I have no idea about the orange spots, let's hope these are not dead pixels... For the graphic frequency, make sure you are plugged in, on performance mode, and that something is making your gpu work (for instance the rendering test of GPUZ, a benchmark or a game), and check again. It is usually downclocked when activated but not in use.

They aren't dead pixels because the spots doesn't look anything like that. A good comparation would be when you put a flashlight light on the screen. That's how the spots looks, but orange and not so brighter. On white the spots aren't noticeable, only on black.

Sounds like standard backlight bleeding. Is it really excessive? Do you notice it once you've booted up into Windows or just more during black screens during POST.

They are pretty noticeable when I'm booting, but on Desktop they are hardly noticeable. In some games, like Witcher 3 or Metro LL, you can see them in darker scenes, but they don't destroy the game atmosphere to say it like that.

Is your screen an IPS type? If so that would be typical behavior from them. My notebook does the same thing where you really just see it during boot up and we have seen several others report the same. If its not excessive once you're into the OS then I would consider it good to go.

Yes IPS is not as efficient at blocking the backlight when the pixel is off.

Hey, so I just received my S650SG and I have a question.

I want to install a 2.5" SSD drive into it. I took it apart, unscrewed the HDD bracket, removed the HDD, put the SSD beneath it and now - should I just put the HDD on the SSD? Nothing between them? With the notebook came 2 light blue thingies that I'm not sure what they are (thermal pads?) but the thinner one would probably fit between the SSD and the HDD. Should I put it there or is it OK to just leave it like that?
    Thanks!

The pad is for installing m.2 drives, just leave a gap between the two.

Updated my P650sg to Windows 10 but encountered a black screen. I had to use a USB install method did a complete reformat then reinstall of Windows 10. Now it's working ok. Still using most of the Windows 8.1 drivers.

Anyone managed to install MSI Afterburner and get custom fan profiles to work. It was working great in Windows 8.1 but in Windows 10, I can't adjust any of the settings.

I feel like I'm going around in circles with Scan customer support. So after all this time the chap replies and says that he was told by his manager that it had been handled on the forums. On the forums I'd been told that there had been a mixture of panels sent out from China. Great. OK. But that doesn't solve anything. I want my AUO panel :(

I've just outright asked them if they're willing to swap out the LG panel for the correct AUO panel that I originally thought I was paying for when purchasing.

I'm not overreacting am I? You'd expect a display that has better viewing angles than a TN when paying this much money wouldn't you?

If you bought it on an agreed understanding that it would have a certain hardware configuration and you got something different to what was agreed then I think they have to put that right. So, I think they should fix it for you.

Agreed, if you understood and they made it clear that the AUO panel is what you get, and you got the LG instead, absolutely they have to make it right. That being said, the LG panel is still excellent quality, my buddy has the AUO panel (He purchased from Eurocom) and there is almost no difference. Even in viewing angles, we tested it thoroughly :p The LG panel seems to be a tad bit brighter though and his AUO has more bleeding; mine has none even on POST screen.

    Ok, thanks for the info.

Now I have a problem when I'm trying to boot Windows from USB stick. I'm using Sandisk Ultra USB 3.0 flash drive (32GB). I chose USB drive as first bootable option, I created the bootable USB disc on Mac via the Bootcamp utility (tried 2 different .isos) and when I choose the USB option all I get is a black screen with a blinking dash in the upper left corner.. Do you guys know what's wrong?

So I tried everything I can think of and it's still not working.. this is what is on the screen when I power on the laptop:

Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Series v2.59a (02/13/14)
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable

    PXE M0F: Exiting PXE ROM.
Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key

I suspect that your usb drive isn't actually being formatted properly to be bootable. Bootcamp installs (afaik) are very different and pretty much skip the boot loader (to prevent WinX accidentally replacing the Apple boot loader).

Safest way is to use a Windows machine (if possible) and use Rufus to create an EFI bootable stick.

Hum I do not know if somebody had this issue before, but I would like any help on this question:

Previously I was on Windows 8.1, and while using Throttlestop I was able to remove throttling from a run of XTU benchmark or P95, having the clocks stable @3.39GHz.

Now I did update to Windows 10, and it looks like I cannot make Throttlestop effective anymore, no matter what settings I try, my CPU does not behave as well as before. I tried to downgrade to TS v6 and v7, but no luck with that too.

    Any ideas?

Good, so I'm not going crazy (yet)!

From my internet research I have learnt that there's different versions of the LG panel. The eDP version has better viewing angles, better contrast, better well... everything than the LVDS version I have been stuck with. I suspect you have the superior version!

You wouldn't be praising the viewing angles if you had this version. They're very TN-esque on this panel wherever darker colours are displayed on screen (which is very often, obviously). This is because it's not doing a good job at blocking the backlight.

For this amount of money I expect better y'know?

TLDR Version: Is it possible to set the performace mode to Maximum in hotkeys when unplugged? The option is not available to me unless I'm plugged in.

    More Info
I'm new to the forum and gaming laptops in general. I have an issue that is driving me crazy, and I'm hoping for some guidance (I may just have faulty hardware).

I have a p651SG. I've noticed that when I unplug from the AC, my graphics performance gets reduced by 50%. I've done a ton of research and have tried the obvious (Verified windows power mode, Verified Hotkeys, etc.) I even tried installing a clean Windows installation to make sure it wasn't a hotkey app issue with Windows 10.

It is also not a temperature issue, as everything is around 40c. I profiled the video card, and noticed that while the GPU CPU stays running high, the GPU memory is constantly throttled down to a lower number. This does not happen when running plugged in. I considered that this might be a bios issue, so I installed the premamod bios and loaded the default settings. Still see the same issues.

To anyone still reading, thank you. I have a few questions.
1.) I have installed premamod, but I'm unsure how to force the laptop to never throttle GPU memory, is that something I can do easily?
    2) Does the hotkeys app let you choose maximum performance while on battery?
    3) I've played with Afterburner and a few other overclocking apps, but I'm unsure how to force the GPU memory to stay at the max rate.

I'm new to these forums, so please let me know if I can provide any more info that would be illuminating.

The throttling when working on battery is there for a reason. Your battery will be damaged if the devices run @ full speed
    Or may explode....

At full pelt your system draws around 180W. That would drain the largest laptop batteries out there in 20 minutes.

This level of heat dissipation in the battery would make it explode.

Thanks for the responses guys. What your saying makes sense, I'm just not sure that the amount that's being throttled is correct. The amount that it's happening is my concern. Is it really reasonable to bring down performance by over 50%?

I think almost all laptops throttle the dGPU while operating in battery power.. Because the battery cannot sustain the power consumption of the gpu.

That's a 17 inch machine with a GPU that consumes less than half the power of your current one. All 965M machines and above will not run at full speed on battery.

You're thinking of the Pro, the regular Razer 2014 has an 870M in it. Is the 870M that much more efficient?

Edit: I hope I'm not coming across as argumentative, I'm truly curious and appreciate the feedback.

Edit #2: After further research, these results are entirely expected (as you guys said). Thanks for putting up with my blather. I'm even more impressed by the Razer's ability to handle games on battery power.

Hi there, I'm trying to decide between MSI gs60 and the Sager NP8651. I will be getting the 4k version, as I will be mainly using this for work(i'm a developer)

So far, I'm leaning towards MSI because it's thinner and seems to get little more juice out of its battery, but at the same time i'm really interested in the matte 4K option on the Sager. Does anyone have experience with it? I've heard horrible things about UHD matte screens.

So I recently picked up a 4k variant of the Sager NP8651 and the performance on the desktop seems very sluggish, while in game performance seems good. I was wondering if there is any things that might fix the problem, I am running windows 10 with every update installed.

Just a bit of info, the GS60 screens are 48hz max vs 60hz that are in Sagers. If you're not gaming then probably won't matter to you.

If you make sure throttlestop is allowing full CPU and you disable any Nvidia battery settings, I'm sure you can make it go full power.
Personally I don't have any issues, but I would not recommend it, do you plan on gaming on battery?

I have a 45 minute train ride to and from work, which is a great time to play some games. This is why I've been obsessed with getting the max performance when unplugged. It's looking like I'll just have to live with lower settings on the go. I played around with throttlestop, even with the CPU still running uncapped, it doesn't help the GPU that much, and there isn't much I can do to run the GPU at full power on battery (not technically feasible).

Unfortunately I'm not familiar enough with Mac OS. From what I gather the Boot Camp assistant is supposed to do it.

Alternatively, you could grab yourself a USB DVD drive and use an actual disc.

It doesn't, that's a common point of confusion and the description on the Clevo website certainly doesn't help matters

Thanks for clarifying that! As a long time laptop tweaker, what's your opinion on using a Samsung SM951 vs. 2 generic m.2 SSD's in Raid 0?

I didn't realize the Sager panel runs at 60hz, is the Samsung panel in 8651 same as in GS60? Also, How come Sharp panels aren't available for 8651? Also, what's the difference between 8651 and 8651-s? Also, in case I haven't asked you enough questions, why do fools fall in love?
