You will need alcohol pads and a VERY careful hand to clean the liquid metal off before you can use normal thermal paste again.

Well, performance keeps going down. Can barely keep PC at idle with it anymore. Definitely gpu now, not a power issue. If I get another 980m, are there any issues when purchasing a Dell/MSI/Clevo card or are they all plug and play? I know it used to be a big issue in the past but not sure nowadays. It's either that or wait for a 1060 and a vbios and I honestly don't want to sit around for a long time not being able to do much with my laptop.

Yes it gets to 120hz but I would risk burning out the lcd which is something I don’t want to risk, plus colour starts to degrade and the screen starts to get dimmer the higher the refresh rate.

I’m just gonna go for it and get the 4k edp cable for the p775dm as I already have a 4k screen available at my bosses repair shop.

Hopefully the motherboard connectors are the same and the p771dm-g allows 4k, if not I’m upgrading to the gtx 1070 anyway.

The upgrade will be posted here that’s for sure.

I've not seen a screen burn out yet but if it can do 120hz then 90hz is a happy middle ground.

Thanks for the mention, I actually do have a deal infact, if anyone is interested or looking for 980M.
We also have 1070 for P771 however - the perfect vbios to get it to run in systems using eDP is not 100% yet. So like only Optimus is running these so far. We need more time.
We will do our due diligence and when time comes we will share, naturally of course.

Does anyone know the rough cost of upgrading the p771dm-g to a 1070 and potentially a 4k screen. It keeps crossing my mind but thinking maybe I would be better to cut and run and sell my u706 which still has over a years warranty left.

I would ask woodzstack since they are going to be selling them but state it's not quite ready yet.

    Likely a fair amount though.

To follow up with the convo; (Thank you for referencing me guys !)

Well, me and plenty of others offer 3rd party services for upgrades as well, especially if your buying from them as well.
That way they can not only guarantee the quality and warranty but the installation job too.

Many people think to bring such tasks to repair shops, but from my experiences or the ones that have been shared with me, these guys everywhere unanimously seem to not know how to upgrade laptops for thier life.
The people on this forum however, it's like thier day job or something. lol.

Maybe I can help you figure out what options are available to you within whatever area you live in, or what is considered a reasonable amount to expect for such services, this can maybe help you shop around.

Like for starters, which 4K panel do you want, do you have the model number ?
An easy to find it, would be look at the upgrades available on various sites selling your respective laptop and see what they offer, that way you know it's offered and thus compatible, then you only have to check with your respective clevo reseller.

Alternatively once you have the panel model , you can google it, find it from various sources and deduct what you think it's value is based on that and how much shipping and importation plus the service of installation might be, as well as figuring out if it has the same pin configuration as the panel your using right now (in case you need a new cable)

As for the EURO GTX 1070, which works via Optimus for your laptop, you have a select few vendors with it for sale. Essentially me and my partner, EUROCOM
(just saying, not trying to advertise, please do not report me to the mods and cry about it, just trying to help someone)
    - but there are other upgrade options from others as well, like MSI 1060 or the EURO 1060 or like previous "Maxwell" cards if your card is dying can be found everywhere.

Hope this helps you guys make the right decision and view all your possible options!

    Cheers

All Clevo desktop CPU models have iGPU disabled in ordert o support SLI & 3D (EDIT: also g-sync & 120Hz) as well as due to Optimus causing a signal delay rendering it unusable for things like VR.

As Prema says, all Clevo socket CPU models bypass the iGPU completely.

In addition, VR is no problem at all for the newer models which do have Optimus, because the external video ports which you would connect an HMD to are hardwired to the dGPU. You could add G-Sync/NVSR into the equasion too, because that requires bypassing the iGPU also but is achievable in some of the Optimus models which have a MUX switch.

Ah, yes! g-sync as well as 120Hz support belong to that list as well!

Also to be exact having a mux or direct dGPU connection is not Optimus.
Clevo stopped paying NVIDIA licenses and went with MS-HYBRID solution to support that.

Fun-fact: I used a modded W230SS firmware (Optimus system) to play with my HTC Vive, before I had a DM3.
It sort of worked but forcing the GTX860M (also modded to pass minimum VR requirements) to go through the Intel GPU (Optimus) would cause some delay and flicker here and there, which in return caused a bit of motion sickness. :p

Yeah, I've stopped bothinering to explain the differences between Optimus and MS-HYBRID, it's easier just to call it Optimus because that's what everyone understands ;-)

Not surprised on the motion sickness! We don't sell VR recommended systems below GTX 1070 and though GTX 1060 is what Nvidia recommends most of our customers are using VR on the high end so need much more power - dual P6000s seem to be the in thing at the moment especially for the 5K and up HMDs being used by industry!!!

PM me and bring some patience as I don't have current things uploaded ready for use and have to do everything on a case to case basis until the new site goes live (you can click my signature to stay posted).
Also be careful with flashing random stuff from the net!
I am currently in the process and 'cleaning the net' from my own older revisions, as they can cause some serious problems due to newer driver and hardware revision changes.

I wish we would have SLI support on Notebook Quadros and the proper P5500 with 2560 Shader being released alongside MXM-B heatsinks for Pascal P7/P8 systems.
That overclocked P5200 (aka 1070) doesn't cut it.

Dual Quadro have always just worked on different rendering tasks though rather than using an sli bridge so you can see why they don't include it.

That's true and one thing. The other is that the desktop Quadros all have an SLI port to boost the single display frame rendering performance or VR SLI.
If they want us to invest such money on Mobile Quadros, we may also want be able to utilize them across a variety of tasks.

Once devs move their projects over to DX12, the 'mGPU' (multi GPU) support will be native due to developers low level hardware access and no longer require custom driver support by either NVIDA or AMD...SLI and Crossfire brandings are already gone.

    Hi,

Just letting you guys know I ordered the 4k p775dm cable for my p771dm-g as the connector is identical on the motherboard for both versions.

I will post here to show if the 4k panel is supported on the p770dm-g series.

If it doesn't work it was only £12 anyway.

Hey gentlemen, small issue I'm hopeful i can get resolved. My 750DM-G flexicharger isn't working as intended. My system charges until the assigned stop point 80% but does not begin discharging to the start point 40%.

I'm recently on my second battery and I'm using this feature to increase it's life expectancy. Any help here is appreciated. Thx guys.

I think it is not supposed to work this way... I think it's supposed to charge to stop point and then only allocate energy from wall outlet.
Discharging happens only, when only on battery. I would not want that priceless feature otherwise. Plugged into the wall outlet, and if it is
over 40%, it does not charge. My only problem with this is that 40% is minimum. I'd let it down to 15%

By the way, according to my suppliers the P751TM-G uses the same motherboard as P751DM-G but the TM has the GTX 1070, is this to lead me to believe that the 1070 will now fit into the DM?

Im confused as I thought all 10 series GPU had a different size and possibly a power cable needed from mobo?

    Hi,

I'm still using my P750DM-G with my 980M GPU and have a few questions.

Is there a e-GPU solution available? Am I able to make use of the thunderbolt port and run an external GTX 1080? From what I've read on this forum, there's no way to upgrade the internal GPU without changing the mobo.. so if it can't handle an external GPU, does this mean I'm stuck with the 980M for the life of the laptop?

I purchased the laptop on the hope that the internal components could be upgraded, but seems like only RAM and HDD/SSD can be changed.

Correct me if I'm wrong. :)

Thanks! So to my understanding, there's no need to modify the bios or anything?

I can purchase any external gpu cases and pair it with a 1070 and it should work right out the box?

    For example:
Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1070 Gaming Box

Has anyone tried the p750dm-g with the akitio node / node pro?
I'm leaning towards buying the node pro and pairing it with a 1080 since my other components (cpu, ram, ssd etc) will still last many years.
