I think the limit in the interface will stop further increase in scores. No special firmware can increase the score... OC'd 1070 will be the max for eGPU setup. And 1080 is wasted money!!

It can vary by game and Nvidia tend to be a bit more sensitive than AMD so if they pull their finger out on their next high end card it might be an interesting one to try.
-
It's not. The 1070 is pretty much as fast as a 980Ti, which is a fair bit faster than a 980.
-
-
Nah bruh. The laptop 1070 ain't slammin the same graphicalness as the desktop 1070. Look at them studies done out there - you only get on average an 8% bump from laptop 980 to laptop 1070. Varies by game but you know dat be the average. Some games, laptop 980 is comensuration with laptop 1070 at 1080p's.
-
Probably because the review units had pants BGA CPU's and throttling GPU's. Too many folk absolutely underestimate having a baller OC in games. Not all systems are born equal.
-
Bruh - please don't molest us peasants! This is P870DM thread and I see you be rockin the P870DM3 with the madness gtx 1080.
-
Not sure you're picking up what I'm putting down bud.
If we DM folk compare systems it's fine for apples to apples (980 vs1070). I haven't really bothered to look at the 1070 performance reviews in detail but I'm pretty sure they'd go a lot further than in a hot thin-and-light. -
-
-
980 is still useable for 1080p. I would not have gone for 1070 if I had 980. The gain is too small!! Are you, guaranteed + 30% more fps in all games at 1080p with Gtx1070 vs 980? I don't think so. The difference between 1070 vs 980 will be shown better with a higher resolution than 1080p.

Any benchmark links? I highly doubt it -
http://www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/9225544/fs/10189851
And the 980 is running clocks that are impossible to use for gaming. A 980 with a decent 24/7 overlook scores about 13k ish.Papusan, ajc9988 and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
Why would you doubt it? The 1070 is pretty much a die shrink of the 980. Clock for clock performance is nearly identical.Papusan likes this.
-
I know you can't game with maxed Oc
But games vs benchmarks is two different things
The question is... Will 1070 have +30% gains over 980 in almost all games (1080p)? I don't talk about games who isn't running well.

Trying to figure out new storage purchase and looking for feedback...
Which sounds best, (1) 2TB 2.5" sata mx300 ssd or 850 evo ssd, (2) 1TB x400 2.5" sata ssd and 512GB 960 evo m.2, (3) 1TB 960 evo m.2, or (4) 1TB x400 2.5" ssd and wait for Intel optane. Also, is a drop in ssd price expected after 960 Samsung releases?

Bruh those are total scores bruh you have to compare the graphicalness scores bruh try again bruhSpartan@HIDevolution, CaerCadarn, TBoneSan and 1 other person like this.

Come on, we don't have to be aggressive.
I didn't know about those things until recently either.
To explain what the problem seems to be: The two configurations could have been tested with very different CPUs, and the CPU makes a world of a difference.TBoneSan likes this. -
And the specs on both the notebook and the desktop cards are the same afaik.
With the notebook one have a few more CUDA cores I think. Cant check at the moment.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
2048 vs 1920, but clock speeds are a bit lower IIRC.

Gotcha, yeah there seems to be a 60mhz difference.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this.

It doesn't even say from what machine the Laptop 1070 they used.

"The notebooks used for this article are the ASUS ROG G752VT (with GTX 970M), the Alienware 17 R3 (with GTX 980M) and Acer Predator 17X (with GTX 980 for laptops). Whereas the desktop GTX 1070, we used the one we already reviewed here. (with a link to desktop 1070's and the other to Amazon below lol)
You can also check out the first GTX 1070-equipped notebooks here: http://amzn.to/2aWAEwX"
We know that Pascal won't be performing the same in all mobile machines. I want to know where they got their Laptop 1070 results from.
This too. That review isn't as thorough as it's trying to be. I need to know what Laptop 1070 they used. It's not good if it's from a throttling thin and light BGA gimp.Last edited: Oct 7, 2016TomJGX, Dr. AMK, Cass-Olé and 1 other person like this. -
I don't know bruh - so I found some better trusty sources:

Thats a good site with nice reputations so we should believe in their assessmentizeness.
Here's the % differentiation of 1070/980 (mobile) for them sweetest games set on ultration graphicalness and with 1080p's:
(% improvement of FPS in 1070 to 980):
Crysis 3: +18%
Doom: +16%
GTA V: +25%
Middle Earth SOM: +27%
Metro LL : +18%
BF 4: +30%
Bioshock Infinite: +11%
The Division: +20%
Tomb Raider: +27%
Star Wars Battl.. + 20%
Fallout 4: +23%
Metal gear solid V + 0 %
Dirt Rally: - 1%
------------------------------------
Averagizations: +18%
You like them datas? Your welcome for the sophisticization statisticalness. My point be proven.
PS chill bros: i'm not agressive just having fun. Still sore that I have dat GTX 980 for only a few months and clevo makes now laptop with 1080 and I can't upgrade. but good to see that the GTX 980 is still beastmaster at graphicalizations. -
Yeah, The performance hit from 1070 vs 980 depends on what game you play. Maybe even higher score for 1070 vs 980 in games running on higher resolution than 1080p. You can close the gap a bit with oc'd 980 vs stock 1070

Exactly what I'm doing and why I'm staying away from 1080sli. I don't need to boil water with my laptop lol
-
Oh so you will be getting GTX 1070 for your P870DM?
-
I'm getting the new chassis with 1070sli. I may be the first one on forums going 1070sli? Not sure. But 1080s rocking 90c is not my idea of a fun time.Dr. AMK likes this.
-
Oh cool, I was going to do that if I didn't sell my desktop but since I sold it 1080 SLI is minimum for me.
I don't think they all run at 90C. I think CPU delid and removing the bottom panel plastic cover brings temps down to 70C ish.
I think @Johnksss@iBUYPOWER temps are good. -
At 4K or 3K 120Hz, GPU temps are likely going to hit 90C on many games unless you use liquid metal, and even then sometimes.
-
Same also for @Meaker@Sager Change a few pads on the Grid, and do a re-paste. People should do this anyway
-
We HAVE to change the pads to get those lower temps though? My CPU is already delided and I'm sure HIDEvolution uses IC Diamond on the GPUs anyways.Papusan and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.
-
I run my 980m sli at 4K and am able to stay under 83c. So I won't go near 90+ with a ten foot pole. And so far every benchmark i have personally seen these 1080s are basically hitting thermal threshold. There's been no 1080sli system yet to impress me. I think dual 1070s will be able to handle pretty much anything.

Meaker has a post in the forum about the topic. Also with pictures. Pads were also a topic on DM1 models. See posts from @tanzmeister . HID or any others of the resellers are not a guarantee for lowest possible hardware temperatures. This has been proven time after time
Sometimes is doing the job self a better choice

Guys i just broken some tiny pieces on
my gtx 980 so it will have any problem

oooh crap.... how did u manage that?
no idea what consequences this will have, worst case scenario black screen, best case nothing but worse overclocking...

ok so at least it works, thats a good chunk of panic averted right there already

just benchmark some game and it still boot to 1228 MHz with temp acceptable

At least you had Lady Fortuna on your side!
But then, why sealing these ones when working with CLU, I am wondering?Prema and ElCaptainX like this. -
I wondering too, the thermal paste from factory so bad on this gpu then i replace it with ic diamond, but it cant clear for replace when you not remove that seal
-
Did they remove the 1070 upgrade from the eurocom website? I was web-surfing, and couldn't find it.
hmscott and ElCaptainX like this. -
Yeah bruh - anyway, get that GTX 980, its got that better graphicalness!
-
So no upgrade as of this moment? What about the screens? Hoping to get to 1440p at 120Hz/5ms.
-
AFAIK a panel upgrade should be doable assuming there's no BIOS hoops to jump through for G-Sync.
