Does anybody have anything to say about NVMe support as to weather or not the p65xSx supports it or if clevo will add support or if it can be added by premamod

I asked Scan to collect this Monday but haven't heard back so I assume that's not happening, but it'll hopefully be sometime this week. I'm assuming that my computer will be gone for weeks if they really do need to replace the entire motherboard to change screens? I will have to ask them once they get it for an estimate of how long it'll take.

Maybe I should buy a cheapo ultrabook, so that I can still do my dissertation stuff when I'm at home. It'd kind of be a waste of money for only a few weeks but this next month is extremely, ridiculously important and I need convenient access to a computer. And of course, I could still use the thing even after I get my P651SG back. I don't know, maybe worth considering...

Why are you getting your screen sorted out when you know you need your laptop for the next week? Priorities?? Leave it till after your dissertation no?

I would still have access to computers. It's just that having access to my own personal laptop would be more convenient :)

It's taken so long for them to agree to do anything about this, I don't want to miss this opportunity. It was a lot of money after all!

OK, I'll also be honest. It's a part of my mind trying to find excuses to justify purchasing an ultrabook. I've always wanted one to act as a more portable PC to my main systems... I'm a strange, strange person. So strange. Please forgive me!

But I honestly want to get this screen nonsense sorted out ASAP. My dissertation will get finished regardless. I'm not stupid enough to jeopardise my degree for such a silly reason. Honest :)

Wouldn't it be better to just have an ultrabook and a desktop gaming rig? More bang for less bucks IMO.

Oops. Sorry for the progressively nonsensical posts. The problem with Tapatalk app is that it provides easy access to the forums whilst under the influence of alcohol

I should better explain myself. I have a 512GB SSD that's currently sitting idly by as the P651SG cannot take more than one PCIe M.2 drive. So this would be a way to make use of that dormant storage. And as I've already said, I've always liked the concept of an ultrabook for even greater portability than the P651SG can offer. I plan on getting a desktop once I've found a full time job (I haven't given up on mobile gaming though). Lastly, but certainly not least, I'm a tech geek who just loves to unbox shiny new toys - surely you can sympathise? :D

Not even just mobile gaming.... I move about in my house and yard too often. I also have several docking stations for my P650SG that I cannot justify using a desktop at about 6-7 different locations in a day.

And also, new toys is a man's passion! That is all.

Me too, a wise choice based on my computing needs would be a mini-ITX gaming desktop but i just like laptops more.. And it's more fun to tinker with them since it requires a bit more effort. Most of the time my laptop is mounted in my main computer desk but i like to have the ability to carry my main PC easy if the need arises (usually to a friend's/relative's place or my cottage).

Plus during winter time my dry skin has problems dealing with the amount of warm airflow which is generated by gaming with a desktop.

I must admit that though I like the power and flexibility of a gaming desktop, having owned gaming laptops for a while has made me realize that they are quite a bit more useful. You can game anywhere. Pop it on the kitchen table and get a few gaming sessions in after dinner, or during the kids' nap.

Take it to work and game a bit during your lunch break.

If cost were no object, I'd have both. But alas, I they are mutually exclusive, so until the kids are much older, it's a laptop for me. As a parent, I barely get much time to game at all, let alone sit down at an actual desk in a fixed room to play games.

Love my np8652 from mythlogic, had it for a few months and while I am perusing the thread, whats the best way to increase battery life? I got 3 hours on power saver and low brightness with constant web surfing and i know there are some tips to reduce battery life usage.

    Hello!

First post, apologies if this was already answered somewhere but my searches did not find anything on this matter.
Also reposting this in main Sager-Clevo board.

I am looking to order Sager NP8651 through XoticPC. I had several questions and wrote an e-mail to XoticPC sales address, one of the questions was regarding Samsung 951 M.2 PCI as a boot drive option. I received a reply from them, person replying to me wrote "From everything that i've seen i don't normally recommend PCIe for the 8652/8651 has it doesn't really use the benefits of more lanes still, however it does fit in there."
That's a really strange answer which is so ambiguous that I could not understand what exactly is the reason. NP8651 has M.2 Wi-Fi card but AFAIK it should not influence PCIe lanes on M.2 storage slots. Or - totally reading between the lines - is it because Samsung 951 is x4 and motherboard chipset or design does not allow it to work as x4 and forces it into x2 thus not giving any benefit over x2 drive? Samsung 951 is currently the only M.2 PCIe option in XoticPC configurator, all others are SATA.

    Any ideas?

The np865x does support 4 pcie lanes, they are gen 2 though, I have the Samsung xp941 and it works at full speed, the sm951 supports gen 3 by 4 so it would be limited to gen 2 by 4 which is equal to gen 3 by 2

The sm951 will run faster than the xp941 even in gen 2 by 4 though

You can get about a max of 1.7GB/sec out of the current chipset.

Scan support operates in a different dimension in some sort of weird time bubble. I've received an email from them at 12:11am.

Well, collection has been scheduled for this Friday. I'll ask tomorrow how long it'll likely take until it's returned to me and if it looks like it'll take a good long while I may well be tempted to splurge on that cheap ultrabook I was yapping on about - I've given up on getting a 990M system because the rumours suggest it'll cost a fortune so all that money is free to be spent irresponsibly elsewhere

True, but the rumours point to it being considerably more expensive than even the 980M. All because AMD is continuing to remain dormant!

Can anyone help me on this problem? I think my touchpad is broken. The left physical button it's always pressed, [IMG] because of that my touchpad isn't working when I need to click something. I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them already, but it didn't help, so it's a hardware problem. Is there any way to fix the button, like removing it and putting it back, or I need to send the laptop back as a warranty problem?

Usually that's a mechanic problem, maybe the touchpad button is locked down for some reason and it's sending the "click signal" all the time. Maybe you can disassemble the touchpad from the computer and try removing the whole button from the touchpad and inspect the mechanism, perhaps you can spot the problem by yourself.

But if you're not shure how to do this maybe it would be better to have it fixed by the seller.

Mine will be collected on Monday. Again, I'm getting support emails from Scan at weird times. 4:09AM! Are they nocturnal?

I also caved to my internal desires and splurged on a touchscreen ultrabook as a secondary system. I feel guilty but I got it with student discount, so at least there's that.

Lots of contenders but it ultimately boiled down to a duel between the Asus Zenbook UX305 and the HP Spectre x360. The Zenbook was priced much lower than the Spectre, but after watching/reading many reviews of both I felt strangely compelled to get the latter. When I found that I could get 10% student discount it sealed the deal.

Had it for a couple of hours and am loving it so far. Nothing's making me immediately regret this decision. Looks like it'll very nicely complement my P651SG - one's the gaming/work powerhouse, the other's the on-the-bed portable web browsing/media device :)

just got mine delivered this morning. still waiting for evo 850 m.2 to be delivered by amazon, but already installed windows on the default 1tb hard disk. I must say, this thing looks stunning. this being my first laptop, i am thoroughly impressed by the build quality and weight. It weights less than it actually looks. I have no regret paying more for the 980gtx and not waiting for the np8651. A big thanks to Jason and Hutsady from xoticpc. I will write a proper reseller review once i get everything installed and use it for a week.

Gutted. Ultrabook has a stuck/bright pixel so I'm returning it. That's totally unacceptable. I have a 14 day window to return from the HP Store. Well damn that didn't last long did it?

I've noticed that the display isn't really that different from the P651SG. I think I've been way too harsh on the poor old LG Phillips FHD screen panel. Seems like all IPS panels that aren't the glorious Sharp 4K/Panasonic 3K panels suffer similar issues. In light of this new information I'd be willing to keep it but the collection and screen swap has already been arranged with Scan, so I won't say no to a free display upgrade.

Try to buy from Microsoft store. They have signature edition HP without any crapware. So basically clean installed notebook from day 1.

Well I bought direct from HP because they had a fairly generous student discount.

I'm unsure if I will ask for a replacement unit. I freaking adore the laptop though. Lovely design.

I'm tempted to just ask Scan to call the whole display swap off with the P651SG. Now that I have seen that the LG Phillips display really isn't all that bad relative to other IPS displays I don't really want to part with the laptop for too long. But on the other hand a free display upgrade is a free display upgrade. But one that could risk getting a display with a dead pixel and worse backlight bleed. Oh gosh what have I got myself into...

IPS displays are good but TN has persisted for a good reason as some uses do prefer it.

Ethernet disconnecting randomly. Windows 10 Pro via ISO on USB from W8.1. Checked out router, switches, cable and all are okay.

Using Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. Driver version 10.1.505.2015 constantly disconnecting and system would report no internet connection. Wireless (Killer 1525) would reconnect and be solid connection until ethernet would reconnect seemingly random.

Decided to rollback Realtek driver to version 9.1.401.2015, which was one of four driver versions listed on machine. Ethernet now stable with no random disconnects.

In all cases, KIller 1525 card always maintained solid AC connection.

    Hey there,
I had th4 same problem as you described. You need to change to energy settings in die configuration dialog on the Ethernet configuration. Just Google windows 10 Ethernet and maybe power save option as well. You will see that there are 3 to 4 options that you need to change so that Windows won't shutdown your Ethernet anymore.
Don't ask me why it is(it's super stupid...) but that helped me..

My short hands-on with the HP Spectre x360 has made me appreciate my P651SG more. Mostly the fact that the display is not as bad as I thought it was. At least something good came out of this ordeal! :)

    Very true! :D

I am not going to ask for a replacement unit but just opt for a straight refund. As there's a 14 day return window that should be fine. I want to play around with it some more but I've already packaged it back up into the box so as not to risk damaging it and jeopardising the return. Rather paradoxically, whilst I absolutely adore it, it has simultaneously rekindled my love for my P651SG and I've realised that I don't need two premium notebooks, only one :)

Once I get confirmation of the return I'm opting for a real cheap alternative, the Acer ES1-131. Can pick it up from Tesco for just £133 with Clubcard discount.

    off topic:
@Cakefish, that Acer really seems like a good "carry-on" la. No point in investing much money in a purely utilitarian machine.

On topic: My P651SE is still going strong, very happy with it. I don't like WIndows 10 though - ever since I upgraded the laptop seems to be slower. Logging into Windows takes way too long for a machine equipped with an SSD. It looks like it's a widespread problem though.

I think that Windows 10 login speed highly depends on your internet connection. For me, sometimes it's very fast and other times it can take a while (relatively speaking, for a fast SSD).

Yeah, the little Acer looks pretty good for the price. I must try to control my techie urges to constantly spend on what is, at the end of the day, a secondary system meant to tide me over while my P651SG undergoes the display surgery :)

I think it shows CPU activity.

OK so this annoying. The left trackpad button has started audibly squeaking every time it's pressed. Any way to resolve this? It's not always convenient to use a mouse.

The Dell 240W PSU came up in this topic so I figured I'd ask here:

Any of you guys ever have your 240PSU shut down on you?
I've got one hooked up to my Clevo (with a BiX power adapter) and when I fire up Furmark with standard settings the light goes out and I'm on battery power. I need to take out the PSU's power cable and plug it back in for it to work again.

It's just not possible that a lowely 4710HQ CPU with a 980M would max out a 240W PSU, so what gives?

I'm running Prema's latest bios for my P670SG and 980M.
