EDIT: Fixed my issue with flashing the PremaMod.
Alternate question. I can only boot now with UEFI boot enabled, is this normal?

If Windows was installed in UEFI mode it can ONLY be loaded when the BIOS is set to UEFI mode, that's normal for each and every BIOS.

    ENJOY! :)

I actually have the same problem as you: running a spinpoint m9t 2tb along a Samsung 850 pro, system on ssd, data, music, videos, some games on hdd.

While under win 8.1 the hdd was correctly put to sleep after some time (eg 5 min), and I was indeed hearing it stop and start if accessing files, since I moved to win 10 it doesn't work anymore.

I wonder if the new os is the culprit here, I have to check if I did not install a program on hdd that is regularly called, preventing it from sleeping.

Do you guys know any software handy to monitor disk access by programs?

I did some test and -80mv offset is working fine for now.

I have few degrees lower temps and it seems that core 2 is weaker and heats up a lot more. I don't have time to re-paste the whole system but I also thing that thermal paste is not applied the best way. I will probably buy Noctua NT N1 thermal paste instead of IC7. I have it all over my desktop and other laptops back at home.

Yes I know I am asking a lot, I want to try and skip some things about learning the system by asking PPL.

I know about CPU lottery. I still have at home a x9000 that i undervolted at 1.1 and kept it at 3.2hgz stable and 3.3 partially stable. I must find a way to undervolt (if possible) the GPU now and see h

the nvidia gpu is muxed toward the igpu which means that everything that passes between the screen and your gpu passes through the iGPU, it can't be disabled.

Can someone look at my BIOS firmware and EC versions and let me know if mine are old or mismatched?

    Looks good to me...
They produced some P6xxSx-A models (Broadwell) and shipped them in limited quantity. You are getting something special there. :)

Just make sure not to flash a P6xxSx (non-A) BIOS to your system (only vBIOS are compatible).

    Thank you for the confirmation.
Going back to my earlier post Im still trying to figure out why my CPU fan takes a good 15 seconds to spin up to full speed if the CPU is placed under a heavy load, like Handbrake encoding. In those 15 seconds my temps hit at least 98C.

    :-(

I just flashed the system to Prema. I have better performance but i can see a bit more GPU power related performance cap especially on Fire Strike. I don't know if this is a bios problem or i have something else that I need to check. I know Prema removes lots of blocks to the GPU.

The temperatures seem to be lower on the CPU side but on the GPU they seem just a bit higher. My max CPU was 85 and GPU was 79. The CPU is undervolted -80mV and I will undervolt the GPU a bit to see how much i can lower the temps.

Also i need to check more things in BIOS after i submit some homework on Thursday.

PS. Can i change the fan profile without flashing the bios again ? I want to change it to silent and see how the system will behave.

The BIOS will only increase CPU performance.
You also need to flash the vBIOS in order to lift the GPU throttle.
Actually there is NO throttle with the Mod unless for temperature (92c).
(Mod archive has two folders one for BIOS one for vbios)

On the fly undervolt for Maxwell cards isn't a thing, yet.

FANs can be adjusted in ClevoHotKeyApp

That power performance cup I didn't understand why it happened when the GPU temps were OK and yes the CPU performance in benchmarks is better.

I don't know if i will need to flash the GPU because I won't be doing any overclocking now with it.

Can you please tell me what is the difference between Silent and Cooler fan profiles that you set when you flash the bios. Can I also flash that without flashing the whole bios (what is the batch file for that) ?

Nvidia screwed up with Maxwell a bit and I am used to my dekstop with R9 290, FX-8320, and Crosshair V Formula-Z. It will take me another week probably till i learn the laptop in and out.

Flash the vBIOS Mod, too. The stock vBIOS will throttle even without overclocking.

You can switch ECs by just typing "S" or "C" in USB-DOS to flash cool or silent EC.

You can also alter FAN values a bit in ClevoHotKeyApp.

Ok. I will fladh it and post back the results tomorrow. Thnx :D

Why they chose to throttle the system so much. Is it some cooling issues or just to make the system last longer and have lower temperature ?

It means that the keyboard is backlit with a white light, and the gaming key refers to the red arrows that the buttons have under the letters and I think they are more though than the other keys.

Guys, there appears to be a new version called P650Rx which comes with Skylake plus doubles the VRAM (6GB for 970M and 8GB for 980M), anybody have any info on these as I can't find much online?

    That's weird.

I've been having a rough ride with PC Specialist for the last 4 weeks or so.

On August 24th I ordered a P650SG from them (4720HQ, 980M 4GB). It was built on September 4th, but then the next day I find out that the chassis was faulty/damaged, and by that point they had none in stock, with an ETA of additional stock being September 27th. I decided to wait it out since I purchased on finance, and I really didn't want to cancel it.

Yesterday I decided to check out the PCS site again, it seems the Defiance is discontinued in favour of the Defiance II, which features Skylake. However in the configurator, it says it's launching September 27th... same ETA as my Haswell chassis stock.

So this morning I spoke to PCS customer service to see whether I could upgrade. Turns out, I don't have a choice. The stock they are expecting on the 27th is only 6th gen chassis...

I'm confused now after your comment.

Does this mean I have to wait potentially 'til DECEMBER for the laptop??? Or was I misinformed and they most likely will be receiving 4th gen chassis on the 27th? Or could they indeed be receiving new Skylake hardware as early as 27th Sept?

Yep no throttling after flashing vBios. The scores are a bit higher even though i had my system performance on Balanced. I will check more this weekend and see what can be improved from the bios and then move with more benchmarks.

Lots of things in Bios and it will take me some time till i go through all of them see what i want to be enabled or disabled.

Imo, based on my experience waiting for my defiance (it was the same for all resellers)...had to wait quite a lot, but my eta was mid november. got it in early december. Don't worry early october you will probably get your defiance 2, wait for it, the skylake processor+more Vram is worth the wait ! Skylake heats way less than a haswell processor...it's more efficient :).

Skylake based laptop will be out in october so don't worry, i spoke with a DELL representative because i want to buy a skylake dell xps 13 for my studies. He told me that october 8th they will have it in stock. so no skylake delays for now !

wait for your laptop, don't take a haswell because you can't wait some weeks !

I wouldn't call it an upgrade, more like a side-grade. There are trade offs. I am a little upset that this change wasn't communicated to me prior to being built. I probably would have gone ahead anyway since I wasn't planning on doing the modified Bios but It was nice to know I could do it in the future if I needed to and now I probably won't be able to.

Also I didn't receive my code for Metal Gear Solid: Phantom Pain. Which I did request.

That cpu change wasn't something that was expected. It wasn't up on anybody's site as an option to choose. They communicated with us that there were a few orders that were getting that change for free. PM or email me your order number, and I can get MGS V out to you. It is a digital code that is emailed out, and not something that is included in the box or pre-installed.

edit: got the code already :)

That would be sweet. No hurry though, like I said I'm not planning on doing it anytime soon. It's more of a future thing when the laptop starts to feel sluggish with all the new games that I'll want to tweak it to get as much as I can out of it.

Hi, I have been enjoying this laptop for a long while now but I have a question regarding storage. I recently ordered the 500GB Samsung 850 EVO M2 SSD. I also have a SATA model of this SSD already in my system. Will I see any benefits if I move my Windows installation to the M2 SSD over the SATA one?
