Initial batches are always entirely eaten up by machines. -
anyone tried vr on p870dm yet?
-
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Should run basically the same as a comparable spec'd desktop. When the 980 desktop card launched, I believe Nvidia was using a p870dm as one of their demo units for it at that release.LoneSyndal and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
I was looking for a more definitive answer from someone using 980m's in sli on the oculus or hive. The SteamVR performance test always puts me at the ready mark, sometimes slightly over and sometimes slightly under, but at least it seems to be testing the hardware. Oculus just seems to fail me based on having a mobile gpu.
Please share your experience if you are using VR.Last edited: May 3, 2016 -

Make sure you are adding the -multigpu command to the startup option in steam settings for the VR benchmark. I always score above a 9.5 which is maxed on the slider. 980m sli is way, way more than enough power to run VR but I don't have a headset.....yet! -
Used vive on mine, its only got a single 980m and performance is preety good, not sure what to do tho wait on pascal release or get another 980m
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Depends how your game play is now, if it is up to your standards then wait.
-
Are the frame rates consistent for all games you tried? Have you overclocked the GPU, if yes than by how much.
Owners who have received their rift cv1/vive units please post your testing/gaming results and opinions(with GPU(s) used and OC if applicable)

Not oced or anything, sadly due to work comittments when i get time i just game. Not much issues, ive only tried the lab stuff on steam. Still to try elite dangerous but that eats into my sleeping hours so im staying away from it.

Gta is pretty good but noticing performance issues in witcher 3.

I can't remember if Nvidia was using a P870DM from us or not, but HTC used one (XMG U726) on their press tour of Europe for the Vive. We have also carried out extensive testing with this chassis and single GTX 980, runs absolutely fine ;-)
The timescale of a couple of months between the Nvidia "launch" / "announcement" and the "availability" to customers would be more accurate.Last edited: May 4, 2016Prema, TomJGX, god1729 and 1 other person like this. -
I am starting to wonder if selling my phoenix was a mistake since I have no gaming machine to carry me until when titan pascal launches..... or I am just getting dysentery from using a low powered ultrabook....

Now that is something sad. Having only a low power ultrabook seems like a pain.
And this really does not sound nice. What exactly is the problem with people living somewhere?
I live in Romania, which is not something to brag about. Cannot say I would ever want to judge people based on their location, I write software, games, novels, while Romania does not have the best reputation as a country.
Can anyone explain to me what is VR and how we can use it? It works with headset and any game? Like I can play any already existent game on a VR headset, or games need to be designed for it? Can I watch movies on a VR headset? Only 3d movies? I sincerely am not up to date, seemed like a gimmick last time I tried, but I her they are becoming more and more serious. -
It's just a stereotypical view
-
Seriously dude?!...OK, I'll try my best to be brief.
1)Virtual Reality is when a computer generates an environment, real or imagined, and simulates a user's physical presence within it in a way that allows the user to interact with it. This is currently achieved with a head mounted display with sensors to track your head movement, controller(s) for input and a computer for processing
2)you'll need a decent gaming pc (gtx 970(desktop) minimum), a VR headset(oculus rift, HTC Vive, etc) and a controller.
3)games designed for VR give the most immersive experience, that said many existing games have been modified to work in VR. The rest of the games can be played using 'virtual desktop' which is basically a virtual floating monitor/display(s) within a virtual space, running Windows.
4)all existing movies(2D and 3D) can be watched using the same 'virtual desktop' app, or through another app that simulates a virtual cinema for a big screen experience. The real VR experience though is watching 360 degree movies where you stand right in the middle of the action.Last edited: May 4, 2016 -
I need some information, my only hesitation to buy this laptop is the sound quality, if anybody can tell me which sound better for movies and video games effects?
-
Mate, you cannot buy a 4000$ power house and want it to have 20HZ-20KHz sound. It sounds very good, and loud, and if you install a system wide EQ app, you can probably make it a beast in sound. But it won't beat a 4000$ dedicated sound system. Will not sound as bad as under 300$ speakers though.
Thanks a lot. That seems very interesting. I will be sure to learn more about VR.
What is the cheapest VR compatible headset, and what is the best so far ? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Have you looked at SLI scaling for that title for one?
-
I'm listing only the popular ones.
For PC-
Oculus Rift - $599 (excluding oculus touch motion controller which will be sold separately when launched, currently ships with Xbox controller)
HTC Vive - $799 (including custom motion controller)
For PS4-
PSVR - $399, October launch(core bundle-includes proprietary VR processing/graphics amp unit, excludes move camera and move controlers)
For Android phones -
Samsung Gear VR - $99 (works only with Galaxy S6, S6 edge, note 5, S7 and S7 edge)
Google cardboard - $15 to $120(excluding non certified viewers) or you can make one yourself(instructions on Google website).
Read up on each of them and decide which suits you.
Edit: PSVR launch bundle(core bundle + move camera, 2 move controllers and additional content disc) $499.

Oculus and Rift will have the highest image quality, but also require a larger investment just for the higher end computers needed. The PSVR could be interesting, as it could help bring VR to more people and help the growth of VR.
There are other companies working on VR headsets, but the ones god1729 listed are the main players right now. -
You mean Rift and Vive

Small update on the laptop shutdown issue: I previously had sleep settings enabled when on battery only, which I then disabled. I ran Unigen Valley again, and the GPU at least gets up to 87C before crashing now.
I also noticed my PCH temp at the time of crash is 114C. Might it be hitting it's thermal threshold and causing the crash? If so, I imagine the only fix is to increase my fan speeds to compensate.
Can anyone let me know what their PCH temps are under heavy load?
ThanksLast edited: May 5, 2016 -
65C at max after FireStrike/Valley/Overwatch

Holy cow that's low compared to mine. I'm looking at it idling right now and it's at 88C. Ambient temps are ~25C.
If that's accurate, I'm shocked. -

I was browsing in 3dmark.com for 3dmark11 results and it came up with this
But the result can no longer be found.

Have you checked if the heatsinks are properly mounted? Have you undervolted your processor?
-
I would literally buy Oculus or Vive, only to have Neptunia in VR, or to watch anime. Sounds like fun, I should give it a try, when I am able to find one of these things on demo.

My next step is to check the heatsink on the PCH, which looks like it'll be a chore. As far as undervolting, no I haven't, everything is bone stock, including the bios.
I've got a ticket open with Sager, sent them some logs and screenshots. They're going to compare the values to a reference system.
I must say, so far I'm blown away by the Technical support team, at least in this initial stage. Their communications with me have been rapid and it's refreshing to find people who are knowledgeable in their trade.Last edited: May 10, 2016 -

Been wondering why brother fox has been not as active. Guess we know now.
Anyways just ordered a slave 980m from woodstock cant be bothered on waiting on a pascal.
And what cooler are people using? I broke the one i had been using for my m18x r2 for past few years. -
Unfortunately not and it's confirmed 980 SLI will not be available due to the PCB size.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this.

Can anyone confirm for me whether or not this laptop supports WAKE ON LAN?

For info guys: “Notebookcheck's Top 10 Gaming Notebooks” updated page from May 2016 - http://www.notebookcheck.net/Notebookcheck-s-Top-10-Gaming-Notebooks.98628.0.html - 4 notebooks from Clevo!!!

Well, these are probably the best we are going to see.
At least this will make more advertising for Clevo, probably they will increase their quality even more, and probably lower prices too.oveco likes this. -

Btw, someone in touch with Clevo, can we set up a kick starter type page for a model like the P570WM. What I mean by this is finding a specific number of orders necessary to make it worth Clevo's time, then doing a commitment type page where you don't pay until a critical amount is reached to make it worth Clevo's while, but are required to pay, at least a portion, upon reaching that number. Thoughts on this? It would obviously apply to Skylake-E/Cannonlake-E (or amd Zen based Opteron server chips set for 2017), sli, etc...

That seems really devoted to the hobby.
Don't worry, they only make what makes them money.
Buckets of money at that, they know how to do business. -
I understand business. This was mentioned for those that have been dying for a p570wm replacement. The fact the market is so niche, Clevo does not currently, to my knowledge, plan to replace it. That being the case, for those enthusiasts wanting this, this would resolve the answer of proving demand while getting assurances.
It is the fact they know business that may prevent a laptop like this from being created. Hence, providing a solution that could accomplish everyone's goals.
