I have had CLU applied to the P650SG since day one. Have removed it once so far after four months. The next four month maintenance is soon... but the last time I did it the material was easy to remove after leaving laptop on for a bit and forcing it to run hard to ensure the thermal material was heated and loose.

    Posted on Scan's forums.

They failed to call me back again this morning, after I rang them yesterday. 3rd time and counting they've failed to call me when they said they would. It's almost as if they don't want to take my money!

Hopefully the forums prove to be more helpful.

I will move with my laptop a lot so i just skipped this time CLU. I believe Gelid Extreme will work just fine.

Another thing that is bothering me is the nvidia GPU is staying at least according to systray icon and battery life is hardly 2h. has anyone had these problems before ??

Hey , sorry for the late reply . Yeah , I've noticed the CPU tends to reach really high temperature in idle , but for me the problem is a bug with the intel pstate driver in linux because arch's timer is running at 250 hz . If i recompiled the kernel with 1000 hz it would no longer reach really high frequencies in idle , but that would shorten my battery's lifespan considerably , so I switched to the old ACPI driver and I disable turbo with "cpupower frequency-set -u 2.6GHz" . This way I have almost the same temperatures like in windows and in idle it stays cool . I haven't tried sleep , I don't use sleep or hibernation .

As for the HDD , be careful ... linux can screw your your load/unload cycles if you dont disable them with "hdparm -B 254 /dev/sda" and "hdparm -S 0 /dev/sda". Doing this keeps it at 39-40 C constantly for me ... which is kinda ok.

Also , I've found that KDE works best on this laptop when it comes to performance , no tearing and smoothness in linux.

You need to install the proper Realtek audio driver before you can use Sound Blaster, link is underneath if you're using Windows 10. Personally i think they're both awful pieces of software, so i keep them off mine and simply use the Windows sound adjustment effects instead.

Guys, i have an odd problem where my screen contrast keeps changing while running the laptop on battery power. It became obvious when i changed my desktop background to a solid colour, and noticed the background better darker when opening up various programs. Anyone know what might be causing this issue?

This could be caused by the adaptive brightness setting. You can turn that off to see if it stops doing it.

I've noticed this happening while plugged in as well. If i go to a website that has a more dark background and then go to something that is lighter the screen seems to adjust the contrast slowly. I tried looking into it and I think it might be controlled by the LCD panel itself.

I'm thinking about the 6th i5 version for this laptop's line. i5 6xxx + gtx 970m is a good combination for me but sadly they just have the 6th i7k and i7-non K for this model in the UK :(.

I have adjusted these settings. It definitely does help however if my fingers are touching side-by-side the scrolling is really inconsistent. It is okay that I have to have them a little apart but it sometimes zooms if I don't move my fingers exactly the same. I know I can turn that off but I do sometimes use it.

I prefer a mouse over the trackpad and use a mouse 90% of the time. I've never had a good trackpad on a windows laptop they all seem to have issues. This one is tolerable for me but if others aren't having this issues and it's a hardware problem I would like to get it fixed while it's under warranty.

There are hardly any software that is as awful as creative and realtek software. Also vendor specific software can be really nasty. When i format my PC this weekend i wont install sager software and possibly realtek software. I remember when razer software was really crap few years back :p

Complaining on the forums actually worked! Had a chap who called me just now who sounded like he actually knew his stuff (I think he was the supervisor of the build team). He apologised for the shoddy communication I'd been getting (four times they've said that they'd call me back and haven't done so!) and then asked me about the password I'd given them on Monday as it wasn't working (turns out they had got it wrong and left a key part out).

So they aim to dispatch it today for next day delivery. Really hope that proves to be the case! I like that I feel that we're actually finally making progress now!

Thanks Bigspin for the suggestion. Forums seemed to have worked :)

Hi everyone, I'm expecting to join your ranks on Friday with a NP8652-S from xoticpc. My first Sager, or actually a PC where I'll have to install the OS and everything myself. I'd love to ask a couple of questions:
    • Win7 or Win8.1? I prefer 7 but are there any benefits of going 8.1?
    • Is there an intro/tutorial thread as for how to test out the new system? I've read a number of worrying stories in the feedback forum where something went awry or was not working properly straight from the start and I would love to prevent these issues or resolve them right away.
    • What kind of drivers/software should I install right after a clean OS installation? I never done this before and am a bit intimidated by it.
    • I keep reading about the bios mod by Prema, should I even try to do that? What are the benefits?
    Thanks in advance!

So I have had my P650SG for a couple weeks and no matter what I do I cannot get more than 1.5hours-2hours battery life. Even with screen brightness at lowest and keyboard backlight off etc. Even tried balanced and power saving modes (they make no difference it seems).
    Here are my units specs
    windows 10 64bit
    i7 4720HQ
    16GB RAM
    250GB SSD (2.5")
    500GB SSD (m.2)
    1TB HDD (2.5")
    1080p screen
and of course the gtx 980m

I've disabled pretty every every program that can run in the background. I'm totally at a loss with this. If there is any info you guys can give me that would be amazing. Thanks!

Hi. I've had the P650SE for a few months now. I installed Windows 10 on an m.2 drive and had it running alongside Windows 10 on an ssd.
I formatted the ssd and now Windows won't boot, as I think the bootloader was on the ssd.
I tried connecting a DVD drive with the Windows disc to fix it, but now when I turn it on after about 10s the fans all come on full power, and it keeps beeping with about a second between beeps before shutting down.
I've tried changing the ram and booting it without the ssd and without the m.2, but it always does the same thing.
Anyone have any ideas what might be up?

I am using Windows 10 for my P650SG, since I didn't want to stay with windows 7 (don't have native support for USB 3.0, etc), and I didn't want to buy another windows 8 copy (I know I am cheap).

There isn't really an order to install drivers, so you can install whatever driver in order, except for nvidia drivers, integrated graphics drivers must be installed first. You might want to download the ethernet driver directly from realtek if you are going to use Windows 10, since I had problems with ethernet.

About the Prema BIOS, since the stock BIOS is very limited to settings such as overclocking, I haven't installed it yet, not sure if it will work with windows 10 well.

For the battery life make sure the nvidia activity indicator is showing th DGPU is off and you are in the balanced power state.

The icon is shows that is ON but i dont know what is keeping it active. I will remove the drives and post back the answer. :D

    It was the MSI Afterburner.

Yes as soon as i shut down MSI Afterburner the dGPU icon is off.

I will do more trials and see how it will work.
Battery Bar Pro is showing about 3.4 to 4 hours of battery. This is on Power Save and Battery Saver. I guess i need to format the laptop and get rid of crappy creative and realtek software. I dont know how useful are sager utilities.

I was actually about to reply to you asking about that. Yes, any GPU monitoring program will keep the dGPU on as it polls the card for its sensor info. I personally only turn on afterburner when I'm about to play games, then exit it afterwards.

It will poll the video card every 1000ms or whatever is set in afterburner as the update interval.

    Reunited at last :)

Not happy with DPD though. Saw the van outside on the street. Prepared myself for a knock on the door. It never came. Checked tracking page. It said it'd been delivered and signed for by 'Tom'. No one called Tom in my house! So I went outside to see if they had delivered to neighbours instead. Then I saw the box, just dumped behind the bins out front. With a big hole in the side. Great. Because anyone on the street could have nabbed it and it's not like it ever rains in Britain - no, never! So that got me pretty angry.

But luckily the inner box was intact and the laptop seems to be fine so far *knock on wood*. All my SSDs are in there, my Windows 10 Pro licence is still active, everything's still installed so no additional setup has been required, which is nice. It is a 4K matte display, so that's good. A shame to see the return of the dreaded 'grain' effect but oh well, I've learnt over the past few months that no modern LCD screens are perfect. I definitely am noticing the scaling blurriness on Steam, Origin and Uplay but great to see that GOG Galaxy actually has decent high DPI support now! Slowly but surely programs are beginning to make the shift to high DPI.

Now, I see that there's been a whole slew of Windows 10 divers released by Clevo, but in typical Clevo fashion their download servers are currently borked. The update I really want is to Creative Soundblaster v1.00.06 (currently on 1.00.04) - I'm hoping it'll fix the distortion introduced with the new Windows 10 system sounds. Just a matter of patience I suppose until Clevo gets their servers in order. Unless anyone happens to know an alternative download source? Tried XMG, but they don't seem to have the new Soundblaster update.

Not sure what you mean, but even if it is insured it can't save the inconvenience and loss of date etc. We've never used DPD, but I know a driver from another courier who did something similar but not as bad as what @Cakefish 's driver did. He had one house on his route who he delivered to pretty frequently, owner wasn't in one time so the driver digitally signed for a package "on behalf of the recipient" and left it in the front porch, completely out of site of anyone. He was fired for that, the recipient basically got him fired out of spite.

DPD is my favourite. At least driver in my area always give my parcel to neighbours or take it back. I think it depend on driver and contractors(dpd use 3rd party contractors)

Well I also had a parcel (containing my p570wm laptop) that was sent via contractor so no delivery time slot.

I also had a parcel that was not shipped over night to my local depot so was delivered the day after (with no real reason why).

These are in different regions as well.

It does depend on driver from my experience. Every time I get Matt delivering (which is more often than not) the service is absolutely flawless. Most other driver's there's been issues though. So I'm not saying that Matt's perfect, but he's probably some sort of deity.

Pretty much exactly what happened here with me. No card. I just figured it out pretty quick because I'd been using the tracking page (which is something I really like about DPD).

    Hi everyone!

I'm so pleased to be here and now a owner of an XMG P505 (Clevo P651SE-A)

I'm not so pleased about the problems I'm having with it. I'm getting BSOD's in MS Office (of all things). It says Machine_Check_Exception. That means an hardware fault detected by the CPU.
I've run all kinds of benchmarks and tests on it and it performs great. Until I fire up Office. My computer has an Intel Core i7-5700HQ and searching I found others with the same problem mostly MSI notebooks. They reported the same BSOD in Office, Dota2, CS:GO and VM-Ware.
I sent an e-mail to XMG in Germany where i bought the computer (I live in Sweden but it was cheeper to purchase it directly from Germany then going through the local reseller). They have not responded. I then talked to Intel, they blamed either the BIOS or the software. Talked to Microsoft and they had no idea.
The only solution the MSI-people found was to disable speedstep, this made everything work (you loose like a ghz but no more BSOD's). I can't try this since I have no such option in my BIOS.
I've talked to the Swedish reseller just now, pleeding with them to excange my MB so I'll get an Haswell CPU and they could keep this Broadwell. No luck.

I've tried to install Office in both 32- and 64-bit, I've reinstalled windows and all drivers. No luck.

My BIOS is also not listed on the XMG-page. It's version reports as 5.011 and the date of release aug 28 2015. So I can't try and reflash it to see if that solves it, I'm pretty shure an flash of the BIOS listed for my computer would brick it.

Any ideas? I'm at a loss here. I'm still in the window to send it back but I do like it in (almost) every other way, the screen is great and it's blistering fast...

Any better drivers to use with the touchpad? The synaptics one is terrible. No momentum scrolling, 2 finger tap only works when fingers are minimum 1cm apart. The hardware is ok, it is precise. The driver for it however is just horrid

This helped another user in the thread. I'm not shure, I've found no sensitivity so I tried some different settings in the software, well it got better but no where nearly as good as my previous Lenovo Yoga 2 pro. I gave up and connected a proper mouse instead. Sorry to not being able to help you any further. But if you have any better luck fiddling with the settings or drivers please let me know :).
I think sensitivity is palm rejection btw, lowering that to a certain point helped. It's not pointer speed that's for sure.

Hi and welcome! Could you pm me your name and order number so that I can ask our German office to have a look for your email - it's pretty unusual for them not to reply.

It isn't necessarily a CPU driven issue, if you're only getting BSOD in Office then that's very strange indeed. Replacing with Haswell wouldn't be an option unfortunately as I believe we only have Broadwell mainboard chassis left. The lack of BIOS is likely to stop people flashing Haswell MB BIOS on Broadwell MB - I'd be extremely surprised if reflashingthe same BIOS would make a difference though.

I'm sure our support team will get back to you, pls pm me and I will investigate for you!

Hi, that was really fast. I'm still investigating the problem. I've narrowed it down to hal.dll. It's when the CPU change state that something happens and it goes blue.
XMG in Sweden still have Haswell just an FYI.
Sure interchanging BIOS's would be really bad, but still this is an P505 and under BIOS in drivers on the XMG site there are downloadable options for me. If I hadn't checked my BIOS's date I could've easily done something bad there, hopefully there are checks in place to prevent that (although I'm not going to test them hehe).
From what I've found an BIOS update could fix this since it is down to the altering CPU states in speedstep.

Anyway, you asked me to PM you. Rather embarrassingly I can't seem to find that function. If it's not to much of a trouble could you PM me and I'll just reply to it with the info you asked for?

Oh and thanks a ton for getting involved :)

I think you need 5 posts before you can pm so if I pm you, you still couldn't receove it until you have 5 posts!

All our stock is in the main production facility, so what mysn.se has mynde and mysn.co.uk has, but it depends on the GPU you ordered as well - because both CPU and GPU are integrated we don't have all GPU options with Broadwell and Haswell left.

Glad to help, need to get you in touch with support dept in Germany so they can assist you in full :)

I got it and replied. Thanks again, I've been sitting here all day searching for clues and wading through dump-files. A helping hand is so welcome at this point :)

The bios would show it if you could typically. Otherwise, you could maybe try a USB SD card adapter and see if it will recognize it that way.
