I've only been using Linux with UEFI (dual-booted) and have am currently using systemd-boot as my bootloader (GRUB also works with UEFI)
Make sure you're USB is partitioned using GPT.

no, it's functioning at pcie x4 gen 2 speeds because of the hardware limitations. so pretty much 1400MB/s read and 1200MB/s in my particular case at the moment.

oddly enough samsung magician reports higher speeds but i'm not sure how reliable those are. more akin to 1655mb/s read and 1549mb/s write...*edit* retested and got higher results.

okay, for as ssd sure, no problems, but benchmarks will be inferior anyway because pcie gen 2 vs pcie gen 3. now that you made me test this thing though, what's that red bad line mean and how can i fix it? is it because i cloned my old install on it instead of a fresh install?

The limit will be around that 1600-1700MB/sec as that's the real throughput ability of Gen 2 4x.

How much battery time can you get with Linux? I only managed to get 2 hours when on Windows I can always get more than 6 hours (assuming the same moderate usage).

I tried to install the NVIDIA drivers so I could choose to use the Intel Graphics only but that only made me unable to login. After rolling back those changes tried to go with Bumblebee and it just stop booting at all.

I get around 3 hours in both Windows and Linux due to the 4k screen when running only off the Intel GPU.

Working with Optimus is a PITA on Linux. After using Arch for 6 months I finally got a setup working that I like.
I have two little scripts that will switch between Nvidia only mode and Intel/Nvidia through Bumblebee.

I had to manually get Xorg and xrandr working properly for both cases. Since you had bumblebee working previously I'm guessing that's not an issue.
I ended up creating 2 xorg.conf files and having my script switch between the two when run.

If you're getting poor battery life with bumblebee I'm guessing that's due to your Nvidia GPU being powered on even while it's not in use.
Make sure you have bbswitch installed - that'll allow you to power off your Nvidia GPU (the LED power indicator for the Nvidia GPU - on the far left - should be turned off if that's the case)
With bbswitch installed run 'sudo tee /proc/acpi/bbswitch <<<OFF' to turn off the GPU and 'sudo tee /proc/acpi/bbswitch <<<ON' to turn it back on.

Also check out some of the CPU power management tools for linux. They'll let you do things like make the CPU switch to powersaving mode and limit the CPU usage.
I'm personally using TLP to do this.

Did you ever figure out a way to make your Intel 600p bootable? I have P670SG, haven't been able to boot from my Intel 600p NVMe drive. Already flashed the PREMA BIOS. No luck so far.

I meant the system, which your answer says you can, and you can see it. It sounds like it's not quite formatted properly for installation. The easiest way is to delete the partition and then clone your current boot device over.

It doesn't show up in the BIOS. It doesn't show up while selecting a boot device. Since it's an NVMe drive, my motherboard doesn't have the native drivers recognize it. I might be able to boot from the Samsung 960, since those have a driver onboard. The Intel 600p doesn't have that.
I could give cloning my boot partition a try.

well, i now have come across a new problem while gaming for long sessions. the W key starts sticking when the machine gets hot.it doesn't during regular use however. any way i could remedy that? it gets annoying when your characters don't stop moving forward when you let go of the key.

*edit* i've been told on another forum to turn on the fans to max speed to counter this problem. it works, so i'm relaying that information to you all!*

I did, with liquid metal. It went awesome. Temps now top out at 70degC for cpu under heavy load and 68degC for gpu. Haven't used the laptop keyboard since my repaste, so not sure on key sticking right now.

Need some help guys. I have the P650SG with the 4gb 980m. I am trying to connect a Asus VG248 monitor to it and it will not show an option for 144hz 1920x1080. I am using a minidisplay port to DVI adapter. I know the connections on this computer don't go directly to my GPU but could this be the big problem? I have a minidisplay port to displayport in the mail, should be here in a few days so I will give that wire a try... Hopefully I did not waste my money buying this monitor...

What active adaptor are you using to get dual link DVI from the displayport?

Yes, no converter needed for that since they are the same pinout even if physically different. I use a mini-dp to DP cable for my swift monitor.

Do you guys know how much a LVDS cable (or whatever the cable is called that connects to the lcd screen) would generally cost? I guess I should just ask eurocom since I purchased the old m5 pro and I'm having issues with the screen flickering but was just curious.

It looks like I have the auo b156han01.2 according to the back of the lcd panel. Eurocom I think is selling it for about $83... anyone know a good place to purchase for cheaper?

edit found the the whole screen on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PGDBUSW/ref=msg_ctr_lk_pdt

I don't think its OEM though.

    From the listing:

"Also Note: You will receive a 100% compatible screen. The exact brand and part number of the screen you will receive is determined by market availability."

You have to watch out for that.

I would try to check eBay or AliExpress. If you pay with Paypal you can have buyers protection.

I was thinking of selling mine so I could upgrade to a 4k model or a 8 bit panel. But I came to the conslusion that the AUO model is the best all-rounder.

Hello guys. Anyone else is having problems with the Creative X-FI 3 on the Windows 10 Creators Update? I updated my PC yesterday and I noticed that the SoundBlaster won't recognize the sound card as valid anymore, so I can't use it to change my sound settings anymore. I tried reinstalling the SoundBlaster again and the sound driver, but I had no luck.

Don't know, I use direct mode and never used an equaliser. Realtek drivers allow to change some stuff.
I really hate Creative as a company, since they pulled the Vista drivers crap for my Audigy 2 I vowed to never use their stuff.

    o/

Not to mention: Patent trolling Aureal to bankruptcy and killing A3D, monopolizing gaming audio market, proprietarizing OpenAL, threatening daniel_k, making buggy and bloated drivers since forever.

Just a scummy company all-around. When Microsoft gave them the finger by deprecating DirectSound3D in Vista, man that felt good.

I have been having a weird problem with my P650SE (XMG P505) in Windows 10.

I use an external display connected via displayport. Laptop is closed most of the time and display set to "external only".

The problem is when I want to switch back to the laptop display (or both screens). The function buttons on the laptop show me the choices, but none of them do anything.

When I shutdown (so not hibernate or sleep) and restart without the external display connected, the laptop screen in Windows 10 remains blank. Most of the time I can see the bios loading and the windows logo and then the display turns black. Almost like it is switching to the external display (which is not there). The only solution I have is to hard kill Windows by pressing the power button for 5seconds and reboot.

    Any thoughts?

I'm running the latest according to the Device Manager. In noticed that last time I updated the intel drivers, the option to select which screen to use has dissappeared from the system tray access.
Also the internal laptop screen is not recognized by the intel tool, it only sees the external display. Only when I disconnect the external display, do a hard reset and cold boot the internal laptop display comes to life.

Does Vive or Oculus work with the p650sg with 980m? Also has there been any big advancements in the newest version of the p650 (I've been pretty happy with mine but its been 2 years and the upgrade bug begins to itch).

Only systems with the HDMI port wired to the dedicated GPU (and not the IGP) will work with VR headsets and IIRC the S series was all optimus based only. The latest ones have the outputs wired to the dedicated (and can switch the internal) while the 1070 is a lot more powerful than the 980m.
