That's exactly what I have done. If I make it too thin temps just skyrocket

Laptop keeps freezing/crashing and it's driving me crazy. How can I begin to troubleshoot?

Use Windows 10’s Reliability Monitor to Troubleshoot.

It's been going on since I got the thing. The errors are usually different. I'll post the error codes next time they happen.

Random BSOD but usually once every 2 weeks, ALWAYS blamed on ntoskrnl.exe with varying codes like SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION, MEMORY_MANAGEMENT, CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION etc.
Swapped out RAM and SSD already aswell as multiple re-formats, not sure if a driver is to blame, can't track it down.
At my wits end.Last edited: Dec 10, 2017 -
I has the same error codes poping up randomly anyone else?

You tried going with 16gb ram for a while? What frequency ram has? -

Right now I have a fresh copy of Windows installed on a 2nd SSD, no drivers or anything installed (and disconnect net to make sure Windows doesn't install any) and just gonna let it sit there idle whenever i'm asleep or away.
That'll eventually show if it's a hardware or driver cause. -

So to anyone having the random ntoskrnl.exe BSOD issue, I have some friends with MSI Titans and they have been having similar issues. Looks like a windows update causes some kind of driver incompatibility. I have to give credit to @meaker for the solution, although inadvertently so. I read a much older thread about another laptop where he suggested only ever using stock drivers, except for the GPU. I was previously using the Obsidian updater to occasionally look for new drivers which I'd then usually use.
Solution seems to be:
- Download drivers from manufacturers website NOT the latest drivers from chipset manufacturers website.
- Format/Restore windows WITHOUT being connected to the internet (very important otherwise Windows gets drivers from its database)
- Install factory drivers
- Restart as necessary
- Set W10 to DEFER feature updates, but keep security updates
- Connect to the internet and only download the latest GPU drivers

hi everybody! can someone share their Gsync vbios for 1060 and 1070 from p6 series?
-
Hi guys, new here! I've got a Medion Erazer X7849 (6700HQ 32GB GTX1070) which basically uses the same chassis as far as I can tell but after doing a BIOS update (to v1.05.08RME3) from Medions support site the laptop no longer POSTs and just sits there, black screen for 2 mins before turning itself off. Does anyone know a way to recover from this situation? Can you manually reflash the BIOS?
On a different note, has anyone successfully used an NVME m.2 drive in their machine? It appears to support it but just wanted to check!
Many thanks in advance.... -

aaaand BSOD, it was idle and locked and I just came back to login again and boom, BSOD.
Did exactly has valhalla said above, strictly drivers from Clevo's site except for Nvidia, installed offline and deferred all updates for 365 days.
These must be duds....
Btw, a few days ago on my main windows installation I had a BSOD which for the first time ever did not blame ntoskrnl.exe, but was blaming CLFS.sysLast edited: Jan 19, 2018 -
And another BSOD on my usual Windows install, afk for 5mins (and locked), come back to it rebooting after BSOD.
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED ntoskrnl.exe
Again, seems to happen more while idle, but not exclusively.Last edited: Jan 20, 2018 -
Thanks for the feedback.
Problem I've been having for a few months and seems to having just about every night/day.
After a while instead of it sleeping when idle I wake up or return to find the PC still on with a constant fan speed/noise.
The external monitor is not getting any signal so its off. -

No BSOD yet, but it's too early to tell.

Fyi seem my standby problem was caused by some app. Uninstalled and its working fine so far.

Hello. I purchased a P670RS-G back in november of 2016, and recently i have been experiencing overheating issues. Games will throttle sometimes and if I leave my laptop on a smooth wooden table for about half an hour at 30% load on the CPU (according to Core Temp) and next to no GPU load (was watching youtube) it will go over 100°C and then start getting very slow.
This one time I connected it to a TV and it literally shut down from overheating, but probably caused by the surface it was on.
Any tips on what I should be looking for to try to see if anything is actually wrong?
PD: I got IC Diamond on the GPU and Coollaboratory Liquid-Metal something (the best option on HIDEvolution). No overclocking or underclocking at all. -

I disabled Nvidia HD audio as deep as I could (System Devices > HD Audio Controller on PCI Bus 1)
Looking like it's fixed. Why was it just basically us 3 only having this issue? Why was no-one else having it or talking about it?

Confirmed that this is working for me too. Damn you Nvidia HD audio driver! -
I always disabled nvidia audio through audio panel which didn't help. I'll try from dev man.

The driver is still running when you just mute it or disable it in the audio panel.

I switched back to stock drivers a while ago and that made the errors less frequent, but disabling the damn Nvidia HD driver seems to have solved it. Currently at my longest ever period of not having a random BSOD since I bought the laptop right when the 10 series was released on laptops. Had a bunch of other issues that were eventually sorted out with BIOS updates. Oh well, it works great now...
Anyone done a repaste with liquid metal? I repasted with Grizzly Kryonaut a good few months ago but looking for something better... -
I've also been having the random bsod issues, but since disabling the nvidia drivers i haven't seen one Y3t. I think some windows update may have fixed or at least made it happen less often. I think in the last 2 weeks before i disables nv audio i got 1 bsod. I haven't got another since disabling I'll let everyone know if i do. I bought the liquid metal but haven't applied it yet since it seems a lot more messy then say Arctic Silver from the good old days. Maybe a few of us are getting bsods because of the different ram used? because all other components are the same.

No need to disable anything, running nvidia 390.77 smoothly, with Clevo CC, intel XTU and Geforce Xperience installed (yep, love living on the edge...), I don't know what BIOS version I'm using but if something works nice there's no need to "fix" it (I suppose the guys at PCS upgraded it when the laptop was RMAed...), and playing The Witcher 3 on ultra at around 80ºC using Kryonaut, without undervolts or anything...:
The only thing that bothers me is being unable to use the audio jack (headset) on Linux... But that's something I can live with.Last edited: Feb 25, 2018 -

Once again, only a few people were having our BSOD issue. Most systems are just fine, and we couldn't even narrow it down to a Clevo generation as some had a generation newer than mine. Multiple formats, editions of windows, BIOS updates, custom tweaks, the works. All it took was disabling that dang HD Audio driver and our systems are now stable.
I just re-pasted to liquid metal and undervolted my CPU. CPU sits at the mid 70's (from the high 80's) while gaming and the GPU gets to the mid 80's( from the high 80's), but does not ramp the fan up to maximum. So it's a little cooler and quieter. I see that others are getting cooler temps so maybe I should consider a BIOS from a vendor other than Sager? Currently running the 1.05.07RLS2 BIOS.Last edited: Feb 27, 2018 -
All good here still, BSOD free since disabling Nvidia audio devices.
