I have a question related to the thunderbolt 3 for the p750dm I've been checking out several vendors but none mention the thunderbolt 3 on the product info and all I see mentioned is usb 3.1. So my question is has tb3 been confirmed for those models and why isn't it listed as one of the features?
-
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
It is confirmed for P750DM and listed on the product page for this model on a few different Clevo reseller websites.
Unfortunately the P650RE/RG does not appear to include TB3. -
My Sager NP9758 shipped today and will arrive Wednesday next week..
Now all I need is the Samsung 950 Pro to make it complete.jaybee83, Lurker Below and moviemarketing like this. -

My apologies, after some intensive googling I was redirected to earlier pages in this very forum and several vendors here mentioned it was confirmed. Mysn xmg, Hyperbook and eurocom website links also confirmed it on their site pages. What I failed to realize is how the tb3 are using the usb 3.1 connectors now and I was a bit confused at this point until I actually researched the 3.1 tb technology itself to get a better understanding of it and why some vendors call it 3.1 or usb type c. I'm going to leave the link here that helped me understand it a lot better and since I noticed a few others also had some questions on it I hope it helps them too. The news that they're already shipping isn't making it any easier to hold off until there's more specifics on the screens... heh.
On a related note, is it normal for the machines to be physically available before the manuals are available for download? I've been monitoring Clevo's own site, where they've had a placeholder in the download section, but nothing yet. -

Funny, I was thinking the same as you. I can't find anyone posting manuals or drivers but I guess they must exist if the have stock in hand and are building & shipping. I wouldn't think NDA stuff is still in effect....

Excellent news: the Southeast Asian market has Aftershock bringing in the P870DM within "the next one and a half months", according to their representatives.
Furthermore, they have stated that their Skylake iteration of the P750/770DM do not have Thunderbolt 3 capability. This is apparently a reseller option which Aftershock has chosen to give a pass on: they apparently feel the Singapore market doesn't have much demand for Thunderbolt.TomJGX and Grizzlington like this. -
They (DM) all have TB3, they are just looking at older papers as TB3 wasn't just certified by Intel, yet.TomJGX, deepfreeze12, steberg and 1 other person like this.

Yeah, I expect quite a bit of confusion related to the tb3 capability of the dm's since some vendors only have it listed as usb 3.1 without any mention of thunderbot 3. Like I mentioned previously the confusion may be primarily caused by the lack of an actual external tb3 port. Most the new skylake laptops including lenovo p50/p70 and all clevo DM's will use intel alpine ridge which will combo tb3 internally with an external usb c 3.1 port.
-
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
Yes, even the product page on Clevo's website has no mention of TB3. -
...so I just bought the batman 2 months ago, (NP9752-S) what are some major reasons to upgrade to this model versus keeping my current batman and just upgrading to a new compatible CPU and 980?
-
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
For gaming I imagine it's not worth upgrading to the Skylake model. On the other hand, if you are running some applications that can benefit from 64GB RAM... -
For gaming, as @moviemarketing said there's not really a performance difference. In other areas; 4G module support, HDMI 2.0, USB 3.1 (inc Thunderbolt), Flexi-charge, newer X-Fi MB5, new keyboard with N-key rollover (no more max 5 simultaneous key presses - actually this does count as a gaming benefit).....
-
You had a chance to talk to Aftershock? Wow...
-
Ionising_Radiation ?v = ve*ln(m0/m1)
Well, it's pretty easy - their phone number is public (it's on their website). You could do it too. I called them yesterday, and it just so happened that their CEO, Marcus, picked up the line. To be honest - he was somewhat unsure of Thunderbolt itself, but I quoted exactly what he said. He did say that the DM would be released in Singapore within the next month and a half.
I did not ask him about the P640RE because that's apparently still under NDA. However, now that it has been leaked, I can say this: he hinted to me back in May that there'd be a new 14-inch model released by the end of the year.
You must understand, however, that Aftershock is still rather small - much smaller, for instance, than XoticPC or Eurocom. They'll get bigger - they already have branches in Malaysia and Vietnam. Hopefully they become the dominant Clevo reseller in SEA. It's always good to see your country's company go global, especially if your country is very small.
P.S. Not many people know that Razer's CEO, Min-Liang Tan, is Singaporean. Heck, I'm studying in the same school he did for his pre-university. Razer has a big office here, for both design and assembly.
Creative Technology Ltd., the maker of Sound Blaster (which, incidentally, are in our Clevo laptops) is also Singaporean.TomJGX, deepfreeze12, jaybee83 and 2 others like this. -
This is actually quite an important point and you're right, there is a bit of confusion. The "USB 3.1" spec only defines the transfer rate of a port. It doesn't mean that a port is a specific type, nor does it confirm USB power delivery or other features.
The "USB Type-C" socket provides support for Thunderbolt, DP and so on. I must admit that I haven't seen any indication that the Thunderbolt functionality is optional in the DM - then again I don't work in purchasing and we have always had it in our spec so have never asked otherwise! -
Interesting. Thanks for the info, SRSR333. Will talk to them soon as I'm likely to get a P750DM from them.
-
oh ?
ahhhh, ok I'm glad you said what you did and I hope when you have an opportunity that you can ask someone in your sales/purchasing about this topic that I find extremely important. I would need tb3 confirmed before I purchase a dm.
*alert on the clevo webpage it appears that not all models will have usb 3.1 (gen2)*
Browsing the clevo webstite (here is the english link: http://www.clevo.com.tw/clevo_prodetail.asp?id=810&lang=en) I discovered it has several different models p750dm, p770dm, p750dm-g, p770dm-g....now here is the interesting part when looking at the the p750dm or p770dm you will notice it mentions (usb 3.1) in the specs list. Now when looking at the p750dmg or the p770dmg you will notice it says (usb 3.1 gen2) in the specs list. So according to this there is a difference in the port ! but what exactly is this difference???? Also do note that having usb 3.1 gen 2 does not guarantee you will have tb3 it only guarantees 10mbps data transfer. A tb3 port is the only port that grants you 40gbps and is compatible with usb 3.1 connectors.
Okay enough guessing lol we need anyone that has these machines to actually confirm the existence of thunderbolt 3 for each specific model and re-branding version of these (DM) models. This could be very well the reason why Clevo, sager, and aftershock pc do not list tb3 on their spec sheet but companies like Eurocom, mythlogic, and hyperbook actually do list tb3 on theirs. I am now very suspicious that some versions of this will not have tb3.Last edited: Sep 26, 2015 -
@ALL I am trying to tell you since PAGE 2 (May
)that the DMs have TB3 support. I am not guessing, it is a fact. Its just that until they get the certificate from Intel that they can't publicize it. This includes not only their website but also the material they send to their re-seller. So until that is done it won't show up in public printing. The P7xxDM systems are build and done with, there won't be any changes.
I would love to purchase a mouse from your Singaporean Armageddon brand, but the shipping cost equals the price of the mouse...

If you do come here - welcome to the tiny island of no chewing gum, fines everywhere, single-party government and corporal/capital punishment (inb4 ultra-liberal Guardian readers start mudslinging Singapore for its strict punishments).
On the other hand, it's very clean, quiet, reliable, epic public transport, great roads and fairly decent prices, unless you want to buy a car (US$100 000 for a Honda Civic) - but the island is 50 km across. The public transport is more than enough, I feel.
It's also hot - 30 degrees C now (7 pm in the evening), near-100% humidity and it feels like 35 degrees. So expect higher CPU/GPU temps

That was a crappy representation of Singapore (I mean the movie). Same goes for Hitman: Agent 47. Singapore also doesn't look like how it does in COD:BO2 and in BF3. We need a more accurate representation of the country, especially in Western media.
It's not a police state, nor is it anything like North Korea, or even China. It might have harsh punishments but you don't have drugs (or at least, not obvious), no gangs, and women can walk peacefully in the middle of the night even in bikinis (but they usually don't wear bikinis).
You have 1 Gb/s internet here at the cheap rate of S$40(US$28) per month. The more common gentlemen's sites are blocked but you can easily bypass the block with a VPN or some URL tweaks. Netflix is arriving at our shores next year.
Yeah, Singapore whips (or more accurately, canes) people who overstayed visas, foreign vandals, thieves and other somewhat serious miscreants, but that tells people not to mess with us.Last edited: Sep 27, 2015TomJGX likes this. -
I used it just to welcome him haha. Very true that the media shows Singapore as something else but it's just entertainment.

No disrespect was intended to you in reality I feel like I'm actually the one guessing because the public information regarding tb3 on the DM models are pretty vague. what I can't seem to understand is why other pc's such as the thinkpad p50/70 and alienware already have tb3 with usb type c advertised officially in their brochures yet Clevo won't advertise theirs, this is the main cause of my suspicion. Why does clevo need a certificate from intel and is thunderbolt support support the same as having actual thunderbolt3?Prema likes this.
-
I won't/can't comment on the status of the Thunderbolt "authentification" in Clevo laptops, that's not really something that would be fair for me to get involved with, because whatever I say it will raise questions. Nothing sinister here, just restricted with what I can say.
What I can say however is that the DM have always had Thunderbolt from the start, through the USB C connector. In the wider arena, Thunderbolt is Intel technology and like a lot of technology in IT, it has to be certificated/approved. The bottom line is that, as @Prema said, there is support for TB3 - any speculation is due to what comes down to a bit of marketing nonsense
-
haha thx for that, its a very nice summary indeed
ive already worked in singapore previously, but its gonna be a new experience for my gf
