Missing SMDs need to be added, can someone with a green PCB try to do that and find out what nominal values are for these 4 resistors? Plus, whats the inverse voltage value on the back of the MXM where are missing those 2 resistors which go in the chip directly, because on the normal cards on SM BUS lanes I measured different values for example 1060 has higher voltage drop than 1080 (~800 against ~650 mV respectively).

These are easy to solder/desolder. The problem is what nominal values should those resistors have.
Hoping someone with green PCB can do the measurement, with card off the MXM slot.

If just measuring the resistance across one device it should not matter if it's in the slot.

If it's installed in a clevo then you can measure at least the ones from the top, but for bottom ones still need to pull out the card.

And currently I am modding the heatsink to fit with any 3.0B cards standard shape.

Though, when I launched a test, I noticed that the 1070gtx boost clock will go up to ~1800 MHz, though max boost is 1645, is this normal?

Guys sorry for stupid question but could you point me on the explanation why only MSI 1xxxm cards are working in P770DM-g. I know that there is something with hardware because ppl mentioned about this in several threads but cant find the detailed one =(

Only that MSI and the Aetina (green PCB) are following old MXM 3.0B standard pinout.

With no case mods, 1070 3.0B ones, with case mods, even 1080.
About compatibility, haswell CPU worked fine with gecube 1070, not sure about clevo.

Case mods needed to fit non 3.0B cards, like msi 1070.

    Plug and play, not likely.

Hi guys I have P750DM-G with 6700K and GTX980m and I am looking into upgrading it into GTX1070 3.0b, Is 230W power brick enough for such upgrade and do I need any special/modded BIOS to upgrade to this card or it is plug and play? I havent found any such upgrade thread so far..

Also, how can I identify a suitable 120/144hz display that is compatible with this setup. What displays are compatible?

They might be thinner, so long as they are the same pin count and connector you could use double sided tape and spacers if they are and it would still work.

In the last days I did some reinstall of drivers on the P750DM-G because the keyboard backlight did not start automatically.

Suddenly spotted that the lightbar option was gone, tried everything even clean windows and reflashed BIOS, but lightbar is gone.

I assume the EC firmware broke?

Not, sure, did also the 2nd EC firmware reflash with original backup, there was a difference between the images, but after this still did not worked. Checked again the EC firmware and it did not change. Reflashed both BIOS and EC, this did not change anything at all, no lightbar and for example the hwinfo64 now starts very fast (~3s) before this it did scan a lot of hardware (~10s).

Seems it is now dangerous to install drivers?

Also did CPU swap sky/kaby lake, no effect. Installed other versions from DM2, TM, even less things displayed.

Tragedy has struck me today. After 5 years my P770DM cut power on me suddenly and will not turn back on. The thing is, the power light stays orange when the adapter is plugged in, so it detects it. But If I press the power button it flashes green for about half a second then goes back orange. If I hold the power, it flashes green and orange, as if it is trying to turn on (LED turns green) but something is tripping and it stops (LED goes orange) then tries again and loops. It does this on battery only, AC only and AC + battery. Tried pulling bios bat to reset bios it did nothing.

I am really hoping it is tripping some power protection circuit and that the rest of the components are safe, I'm pulling it apart to inspect the board but if anyone has any inkling of an idea of whats wrong here it would be helpful. I have no experience with laptop power circuitry so it'll take a while for me to analyze and understand the board schematics.

I think I found my problem. I saw an SMD cap fall as I took out the 980m. Unfortunately I lost it but on close inspection of the card, I found 2 caps missing from the board.

pretty sure they are caps from other pictures online. Unfortunately, there are no schematics online I can find. Can anyone help identify the values of these?

From checking resistance to ground and to each terminal, it does seem that they are in parallel between ground and PWR_SRC. Some of the other caps nearby are also in parallel with the missing parts. I tried desoldering one to measure but for some reason I couldn't get it to come off.

@Khenglish would you know what these caps are? Most of the other info I can find of the 980m pertain to the mosfets and surrounding circuitry.

If they're both on PWR_SRC then they need to be rated for 25V.

The smaller one is either 1 or 2.2 uF. Putting bigger in is fine. The 980m actually has issues with there not being enough PWR_SRC caps when overclocking.

The big C508 I am surprised to hear is on PWR_SRC. Typically caps that size on the 980m are not for that voltage. If it is PWR_SRC though, I would guess it's 4.7uF.

Thank you! I'll try to source some of those caps. I was able to desolder one of the smaller one to measure, but while doing so, I seem to have knocked off one of the small resistors:

do you know the value of this one? I really don't want to desolder a different one as they're a bit too small for my skills and equipment, and I always manage to lose them every time.

Thank you for all the help, I really appreciate it.

@Meaker@Sager My only real issue is the lack of good tips for this kind of job, I've done it before using my university's and company tools. I just graduated so I usually would use my Uni's equipment. Actually if only they were open I'd get my friend to do it or let me in the lab.

So my GTX 980m in my P751DM-G (XMG U506) died after 4 years and Schenker is unable to get a replacement.
My question is: I found multiple GTX 980m from China on ebay for 200€. Can I just replace mine with any GTX 980m? If so, does anyone know a source preferably in Europe that sells new GTX 980m?
Or would it even be possible to switch to a newer card?

    Thanks for any help!

    ---Edit:
Since the 980m was easily enough for my needs I am thinking about switching to a 970m. Can that be easily done or is there something I need to know?
