but I think nothing has changed: did anyone besides LoneSyndal try a more powerful PSU with this laptop?

    @WinterIsComing
I have the killer card, never had an issue with it after upgrading to EC from stock. Both have similar functionalities, maybe the killer has the upper hand in latency, but I think the Intel one has better driver support (plus cheaper)

Is there a possibility that Intel Skylake will arrive to the Clevo P65xSx by September? Need a laptop in about a month and a half...

I have tried my p650sg with a dell 240w PSU, I'm not really sure if it makes that much of a difference, I personally run into heat issues before power issues with the 180w stock PSU

Just installed Win10 straight from a wIn 7 install. Didn't load any drivers, let windows do it's thing. The display looks a bit hazy...like it does when you're not running the native res. Both the Intel and nVidia drivers seemed to install just fine.

    Any ideas?

    Specs in sig, thanks.

    Howdy!

I'm seriously considering buying a 650SG with the 980M at the moment. The one thing I can't really decide on is the storage option: a/ 512GB Samsung Evo or b/256GB Samsung Evo + 1TB HDD

    Any thoughts?

I'm particularly interested in opinion/experience whether the additional HDD would have an impact on cooling/noise.

    TYVM

Edit: alternatively how tricky would you rate the installation of a second m.2 SSD (if I choose option a/ and decide I need more storage later on)?

I would do the larger SSD now as adding a 1TB later for storage later if needed is easier then upgrading the OS drive.
The HDD should not have any impacts on cooling or noise.
Adding another m.2 is pretty easy. But if you want to then set up a RAID 0 config then its going to take a install of Windows, which of course is going to take more time, but is pretty easy to do (depending on your comfort levels).

I second a larger ssd. I bought a system that has a 128 Pcie and then 500 Sata 3, both M.2. I figure I'll keep mostly system apps on the main drive, all my other programs/games on the second SSD, and then I bought a 1 TB spinner to keep all my media and whatnot. I'm excited for the combo .

Will a low power power adapter damage the 8652 if I'm not gaming and keep it on say a power saver profile, provided the voltage is sufficient?

So long as you force the GPU to never power on (select IGP only) you can get away with a smaller adapter, but be aware if anything does happen while you are doing that it would not be covered under warranty.

Still no word from Scan. This whole situation has put me off buying from them again. I think I will take my custom elsewhere next time. It's a shame as up until now, they were pretty good with customer service. But supplying wrong product information to a customer who's spending around £1600 and then going weeks with seemingly no progress to resolve the matter is not very impressive. What really annoys me is the complete lack of communication. I am at the rock bottom of their priority list and it is glaringly obvious. Having spent so much money, I resent this very much.

For those unaware of what I'm ranting on about, they told me the laptop would ship with the AUO FHD eDP panel when I specifically asked them before purchasing. However, I received the LG FHD LVDS panel instead with noticeably lower contrast, muted colours and poor viewing angles. Seeing as it is LVDS I have no way of upgrading the display myself.

To add insult to injury the display additionally suffers from backlight bleeding, which I am becoming increasingly intolerant to. It has fast become my biggest gripe with modern display technology.

I am really sorry for you, no company should behave in such way.

Is there anything in their sale contract? I assume that if they sell you something while telling you it is something else, there should be some legal customer protection for you to use.

Can't tell for certain (i'm also thinking of buying one of these) but based on my research the temps are a bit lower these days, most of these reviews were done immediately after the launch of these models and in those reviews they have higher clocked CPU's which produce more heat than this processor with what you can buy the model now.

Also i think bios updates have helped with the issue, but this needs to be confirmed from someone who actually owns the machine. :)

I don't know. I may have to look into it. I'm getting angrier as the days go on.

I have my Windows 10 colour set to orange at the moment and when looked at a slight diagonal angle a significant portion of the screen will shift colour to bright blue. Yes, blue. I can hardly believe that this panel is IPS.

Quick Q for you all. This is my first Sager, and first high end machine. I know benchmarks aren't the end all, but I just ran 3DMark11 an it came in much lower than I expected. I have an 8562 w/i7 4720, 980gtx, 16gb 1833 RAM.

Score was 10,497. The results show a machine in comparison with an i5-4590 & 970 getting 12,034.

Running a fresh install of Win10. Are there any guides our best practices I can reference as I troubleshoot?

    Thanks!

Hello, I want to use fingerprint login on Windows 10.

I have XMG P505 (=P65xSx) notebook, Windows 10 Home, all latest drivers, EgisTec ES603 fingerprint reader. There is no one unknown device in Device Manager. All devices working fine. But I can't see option for setting up fingerprint sign-in in "Settings->Account->Sign-in options". Require sign-in, Password, PIN, Related settings. No fingeprint option :(
What I need to do to enable this on Win10 ?

Looks like an average GPU score for the 980M is 12632 for 3DMark11 so yours is a little lower. Do you have your power options set to high performance? That will make a difference.

Yeah, I just tried again with power options on high performance and hotkey on the performance profile. Score = 10,446

Looks like I have a little detective work to do.

You know what, here are the results. I just realized the Graphics score was up in the 12K range, perhaps I'm in good shape:
    http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/10143321

Still puzzles me that 3DMark has an inferior CPU & GPU with a score ~15% higher than my machine (or perhaps my assumptions are incorrect).

I just ran my NP8652 and got 10,964 so I would say that you are probably in the right ballpark. The reason you have a difference between the machine with a 970 and the i5 is because those are the desktop versions and ours are the mobile components.

Even if you have two exact specs on the same machine, there is just some luck with the build quality of the components in your system. So that might factor in, or those other systems might be able to OC a bit higher. But it looks like your results aren't bad.

hellow everyone im new in this Thread and come from the W230SS (already sold).
I own an P651SG Clevo (white label) from MSYN / Schenker Germany.

I have a problem with installing the Soundblaster Software. After installing the Realtek drivers (reboot) i installed the soundblaster Software (reboot). When i now open the Software via tray icon an a massage tells me that no device was found. Any idea what i can do . Im on Windows 10 clean install (after upgrade from 8.1 to 10 i clean installed again). No drivers were pushed via windows update. I installed the MYSN drivers from the german page during flight mode "on". Any idea what i can do to get it to work?

Phew, i was thinking of waiting until skylake mobile processors but it doesn't seem that's going to happen any time soon and the new features won't matter much to me (maybe 10% more cpu power, more pci-e lanes for SSD's [also a bit faster] and some usb-c connectors).

Maybe i'll just hit the trigger and order one XMG P505 (970m) today. Thinking i'll get it with 8 GB's and i'll purchase the Samsung SM951 from my work for OS & games and throw my current Crucial into that 2,5" slot for data and storage. I suppose all in all SM951 would be a better choice than 2 "regular" M.2 SSD's in RAID 0?

My main reasons for getting a new laptop is to play better, there should be a significant change between gtx 860m -> gtx 970m and there's good community here, and Prema too. I'm thinking of using OC to close the gap between 970m & 980m. :)

If your main use is gaming then not waiting for Skylake and getting a computer is a good way to go. I don't think you'll end up regretting the choice. Since the 970M has really delivered, you should see a nice improvement in your game performance.

My computer arrived yesterday after some delays, and it works and looks very good, especially when I compare it with my old one from 2011. But still I got two problems with it: the first one is AUO AHVA screen (bleed?) . I have three orange spots on the screen noticeably on black images ,two of them in one corner, and one of them in the lower part of the screen. Is there a software which can repair it, is it temporarly, or it's a permanet hardware problem?

The second problem, which is pretty minor, is my graphics clock frequency. I install the overclocking utilities to have them in my nvidia control panel, but I observed that the Graphics clock is set on 540Mhz. Is this normal, or it's a problem with the drivers (the memory clock is 2505Mhz) (on a GTX970M).

Thank you for the help :D
