The 1070 should still be able to get high frame rates for some time if you tweak the quality settings. It depends on the kind of visuals you prefer. I would recommend a good quality bag which should protect the machine while traveling.

Is there anyway to keep the CPU at 4.5ghz on battery. It is pretty annoying to have it go to 2.4ghz anytime I need to work with it unplugged. I do some CPU intensive work and it makes things crawl. I have NP9172 from Sager with 7700k. I tried setting minimum cpu state in windows power but that does not seem to help. Any suggestions or just try to always find a plug? I work from my car often so I am working on adding a power outlet in car since the laptop draws more than the outlet so need to make my own dedicated circuit but would be nice to just stay on battery at times.

You'd overheat it and the battery might not last one hour in that situation...

Kind of frustrating since my p650 had a higher clock on battery than my p775.

Plugged in my new laptop wins but on battery my old laptop wins. I bought multiple batteries since i am lucky to get 1 hour out of one when working so I'm ok with swapping them often. I didn't think about battery temp though.

I will continue with my plan to add a dedicated circuit in my car for my laptop.

My wife drives and I work from passenger seat instead of taking days off and that worked well with p650 but not so well with this laptop.

If you really want to be scientific about it, you should keep it heated to around 80C.

I know, but the point is to see how well Liquid metal can be stored without being in a closed container/syringe. As some complained that Liquid metal drying out in the syringe  Especially Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra.

Hi guys, what software do you use for fan control? I see Clevo Control Center not enough to fully manage them.

No other fan control will work with Clevo's. You can force max fans with Fn+1 if needed.

I have been reading reviews of the coffee lake processors and wondering if we will be able to put them in our 775dm3's? I have 7700k at the moment and bought it with hopes of just upgrading CPU next year but then there was chat about different socket but looks like the socket will be the same.

This is my first non BGA laptop so hoping I can upgrade like I wanted. It might be too early to say but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask from those in the know.

Worst case has anyone ever sent their laptop back to reseller for MB, CPU, GPU and bios upgrade for a smaller price than buying the whole laptop again? I guess that depends on if the next gen MB and video card will fit in the older form factor.

Sad to say, but it is confirmed that while coffee lake does use the same LGA1151 socket it will require a 300 series chipset.

Nobody is sure if there are electrical differences in the socket or if it will be a software lock. So technically there is a chance to get them working with z170/z270 but I wouldn’t hold your breath.

I will keep my fingers crossed, an article I just read said 300 first but 100 and 200 might follow.

If not is it completely unheard of to send laptop to reseller to have internals replaced to save some money?

This is my 4th laptop in 3 years through my job and I bragged about replaceable parts to get it, so hopefully I can come up with something to stay out of the dog house.

For my job we stay on latest generation hardware and that is why I have gotten so many new laptops. Our minimum spec is 4k rendering and it can't go below 60fps and vr capable. Once the software no longer runs at 60fps at 4k I order better hardware.

For desktop that has proven easy, In the same time frame I have had 1 desktop. Laptop it has been a burden, when I bought this laptop it was with hopes of upgrading cpu and gpu. Looks like I didn't do enough research.

Time will tell maybe I am just excited by the announcement and won't need a new cpu anytime soon. Gpu I will need so here's to hoping the next gen fits but reading this forum I am not optimistic.

I had to back to -139 because I had a BSOD while playing GTA.

    @John@OBSIDIAN-PC

    Hi João,
I think I had better temperatures when I didn't use ThrottleStop, its that possible?
    TS in GAMING mode.
    CCC in entertainment mode.

Last time we reduced the undervolt a bit.
Without TS you will use the default undervolt, which is around -100mv (bios default).
With TS in Gaming profile you should be around -139 / -140
Also there´s no point in having high CPU clock in most games, you will be creating heat by the CPU and reducing the GPU boost due to having less temperature room for boost (they use a shared cooler).
If you want to reduce the temperature even more (only do it if it´s way above 80ºC, like hiting 90ºC) then just use our online chat and we will tune it for what you want ;)
Don´t be afraid of using our online chat, we are always ready to tune it for your usage and preference.

Yeah, I hit sometimes > 90ºC in gaming mode while playing GTAV with UV at -140mV more or less.
I've never seen such temps in entertainment mode (CCC), could be that entertainment mode has lower clock speed that mode than TS Gaming mode?
Anyways this afternoon I'll test it more and talk with you as you suggested, thank you.

BTW, GPU temps are always really cool, I've never seen the GPU above 75ºC in any scenario.

TS Gaming mode is designed for max performance with high CPU and GPU usage, it will sustain higher clocks, but just hit me up on the online chat, and i will test everything again and tune it a bit different.

There is certainly a balance to be struck when tweaking and giving the GPU more headroom is usually the best option except for a couple of exceptions.

I've been running 4.5 at 1.08V static ever since I decided 4.8 was just a bit too warm for my liking lol.
I still need to take the time to find statics for 4.6 and 4.7 to see which I'll daily.

That's why ThrottleStop is a great tool. 4 selectable profiles for what you're up to :) Especially if your laptop's cooling comprises a shared HS.

any clue what could it be?

I have this issue with my X4E2 (p750dm2-g) where the CPU starts @798MHz (but won't go higher) every time it restarts. I need to reset BIOS every time it restarts to get it to its normal clock speed. Anyone have this? How would I go about fixing this?

    The CPU is an i7 7700 (non-K)

I have a similar issue but with k version and 775 model. I just open the clevo control panel and hit default in cpu overclock. Then save and it goes back to normal speed. It seems random but certain cases always cause it like bsod but those are my fault. Once I found a good clock and voltage it stopped happening so often but every now and then I still get it.

Not sure how to fix permanently or if any of this info helps but never realized others had the issue.

I believe so, I just had it happen on first boot since yesterday. I was playing with clocks last night though so I assume it's related. The other time I saw it last week I was on battery and battery always gives me headaches.

    Hi,

    I bought a Clevo P775DM3-G from PC Specialist (7700K and 1080 with 4K screen).
When playing in 4K the screen turns black after a few minutes and I have to restart the computer manually (button).
I also have a problem playing League of Legends where I get 10 frames per second at 1080p res, which is kind of annoying on a 2500 euros laptop...
Heat problem ? Something else ?

Already planned a delid and repaste with Grizzly Conductonaut. I'll also buy a cooling stand.

Do you guys have any useful links (bios updates, drivers, etc...), as I don't trust the drivers on the CD they gave me with the laptop to be up to date, and I don't know if Windows Update itself is enough to update everything.

    Thanks for reading

Check temperatures first before doing anything that might impact your warranty.

What you describe is not normal for a stock machine.

    Hello again,

Thanks Adbear and whoever made the Obsidian driver utility, a lot of my drivers weren't automatically updated by Windows Update, especially the Nvidia driver. I now actually feel like I'm playing on a GTX 1080 (for example, Fortnite at 4K fully maxed out is buttery smooth compared to the constant stuttering/crashes that forced me to downgrade the graphics a bit, which hurts a bit with the most powerful mobile gpu available at this day).
Oh, and League of Legends happens to be playable again.

    To Meaker@Sager
30 min playing Fortnite at 4K fully maxed out:
CPU between 75 and 80 degrees
GPU between 85 and 90 degrees
    Hot, but no stuttering/crashes
    Delid/repaste and a cooling stand won't hurt.

Also I've got a 500GB 960 EVO in the HDD compartment which can heat up to 80 degrees during loading times (noticed it when alt-tabbing while playing). Is it normal ? (I have a second to be shipped on Saturday which will go on the second M.2 port closer to the hot parts of the machine, which is a bit worrying given the temps of this one).

    Thanks for reading

Go back a few pages, many of us have been having high temperature 2 on Samsung m.2 drives. During atto benchmark I can get over 90c. It started happening about a month ago. I never solved the issue and I don't think others did either. I added heatsink to my m.2 and it only blips above 80 every now and then compared to almost constant before. Hopefully someone finds something because it is worrisome.

Nice cpu temps, mine will hit 102 easily. I have to run it at 4.2 with -144 to stay at 90 or lower. My gpu barely reaches 80 though even when pulling 215w.

If you find anything on drive temp post it as a few of us have similar issues with Samsung m.2.

What drivers are you using for nVME? I just ran a quick Atto test and in my p750dm2 my 960 evo with a heat sink got to 72c max.

I'll check driver in morning but I've never changed it so whatever came with the laptop.

How are you measuring temperature? What I have found is temperature 1 in hwinfo is fine but temperature 2 is too high. So is your value for temperature 1 or 2?

It started happening after updating hwinfo a month or so ago. I wondered if it was an issue with that software but don't know another way to monitor drive temperature.
