It seems that we won't smell 1080 and 1070. Don't know anything about 1060 but who cares about 1060...
-
You cannot have 1080 sli! A 1080 you can with a new heatsink. 1070 sli may be possible with the msi cards. No one has pictures of the 1080 msi yet, so there may be a chance unless rumors of needing a six pin rather than a for pin is true. But a hard mod to boot without the plug is possible. So hold your horses and wait for more.

MSi 1070 will probably not work -
17:45 onwards.
They have no power jacks, and i remember Prema mentioning that new EC/Cards need an EC communication signal or something without which the card and system dont power on.
Also the MSI 1070 seem to be protruding to wards the left, so SLI wont be possible. -
I see your point on protruding left. My mistake as that rules out the one slot. But Prema mentioned there may be a way to fake the signal, but moot point if it doesn't fit...

Any prove?

Prema said they are releasing a new heatsink similar to the 980 t heatsink for the 1080. I'll take his word!

O, if Prema said so... then I will trust him. Sorry I had to miss this message, could You link? My brains tells me to read it asap to have inner peace.

I'm on my phone right now, so doing a search for the post is hard at the moment. I'll find it soon...

FYI, search seems to be down, at least just right now, I keep getting nothing back from searches I know should work. The site is being re-indexed today, maybe it's already going on?

By the way, how P870DM1 might work with 1080 (even with new heatsink)? EC wouldn't be the problem (or power cable is responsible also for this?)? I'm just curious.
-
That is where people are trying to figure out how to make that work at the moment. No answer that I've seen yet, but confidence someone will have instructions...

No way to get the new T-Heatsink though.bradleyjb, temp00876, TomJGX and 1 other person like this. -
This price is sick. It's worth max 900-949$.
-
That price is absurd...
-
Well that is about what the 980 200W was selling for when it came out.Papusan and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

I thought the old T-Heatsink from 980 will fit?
I hope they have instructions to make it work.
-
Nope, the shape is different, need the new T Heat Sink.
-
Guys, can anyone confirm if the keyboard backlight can be turned on/turned off in the bios? Mine is not turning on even if the flexikey says it is on.
PS: I will be reunited with my laptop after 12hours. -
Does the new heatsink even fit?
I also wonder if the EC problem is solvable?

Is it possible that the second, smaller keyboard cable controls the lighting and has become disconnected?
Also, where has your long lost laptop been? -
There are three cables attached to the keyboard. I was only able to detach the smaller one, but it did not affect the lighting. Will try the other two bigger ones.
I'm working on overtime that why the 12hours boooo! -
Anyone know where I can buy a spare keyboard ribbon to connect to the backlight? It was cut in half, I don't even remember how that happened lol

I would suggest your reseller, or possibly rjtech.com

Anyone with 980m sli getting a "your computer does not meet the recommended spec" massage for the oculus rift? I never got it before now.
-
Nope. I dont have it in my system, but a NP9870-S with 2 x 980M's works just fine.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I believe it's soldered into the keyboard on its end so would need a replacement keyboard. -
Its running the games fine. Just when you running the oculus software and the in vr oculus menu it's quite prominent.
-
Yes its typical Oculus BS, it will work just fine just ignore it as I do. There was a registry hack to disable but I got tired of fooling with it. The only thing I did change was I use an HDMI to DP (4k) adapter as in some cases when playing I would experience a flicker or two and this seemed to cure it.

Thank you @Meaker@Sager
I'd love to but we don't have a 30-day return policy here in the Ph

Maybe when we can actually buy it + heatsink + proper power cable for our laptop.
Also after I know for sure 1070 SLI won't be possible for our laptops.hmscott likes this. -
Its available through Eurocom, but no idea on how to get the heatsink.
-
I got my "upgrade" quote and felt like pooping my pants. I don't know when I'm going to do the 1080sli swap this year. Very expensive. But not entirely a surprise.

What about the wire situation?? We have a four pin power connector and the GPU needs an 8-pin? power connector.
I'm buying 1080 single as a last resort, I will wait a month or so to see what happens to the GT80 owners and see if they get 1070 SLI in their 980m SLI setup. -
That shouldn't be too big of a problem, just need to get hands on the Service Manual. And then a bit of Prema magic on the EC.
Main thing is that the card is about $1250 + Shipping + Heat sink cost. So IMO its not justified for me. But i will try for sure.Papusan likes this. -
Details man, details!!
What are you upgrading from, what to, and what are the parts listed as required for the upgrade. How much? And, who is the vendor?
-

I usually grab the heatsink k from where I have ordered in the past.
-
I'll be waiting for 1080 Sli for the most part, as that would probably sustain the system for an absurd amount of time in the next few generations to come. If it's not possible, as long as one desktop grade 1080 could be fit in, I'd be happy for my 120Hz/144Hz gaming wants.
-
Well I use the term upgrade lightly. Mythlogic will take my machine...swap it out with the new chassis and GPUs (moving from 1080p to 4k panel so I'm assuming 1080p panel would be cheaper)...and boom I now have 1080 sli. Cost would be 3350 US dollars of course.hmscott likes this.
-
That kind of upgrade already makes the wallet suffer. I rather just pay for a single 1080 desktop level GPU and not go SLI ever. A single card online is enough for most applications (I do not care for the VR gimmick as its not the level of VR I want anyway).TomJGX likes this.

A single 1080 will be a very capable card for even 1440p high refresh rate displays.
-
Ahh, the Mythlogic upgrade program, awesome stuff
But, you had to buy your first laptop from Mythlogic to qualify
-
I bought from them for many reasons and yes that's one of them. I basically can pull the trigger when I'm ready. But I'm not sure when I want to swallow that amount of money. Plus my 4.5ghz OC on my 6700k is so perfectly stable I don't want to touch anything!Sean Hyland, GTVEVO and hmscott like this.

I'm sure they will accomodate moving components from your old laptop to the new chassis / build - keep the CPU in the new build
And, wait for the 1080p 120hz G-sync panel or 4k 120hz, so you have time to save up.
Sounds like a great deal.
Maybe they will allow you to upgrade/pay in two stages. 1 1080, then 2 1080's in SLI... easier on the pocketbook. -
For the cost of $3350, you could buy a bare bones system. Keep your old one or sell it for recouping cost and move the ram and cpu over yourself. If they keep your base unit, not that much of a deal if you ask me...
Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk -
$3350 to upgrade.
That's like the cost of a whole new system... that can't be right.
You musta heard'em wrong
That's like what, $750 trade-in value on your old system, blah, that's gotta be wrong. -

Remove cpu, hard drive, and ram on HIDe's system and you are at $3,320, plus still get Prema bios and one year warranty! Add $20 to get Intel wifi over killer or -$15 to reuse the one in your system.
Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk -
With the components kept, retail cpu $350, ram $170+, hard drives, you get no discount! The pricing is exactly a barebones and they move it over for you!!! Then they keep your base and part it out or use it for doing maintenance on other machines under warranty, possibly...
