I haven't really run benchmarks at anything under 4.8Ghz. But if the voltage is too low, the system locks up and if its too high you will have throttling.
At higher clocks like 4.6Ghz i have had a pretty decent bump in performance.

    This one was last night for ****s and giggles @ 4.5Ghz and GPU @ +300/+500 : http://www.3dmark.com/fs/8944930

Heres with stock GPU and CPU @ 4.8Ghz :

from my email correspondence i was told the system BIOS for the P870DM-G is covered but the vBIOS for the GTX 980 would cost a bit more since it's considered as non-standard.

So they said it was $60 AUD for the vBIOS. I hope that won't be the case for future buyers but i did have to nag them and get @Prema to nag them about the vBIOS so i would technically be the first to have it done.

EDIT: they did say initially that they didn't have the vBIOS for the 980 until prema stepped in to remedy that :D

I've never tried that low OC. But maybe around 4sec 800ms. Others should be able to confirm this if they have tested. My lowest Wprime 32M with 4.8 GHz is 4.222 sec. Try to figure out the numbers from average 4.350 sec for 4.8 GHz.

Edit. I will never ever use other paste than Liquid metal. Rather mod the heatsink than use normal paste.

    Edit Wprime 32M score 4.3 GHz 4.856 sec http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...enix-has-arisen.781814/page-267#post-10170330
I was close with my bet :D

Thanks so much for the info. I'll try calling them first thing tomorrow morning (mine is currently listed as shipping some time tomorrow). Hopefully I'll be able to sort something out before they box it up.

Is really frustrating they don't list @Prema sBios (and now vBios) is available or even an option like other sites do. I get that they can currently only offer it on this model and are therefore not technically a full @Prema partner, but if there was a checkbox, option or wording to say 'ask about' when placing an online order for THIS specific model, I would have certainly taken the option at order. I don't mind paying more knowing the work that would have gone into creating it. I very nearly didn't order from them because I really did want the @Prema goodness and to support a @Prema partner.

Very kind of you, Phoenix... Never heard of this tool before !

Anyway, i ordered a delidded Silicon Lottery i7 6700K @ 4.7 Ghz in between. It was the same price as a stock i7 here...

My hardware is 2 x 512 Gb Samsung M951 SSD Pcie, 32 Gb So-Dimm HyperX 2400Mhz and a 2.5" Samsung 850 Pro 512 Gb for backup, but it's just pieces, not in any laptop yet.

I'm really interested in this Clevo 980 GTX laptop and have to choose between two options:

    - 1°) French reseller Clevo, with stock bios and basic overclocking options but i have bought HyperX 2400 Mhz Ram and i am not sure it runs stable at a basic 2133 Mhz frequency.

    - 2°) EVOC, with Prema improvements for both Bios and GPU.

    Question n° 1):
I would just like to have a CPU running stable at 4.4 Ghz, 2666 Mhz Ram frequency and adaptative GPU performances for a 3 years time.
I am not chasing the Bench " Graal " at all, so:
    - Can MSI afterburner overclock my GPU ?
    - Can Intel XTU let my Ram Frequency go up to 2666 Mhz ?
    - Can the Stock Bios Multiplier + VCore settings let my CPU Frequency reach 4.4 Ghz,
on a Stock Clevo laptop or do i need Prema improvements to do so ?

    Question n°2):
I have read about the bios theft Prema has been suffering: i think it could be a reason for him to be reluctant to release his Bios to anyone, hereafter... You seem to know him quite well so a third option would be to buy the french Clevo and benefit Bios and GPU from Prema, with your help to ask him and to set it in my laptop, redeeming his job of course and having your advices as well. I know you can't talk for him but is it possible he would agree, according to you ?

The main problem is, as usual, money ( without hardware ):

    - The french Stock Clevo is worth 2407,50 $ but they will install softwares and configure my Precious' hardware. It comes with a 2 years warranty and are located in my country, if problem but it is Stock ! Prema Bios option is unknown at Clevo France and the reseller told me that using it would void my laptop warranty.

    - The EVOC Clevo costs 2780 $ and i have to do everything on my own, it is only a 1 year warranty and if a problem occurs, i will have to send it abroad ( 210 $ with Fedex )... but it is Prema loaded !

370 $ make a big difference, but if there is no other way...

    Thanks.

    Stheto

It's good to have a frequency target you want to reach but really for 24/7 you need to find the sweet spot for the chip for power vs frequency where it starts to jump in power for little gain.

I called Metabox Australia first thing this morning (as my unit was due to ship today) and they confirmed they can offer the @Prema sBios and vBios (the vBios is an additional $60, as you mentioned). The guy I spoke to said they are ' waiting for an updated sBios and vBios from @Prema to fix some bugs, but he is away on holidays and due back in a few days... so my order will have to be delayed a few days'. I'm fine with that. Am glad there's an Aussie option for this model now, I just hope more local buyers find out before they place their order like I did.

Thanks again for your info about all this (and to @Prema for chasing them up on the vBios!!).

The guy I was in contact with was Emmanuel Lee.

EDIT: i just called to confirm and I just have to pay the extra $60 for the vbios - no big deal!

I've been talking with Emmanuel too. Close to pulling the trigger on the P870DM-G... just concerned it's going to sound like a rocket ship.

It's annoying - some reviews (Notebookcheck) say it's a relatively quiet system, while others (PCAuthority / LinusTechTips) say it sounds like a jet engine.
Obv I tend to trust Notebookcheck more. But it's still a concern.

I really like quiet laptops. I'm still considering underpowered/overpriced ROG's purely due to their whisper quiet fans.

Don't fear. The machine is not noisy compared to other systems. Rather less noisy or on same level. If its still a problem for you... Downclock to 6820BGA clock speed and make a massive under volt. Then maybe you can't hear the machine at all

Don't be. I'm there aswell, laptop in the dining room(girlfriend = she hates noisy gamer machines).
She's most happy with the ASUS machines, they are truly quiet, but this is close to second best.
The only compromize I have to do, is to undervolt it and downclock it abit when she's home.
That way the Clevo is close to OK noisy for her sake. I just keep 2 profiles, One where she's home, and when she's not! =)

I car seriously not hear the fans on for normal gaming use. I've only got a single 970m in there at the thing still stays usually under 70 degree's being pushed at 99% usage. It might be different with the other cards but the whole machine seems to have great cooling potential.

If you're going for benchmarks and turn the fans on full bore then it's a different story.. But that goes for any system.

Now rarely am I in a library quiet room, I'm usually watching a movie on TV while surfing/playing or just using headset while playing games, but the system is super quiet for my standards. It's a little funny when I think I'm running an overclocked desktop CPU and overclocked 980. No delid, just CLU on CPU and ICD on GPU.

I actually had to pause the movie last night because I was worried the fans weren't even working, I just couldn't hear them at all.

My old GT80 would hum along constantly even when idle at the desktop. (I watch movies from bed and want it to be super quiet) I can't tell you how big of change this thing is. Even at max fan it does not sound like the hair dryer sound you get from the super thin laptops.

It's amazing it is so powerful, quiet, and cool. You used to have to pick one or two but could never had all three. I've actually been messing around with higher overclocking trying to get the temps up. It feel like I'm hardly pushing the system when after a long gaming/benching session everything is super cool.

Don't mess with the junky XTU. This Bloatware will only make your system unstable and make a big mess on your system!! Download Throttlestop from the Throttlestop guide. Look into @unclewebb 's sig. You can put in 4 Oc profiles with this nice utility. Maybe put up 4.9 - 4.8 - 4.7 and 4.6 HGz like me :D You can easily put in your preferred profile. If you want change to the other 3 profiles, this can be done with a key command on the fly. And yeah..., You need to fiddling a bit to find voltage settings who fits your silicon. But that's it.

    Good People,
A question about the Clevo P870DM, can it be used in closed lid mode? Meaning, if a I connect a large display to the machine, can I close the display? Or does it need to stay open?

S'all good! Worked out of the boxes and envelopes! Plugged the cable they mentioned in to the DisplayPort-port closer to the touchpad, no special settings needed to be made anywhere, and stuff just *worked*. I'm typing with it now while I download Elite: Dangerious.

This laptop is *SCARY*. Truly terrifying. It's faster than the Titan Black in my desktop and quieter. What sorcery is this? o_o...

Couldn't agree more. I don't understand why Metabox don't list this (even as an option) on the order page. Maybe @Prema or someone else knows the legalities of why?? I understand they aren't a "full" partner as it is only this model they offer the bios for according to previous posts on this thread.

You could try contacting Metabox support and asking if it is something they could do for you if you sent your machine back. When I spoke to them (i suggest a phone call, I never got email replies) they seemed really helpful and willing to assist. Never know your luck. Failing that maybe even @Prema has some suggestions??

Okay after two weeks of troubleshooting I finally got the thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt adapter to work!!!

I had already tried every bios option in the intel thunderbolt section but today I decided to look around other options.

I found an interesting option under advanced chipset control. The option was set to "DDI to DP" and I changed it to "DDI to TBT."

Upon reboot I got video, audio, ethernet and usb from the apple thunderbolt display. ;)

well, i don't think @Prema will share the files otherwise it would undermine their partnerships.

even for a web dev you don't need that much horsepower with what an ultrabook can do.

Just because you don't need the horsepower, it doesn't mean that it isn't nice to have. I wanted a decent portable audio/video editing rig that was VR capable (should I end up getting a Vive or Oculus), and this machine was the answer. If and when the GTX1080 mxm cards are released and are compatible with our machines, I'd upgrade to it in a heartbeat. It's nice to have nice things.
