Hopefully they just didn't send out the update, and it there is no issue there. If the shipping company isn't much help, your seller should be able to possibly look in to it.

Have you ever received anything at work before? If you haven't, or even if you have, you may need to go to Receiving to sign for it and pick it up yourself, rather than wait to get an inter-office mail delivery to your desk - which can take days.

Receiving might be busy and have a large amount of shipments to intake, and your package might be in a large stack of stuff waiting for processing.

I always track the package and immediately walk to Receiving when it arrives, so it doesn't get lost in the pile of stuff coming in every day.

If you can get the identification info from the signer ask for that person by name when you go to Receiving.

    Be proactive.

I have asked and they didn't have it. They did have a package for someone else. I've put in a case with the shipping company cos 4k is a lot of money to lose.

I have had Receiving insist they didn't get something, when I know they did, and I sit down there until "the guy comes back from break" that can track it down.

I've had people shout in my face that they didn't get anything, and then while calmly working through the management heirarchy find out that it's sitting right in front of us on a stack of stuff that hasn't been processed yet.

When they say they don't have it, they might only be literally talking about themselves personally. Follow up with Management.

If you receive it at work, and someone there signed off on it, you gotta find it. :)

It was delivered to the wrong address? Not the address of the company?

The signatory is a person, not a company, and if they delivered to the address and someone signed it, then the delivery guy saw them.

I have had to have the delivery person identify a person before as the signer, and the package was "lost" between the signer and me, it was found and delivered to me...

If it was a different / wrong address, go to that address and hopefully they will give it to you.

It's still up to you to find it.

All these little details would be helpful in the first post :)

Then you can go to that office and get it, right?

I wouldn't let it get bounced around between receiving/shipping N times.

Make sure that there are no active partitions when you are installing. That means removing other drives that have OS'es in them.

All is well now. As I was about to leave the office for the day I see the delivery truck and collected the laptop. I packed the PC into my laptop bag along with the PSU and other accessories.

All i left at the office was the main box, accessories box, and the foam padding to take home another day.

EDIT: tonight will be about setting it up and less about my nightly overwatch binge.

I've had that happen many times before and it's very frustrating. The solution is counter-intuitive. Set the BIOS to Windows 8+ (yeah, don't ask me why) and see if it allows it to installed. On the CSM screen choose UEFI and Legacy, LAN do not launch, Storage and Video set to Legacy and the bottom option UEFI. And, be sure only the OS target drive (or RAID drives) are installed. All other drives need to be temporarily removed. Remove and re-insert the USB installation media while still on the screen where you get the error message (no rebooting) and try again. It's like the USB times out or something. I also initialize all drives as MBR.

Ah so you are also in the David L Jones school of thinking:

"Don't turn it on, take it apart!"

However since it's a new product I like to check that A) It's working and B) set a base line for any improvements ;)

On a different note, you have given me a brain child. I know you are working on water cooling, but your putting copper shims on the video heatsink got me thinking. First, find IDC's instructions on going bare die. Click the link in my signature for too much tim. Now, what you'll do is modify washers of the same hight and gaskets to go where the screws holding the arm holding down the cpu in place. You unscrew and removed the arm, then screw the screws with those washers back in. You lap the heatsink for the cpu flat, then attach a thick enough copper shim to the heatsink. Clu between the die and copper shim and you are in business. Bare die phoenix! Sound interesting? Should perform better than the ihs if the contact between the shim and the heatsink is better than the ihs and heatsink (and the thermal tape or whatever you use allows for better heat transfer). It is a stop gap between a custom heatsink for bare die and what you have, admittedly. How much more efficient is yet to be seen, but it is a thought. ..

Fire Strike is always a little lower with Windows 7 than with 8 or 10, but that's only because it does not give much credit for physics performance in the overall score. If you take another look, your physics score probably improved but it wasn't counted. It's mostly a GPU benchmark. You can have a wimpy BGA turdbook with a powerful GPU and crappy CPU, but still get a nice Fire Strike score.

But, 3Dmark 11 should be 1000 to 1200 3DMarks higher on physics and a higher overall score as well because it takes overall system performance into account more than Fire Strike does. Windows 8 and 10 both suck at physics performance compared to 7 and that functional weakness of both newer OSes is highlighted nicely with 3DMark 11.

Actually my Physics score dropped by around 1500 points. Win 10 is about 155xx, Win 7 it was 141xx. At first i thought something was wrong on my end, so i ran wprime and the score was a tiny bit better, so its something related to 3DMark.

That's hard to imagine. I've never once seen an example of that on any of my systems. Windows 7 always beats 8 and 10 in physics scores, and generally by a wide margin. Are you running ThrottleStop? If not, that might explain why. With 3DMark 11 you really need ThrottleStop to force the machine to put out everything it is capable of mustering.

Ill see if i missed something in TS, but from my graphs, my clocks held perfectly steady. But the fps was 42-25 ish, unlike the normal 47-52 ish at 4.8Ghz.

If I could get Windows 10 to perform better than Windows 7 I might finally cut it loose and go with Windows 10, but I can never get Windows 8 or 10 anywhere close to the same performance. Not sure why, but in a multi-boot system with no changes to BIOS settings the shortcomings of 8 and 10 are glaring, especially in 3DMark 11. I wish I could, because multi-boot is an extra hassle to have to deal with. But, as long as Windows 7 performs better I can't have anything but hate for 8 and 10.

I've also never found W10 to outperform W7 in physics.
Ive actually grown to like W10 with the Spyware removed but the hit in CPU aggressiveness is almost too much for me to bare.

Yeah, for the other task that i installed Windows 7 for, its blazing fast. Way faster than Windows 10. Im testing some stuff for a work related VR project. We might end up purchasing a lot of P870DM's if this works out.

Thats what i was expecting. But for a fresh install, with only the bare minimum drivers and the odd HW monitoring tools installed, the Firestrike Physics score was seriously lacking.

Maybe you two Mixing numbers and benchmarks? Or am I not quite with. Win 7 improves physics in both benchmarks. Win 7 better total score in 3DM11 and Win crap in Fire Strike.

buy an NVMe slow booting SSD and you will have no choice but to use Windows 10 to get proper performance out of it ;)

PS: Whatever happened to the promise from Micro$h4ft that Windows 10 will have the best performance through better utilization of newer hardware especially Skyflake CPUs?

No thanks. I skipped NVMe on purpose and have no plans to waste money on NVMe SSD any time in the foreseeable future. It will probably be worth owning in a couple of years and by then we probably won't have to worry about being raped with the asinine prices.

And, yeah... Micro$haft pulled a Micro$haft on us. They lied. At least there's one thing they are really good at... lying. :vbwink:

So I'm one of those people who did invest in NVMe... I bought 2 Samsung 950 Pro's to go with the new machine (and yes I run Windows 10 - might not allow me to MinMax my rig but it gets the job done). I used to be an Intel SSD fanboy, until I had 3x 520-series Intel SSDs brick themselves in a row thanks to a bug in the firmware (they were all under 3-year warranty and were replaced... one of the replacements even bricked itself a day after plugging it in). Unlike Samsung, Intel Australia doesn't support local returns/repairs for SSDs... you are told to ship the drive overseas to a foreign service center (2 month turnaround). Now I just use the 2 working drives I have left as 'scratch disks' for Photoshop and temp files. I paid a premium for "Intel quality" products and got screwed over multiple ways. I figure the Samsung drives aren't cheap, but at least they're locally supported should something go wrong.

Incidentally... is it normal that the HDD light on the P870DM-G doesn't light up when accessing either M.2 NVMe SSDs? I tried them both in a Raid and now non-Raid setup... and same problem. I've got Samsung's latest v1.1 drivers installed. The only time the HDD led actually lights up is when it accesses either of my 2 Intel 520 (Sata3) SSDs. Is there something in the BIOS I might be missing?

I don't about the RAID setup, but for me it rarely lights up. Only during boot or loading some games etc.
