I had the P650SE, the review is in my sig with surface temps, though I didn't measure the bottom panel.

I do not have the exact model numbers of the screens handy but I do think they are different. There would be no reason to limit one to 48hz besides it being the limitation of the panel.

We will have to contact Sager to see if there is some hardware limitation as to why the Sharp isn't available for the 8651 but is for the 8652. Hopefully they can provide us with a reason and if they do I will be happy to follow up here.

The difference between those two models is just the standard configuration at a lower price. If you took the NP8651 and put the same specs as the NP8651-S you would have identical computers but the S version would cost less.

And fools fall in love.....because of the high FPS their computers can play their favorite games at :).

So here's where I'm standing at this point: the refresh rate doesn't matter to me as much as luminosity, especially since it's a glossy panel. I've read a lot about the panel in gs60/y50 having luminosity in the mid 200s and problems with yellows. If the samsung panel in 8651 is different and, most importantly, can provide ~350 cd/m2, I'm all set. Otherwise, I'd have to go for the slightly thicker 8652 and spend a lot more monies. So here's the question, are you, or anyone else here, aware of a good review of the 8651/P650SE that checks the luminosity of the 4k samsung panel?

If good screen is all you're after wouldn't it be best for you to replace it with an aftermarket one?

Heya. I owned a GS60 Ghost Pro for about two weeks before returning it and going for the Clevo P651SE (XMG P505). The horrible battery life on the ghost pro was one of the main reasons I returned it - and I was not alone (check the topic here on notebookreview forums). Not sure where you've seen that the GS60 has better battery life than the P651/650. In addition, the Ghost Pro gets another thing completely wrong if you are an adult trying to look professional - that gimmicky lighted dragon on the back of the display. The main advantage of the Ghost Pro is it's thinness and lightness and also, it's very cool LED illuminated keyboard - although this is probably subjective.

In terms of build quality, I think the P651 feels a bit more solid and everyone I know has been impressed by the build quality and overall sleekness of the machine. Don't regret the choice one bit ;)

Hey, so did you end up getting the 4k screen? If so, how do you like it compared to the MSI?

Overall, I've seen better feedback on the various Sager 4k screens over the one on the ghost.

Can I use the 1.05.01 EC with the Prema Mod V2 bios? or should i not bother updating.

Also, ever since updating to the Prema Mod V2 bios and vbios, I have a feeling optimus has been disabled because the light for the dGPU is always on. Any idea how I can re-enable optimus?

Can anyone who has used this laptop for college tell me about their experience with it thus far? I have to make a decision by the end of August and I'm hoping to be swayed in this direction.

To me it was perfect! I used it to go to courses, correctly set up o had roughly 5 h of battery on it, long enough to sit through several lectures taking notes or using it to code/browse Web.

The plus to me is that I can also use it at home to play, or do intensive numerical simulations, while before I had two different machines for these uses. It was my principal criterion, to be able to use a polyvalent machine, but I would really recommend this for college if you need the power.

    Hi guys,

I need some help before I go crazy. I am trying to upgrade to premabios v2 but I cannot boot from a USB stick.

Created the USB stick with rufus and tried msdos and freedos bootable. I turn off UEFI boot in Bios and then hit f7 on boot but cannot see my USB drive! I can see it if I f7 with UEFI on.

    What am I doing wrong?????
    thanks in advance

Anyone here with the LQ156D1JX01B Sharp screen? I have some questions regarding it; I am currently using the screen however the performance on the desktop and in general applications is very choppy and laggy. What might be causing this or is this simply due to the high resolution?

Even though UEFI is disabled, make sure CSM is also enabled if it happens to be disabled somewhere under Boot tab in BIOS.

Also, the USB has to be formatted correctly using Rufus on FAT32. The fact that you see it only under UEFI tab means its not formatted for legacy hardware use.

Again, Scan are taking ages to reply to my simple question on whether I can get the display swapped to an AUO panel that I was originally told would be included before purchasing. I fear I'm going to be stuck with this sub-par LG panel forever, through no fault of my own. I am not likely to buy from this company again (at least from their 3XS side of the business). mySN or pcspecialist from here on out, I think.

Possibly. I have noticed an improvement in general scrolling smoothness and such-like in general day to day use in going from my Sharp 4K panel (R.I.P.) to this LG FHD panel. Nothing drastic but enough for me to have noticed. It might be related, it might not - hard to say for certain without the original laptop being functional for side-by-side comparison.

I would think for most college students, that would be pretty good. It should be able to handle about anything needed from it. I couldn't imagine there would be very many classes that would really need more powerful specs than what it offers. Unless you think you would need something with a pretty long battery life, then I would say it would be a solid option.

Would you think waiting for Intel Skylake for this laptop is worth the wait? I only have about a month left before school starts, not sure if I should just stay with Haswell and DDR3 instead of Skylake with DDR4.

Skylake supports both DDR3 and DDR4, there is a good chance that laptops will will be using DDR3 to save on power

It depends a bit on what you are using the computer for, and if the differences of Skylake will help you in real world usage. Also, as metaldemon95 mentioned, even if Skylake does have improvements, will they all make it in to laptops? It's hard to say with rumors and nothing concrete to really go off of yet. And with school about a month away and no release dates, can you afford to not have the computer right away at the start of class if models aren't available for a while?

Basically, there are too many uncertainties out there. Would you rather have a computer that you know is available now and be prepaired, or wait out for something potentially better?

Besides, this is one of the best performance per dollar in the market, meaning that it is one of few laptops that can handle these powerful components correctly. Plus you have a pretty good build quality and a very good upgradability (too bad the cpu and gpu are soldered!).

All in all, after looking for a laptop for a long time (college too) and trying some (p35x, slimmer, hotter, lesser build quality, more expensive!) I am very satisfied with my p651sg.

Well I've been very pleasantly surprised this morning. Scan has offered to collect the laptop and swap the display :D

Most excellent! I'm annoyed by how long this has taken, but I am pleased that we're finally making progress! This goes a long way to redeeming them in my eyes :)

Time to get rid of Prema's BIOS mod and flash the stock BIOS back onto the system (Scan doesn't allow BIOS updating).

It is really bad timing as I am entering crunch time for my master's degree dissertation project! Due to be handed in on 16th September. So I'm going to have to make real good use of the uni's computers to make up for the lack of my own. Not ideal at all, but I fear if I request they delay it all by 5 weeks I'll miss my opportunity to get the display I originally wanted. I'm not going to let this opportunity slide.

But yeah, I hope they don't take more than 2 weeks or I might really start to struggle! The uni library will be my new home for the next few weeks until I get it back :p

Hey guys, I decided to upgrade to Windows 10 and would like to know if there are any driver issues. Does the latest Hotkey(3.20.35) work on Win10? And is Hotkey really necessary other than the headphone output not working? BTW I am running Prema's mod v2.0.

Also do I have to install the drivers and .inf file from laptopvideo2go or are the ones from geforce site enough?

Yeah, no issues on my end either.

Other than Creative Soundblaster now makes the default Windows 10 system sounds sound awfully distorted using the in-built speakers!

The only issue I had upgrading to Windows 10 was the touchpad drivers. First I noticed that you could not type and use the touchpad at the same time because they added a palm detection setting. Then I found that after going to sleep and waking up, the touchpad would not be able to unlock the laptop. Rolling back the driver worked but Windows 10 updated it to the new version again.

Congrats on the order! Just a FYI the ETA is when Sager expects more in stock, they are currently back ordered. Once they are back in stock then they will build and ship the computer. Wanted to let you that since you have classes soon.

The P650SE (NP8651) is on back order at Sager and all Sager resellers go off of that stock. The P650SG (NP8652) is in stock right now.

Haha, that's my kind of thought processing. If you game, 970M is solid but 980M will give you 20-30% more breathing room over the years ;) (also a bit more flexibility with regards to 2.5" SSD/HDD height compatibility). Hope they get it to you in time, enjoy.

Also to anyone who dared to venture into Win10 waters, Eurocom now has some W10 drivers up, if necessary HERE (Note: M5 Pro = NP865x = P65xSA/SE/SG).

Welcome aboard! I think the extra cost is well worth, the 980m is an amazing card for a laptop!
