It's 2 pins towards the split.

After the initial boot screen it shows pixel artefacts and then just goes blank. I can't even get a signal to an external display.

    Geez that's bad luck.

Hit up metabox, they have surprised me with their prices for a couple of things I ordered recently though they may not have stock on hand and ordering in means weeks delay

Can you post up a pic?

What happened? Too much and it spilled out when you clamped heatsink down shorting those tiny resistors? I was going to do that with conductonaut today......

Conductonaut is way thinner than CLU. Be very careful, im sure you are planning on insulating the surrounding area/components?

Tried to fix it but I don't feel like I want to damage it further. I might seek a replacement board or try the original company to replace the part for me.

    It's gonna cost me.

By taping off you mean? Did that

And yeah it's thin alright, it took a while to work into the P170EM I tried a few days ago. Need to check my application too, I just realised theres a 10+C diff between cores on the CPU even at idle but it took at least 15C off max temps vs AS5.

It's just ground signals that are affected. All you need to do is break off the one bend pin, so that it can't touch it's neighbor and the system will be as good as new...

It's not that bad, just try to get them back to the rghit position using thin pin or something, I really think that you can do it by yourself.

It doesn't work, it's broken, how much worse can it get?......

So long as you don't add any new damage (slip with your screwdriver and gouge off a resistor... Been there done that)

Hi All - Hopefully someone can set me on correct path with this issue. I am convinced my processor fan is performing at a sub-optimal level but I did open the lid to confirm it is still working, which it is. However, the event viewer is indicating the following issue for each core. Is this indicative of a fan problem or expected when running processor intensive tasks on this box?

This is pretty common, you would have to graph the behaviour over time in a monitoring application to be sure exactly what is going on.

OK, thanks. I should point out that I have never oc'd the unit. What temperatures should I expect? Typically, they run between 40C and 45C according to speed fan.

question for you all, the sager control panel we have hasnt been updated but the program for the 9873 has been. anyone try it out, is it different and would it run on our older ones?

im asking because i have some weird things happening in that my computer randomly goes to sleep when battery is fine and sleep is disabled in all power settings.

For those that have repasted or liquid metalled their P870DM's - what is the heatsink contact like out of the factory? Do I need to lap any of them before I metal?

I just did a P170EM (twice) where I'm thinking a concave CPU heatsink and resulting poor contact is behind the ~15C delta at idle between core 0 and core 1

i get the 1070 on the same day the laptop is sent for repairs LOL

    just my F***in' luck eh?

anyway, i am not sure what to say but when i opened the box to check, the 1070 was nicely factory sealed but I noticed it has the bypass wire on the back. My guess: that the bypass wire is needed for operation in clevo laptops. I am not super fussed but I'll definitely be testing for performance once everything is hunky dory.

That is correct. The machine will not POST without that wire. @Prema has mentioned it. That jumper does something for the EC to recognize the GPU.

figures. like i said i am not super fussed but will definitely try it once i get my laptop back. (will probably have to reinstall windows LOL)

i'm still waiting on my M.2 to USB enclosure so i can move some files off and do a reinstall.

EDIT: would have been nicer if it came with an SLI connector on the board though.

It will bypass some kind of hand shake the card expects with the system EC most likely.

Yes... some kind of shenanigan that never should have been there in the first place. It is a real shame to have to resort to something like this... very poor engineering decisions, probably motivated by greed with an intent to interfere with GPU upgrades. We live in a sick world now. No OEM/ODM is truly worthy of our trust any more. It makes brand loyalty next to impossible and you have to resort to accepting the lesser of evils. Thank goodness we have someone like @Prema watching our backs and righting the wrongs.

Don't think Metabox or any reseller does repairs. For that type of damage they just replace the board.

Well, stage 1, a Clevo Pascal is detected in a DM (1)

Will be interested to see what power/clocks are like with the ghetto 4 pin connector. Would not like to see the magic smoke if one fell out though

What do the other 4pins do?

Also the die on the clevo 1070 is way off compared to the MSI 1070 (as per the comparison pic I posted earlier) and you need to do some heavy modding of the heatsink to get it to fit.

So I have my doubts they can get it to work because the 980DT heatsink is still too short because it's pushed back and to one side and there's simply not enough copper to reach it.

The other issue - I had a look at the schematics a few weeks ago, the DM2/3 connector has 9 pins - 4 ground, 4 power, and a "CABLE_DET", the function can perhaps be assumed from its name, but is missing on the card end (8 pin). Each of the 4 pins (J_DC1 and J_DC2) in the DM is 2 ground 2 power (19V from supply I believe I read). It looks like in the pic the guy has his 4 pins (2 power 2 grounds) from the DM mobo all connected to the grounds on the card connector.

Big ups to them for having a go though

isn't there a second power pin port somewhere? how else would a 980 DT in SLI be done? you could probably take both ports and plug them into the 1070 but my guess is that the pins don't correspond correctly. so a clevo 1070 is a bust either way for the Gen 1 DM.

Eurocom selling official upgrade 1070 to p870dm for weeks, is no new info. They say it works like charms with 980m heatsink so...

News will be if they aprove 1080 example with 980 desktop heatsink. Still waiting for this.

If someone have 980m sli or even 980 desktop after good oc. Upgrade to 1070 is not a so Big deal but upgrade to 1080 definetly will be.
