    Hmm k. So around US$900

Yeah.. still a little steep for no good reason. It should just be US$700 like previous MXM modules. Let's say $750 at the worst... but that extra $150 tax for nothing isn't cool. It's not a fair price.

1080 SLI is a whole different ball game from 980M SLI to be fair.

Ye I think a lot of people underestimate the huge difference between 980M SLI and 1080SLI. Just like people underestimate the 1070, it's basically just as fast as my 980Ti. ****ing insane.

I just saw someone compare my OC'd to all hell 980 Firestrike score to a stock 1070 and call out that the 1070 is "only" "9%" faster.
    People man.

The 1070 will be a decent upgrade for people going from a 980m or who need that little bit of extra performance over the 980.

i'll give it a try when it unlocks. i might have to chuck it to high-medium settings to get rock solid 60fps. besides, the graphical comparisons are minor though anisotropic filtering is obviously visible on low.

They unlocked it ages ago and allow for g-sync/freesync. it got patched into Win10 TH2 mid this year i think as games like Quantum Break and FM6 Apex got patches that allowed it to run higher than 60fps. i could get apex over 60fps easy even up to 75fps.

all PC footage i have seen is at 60fps and my guess is you can go higher.

Phoenix, can't you plug a tactx keyboard into that beast to get some Alien feels back, like a binky or a woobie, sumthin to pacify your grouchy a$$ & get ya through this?
    • can it use or run a dual-USB keyboard?
Look, I bought this one 5weeks ago for twenty dolla / shipped, brand new, like new new: "Item is brand new, the defect that I found its that when you type f it types fe & also when you type e it types ef' ... that's exactly what it did, all it needed was took apart & a wrinkle in the film between E-F smoothed out, fixed it, dude lost out bigtime. It sits in the box, so nice & sweet I can't even use it

The only external I added to mine was a USB 3.0 BD/DVD reader/writer.

I love those high bitrate Blu-Ray movies at 1080p. Much better than that streaming stuff.

yeah same here, I only used it like twice in 6 months but it's nice to have, other than that, I don't want anything that I have to constantly have externally connected to use, I might as well just buy a desktop now which I hate due to the many connections of devices I have to make. I like it all in one neat package.

1070 is a decent upgrade in performance for those with single 980m and can't afford a new machine. Not if you have a single 980 graphics

Depends how much fun you can have overclocking really. The 1070 is around the 980ti which was a large step up from the 980.

The best bet is Wait and see what will happen. Upgrade to Single 1070 vs 980m Sli isn't an option. 1080 could be if you sell your two 980m. Also 1070 Sli could be an option if this setup worked and you got a decent price for your older graphics as stated.

If your resolution is 1080p then yes 980 is great.

    If you're on 4K or even 2560x1440 @ 120hz then no.

since ur running an egpu setup can u enumerate the hardware used by you ? for eg: ur using razer core or akito tb3 enclosure or some other hardware.

Inxtron TB3 HDK (basically the Akitio TB3 enclosure) + ASUS Strix 1080 OC + P870DM-G.

I would stay away from the Core, unless you really want a pre-built product and dont mind paying extra for it. And it seems to be more of a hassle to the Core working than a standard TB3 PCIe box.

so what drivers did u use stock tb3 drivers and was it plug and play or too much of hassle, did u use razer drivers ?
It would be great if u would enumerate your process for enabling egpu on ur laptop.

Take GPU Plug into the Card/Box. DDU old Drivers, Install latest drivers. Shutdown system , connect TB3 cable. And system should automatically switch to it. At least it did for me.
    And works flawlessly.
All standard drivers. Nothing from Razer.

so u delete the mobility drivers and install desktop drivers and as for TB3 drivers u got it directly from intel right ?
And i saw that u did some benches in ur opinion how much of a perf. hit ur seeing cause Tb3 shares lanes with all connected devices like m.2 driver ur usb ports dp ports etc so can u try a vanilla run with only one m.2 drive connected and no usb devices and external displays.

also was there any perf. hit between the internal display and external display ?

I never had any mobility drivers. Always been using the desktop drivers. TB3 drivers that come from Clevo/Intel (not sure).

As for a performance hit, i guess you are looking at about 20%?

Havent tested the internal display. Not really going to, since i know the performance will go down even further. So thats that. Maybe take out another 15-20% for that.

I really dont plan on doing a test without the m.2 drives. Since those are my boot drives. End of the day this was just an side test to see how well the TB3 eGPU performs.

Can a OC'd 1070 in same eGPU setup compete with the score you get from your tested 1080? As your tested 1080 have gimped score duo eGPU setup. Or will a max oc'd 1070 also be gimped duo eGPU?
