I think @thegh0sts meant that a laptop with less power can manage the work while @ParallelTwin sent back his P870 for new firmware. Not that he don't need more power than what a slimer weaker laptop can do...

Ah, That makes sense. I keep forgetting that the Prema Bios can't be flashed by the user anymore, due to someone's shenanigans. I admit that it would have been a nice feature to have on my unit, but I won't lose any sleep over it. With any luck, mayhap Prema will release the bios/vbios to us once a new flagship is out...
-
Well I wonder if metabox would be willing to do the delid as well.. It would make it more worthwhile to send it back...

The bios should be available when the new model is out.
Edit: i meant that more as a request than an announcement.

@clevo-extreme you hear that?
Also @Prema, what's the best timeline for the 1080M? Will there be any chance of it fitting in a standard MXM slot like in P771ZM?

Chassis the same. The same Story like old P570WM.

@clevo-extreme
Not!! That means Clevo will still give us the same piece of garbage 15 inch keyboards on these 17 inch laptops
See:
Clevo makes the worst laptop keyboard EVER! -
Doesn't matter to me
I have barely used the keyboard like 10-15 times .
But yeah, that's me being selfish i guess. I really don't want to have to jump through hoops just to upgrade the GPU.

If they use the same keyboard, which sounds like they would, I am switching to a whole new brand with a proper keyboard! I keep going nuts every time I wanna type on this piece of trash tiny keyboard! -
Nope, you wont.

Just been observing the thread and have been awaiting the 1080m and desktop edition official/paper launch announcement.
Been super busy (military stuff), so all I've had time to do is skim posts and give likes. I'll be gone even more until September, which is likely when the new models/refreshes should hit the market I'd imagine.
Anyway...Glad to hear the p870dm refresh will be the same chassis (which means I won't necessarily need to exchange/sell my machine towards a new model, just sell the graphics cards or talk to my reseller about the difference I'll have to pay for 1080m SLI since they'll essentially be the replacement for the current. I have a good relationship with them so this is everything I'd been hoping for at the very least.
Tell me, do you know if a 4K G-sync @120Hz (IPS, AUO or TN) panel is on the horizon for the P870DM-G? -
I wish.
But logically, there aren't any other better laptops on the market. And the keyboard is kind of a small drawback considering that this system offers
-
I really dont think 4k will be 120Hz. That is bonkers lol

And IMO there are much much, worse keyboards out there. Actually the only keyboard I have liked better was the GT80 and that was mechanical. Every other gaming laptop I've had was mushy feeling with flex while this keyboard feels solid. I know Lenovo business class laptops are known for great keyboards but I don't have any special love for my work laptop, just feels like a normal keyboard to me.Firebat246, hmscott and bloodhawk like this.

I have tried the Alienware 18 and even the ASUS G751JY keyboards and they feel way better and easier to type on as the keys are not so close to each other like this one it seems all squashed together and you have this empty black space all over the place, what a waste -
Yeap, I love the Thinkpad keyboard. Dad has one and its a bliss typing on that. This one i really dont dislike, since i haven't really used it much.hmscott likes this.

Hello everyone... It's done: i ordered my P870-G + 660 Watts from EVOC, Prema Bios included, few minutes ago...
I'll need some help for installation of NVMe SSd in Raid 0 and first booting with Win 10 Pro
By the way, also need your evaluation with the Bios settings i pre-ordered:
45 x Multiplier and ( -30mV ) Core offset ( i7 6700 k Silicon Lottery delidded 4.7 Ghz Tested )
UEFI Boot
Ram settings: 99 Mhz x 27 with DDR4 HyperX 2400, for a 2666 Mhz attempted.
Telling Hide Evolution i attended this forum gave me a rebate that pays for an external DVD player.
Next time i buy a Porsche, i tell about you, who knows ?Last edited: Jun 29, 2016steberg, jaybee83, CaerCadarn and 4 others like this. -
A guy can dream, lol.
. Besides, according to the computex thread on tech inferno
https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/9968-clevocomputex-2016/&page=1
A 3K 120Hz panel is on the way (one of Prema's posts, awesome he has plenty of insider knowledge) In this context, 4K @120Hz ain't too crazy.
-
Ok, already have to order a 3k 120 Hz panel on my new not already ready Evoc...
This machine is going to cost me more than my wife's jewels even before i can touch it !. -
Damn, that is going to be awesome. 3K is so much more better.CaerCadarn and hmscott like this.

Congratulations! The EVOC is the best version of the P870DM!
I have the same laptop also bought from HIDevolution but it's a Eurocom because at that time, they weren't a Prema Partner so I asked them to get me a Eurocom Sky X9 just for the Prema BIOS
I then also upgraded to the faster 3000 MHz. G.Skill RAM and a factory delidded Silicon Lottery CPU rated @ 4.8 GHz (equivalent to 4.5-4.6 GHz on a laptop)
Please ensure you put IC Diamond thermal paste on the CPU and not Liquid Ultra because of how the heatsink is designed, liquid ultra doesn't make good contact between the CPU and heatsink so IC Diamond is better as it makes better contact.

I thought about Gelid
-
A lot of the heatsink is uneven/warped. Don't waste your time and money on other paste than ICD. Or prep the heatsink for Liquid metal!!!Spartan@HIDevolution and Stheto like this.

Afraid CLU may solder HS to CPU Lid
-
Gelid and ICD perform pretty much the same with warped heat sinks.
LOL, where did you hear that? CLU doesn't solder anything. -
Read Clu soldering on the net, plus MB short circuit for clumsy users...

Apologies for not searching. Can the mods delete this post please?

Yes, you need to be very careful with CLU when applying it, otherwise it could short something out and its probably not covered by warranty on that.

I would only use IC Diamond on this laptop personally -
Still waiting for mine to go into production.

If you received a good heatsink... Go for Liquid ultra. I have very good results with Grizzly Conductonaut. Same good results if you prep a not so good one(not a very bad one). None conventional paste can beat Liquid metal!!! Also Liquid metal pads from CLU can be a good choice on uneven/warped heatsink with some prep. Don't give up before you have tried all choices.

I thought ic diamond scratches the surfaces real bad?
Sent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk -
Yeah I've got an absolutely unacceptable gimp of a Heatsink I'm trying to RMA with Xotic right now. Don't know how this thing got through QC.
Totally agree though. Regarding pastes the choice is easy. Liquid Metal Ultra.
@thegh0sts ICD is probably one of the best conventional pastes. It doesn't scratch if you let the TIM removal solution sit for a while and break it down.Papusan likes this. -
oh man, my order is still on 'order initiated' boo!
this might be due to it being the end of the month. -
@ clevo-extreme
So will you be a Prema-Partner (in the near future) or not? Thats da question!
I will never ever use or even buy a Clevo-Machine without Prema-(v)Bios! Might as well buying the MSI Titan then!

Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut is the worst paste I've ever used. Temps went up by 10C comp[ared to IC Diamond -
is ic diamond the 7 carat or 24 carat?
-
7 carat is the small tube (1 gram), 24 carat the big tube with 3,5 grams. The component stays the same.
