The drivers can make an overclock unstable because it releases a bottleneck at one point and then stresses another part more, it could mean your overclock just is not stable.

Sorry for bumping an old post @tgipier , here's how firestrike scores are calculated

These can be found on pages 23-24. The document also contains the scoring for the other tests.

I've never actually looked in to how they score those tests. Good to know on that. Thanks for finding that and posting.

Dont suppose anyone knows where i can get the bracket for the 2nd hdd quickly ? Just opened it up to find its not there!. Also upgraded the ram service manual states bottom ram slots are primary but this one had one ram stick there and 2 below keyboard. Compared to the m18x r2 im liking the layout alot

You could reach out to the seller you got the computer from and see if they can get you a hdd bracket. Otherwise, maybe from another Clevo seller.

You still might be able to reach out to the Clevo reseller of it (like if it was from Sager, Eurocom, Mythologic, etc... somewhere on the model). Worth a shot.

My brackets were in a plastic ziplock bag with the manuals. Also had those foam bracers for the smaller drives in it.
Amazing how much stuff Prostar got into that little bag! -
Quick Question for those of you who have had one for a while now. I just got mine a few days ago (the Sager NP9870-S with 32GB of RAM, 512GB Samsung 950 SSD, etc.) and so far it's working great (I did have a few issues with the killer wireless but that seems to have gone away with the latest version of the drivers/suite). However, the question I do have is the HDMI port. Since it's recessed in the back of the case, I can't get my cable to connect properly (I got it for a few seconds by pushing on it a bit, but as soon as I let go it went away). Has anyone else had issues using it? Otherwise I'm just going to get a MiniDP adapter..
-
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
didn't have an issue with it since I use a long high quality HDMI cable
I had to disable the below settings though otherwise the screen on the TV would have the wrong size or won't display the content properly:

Yeah, I'm just trying to use whatever came with the monitor which is what I was using with my desktop. However the connector isn't long enough to get a good connection to the port (as I mentioned, if I hold it and push on it just a bit, it connects and works fine, just if I let go of it it comes loose and goes back off). I've checked every other PC/Laptop I have around, and none are recessed and it works fine with all of them. So it's the small plastic mold that's causing the problem. I'll just switch to a MiniDP to DVI cable (I have one of those here somewhere for my Macbook Pro).

Not as of yet. No new mobile graphics cards info has been released yet (NDAs), and I don't think there have been any big leaks as of yet.

We have quite a good idea about the power/clock curves of these cards though, it would be interesting to experiment with a desktop 1080 and try to limit the power draw down a bit.
-
Im waiting for the TB2 to TB3 (or vice versa) adapter to become available and ill give the eGPU setup a shot. Really interested in seeing how far TB3 can push the 1080.
If that works well , i doubt id even want the mobile version inside the system.
And im sure that setup will be way cheaper than a dedicated card.
I might be completely wrong here, but wont NVIDIA want to see what the eGPU market is going to be like before releasing dedicated high end mobile versions?Last edited: May 20, 2016 -

I think it wont fare as well as an internal card, for external you may want to aim for big pascal. AMD cards have also historically coped with lower PCI-E bandwidth levels.
-
Yeah, thats the main concern, the limited number of lanes. But then again if we are even able to get around 35Gbps of throughput. That would be golden for most current gen titles.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It will be interesting to see how the big chips coming after the current ones from AMD and Nvidia compare over the external link and if either have an advantage in that case.
-
The mobile looks promising:

Edit: after re-looking at the scores, it looks like an sli 980 (notebook). The processor performance falls between 6700hq to 6820hk/6920hq. Probably a Kabylake prototypeLast edited: May 21, 2016Georgel likes this. -

We want news ^_^
We have to keep buying those laptops for a reason, and now with 1080 out, this will probably be the reason . -

BTW, I see your sig you have a P870DM, did you buy it or not yet?Georgel likes this. -
I have been having my finger on trigger for 1 month now.
Well, then Pascal was around the corner, and now that it actually came out, I think I might get something Pascal based, because Pascal seems to be faster than 980.
All I care is 4K + adobeRGB to be able to map content and colors faster for my games at the moment, I am not entirely biased either way
. A P870 with GTX 980 should do the job with ease, but then... why not invest in something that will last me longer ?
Also, you seem to be having an Eurocom Sky X9 now, didn't you have an EVOC version from HIDevolution ?
P.S. @Phoenix , you were the one who said in a post that one should envision the thing he wants, and focus towards that thing to make it happen ^_^ .TomJGX, god1729 and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -

yes I am glad you took my advice. Always have the specs you are going to own in you sig, it will happen
I have a Eurocom Sky X9 because at the time I wanted to buy a P870DM, HIDevolution weren't a PREMA partner and I wanted the Prema BIOS but now they are and have the Prema BIOS and VBIOS and for free where I had to pay $200 USD for it.
My system is a Sky X9 but it is really all from HIDevolution, the Sky X9 was ordered through HIDevolution, the RAM upgrade to 2800 MHz then to 3000 MHz and soon to 3200 MHz is all through HIDevolution, The Silicon Lottery CPU was from HIDevolution, and my new Logitech G900 Mouse with the Razer Manticor mousepad which is on the way to me now is from HIDevolution.
So yes, I have a sky X9 but internally, it is an EVOC with a Silicon Lottery CPU, 3000 MHz 64GB RAM, Prema BIOS/VBIOS
-
See, because of the cpu premium, I'd order a bare bones from HID evolution if in the US, then buy from silicon lottery directly and my ram directly... Cheaper and worth it to me. The over $200 premium for a silicon lottery chip from then isn't worth the warranty covering the cpu. I'd rather just buy a new one if I screw it up. On the other hand, if the mb fries the cpu, they cover it if you buy the cpu through them...

Reason that I did the upgrade from HIDevolution even though I paid like $50 USD more is:
I live in Dubai and I don't want to wait for my shipment only to receive a bad CPU. So I wanted HIDevolution to test the CPU for me first before sending it.
Secondly, because I bought it from them, it is now covered under my entire system's warranty which covers shipping both ways even to Dubai. totally worth it to me
Same goes for the RAM, I didn't wanna order the RAM, wait for a week or so, only to receive it and maybe it won't work, so I paid a little bit extra for that extra peace of mind.
as for the G900 mouse, they charged me the same $150 USD and their shipping cost was actually cheaper than if I were to order it myself from Amazon so all good.oveco, god1729, Georgel and 1 other person like this. -
I completely understand. When my laptop went down last summer, I wish I had the delidded cpu covered. Because I didn't, it gave me an excuse to buy a cherry 4790K, but still is an expense I wouldn't have had to pay. Considering that is less than I paid for the new chip, it's technically the better way to go, if you have the cash at the time and have an extended warranty...

In the UK it's fairly simple to get parts sent back, but if shipping anywhere takes time and costs a fair bit then it's understandable you want some extra testing.

To anyone using this beast to play FFXIV, have you noticed a big fps drop in heavily wooded areas, or where there is a lot of water? In certain areas of the Shroud, as well as places like Camp Bronze Lake (water) I've been stuck dealing with it chugging a bit. I'm running 980m SLI. Everywhere else & in every other game it works fantastic on max settings. In FFXIV.... I run into this issue. Might my GPUs be throttling or something, or is this just the natural performance limitation of these GPUs?
Georgel likes this. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Have a look at usage for both GPUs and see if it happens with SLI disabled. I would be more inclined to guess poor game coding.
Georgel likes this. -
Ya... not sure I wanna see how poorly the game performs on just 1 980m lol. Probably can't even reach no where near the current settings.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I don't know how SLI scales in that game myself, how loaded is each GPU?
-
Wish I didn't cancel my subscription or else I'd group up with you in game and you could take me to where you see the issues. I'm running sli as well. I had good performance on one 980m and the short time I was able to test sli I remember being at 75 fps cap always. Again I didn't get too much ffxiv time in after the sli changeover.
-
but 7700k and 6700k are practically the same thing with exception natural usb 3.1 support and some igp improvement. no cpu improvement there, gotta wait until at least 8700k or something which is a die shrink.

Theoretically, if it is a lower tdp, wait for the benchmarks. It may overclock better by generating less heat, thereby not being like bs Broadwell, although the igpu makes it sound exactly the same as that sh1t stain!
