Now that looks like a lot of work!
I hope it serves well![]()

Uh no way. Even with the foil removed there is barely any space for the air to get in. Specially with the fans at the bottom placement. The reason you are seeing that temp drop is mainly because of the foils removed and not entirely because of the cooler.
Those are APPROXIMATE locations of where the fans are. And there is barely any where for the air to get in, unlike the top portion.
Now compare that to @Papusan 's fan placement, even if you place default U3 fans there, they will offer way more air flow than the other cooler.
If its working for you, sure, all good. But please please dont suggest it saying its amazing and all, because there are way better options available. No offense intended. -
+++ Dont suggest it for other Clevo owners!!! A very Crippled cooler as I said in previous post!!! Thats it!! No one should need to buy Junk.
-
You are misunderstanding. The modification I did was weeks before I bought the cooling pad. I am simply talking about a pre modified cover with and without the cooler. Not the combination of modifying and using the cooler vs no cooler or modification. Follow me? I suggested it because it's cheap and works well. It's not science just a simple fact because I saw it first hand. Is the U3 better? I'm personally curious to the difference which is why I just ordered one... Thanks for the replies, guys. I don't think I'll be taking the grills or the foil off of the bottom of the laptop. I don't want to see the lappy becoming some sort of warm, inviting nest for insects in the winter. The black U3 plus does seem to fit the bill, in terms of size, durability, and aesthetics I tend to go for. This unit will be a bit of a step up from my NP7330 which has served me well for the last few years. It's going to be nice to not have to bury my nose into the screen to see detail on a 13 inch screen.
-
Take the foil off the bottom if you experience heat problems later down the road. Or repaste.

I have the U3 plus as well, any other notepad cooler is a inferior for this laptop. Listen to the pros!
-
I normally don't use the fans, but today I put them on while overclocking and benchmarking. I honestly can't say how much it helps or not. This is what I have that I use both with fans and without. I like tha way I can pack it in the backpack with the laptop around it if I want to take it with me.

With the kind of airflow the bigger machines can produce a stand does not usually have a big impact compared to just raising the back.
-
-
I went with the U3. If I don't need the fans on it, that's all the better. I won't feel as worried when they start to fail. Thanks all! Now I just have to patiently wait for the machine itself to ship this or next week (or whenever Sager finishes working their magic)...
-
I'm going to test it with and without fans. I can say that when I got my cooling pad... Simply having it raised up dropped temps a bunch. However when I turn the actual fans on it drops another 5c overall. Curious how these fans will perform on the x3.Georgel likes this.

I returned my CoolerMaster SF-19. It lowered temps a whopping 1C. That's before and after the foil mod.
I may build a cooler with some 120v fans as others have suggested.
But what really has me intrigued are the portable AC units people on here have talked about. Are yall building your own?

Wonder if the issue was condensation inside the laptop?

I always thought that the conditioned air would be dry going in. I imagine there would be a drip valve somewhere though for condensation.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The air going in might be dry but any other air being cooled by that incoming air could cause issues.

If humidity is high enough in the ambient air, not all will be removed. If the temp inside is lower than the dew point, condensation.

Should be equally enough.

Btw, what happened to your Panther, I wonder? Did I miss the concerning post?

Nothing happened to it. As far as I know it is still running like a top. It has a new owner now. I did mention it a time or two, but no worries. This is a busy place and it's easy to miss stuff like that.ajc9988 likes this.

So asus is putting g-sync 120hz displays in their new laptop line hmm... wonder if we'll see that and a new gpu option for the p870dm-g, or not.

Joined before the lockdown apparently. Haven't tried gaming yet. So far only have installed some Adobe apps, Office 2007, Steam/CS:GO. Going to do a test run once the machine stops flashing lame ass messages at me (you files are just where you left them)... LOL
Update: running stock settings CS:GO pegged itself to 75 fps. Is that g-sync doing it's thing?Last edited: Jun 3, 2016 -
I was just wondering why you would prefer these other countries instead? We are happy to always do a quote.
About your questions I will try to give the best information we have, but others may have other reasons/opinions:
1. Pro can downgrade to Windows 7/8. This is important for some people.
2. Actually, we do not see huge demand of 4K. FHD is really still you best bet for most games so that the performance is higher.
3. We have requested 980SLI and are waiting for production. I did not check the exact spec, but I am pretty sure it is above 200W total. So far though I cannot get final confirmation.CaerCadarn and hmscott like this. -

Any indication on when the 120hz screens would be available ?....Def holding my purchase until then.

No official dates on new products or screens. But 120hz is popping up again on enough companies (Clevo, Asus, MSI) at computex, which means it probably isn't just some far off release of a prototype for one company, it looks like.

When you are at your pegged at your refresh rate G-sync doesn't really do anything, you are just running vsync at that point. You need to find a more demanding game to see g-sync in action.
This is my favorite video where you can see the difference it can make under the right circumstances.
It's fairly easy to see the difference it makes, but it really only helps between 40-60 fps, and most notably helps around the lower end of that (40-45). Anything lower than that will still be choppy. These are my observations anyway.
On less demanding games, at max settings and pegged at refresh rate I usually increase my resolution to 2560x1440 or even 3840x2160 to try to get the most I can out of my machine. -

Think it comes witn perma bios. Mines just bog standard bios bareable considering i got mine cheap 2nd hand. But having used it for a mknth noth i regret not importing ftom a retsilrr who supports perma. None in the UK atm.
-
where can buy cheap 2nd hand?
-
Ebay. Just got lucky but the guy selling it got it from oz dealer metabox. My only issue is i have no 2nd 2.5 hdd caddy/holder. All in all im kinda glad to be moving away from the m18x r2 would be nice if the p870dm gives just as long a service and hopefully less hassle when upgrading gpu

Played Fallout 4 with all settings to Ultra. Framerate dropped to 40ish a few times, but no tearing. Good times.
-

It does help particularly if you are in the 40-60 FPS region (a must on 4k panels IMO), the vast majority will notice that. It's nice above that too but some people start not being able to tell.

FO4 is just broke in general, a Titan X on 1500mhz can't hold 40fps on some parts of the game.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this.
